Great store, has so many things for the kitchen. My problem is I have no kitchen space, otherwise I probably would have spent much more.

I used to love this place. We had a group that met every Saturday for many years. We brought in business and were respectful. We shopped there and enjoyed our time together. Then a new owner came in. She told us that everything would be great. We were excited. Once there, felt sort of unwelcome but kept going anyway. We all sat at this little copper table with chairs and they brought us food and coffee. It was the norm and we were happy to have a circle table where we could all chat. We had a new lady join that week and she was told by the new owner that she doesn't want us at that table and to pass it on. It was to be for wine drinkers only. Well, why serve us there the whole time only to tell one person, not even the organizer about it. Owner sent a man over to us and we talked to him about it and we all brought up ideas and talked back and forth and thought it was ok at the end. The following week, a new gal came and didn't feel well. She asked the owner to tell the group she had come and that she wasn't feeling well. The owner asked who the group was and she started badmouthing us to the new girl! Another woman showed up and the new gal told her what happened and they both left. The group now meets elsewhere, but it is a shame that you treated a local group after the owner moves here from Spokane and wants to fit in, like garbage after meeting there for YEARS! Not only that, this establishment now closes early and doesn't stay open for farmers markets or anything local going on. It really is a sad deal that someone can come in and ruin a business that someone else worked so hard to build. read more

I ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich. The gluten free bread was pretty good as far as gf bread goes. The sandwich itself was teeny tiny! I was so disappointed, there was literally two pieces of sliced turkey on this sandwich. I could barely taste it there was so little. It came to $17.87 with tax and didn't even include chips. O.M.G. Bowls, kitchen utensils, pots, pans... everything you could want. First of @ll, my girlfriend is an excellent cook -- trained by chefs throughout the U.S. as a result of her former boyfriend who went from restaurant to restaurant worldwide to help them improve their menus, food selection, methods of preparing and cooking the food and its presentation. She is an excellent cook, always taking cooking classes, watching videos, television cooking shows, etc, etc. If there's a kitchen utensil and/or machine, device, or gadget, she knows about it. We'd spent over an hour in the store -- but, unfortunately, whatever purchase we made would have to be carried back to Arizona in our airline luggage, or shipped home. As we were visiting someone, we were limited in time. As she went from table to table selecting things she couldn't live without, I was close by and made note about what she wanted or thought was very attractive. Having broken one of five of her favorite set of bowls, I was trying to redeem myself in replacing the full set. These bowls were among those she used for everyday use, so she really needed just four bowls. She couldn't make up her mind about which she wanted. I got the attention of one of the staff, who collected the set I thought was most attractive, and asked that they be hidden from sight so that I could surprise her, having the bowls shipped to us in Arizona. I told the staff that they needed to be carefully packed to avoid being cracked or broken by the gorillas that load USPS, UPS, and FedUp trucks... so the bowls were set right in front of the cash register where she saw them while paying for her gadgets she couldn't live without. No harm done. Hope she forgets about them by the time we return to Arizona. Earlier, I went to their pastry counter and tried to make up my mind what to get our group of four for breakfast or a snack. I couldn't make up my mind so I bought eight of three variety of scones, which traveled with us to western Washington. This is a great place for anyone who enjoys cooking -- or having beautiful things for their home, including every sort of dish, vase, pot, bowl, pitcher... you get the idea. There are multiple varieties of every item imaginable, something for everyone. Prices are what they are. Quality costs, especially when it comes to cookware and cutlery. Yanno? The prices, I believe, are reasonable, having purchased a few items for her recently. The staff are amazing, from the own to the smart young man who took my purchases and helped me get them to Arizona. Oh, by way: the scones were excellent. We're coming back in August and September. What a wonderful stop, whether local or visiting! The staff, especially Dana, was quite helpful and wonderful to work with! They have an excellent wine selection, several well selected picks from the Napa Valley, but also several delicious reds and whites from Idaho and Washington! There are so many gifts ranging from go-all-out treats to stocking stuffers! The dining area is nice for those needed to sit for a bit or for grabbing a bit to eat! We will be back! read more

I have always enjoyed my shopping experience at the Culinary Stone. I NEVER had a bad experience while being run by the previous owners. Sadly, things have changed dramatically. Last August, I purchased a set of glass to be given as a Christmas gift. We attempted to use them for the first time a few weeks ago and one immediately shattered the first time ice was put in the glass. I had the original packaging and the original receipt. I was told there would be NO refunds after 30 days. The glasses were clearly unused. I agreed to their ruling with understanding and respect and requested an in-store credit. Again I was told NO. They wouldn't even consider an exchange for the identical item. This was when the owner appeared in an extremely agitated and threatening manner. She made a scene and threatened to "fight it" if I give her a negative rating. She eventually did the right thing but told be to never come back and that she would call Law Enforcement if I ever returned. So much for supporting local business. Their merchandise can be found cheaper on line any way. Not exactly the experience I was expecting!! read more

This is a really nice store and I used to love it. I've bought wine, chocolate , housewares and deli items here. But, like so many places, they have had a lot of turnover and it doesn't feel as welcoming as it once did. I used to love a pesto chicken pasta salad they had. Gone. Used to love that they sold the leftover soups the next day at a nice discount. No more. I've tried other deli items and deli salads and they just weren't something I'd go back for. Those were two things that brought me in regularly and I typically bought other items. But once your go-to items are gone and you don't feel as welcomed or important, you stop patronizing a business and that's what happened to me. Not sure if I'll step in there again. read more

