What an...interesting experience. This bar sits on top of the Moxy Hotel, which is a sleek, modern spot in downtown DC. Unfortunately, getting to the rooftop was one of the most frustrating parts of the night. Access is only through the lobby, and the security team handling crowd control was completely disorganized. We were constantly being redirected with conflicting instructions: told to line up around the bar, then yelled at to move to the wall, then called to the elevator, then scolded for approaching it. It felt chaotic and unnecessarily hostile, like we were being managed instead of welcomed. To make things worse, IDs were checked multiple times (3-4 times per person) because there was no clear or centralized process. We were attending a birthday party that the venue itself had advertised on Instagram with ~75 guests expected at 9pm. When we arrived, we were told the rooftop was "closed" until 10. After waiting an hour in the lobby bar and dealing with the confusion above we finally got upstairs...only to find it already packed with people who had clearly been there for hours. The "reserved section" for our group was extremely underwhelming: a small space directly in front of a very loud DJ booth and a cold back corner where the heat lamps didn't work (and staff said there was nothing they could do). Service was just okay...no one was particularly friendly, but orders were eventually filled. The bar was oddly limited (only one beer option: Michelob Ultra), and some bartenders seemed unsure about basic drink requests (like a vodka soda with pineapple). The biggest issue came when we asked for the birthday cake we had given to staff earlier for storage. No one knew where it was. It took over 30 minutes and multiple staff members to locate it, and when we finally left for the night, the cake box was damaged beyond use with no remorse. Overall, this is much more of a crowded, club-style rooftop than a place for a planned event, dinner, or even conversation. The view is nice, but the experience didn't match the hype. They gave us the two-hour heads up, which was totally fair. The outside seating area was closed off because of the weather, but honestly it didn't even rain. That didn't kill the vibe AT ALL though! We started with 4 orders of chips and guac and omg the guac had this perfect little spicy kick to it, chef's kiss! Everyone ordered something different and the carne asada was a total crowd favorite. My sister got the barbacoa tacos and was obsessed. We also got the elote with chips (didn't snap a pic but I'm STILL thinking about it). And there's this salad with strawberries and chicken that I was NOT expecting it to be that good. Now let's talk about the PALETA SHOTS - you HAVE to try these!! We kept ordering round after round. Also had some Espolón Blanco. For dessert we went all in with churros and tres leches cake and I have zero regrets. The DJ was killing it all night, playing r&b and taking requests! Recently visited this rooftop bar during my stay at the Moxy in DC. Although my stay at the hotel was a nightmare, visiting this restaurant/bar was probably the best part of being there. The restaurant is on the rooftop. You cannot reach it without being granted access by the person at the desk on the lobby level near the elevator. This is a huge inconvenience to hotel guest who want to go, as you are forced to go to the lobby first before you can get to the rooftop. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. Flowers sit on the ceiling, nice round booth chairs, and great views of the city. During my first visit earlier in the day, we ate guac, chicken + shrimp tacos, & tres leches. The tacos were just okay. The chicken was better than the shrimp and the guac was cool but had no real flavor. The tres leches was the star of the show. It was some of the best I've had. I also had a mocktail which tasted as straight up pineapple juice with some foam on top. Our server was an absolute sweetheart, but could use some training on the register. We asked for our bill to be split evenly between two cards. Also advised him if this was an issue to just put on one card. He said he could do the split but ended up splitting and STILL putting the entire bill on one card lol we ended up going back later that evening, as they have a DJ that comes a few nights of the week. We had a BALL that night! The dj bought us a round of shots and I also had a mango lemon drop that was so tasty. I went down to the lower level and was lucky because they were only 3 people in line to Get on the elevator to go to the rooftop. After exiting the elevator I had to wait in line while the party ahead of me was being seated. But that was fine because it gave me a chance to Take in the ambiance of Lucha Rosa. The decor is super cute and great for taking photos. There was no available outside seating so I was seated inside. I sat for at least 10 minutes before the very abrupt and kinda rude guy came over and asked if someone helped me. I said no. I was handed a menu and was expected to place my order right away. I was asked for a card to start the order. The guy walked away after I gave him my card and drink order. He came back after another 10 minute wait with my card and drink. I placed an order chicken tinga tacos ( 4/10), guac and chips (7/10), and blanco queso (8/10). No one came back to assist me. We weren't told until after we ordered, received our drinks, drank them, and were getting the check to leave that they said they "only had Grey Goose" and so each of our drinks were around $10 more than advertised on the menu. Such a nice place for chill vibes on the weekend. I went for a day party hosted by Afrocode and the location could not have been a better introduction to the summer season. There were 3 bar tenders willing and able to serve the entire evening. Our favorite was their namesake drink, The Lucha Rosa which my friend and I had 6 between us; shows how good it was. Not too spicy and just the right level of sweetness offering the perfect balance. The churros were soft, flakey, and sugary on their own that we did not even use much of the chocolate sauce that it came with. We also tried the limonada de guava and vaquero which was really good. Had a good time at this rooftop bar a few times, but the last time was less than pleasant. I accidentally left my purse in the bathroom, and an employee (unsure their role) found it, and instead of taking it behind the bar/ holding it for lost and found, they held it up and asked if it belonged to someone. Someone claimed it, and he didn't confirm the license that was one of the only things in the purse (along with credit card and car keys... all lost now by the way) he just blindly HANDED IT OVER TO THE THIEF. I filed a police report, and called the manager to ask if they could check the cameras since their employee confirmed they found it and then ultimately gave it away, and they claimed they didn't have any.
