They may have a plumbing problem.... The smell of sewage slaps you in the face the second you walk in the door.

Passed this place for years not knowing they have great food. No fu fu drinks but just great standard drinks with fair prices. Ordered the heart attack burger and omg it was delicious. Hubz ordered chicken tenders and onion rings and was very pleased. We told them they need to advertise more. Friendly people and good food. We will be back. read more

I am updating my review because I suppose this place was subsequently shut down for a two week (deep) cleaning. Had to find out on the Joliet patch website ... Finally got to come here... Firstly, this place is like very reminiscing of a mother's / family members basement. It's nice and cozy. Came here in the middle of the day, and the crowd here is mainly middle age people. It's got an outdoor area. It's quiet and it may be sketchy on the outside its amazing on the inside! Things look really modern and great! Even the bathrooms. It's got food, pool tables, slots, darts. Plenty of parking too. I actually recommend this place and would want to come here more! read more

Haven't been here in awhile. Could have been much better. Lunch, dark inside. Poor selection of draft beers. Poorboy: flavorless mystery meat. Greek chicken sammy: Over soaked, dry breast drenched in an overly sweet sauce. Undercooked sliced red onion on top was nasty. Inefficient set up. They're open an hour later than a lot of bars in the area. They are usually busy - but the bartenders SUCK! The drinks are always decent in amount; typical bar mixed drinks. EVERY time I've tried to order a drink I've had to be rude to get the bartender's attention. I've also noticed even if you order your mixed drink first, they'll get 3,4, or 5 beers for someone who ordered behind you because it's quicker! Um no. I was first, I've already been waiting here for like 7 minutes, give me my drink. It's probably because they're always female bartenders and I'm a female - even if I have money shown in my hand they make it fairly easy to look over you. I notice that kind of stuff - and it will absolutely affect your tip. I'm surprised that there is sometimes a wait to get in this place! There was one time where there was this girl and a couple of her friends standing behind me. We had already been waiting for 15 minutes outside, in line. I remember, her name was Sophia. She rudely walked right past us, went up to the bouncer, said her name and how she knew the owner, and the f^cker let her and her 3 to 4 friends right in. I know that happens a lot in clubs, but this is a freaking bar in Shorewood. You should be fair. We come here because a like I said they're open later and a lot of our friends go. Based on that rude bullsh!t about letting those 4 to 5 girls in - I would have never come back. So cliquey and WRONG. Then to make us pay a cover and not charge them? Bad business. read more

In the capacity as a bouncer, I have worked in almost every kind of bar or club in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs so you could imagine I have a petty good idea of what a nice bar looks like and I say THE CROWD Around Me is perfect. Disclaimer: I have a huge bar tab and as a way to pay off my bill, the owner is allowing me to do small things like bust tables, clean up bathrooms and give sparkling reviews on YELP, what a guy right? Seriously, the place is great, it's right off the expressway, and has plenty of parking. Once inside, you can either sit at the bar, or take your pick of a spot either by the pool tables or dance floor. The jukebox has a huge selection of music to choose from and there are TV screens everywhere; if you ask, the bartender will change channels for you if the screen you're looking at doesn't have the game you're trying to follow on. The food is good and I would suggest eight chicken wings; four buffalo, and four parmesan or the steak sandwich OR a cheese burger, it's all good....oh I forgot about the breaded mushrooms, sorry. The staff at the CROWD are down-to-earth and friendly people that make you feel like a part of their family. Fuck this place. I got kicked out getting out the bathroom the actual toilet, was given no reason, only thing i heard was a security saying he knew what i was doing because he sold it... I have no idea what he was talking about but it was very disrespectful how they threw my friend on the floor.. Even worst when i was trying to go back and ask why they did that, the security guard said "by bitch".. I understand i can go to jail for battery but does he? So I was here about a week or two ago and I had a great time with my boyfriend. The bartenders and shot girls were beautiful and the drinks were strong. There was a cute barback there too....I think his name was Dimitri? Oh well. I wish he was straight because I had a friend who thought he was cute too but he definitely had his eyes on my boyfriend all night long. Funny story about him too (the barback)...he was carrying a few cases of beer and all of a sudden he set them down and RAN to the bathroom. The next time we saw him it was apparent he didn't have boxers on anymore. So overall great place and it would have gotten 5 stars if this Dimitri fellow wouldn't have pooped his pants after checking out my boyfriend all night! read more

