When you gotta be in downtown Joliet, and need a quick bite, this is a great little joint. There were some seats out front on the sidewalk, but it wasn't that kind of day, and I'm glad because when you walk inside, this place is a warm, cozy, dark, classic Irish pub. Dark wood, long narrow room, stools, tables, low and high, and lots of kitsch on the walls. The people were welcoming and felt like a family place. The waitress knew off the top of her head all the specials and what they were out of. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich special. You'd think it's a bad idea to order pork tenderloin parmigiana at an Irish pub, but it was a pretty good quick lunch. I was not there in the evening, but there is signage to suggest it's a place for live music in the evening, including Irish music on Monday nights. I'm thinking of coming back one evening. read more

Don't recommend going to this bar ever! We had the worst experience! We just wanted to stop in for a drink and some appetizers before going to the casino! Everything was going great until the waitress told us if we weren't staying for the band we could get our money back from the bouncer because we shouldn't have had to pay! We didn't ask her for our money back she brought it up. She told the owner and he came over asking if he could buy us a free round instead of giving our money back and we said no we were okay and didn't want the free drink as we were ready to leave. He didn't like that my sister said no to the free drink and called her a weiner. Very unprofessional of the owner of the bar. He told us he has to pay $1,000 for the band so he didn't want to give the money back and my sister responded "that's not our problem" and he got mad and slammed the door and told the bouncer to give us money back as we left. He was completely wasted as well. As an owner maybe you shouldn't be wasted and calling patrons in the bar childish names and it was only 8:30pm! read more

Nice staff but very mediocre food here. I usually enjoy the special of the day but this time I should have avoided it. The bacon Gouda sliders sounded good but were over cooked and extremely dry. I had to be in Joliet for work for more than a week and had lunch here multiple times. I also had a few beers in the late afternoon/early evenings. The service here is good and the staff is friendly. The food is good for bar food. I have ordered the tuna on veggie salad, the southwestern salad with grilled chicken, the tuna steak salad and cream of potato soup. The soup is the best, but all were good. Others in my party had cheeseburger, tuna salad sandwich and turkey sandwich. I heard no complaints. The portions are reasonably sized and commensurate with price. I never left feeling hungry or over full. The bar gets noisy in the evening, which begins as early as 4:30 in the afternoon. It was a little too noisy for my purposes. But the menu for draft beer is varied and good. The draft beers are inexpensive making s few beers here and a shot for 2 of us around $20. read more

Love the food here. We started off with some onion rings. Which were super juicy. Our server Sarah was very attentive and served us when I was looking for her or trying to get ahold of her. They even attempted some custom drinks for me and my wife. Which they made perfectly. The NY steak sandwich was really chewy and more medium rather than rare. We were in Joliet for a concert at the Forge and found this place nearby for dinner. Food was very tasty. I had the Buffalo chicken sandwich, which was interesting because it was on toasted sourdough and the homemade sauce was sweet and spicy rather than vinegary. I really enjoyed it. Fries were hot and crispy. My husband had an Italian beef with horseradish cream sauce and provolone. For the sandwiches with sides plus four beers our check was only $34! Things have gotten so expensive lately, it was nice to see this very inexpensive check. I would go back if I was in Joliet. read more

What a great find! 4 of us were out at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet for an event and decided to grab a bite and drinks nearby. We chose Chicago Street Pub based on Yelp reviews as none of us are very familiar with downtown Joliet. It's your typical Irish pub décor, pretty dimly lit. They have a huge menu! Bar apps, wings, hot sandwiches, burgers, fish, carvery sandwiches, etc. I had a difficult time deciding but ended up ordering the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It was a really nice piece of chicken dipped in Chicago Street original sauce. A little sweeter than your typical buffalo sauce. Really, really good! My fries came out crisp and piping hot. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals. We moved outside after we ate. Decent beer menu, something for everyone. We weren't planning on sticking around but enjoyed the live music until almost midnight. The other bar patrons were super friendly. Something we're not used to in our area (Naperville). The bar never got too crowded inside. No long waits for beer! We'll certainty be back if we're in the area again! read more

