I got some beef and vegetable soup which was very hardy and delicious. The hamburger wasn't the biggest but it was pretty good. My sister, Sarah, and her husband, Joey, arrived in Sydney this afternoon to join us for the weekend. We met up with them at the Crown & Moose this evening. Gord and I shared an order of deep fried pepperoni. I'm not a big fan of it but Gord likes it. The pepperoni could have been cut a bit thicker as it was a bit dried out after it was deep fried. I ordered wings with medium sauce. I like a saucy wing but this was like wing soup ... waaaaay too much sauce. I put the wings on a platter to get some of the sauce off but it didn't really matter. Gord also ordered wings. He got his deep fried with Whisky BBQ sauce on the side ... he liked them. Sarah's friend, Wendy, and her sister joined us (they live in Sydney). Wendy and Sarah (they have known each other for almost 30 years). The bar was jammed! It was mostly people age 30 and up ... apparently it's the place to be on Friday nights. I would go to this pub again for the music but would go elsewhere for the food. read more

We left the governors pub because we never got waited on after almost 30 minutes. Walked over here and had the most wonderful lunch and outstanding service. We should have started at this place. First class service. Good cold beers too! read more

I had the pleasure of dining here this past weekend, when visiting the in-laws. I must say, i wasn't sure what to expect, but i never expected to be this happy about the Pub. I was in the mood for Fish and Chips, and this is the place the in-laws took us. The Pub was very clean, not overly busy for a Saturday night, so we got a table right away. The bartender started pouring our waters as soon as we entered, and the waitress had them on our table before we doffed our jackets and sat. That is not something, that happens very often. Get a rolling rock draft! Absolutely fabulous! So we started off, with chicken wings, onion rings, and mussels. The chicken wings with whiskey BBQ sauce were down right perfect, the right amount of sauce, and just crispy enough. Onion rings were good, not bad, not great! I would get them again. I can't personally tell you how the mussels were since i don't eat them, but my wife and mother-in-law really enjoyed them, and said the garlic butter was perfect. I then got my fish and chips. Sooo good! Perfect, Delightful! The fish was fresh, you could tell with the first bite. The batter was light, and fluffy, but carried enough beer flavour to be awesome. My wife was the only one not to get the fish and chips. She settled on the Fish chowder. It was more fish than chowder, which according to my wife is the way it should be, so she was very happy with her main. Desert of the day was Lemon Meringue - Father-in-law enjoyed it. Mother-in-law got the carrot cake and said it was delicious. I got the Chocolate Brownie Explosion - how could I not? I love all things chocolate, and this was all things chocolate. Chocolate Brownie Chocolate Ice Cream Chocolate Sauce Chocolate Wafers Whipped Cream - not chocolate. HOLY CRAP - It was amazing! Every Friday and Saturday night they have live music starting around 8pm The guy who played Saturday night while I was there, was very good, played some well known songs. I only wish he turned the amps down a little, too loud for the size of the pub. Service was impeccable, orders came out right, checked on drinks when they ran low, very friendly. If you are ever in the area for a meal, The Crown & Moose is one of the best Sydney has to offer! read more

Stopped in for dinner. Staff was warm and attentive. food was priced a little higher than I would have liked for what I received. I ordered a Reuben sandwich, which came with a quarter the meat that i expected and no mustard. I was expecting to pay a little more for it being a bar in the hotel. Best seafood chowder anywhere!! I had the pleasure of staying in the Holiday Inn for a week while on business in Sydney and had the seafood chowder every night here in the Crown & Moose! I am a huge fan of seafood chowder and try it at restaurants wherever I travel. This place has the BEST SEAFOOD CHOWDER anywhere! The other food was also great! We tried the club house, seafood platter, grilled haddock, chicken wings, and several other dishes and everything was superb! To make this place one of the best places to dine in Sydney, the service was absolutely spectacular! Mike served us on most nights and Warren served us on others and the service was top notch. Don't be put off that this is a hotel restaurant. This place has some of the best seafood you'll find in Cape Breton! read more

Husband and I both ordered the pan fried haddock with red potatoes and sauteed vegetables. It was delicious! 2 large pieces of fish and a plate full of vegetables. The waitress said it was the best thing on the menu. I was unsure about stopping here. We tried another place first but they were too busy. Really happy to try Crown and Moose. read more

ahhh... it's alright. I enjoyed that they have live music, adds a nice touch to a night out in the Cape. But the food falls short. The menu isn't overly appealing and definitely doesn't have many veggie options. We chose calamari and spinach salads and a warm dip. The dip was pretty good, with multi colored chips. Definitely enjoyed this. But the calamari was actually the worst thing we have ever tasted.....well tried to taste. It was sooo dried out and stringy that we couldnt even chew. R. never sends food back, and this was the first time I saw that happened. We questioned the server as to whether this was how they always served it and she said no, it's usually not that small. We told her the size was not the issue. She asked the kitchen and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Wow. I can't imagine serving that on a regular basis. Kindly, the server offered to replace it with a free spinach salad. Which were absolutely delicious. A great maple dressing complimented all of the ingredients. Everyone else said their food was just ok. Service was slow and we all got our meals at different times....that's a huge no-no in my books. I think with a little more experienced kitchen staff, this place could be great. But for now, it wouldn't be on the top of my list. read more

I enjoy the Crown & Moose. Have eaten there multiple times, the quality of good was great (and consistent), service was prompt and friendly and portions were generous (I tried but couldn't eat everything). The only downside is that it doesn't have that pub feel/vibe (perhaps because it is located in a hotel). Recommend the Philly! read more

Had lunch here on a Saturday. The staff was very engaging and attentive. I had fish and chips done very well with crispy batter and fresh cut fries. My wife had a Philly cheese steak sandwich that was very tasty served with a huge side salad that was really fresh. Good food and friendly staff. read more
