DO NOT GO THERE ON ANY HOLIDAY WEEKEND! We went on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend because we like the food (2:23 pm). The bartender was very nice, acknowledged us right away, and asked us what we wanted to drink and if we needed menus that all went well. We got our drinks and ordered some food. At 2:50 pm. I asked the bartender about our food, and she said it was coming right up. Meanwhile, a group of 8 people who came in well after us got food. At this point, I asked the bartender to cancel our food she went back in the kitchen and came back out a few minutes later, still no food. She said it would be out next. I informed the owner/manager that we had been waiting for our food for about an hour, and a large group of people that came in after us got their food before us. And she told me that is because they ordered appitizers. That didn't make any sesene to me as I ordered Jalapena poppers and mini tacos, and my husband ordered the days special none of the food should of taken an hour to make, we were never told that would be a delay on our order. She would not let us cancel the order she demanded we paid for the food we did not get or eat we left a 3:15 pm. Me and my daughter went out for fish fry on Friday. We ordered cod... we got catfish. There was very uncooked. The waitress was nasty. The manager was nasty. The owner was nasty instead of them, giving us our meal for free. They only gave us 15% off and then cook me some other fish that was raw. Also, they do have really really good fish in town, but do not order the catfish. You will literally get sick. The crooked oar is a great little bar and restaurant along the River. We were so glad it was open for lunch on a Monday after hiking across the river at Effigy Mounds. Colby, our server was amazing. She was working the bar and serving both inside and outside and keeping everyone happy. I had the chicken ranch wrap - the dressing on it was very good and there was plenty of chicken. My husband enjoyed his tenderloin, and the fries were hot and crispy. They also have a dock for access from the river. read more

The food is at or below average. Mine was served cold so that makes it hard to enjoy. The service is far worse than the food. I give this place another chance every year due to its location, and they continue to disappoint time and time again. Have also been ripped off by bartenders, especially when paying cash as the same round can cost a different amount each time you buy. Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere. read more

This is probably my favorite place to drink, eat, and chill in town. It's got a beautiful view of the Mississippi River from a deck with a tiki on it!Also the bathrooms are so nice I almost wanted to just eat my meal in there... I didn't but just saying the bathrooms have a very clean but rustic vibe! There was a ton of space in the back and the service was phenomenal to say the least. THE BLUEGILL GUYS! We solely tried lunch here based off of a review stating the bluegill was good; Even the homemade tartar sauce was good and I'm not a fan of tartar. My catfish sandwich was mushy but catfish normally is. The fries and burgers were also good! read more

The blue gill dinner is a Big Bang for the buck, the fries were hot, slaw was tasty and the fish was lightly breaded and yummy. We also had a grilled chicken sandwich that was moist and served on a nice fresh bun. Will go back to try the Friday fish fry:) read more

We used to go here pretty often for beers and appetizers, but lately we haven't been too impressed with the service. Went there yesterday because we like the jalapeño poppers. We sat down and they gave us our drinks. It took them another 5-10 minutes just to get us menus. The manager had to ask twice for someone to get us one. We decided what we wanted, but no one came to check on us for another half hour. Our drinks were empty and no one offered us more. The place was pretty busy that day, but it seemed like half of the employees didn't really know what was going on. We had to try twice to get someone's attention so we could get our tab and leave. Next day we came back craving jalapeño poppers once again, only to be ignored both at the outside bar and when we came in to the indoor bar to see if we could get service no one paid us any attention.