Stopped by before a show at the Rialto, I got the southwest cheeseburger, I thought they were half off, but apparently the specials aren't in effect when there are shows at the Rialto (which was not made clear on the website) but the burger was still pretty cheap, it was good not great, for a side i got cheesy potato casserole, which was good, something different than just fries, what really impressed me was the craft beer selection, both draught and cans, there were plenty that I had never even heard of before, of all types of beer too, I liked the moody blue polar bear ale best, so that was a pleasant surprise, there really isnt that much else in the area, so if Im ever seeing a show again I would def go back read more

This has become like Cheers to me. I'd just rather eat here than about anywhere. I get hooked on one thing at a time for a while. Started with the rueben. I'm kind of hard on Rueben sandwiches and this is by far one of my absolute favorites. Currently I'm on a shoe-burger run. Sounds like a weird burger but omg so good. Add bacon and beer batter fries... I'm in heaven. The staff is awesome and the owners are always happy to see me. The music acts that come are great and the open mic nights are really fun. 2 1/2 stars, really. The first time we tried to go here (a Friday night, some months back), it was *so* loud and crowded that we ended up turning right around and walking out. To be fair, these are attributes not surprising in a pub setting, but we're talking yelling people and very loud music (not live, just recorded, though they do host live entertainment as well), and since we were there for dinner, not just for drinks, it wasn't really what we were looking for. Exit, stage left. So yesterday we were back in Joliet and decided to try again, for lunch this time. Much more subdued setting this time, though there were a number of people partaking in lunchtime fare. It's quite dark (again, no surprise in a pub, but come on, you can't read the menu, and we were sitting right by the big front window!), with typical decor: bar mirrors etched with "Guinness" and "Harp," signs for Smithwicks, a bagpipe on the wall. I opted for a cup of the potato soup (bacon, cheddar and green onion cost extra on top, but what is it going to taste like without it?) and was interested in the chicken wings with a trio of sauce (original, spicy raspberry and apricot chipotle mustard), but the waittress pointed out that they don't serve wings til after 2 pm (why? apparently they take too long to cook in the fryer and it backs up other orders at lunch time and since people are trying to get out in 30 mins for lunch this causes problems. I would suggest that they get another or a bigger fryer, if enough people are trying to order this item that it has caused a problem.) She suggested in their stead "popcorn chicken," which could also come with the same sauce, so I went with that. The soup was barely lukewarm, and the predominant flavor note was the bacon. The popcorn chicken was chicken nuggets, which were fine -- white meat, freshly made, but not really what I'd had in mind for lunch that day; the complex apricot chipotle mustard sauce really elevated them. Without it, they would have been Happy Meal food. One of the other diners in my party got a special: 2 stuffed tomatoes, one with chicken salad and one with tuna salad, served with homemade potato chips and tricolored rotini pasta. She enjoyed this, and I snagged a couple of her chips, which were in the "kettle chip" style and not at all greasy. The other member of the group got a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, which came on rye (which he thought to be an odd choice), though he thought it was tasty overall; strangely, the ham appeared to be chopped up, though maybe it had been shaved? Hard to tell. I'd give Chicago Street another shot for lunch; they have a broad menu of sandwiches, burgers, and some Irish-style fare, and I think I just didn't hit the jackpot with my selection. Bring your flashlight for menu perusal, though. read more

