Deliciousness - 3/5 Happiness -5/5 This place is for drinkers as it has no food, so if you want to lift an ale (and go out for dinner before or after, or bring food in with you), this is the place to be. They have a large beer, wine, and liquor list (although not nearly as many English beers as I expected from a place called Crown & Crow). I won't deny that I wasn't a fan of either of the mixed cocktails I had, with both (including strangely a smoky drink) being too sweet. But the beer was expertly poured and the wine was a very generous serving. The prices are also more than reasonable, which is great for a DC bar. But what really elevates this place is the service. By late night, the place was jam packed. But each and every bartender was extremely friendly and they expertly worked the crowd, getting drinks served quickly (which too few places manage to do) and swiftly clearing off tables of dirty glasses. I also greatly appreciated the free goldfish that they happily dole out to the patrons. The staff made this a really good time. read more

We came in on a busy Saturday early-evening for drinks before dinner. The back room was "reserved", but we were told to sit back there, given the size of our group and we sat nowhere near the party that was in there. The bartender in that area was friendly, but unhelpful, directing us to use the front room's bartender, even though she wasn't busy when we approached and asked for a couple of drinks. The bartender in the main room was great, he was very friendly and once he started a tab for me he said I could use the other bar too, I guess he wasn't aware the bartender at that other bar already told me she wouldn't help me. Regardless, the drinks we had were decent. For small bites, they only had gold fish crackers, I wish they would have had more to nosh on while drinking. Overall, not a bad visit. read more

Stopped by crown and crow last night 6/20 with two friends for a quick beer before going out for the night. Bartender Graham (super friendly Irish man) was great, very knowledgeable and fun to be around. The woman who was the other bartender (did not catch her name but gorgeous blonde woman) was equally as great , very kind, and funny. The pair was the perfect combo for the bar. Was caught off guard by how much fun we had, so much so we debated on just going back after visiting some friends at their place because we were bummed we had to leave. Would recommend this for a quick beer or to fully park for the night, you won't be disappointed. read more

This is another one of those places I swear I've reviewed and yet it's not here. Oh well. So this is a legendary DC bar (even though they've just been around a few years) known for the Victorian London era stylings and musings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior design is phenomenal. It's as though you're being transported directly back in time to the 1800s. Crow murals, gilded mirrors, exposed brick, crystal chandeliers, and a big wooden bar really exemplify the ambiance[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. You can get beer, cocktails, bourbon, wine, whatever you want. The whiskey menu is extensive. My favorite cocktails are the Paloma (it's really a fascinating twist on the drink) and the Wasp's Elbow (gin, lemon, and some other ingredients). The mixologists are serious about their craft and treat it like the art form it is. Because of their care, we're rewarded with liquid gold. read more

On an early Friday night the front and only bartender was extremely busy but handling the service in a competent and very friendly inviting manner. Unfortunately an unpleasant male back room bartender was opening that bar for our second round of drinks. After ignoring me for 10 minutes he struggled to find the right liquor and I also overheard him tell the second female incoming bartender that I was a problem. I was in the neighborhood attending a performance at Studio Theatre and had some time to kill before the event. I saw an intriguing sign on the street that demanded I find out what kind of place Crown and Crow was. The answer is it's a very cool and dark bar in a basement (with a forbidding-looking set of stairs) that serves a huge assortment of beer and cocktails. Fair warning: they DO NOT serve food, so if that's what you're looking for, you should move along and leave the serious business of drinking to the professionals. The interior is very shabby-chic, like something you'd find in NYC or London. I was pleasantly surprised to find it in my home city. It was a Sunday evening around 6 pm, and it wasn't crowded at all, although there were many more people there when we left in time to make our 7:30 show. I was feeling adventurous, so I ordered the Cuke Mule: Hanson Cucumber Vodka, Fresh Lime, and Goslings Ginger beer. I found the price of $12 to be very reasonable for a specialty cocktail in DC. It was very tasty but a little too complicated for me to make at home, but I'm glad I tried it and will definitely have it again when I go for a return visit. My companions and I also had an Aperol Spritz, a Vodka tonic, and (my personal favorite) Hendrick's G&T. We all agreed our drinks were perfectly made. Service was fast and friendly. I regret I failed to get our bartender's name, but I hope she continues to work there because I'll make sure to get her name next time and update this review. One point I'd like to make is that they DO NOT charge a ridiculous "service fee" or whatever nonsense management chooses to call the giant middle finger most of the restaurants in my neighborhood (Wharf) have embraced. Don't get me started. Bottom line, it was a unique and interesting visit and I encourage you to go out of your way, if you must, to see for yourself. read more

Bartender put his hands on me and physically pulled me out of the bar for moving someone else's phone on the bar to the side. I asked if I could tell my friends that I was getting kicked out before he physically removed me so I wouldn't be a drunk girl alone on the street and he looked me dead in the eyes and said no. As someone who has lived in DC for 3 years, Crown and Crow is hands down the best bar/dive bar in this city. Sadly, there aren't too many of these places left. It's somewhere between an Irish pub and dive bar... good people working there, affordable drinks, and one of the only places you'll hear indie-ish stuff on the stereo. The television plays movies (usually campy 80s and 90s stuff) on mute. So basically it's like hanging out at my apartment except I get to pat myself on the back because I went to a bar. Last I checked, they don't serve food but allow you to bring food in, although I've never seen anyone do so. It's more of a watering well. It restores my faith in humanity that apparently this place has been open since 2016. It reminds me of favorite past haunts. Visited this place after dinner nearby on a Saturday night. Its a dimly lit bar with 2 rooms and a bar in each room. Plenty of seating at the bars and bar height tables available. One room has a stage area and huge screen. My party sat at the bar in the first room and had a few drinks and shots. The ambiance was perfect: great variety of music that wasn't too loud and not overly crowded. I had a delicious Downeast cider that had a tangerine flavor (I like sweeter ciders). As an almost mid-40 year old woman who doesn't hang out at bars too much anymore, I was pleasantly surprised by The Crown and Crow and would recommend it as well as return. read more

I felt like I wonder into a speakeasy. The calm and inconspicuous vibe the entrance gives off. The crow dangling from above with no words and the eerie stair way down to the bar.. but fear not soon as I open the door it was a vibe!!! Beautiful setup with 2 bar locations. First bar is on the walking where everyone was being served and in the back a bigger bar was in another huge room. Bartender was on point and attentive. I sipped on a rum & coke.
