It was good, but I think it would be much better if they used more watermelon juice because I wasn't really getting much of a watermelon flavor. The deviled eggs with bacon jam were top tier and definitely a hit at the table. The Great American Way Burger, on the other hand, wasn't anything too special. Went for brunch with my party of 4. The host was so kind to find us a table as I accidentally made a reservation for the Las Vegas location. The waitress even tried to find suitable vegan options for one of my friends as the menu does not readily list them. He took the time to try to find a replacement for the country cobb protein bowl which our party really appreciated. That is above board service. The food was filling, but the temperature was not hot enough for the waffles and burrito noted by my friend. But I do love the non-alcoholic section of the menu. I've been to the DC and the Las Vegas locations and noticed that depending on which location you visit the menu can slightly change a few things. I prefer coming during Brunch hours which runs on the weekend from 10am-4pm. The buttermilk biscuits with honey butter and housemade jam are yummy. And the creme Brule waffles offer a nice sweetness for the sugar crave you might be having. And the fried chicken is to die for. Even has a gluten free option! But my fav brunch item is the gravy train. Which is a bacon, fried chicken, egg, and cheese sandwich SMOTHERED in gravy. This location also is within walking distance from a few metro stops. I wasn't sure what to expect with the biscuit French toast, but it tasted exactly like it sounds. biscuits turned into French toast. I ate here on Friday, 8/15 at 6:30pm. Once we were seated someone took our drink order and then we were asked if we wanted appetizers. I ordered the biscuits which probably would have tasted even better if they were hot. They weren't even warmed up. On top of that we were given the appetizers and no plates. lol. After wondering when our waiter was returning back to the table, we got tired and flagged someone down. Once the entrees arrived, I was thrilled because I hadn't eaten all day and it's been a long time since I ordered braised short ribs. Sadly my thrill turned into disappointment. The dish was lukewarm and the short ribs lacked flavor and seasoning. To make matters worse, the dish came with mashed potatoes and I wondered where they were. The mashed potatoes were drowning in room temperature gravy and they didn't even give me a 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes. For a $45 entree I was pissed off. I won't be coming back to Yardbird in D.C. EVER and for a 18% gratuity, the service should have been better. They actually had the audacity to suggest an increased tip on the bill statement. Went here back in September. I'll never understand the negative reviews to the food at this place as I've never had anything bad yet! It has got to be in my top 10 favorite restaurants in DC. I will say I have experienced iffy service which wasn't the best but the food and ambiance makes up for it. This go around I decided to get the Wagyu burger. I usually would do the fried chicken, salmon, or french toast depending if it's brunch or dinner. I'd vary the sides or mooch off my friends and haven't had anything off putting. Anyway, something spoke to me to get the burger and I was thrilled. I still think of the burger and it's been a month+ since I've had it. My friends will tell me I need to let it go but I simply won't. I do want to add that the server attempted to sell me on the steak frites after I inquired on the price since it's labeled "MP" on the menu. I believe at the time it was $75 and I thought that was not worth it. At one point she highlighted it was boneless. I chuckled as I've never experience a bone-in steak frites before. read more

Coming from the National Book Festival at the convention center we stopped in here for a meal. The only had a brunch menu, which I assume is a weekend thing. But before getting to the menu, it took awhile to get serviced. We walked in and waited for a couple of minutes at the host stand and, when no one appeared, we just grabbed seats at the bar. It took the bartender awhile to acknowledge us as well, and the service was pretty slow. This could be because the restaurant applies an automatic 18% gratuity,, and this can certainly cause wait staff to not be as attentive when they know they get a good tip regardless. I will give the bartender some credit however, because they didn't have the hash browns I wanted so they nicely offered to provide some truffle fries on the house. When the meal came out the fries did not, and the waitress/bartender noticed and said she'd check on it. I appreciated this as well, and soon we got the fries. The food was delicious! I had the chicken biscuit sliders, and they provide some honey hot sauce that you simply must try. It made an already good sandwich even better. The truffle fries were also good. I washed it down with a blueberry bourbon lemonade. It was on the tangy side but still good. If they work on the service just a little bit they'd be five stars easy! read more

A nice ambiance after a long day of work. We sat at the bar for happy hour which had a decent variety of cocktails and bar bites. We ordered a Tommy's Margarita which was so so - after a little remixing it was alright. Starting with the Chef's Tasting Plate - loved the deviled eggs, the chicken biscuit was standard and the fried green tomato BLT was delicious except the fat on the bacon was too thick. The bbq grilled chicken satay was standard as well but the star of the show was the Texas Twinkie. A burst of flavor bombs - the bacon was glazed and cripsy, the pepper was firm, cheese was melted with a decent amount of salt - this is something I would order again to soak up the cocktails. This is where I have an issue - our initial bartender Tamika was very polite but then ended leaving without checking on us or saying a word. 20 min had passed until our new bartender Mainor (?) told us that she left as well as forgot to put in one of our orders. First visit to Yardbird DC. Our initial introduction to Yardbird was during a trip to Las Vegas. So we made it our business to make a reservation and visit this location while in the DC area. We were joined by friends who were first timers. We were greeted as soon as we entered the door and promptly ushered to our table. The place was bustling, seems there was a company party on one side of the restaurant. In addition to the after work crowd. The decor is fitting, sets a relaxed evening vibe. Perfect for food and drinks. Comfortable seating and plenty of space for couples and larger groups. On to the food. For the appetizers we had both versions of the Deviled Eggs; the original and the Jalapeño and Bacon Jam. We also had the Cajun Popcorn Shrimp. For entrees, my wife and I shared the Chicken and Waffles and the Big Easy Blackened Shrimp & Grits. Our friends had the Spicy Blue Crab pasta and also tried the Shrimp and Grits. All of the food was amazingly delicious. Everyone raved over their dishes. For drinks we tried the Blackberry Bourbon lemonade, Firecracker in the Patch and the Southern Peach Bourbon. Came to YardBird for restaurant week lunch and had a really nice nice. It was about 2pm on a Sunday and the restaurant was mostly empty. We walked into without a reservation and were seated immediately. We had a server come by straight away. He was very attentive all lunch and we ordered pretty much right away. Restaurant week was a pretty good deal $35 for lunch and a good sampling of their menu. What we got certainly would've been more expensive at the menu price which seemed honestly pretty high for a somewhat chain-restaurant vibe but nonetheless we really enjoyed our meals and were happy to try popular items at a deal! To start we had the fried green tomatoes which is their rake on a BLT and served with bacon and pimento cheese. It was fab! For my meal I had a fried chicken sandwhich with fries. The sandwhich was juicy and tender and a pretty large cut of chicken! Very filling entree. For dessert we had key lime pie which was fab. I opted out of cocktails but had a delicious peach arnold palmer that surpringly wasnt too sweet and super refreshing! Overall nice family-friendly vibe and a casual spot for a bite to eat.