Main reason for this review though is to say I tried the Reuben and I can honestly say it's the best rueben sandwich I've ever had. Why is it that every time I go to Joliet I feel like I am in a post-apocalyptic movie like Omega Man or 28 Days Later? Oh right, the desolation! While some of the western river towns like Aurora and Elgin seem to be enjoying a bit of a resurgence in the last few years, (to my eyes, anyway) Joliet is the same as it ever was and shows no sign of either sparking back into life or crumbling into dust. It just is. Which may be a good slogan for them... "JOLIET: The City That Is". Keep it, Joliet. My gift to you, no charge. Sure, yeah, it is a city of moderate size. It simply has no population, or none that I have ever seen in the downtown area anyway. This may unnerve some people, but for one with misanthropic leanings such as myself, I find it rather charming, and believe it or not, an additional reason to come back once or twice a year. Some people think that such desolation would attract the criminal element, but really why would it? There is no one to rob. Not only that, the buildings are all empty. There is nothing to loot. When the river pirates sail down the Des Plaines, they do not stop in Joliet because as they say "No booty thar be!" But if they did stop, they would find a swell place to eat and drink in the Chicago Street Pub. Even the snootiest of beer snob pirates would sheathe his cutlass and take notice of the sixteen beers on tap. I noticed, and I don't even drink beer. Any pirate that has sailed the seven seas certainly would demand variety in their beers, and they would certainly find it at Chicago St.: English, Irish, Belgish, Germish, Costa Riquish, Jamaiquish, and probably several other 'ishes I am forgetting. The food is very tasty and reasonably priced, so when you're low on doubloons, you can still fill up for a full night's pillagin'. I had a bacon cheeseburger that was excellent with delicious fries also. With several cokes my bill was less than $8.00. Considering the high quality of the food, this seems dirt cheap to me. Chicago Street is Irish pubby in atmosphere, but really the best place is in the beer garden out on the sidewalk where you can gaze out upon an empty city where no cars will drive by. I find this very pleasant and relaxing without the rest of the world around, just you and your friends and whatever buccaneers might be inside despite the loot vacuum that exists in this city. It is nice that this oasis exists in Joliet so that I may enjoy the desolation in comfort. I actually saw the bartender answer the phone, then hand it to various patrons several times during the night. There are a number of non-pirate regulars here also that are comfortable enough to hand out the bar's phone number as a contact number. I had thought such a practice was obsolete, but it is charming in its way. The PA is not much to speak of. A bundle of mismatched speakers, amps, and mixers that were not functioning properly and actually held up the beginning of the show, since no one seemed to be versed in their operation. Sonic quality was poor, if still functional. This is the one thing holding back Chicago Street Pub from four stars, in my opinion. Minimal investment would make this a fine place to see a show. If I were to judge the pub alone, it would be four stars, no question. The bathroom was somewhat rickety, but clean, so I have no complaint. This may be the first review where I have talked about menu and pirates more than PA and bathrooms. If you are still curious if pirates do or do not frequent this establishment, I have to admit I am unclear on that myself, and I am also unclear as to how pirates made their way into this review. So don't bother asking, matey, just go and see for yourself. And bring your club and a bucket of golf balls, because you'll be able to hit them in any direction down the street without anyone yelling at you. I've been to this establishment twice, and to be honest, I gave it short shrift. And in my ignorance, that was before I even walked through the door. NY'ers can be notoriously snobbish, even about dirty water street meet on the corner of 6th Ave and 18th street. So, it would be par for the course that any place would get the cold shoulder. I like being wrong, this place is freakin phenomenal! I've had their burgers, with fries and that "I'd push a priest into traffic" kind of good Potato Casserole, and it was one of the best burgers I've wrapped my lips around. And then weeks later, I had their turkey club sandwich, and the freshness, and flavor, and portion, made me homesick, because its on par with some of the best eateries in NYC! This place is close, it's got smoking hot food that is so freakin good it would drive law-abiding citizens to commit terrible acts against clergy (Which by the way I would never do...just a bit of dramatic