This was are 1st time here, we stopped here because when we drove by we saw a covered patio and it was raining out and we wanted to sit outside n have drinks n dinner. It was about 4pm and the place had about 7 people at the bar. We asked the lady bartender if we could sit outside n eat, she said yes. Everyone was very friendly and nice. The food was also very good. The saganaki was AMAZING!!! We will definitely be back for drinks n saganaki n outside patio seating this summer. read more

You definitely do not come here for the service. It is a neighborhood bar where you go with your friends and stay cause they are open an hour later then EVERYWHERE ELSE in the neighborhood. The bartenders are pretty which is obviously how they got their jobs. I ordered a cosmo and got a stumped look! I even had to yell and make a scene to get her attention. Plus the bar was nearly empty! But the bar is a local favorite. The owner is a GREAT guy. The pool league night are always a GREAT time to go and mingle. The food is standard bar fare. read more

Whoa. That's the first thing I said when stepping foot in here. Every time I'm in town, this place always has a parking lot full of cars. Must be good right? Wait. There's a dance floor in here with a DJ? What? From the outside, it looks like it's aiming to be a 1930s type of place. Once you step inside, that imagine vanishes into thin air. Very interesting for sure. It's loud. You have to shout to have a conversation with a person next to you. Not too many people on the dance floor. But then again, who can dance to all that crap they play on the radio nowadays? The bar is full. No surprise there. Parking spots were basically being made up outside. It takes forever to get the bartender's attention. That's one improvement they could make right there. Hire more people. Jeez. All around the bar, people are trying to get drinks with one girl in the middle of it rushing to keep up. Finally, we get seats and drinks. Whoo. But wait, some crazy girl tries to pull the seat out from my friend. Apparently she left a bit ago, took everything with her, and thought the seat was still hers. Crazy. That's a good ol' Joliet crowd for you though. I think that was the worst part of this place, the crowd it attracts. Some wanna-be tough guys and gals who are still in high school. I guess that's the 1930s atmosphere for ya. Interesting. But not fun. Another incident involved with these people happened when we went on the dance floor. Some guy pulled me aside, pointed to this girl on the dance floor and said, "Stay away from her or I'll smash your face in." HA-HA-HA-HA. Yep. That's the kind of crowd you get here. Apparently, he was her ex-boyfriend and was there to "watch" her. Kinda creepy. The prices were fair. I guess. I just remember it being such a pain to get a new drink. Oh where to begin..... Well this is your basic little small but slightly cozy local bar. To sum it up they have some great booze specials so if you city folk happen to be down this way its a good place to start drinking. If your looking for something to chow down on its pretty darn good also. I personally enjoy the steak burger (everything is named after a mobster and I dont remember what its called). They say that its a "red hot new hangout" with somekinda mobster flare. Well other than the menus there really isnt much "mobster" about the place. Still looks the same as when it was Ali babas. This is as close to a Cheers! bar that your going to find. The bartenders always remember you and the beer always ice cold. Has that local bar feel to it cause well... its a local bar.. Anyway, the food is good from what I had so far. Drink specials are very well priced. The only downside is that the music can be too loud at times but that is more the fault of the DJ! read more

I can agree with Matthew on this one. The place is small and full of people that are just looking for a fight. I went around 1am when other bars were closing so I knew to expect some drunks but the first impression was bad. It was difficult to get a drink, it was loud, and its small so there is limited places to sit/stand. read more

I love going to "The Crowd Around Me". The owners (Terry and Sue) are the nicest bar owners I have ever met. They are always very friendly. They keep an eye on everything that goes on. The bartenders and servers are all very nice and they do what they can to give good service. They also have very good food, the new poorboys are so delicious as is the rest of the menu. If you have never been there I definitely recommend trying it. You won't be sorry. read more