I got to enjoy a wine tasting class at The Culinary Stone with some friends. We all thoroughly had a great time! The staff are excellent, professional and attentive. The food is delicious as well, our wine class came with a sandwich and we also ordered a cheese platter. The store has a lot of merchandise that will make you in awe and I love the design of the place. The only thing I would recommend is that the instructors use a microphone. Also I would recommend them pairing food that women can eat without ruining their lipstick women don't like tearing through a sandwich with their teeth especially if they are on a date! I am very disappointed in The Culinary Stone... Not to sound like a wine snob, but they made the "number one" mistake when it comes to wine and wine education while 'claiming' to be a gourmet culinary specialty store here in town. What is their mistake? They no longer have a wine sommelier on staff and have replaced him with someone with zero wine education... No doubt their wine selection will decline to Walmart class, and their educations seminars and tastings will soon decline to "isn't this label delightful? I just L O V E the artwork!" Ugh. If they offer wine tasting classes moving forward from the date of this review, I would avoid them at all costs because the person talking to you about the wine has no more qualifications to educate you on wine than your cat does to teach you physics. Don't waste your money, go purchase a decent book and educate yourself... trust your own taste buds and avoid the inevitable decline in quality. Without a qualified sommelier on hand, you will never get reliable guidance with wine pairings with any meal you will make or present as a gift, nor be able to speak with anyone of knowledge that is worth your while. If you're going to spend some money on a bottle of good wine, outside of someone telling you that the "label is pretty", abandon hope for finding a decent wine from now on at the Culinary Stone. Why the ownership decided to let their level three sommelier go who has a large, loyal, two-state following is beyond me. It does not take a rocket scientist of a manager to figure out that this is a mistake that will lead to the failure of the wine club and tasting events, that sales will decline, and lose far more revenue than it costs to keep a wine sommelier on staff. Sadly, after being a loyal client since they opened this location, my wife and I will never return due to their poor management and choices. We will simply have to continue ordering wine from Burgundy France for our cellar like we have been, and find a new local wine club that has a decent wine sommelier and selection. read more

I've been looking forward to visiting this place since its opening. I finally made it here today and the place was hoppin'! The Goods: They have a little bit of everything. I could visit this place several times and still not see all of what they have to offer. They have high quality knives and cookware to potato ricers and a plethora of silicon spatulas. What really got my attention was the wine wall, and the deli case that contained cheeses and artisan cured meats.....mmmmm......cheese. The prices here are on the high side (kind of expected due to location) and I most likely won't buy too many things here, but it's a great place to peruse or for trying to find that perfect gift for your favorite kitchen snob. The Staff: Just by glancing around, there was three employees, two manning one register and one walking around helping customers. From what I saw, the staff seemed pleasant enough, but it is a wee bit of a turn off to see that it takes two people to check out one person. Classes: As of right now, it seems that they're trying to do a class once or twice a month. Their website shows the upcoming classes, but states nothing about price, what they contain or how long they are. They seem interesting enough that I'll inquire about one soon enough. I'll update once I find out more. I love food. I love cooking. I will definitely be back to browse.....and drool on their cheese case. read more

Great atmosphere and concept but our meal was very lack luster. Chef Lesa prepared a Icelandic cuisine that seemed like something that would be eaten by peasants in war time. The fish soup was very dill forward but basically felt like you were eating a bowl of warm milk with a few potatoes and flakes of fish. The donut at the end was insanely raw and inedible. The flavors were good and the information and tips were insightful. I just don't think people want to pay money to walk away feeling hungry and unsatisfied. It's simply a poor choice to serve. Even the chef said her other cuisines were more satisfying. Off this experience we wouldn't suggest it to friends, but have heard of others liking their experiences here. read more

I have to confess, I was so ragingly disappointed with this place! From the outside it looks like everything you could ever want, but walking to the store you realize that somebody took a Williams-Sonoma, a Italian Market, and the wine section from Albertsons, and cut it into a tenth and then took those slivers and slamed them all together. So it has a wide range but no depth at all. And then when you look at the prices, 3.50 for a bunch of carrots? 12.50 for a jar pickles? $11 for a small thing of rice wine? Made with salami, Boars Head Ham with all the fixens and topped with olive tamponade, this sandwich is delicious I loved the delicious meat and real cheese in the salad. This is a tasty combo. My spouse & I visited The Culinary Stone on Saturday, December 7th, as we had a list of places & fun things we wanted to do that day. The store is perfectly set and appealing to the eye! We visited the deli and the young gentleman that was working was delightful! We tried a little cup of the clam chowder soup and oh my goodness it was fantastic! We also bought a few cheeses, pickles & dips. We really liked the tasting stations to sample the various oils and vinegars. That is a brilliant selling strategy. The deli offers a wonderful assortment of sandwiches, soups, and gourmet meats and cheeses. The café bakery has a variety of coffees, teas and desserts/pastries. The staff is especially helpful. Jackson, in the deli, and Shelby in the Café are my favorites! They always greet you with a smile and know how to accommodate whatever you need. read more

We haven't visited the store in a while. The wife shopped while I ordered an IPA at the deli. Didn't get an IPA, but a brown ale, even though the tap said IPA. Then had a growler filled with a different IPA. Got the growler home and went to have a beer. The beer was flat, and the growler was only half filled, and no it didn't have a leak. The wife bought some olive oil. It took the elderly checker at least 15 minutes to get us checked out while customers waited behind us. She had a problem with every aspect of the process, and had to keep asking other employees for help. We love the selection and the store itself, but we were truly disappointed on this visit. We won't be back anytime soon. read more