license), and I haven't even tried the whole menu...yet. As bars go, this place is definitely a 5 star place. Chicago Street Pub has the best "bar food" around. The menu is just the right size - not too big, not too small. This is another place I've been to and not had a bad meal. The pork Tenderloin sandwich is my personal favorite, followed closely by the fish and chips. The poorboy is another solid option. Chicago St. also offers a very respectable selection of craft beers. As a certified beer snob, there are always enough brews on tap to fufil a dinner and / or drinking session. They usually have at least one beer from Three Floyds Brewing on tap, sometimes more. I've been fortunate enough to get in while they've had such gems as Bell's Two Hearted and Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. (The 90 minute was served in a pint glass - that was more than a fair pour for that drink!!) As of this writing, Thursday is $3 premium pint night and $1 tacos. The tacos are phenomenal, especially the pulled pork tacos. (Recently I had 3 FFF Alpha Kings, 3 tacos, and tater tots and my bill was $12. Where else are you going to find that???!? This hidden gem in downtown Joliet hosts some great local live music. Food and brews aside, the owners of this place are great folks. My wife and I have hosted two events there and Mike (Triz) and Kathy made both of the parties great successes. Both events were over a year ago and our friends still rave about the food, atmosphere, and how nice the staff were. We nearly had food by the time she brought our drinks. The next round of drinks never made it to our table as we left before she got around to bringing them, tho she had made it a point to stop by multiple times to tell us they were coming?!?! I had a really tough time deciding between 3 and 4 stars on this one. I'll tell you why.....In almost any other town, this place is definitely 3 stars worthy. I've been here a handful of times with my boyfriend who's played shows here on occasion. When I was trying to remember what the food was like and if I've given a Yelp review, I can honestly tell you that I couldn't even remember what the food tasted like. When I had it again tonight, I remembered why. It's average bar food. Not great bar food but not memorably bad either. They have some items that sound like they could be verging on the edge of culinary innovation but they just don't quite live up to it. Tonight I was deciding between the buffalo chicken sandwich and the frisco chicken. My boyfriend chose the frisco so, I went with the buffalo chicken. I tasted his, and he tasted mine. They kind of tasted the same....I also contest the two dollar sign rating. This place is definitely a one dollar sign place. Two craft beers and two sandwiches were under $30. That's pretty cheap to me! I also am slightly annoyed with the early end to food service. That probably has to do more with sleepy downtown Joliet and less to do with the restaurant itself. This place does have a great beer selection, super friendly service, and some great shows but, I don't think that I would go out of my way to come here. Thanks to Spencer S.'s review I checked this place out. A friend was in town for business and staying in Joliet, so I wanted to pick a place close to where he was staying. If you're not familiar with the area, downtown Joliet is DESOLATE besides the casinos. There is NOTHING. We were there on a wednesday, apparently not a popular night, which was fine with us because we were able to have a conversation and not have to yell. They pour a good pint of Guinness, which is always a plus. I had the "Irish Surf and Turf", which consists of fish and chips and a few links of irish sausage (kinda like breakfast sausage). It was great! Their Black and Tan onion rings were awesome - I forgot to ask how they made them, but the rings had little black rings around them, kinda like stripes. YUM. We got talking with the bartender a bit and told him that my friend was there on business, and that we looked up places on Yelp.com and he thought that was pretty cool. Before we left, we ordered a round of shots, and he came to our table and poured the shots there. He said "This one's on me guys, have a Merry Christmas." I asked him if he had enough in there for him, and he went back and made another shot for himself and took it with us. HOW COOL! That right there is a reason to go back. That's just good business. Wasn't expecting much at first to be honest. Was tagging along with a buddy, who wanted to check out their whiskey selection. I'm more of a beer guy. Was very impressed by their selection on tap. If memory serves me correctly: FFF Pride & Joy, Alpha King, PBR, GI IPA, Spaten, Hoegaarden, Guinness, Hacker Pschorr, Dogfish Head pumpkin Ale were what I remember. Was there on a Thursday and were offering $1 tacos and everything on $3 pints on anything on tap!
