Cakes were moist, and that Cookie Dough Monster... yep, that one was the favorite. The cookie dough chunks gave it a little salty balance with the buttercream and it just hit perfect. This woman overheard me explaining to my daughter they closed earlier and she told her granddaughter they were closed. However, as I was pulling out of the parking lot I heard the woman thank them and she walked out with an order. I have gone to this place since it's opening back in 2014 or 2015, and since the change in ownership, the quality of cupcakes and customer service has gone down drastically. Icing is skimped out on, the cake itself lacks flavor and the interior lacks luster. The serving trays have cinnamon and caramel on them as the cupcakes were dressed on the serving trays, instead of beforehand. Recipes seemed to have changed or not been followed and corners are cut resulting in lower quality food for an increased price than previously charged. This place used to be phenomenal. read more

This review is a double edged sword. The product is genius and delicious. Creatively themed, flavored, and decorated cupcakes. They're not just pretty but delicious and harken back to a time before everything tasted like processed crap. For that I'd give them a solid 10/10. However, I've just had an experience that frustrated me so much I'm compelled never to return. I'd placed an order on that "Too Good To Go" app to pick up a 4-pack of "leftover" cupcakes between 4 and 5 pm. They're supposed to hold the order at the end of the day during that window. I arrived about 4:55, but the point is my order should've been sitting by the side ready to be picked up. The worker looked me in the eye, said they were out of cupcakes and to "come back tomorrow." This was a huge inconvenience to get down here and who says I'm magically free tomorrow? The app kept reminding me of the deal but apparently didn't remind the store?! The app stopped my payment but offered not even the slightest compensation for their 'running me around for nothing' errors. Back to The Cupcake Store: the worker didn't seem to understand the assignment. If you accept an order from the app you've got to put it aside for the customer. This has become out number one spot to pick up cupcakes for events and birthdays and we are always happy. I stopped here once on a whim when I just really wanted a cupcake and loved what I got. We currently don't do anything big for birthdays, but cake/cupcakes are a necessity, so when it came time to celebrate we knew we would come get cupcakes from here. The past year of birthdays we always end up here and grab different flavors and they are always amazing! We have had mint, vanilla, raspberry, blueberry, PB, funfetti, and more and they are always sooo good. There are also mini cupcakes and regular size which is awesome and really helps when purchasing for kids because we get them the minis and the adults can have the big sized. My only troubles sometimes is that there isn't always a good variety depending on what time I go. They just simply sell out. This place has gone downhill. A few years ago there were nice people working here, and lots of cupcakes, macarons, etc. But I guess they sold the place, and now it's just...yuck. Went in today, cases were not even half full. None of the fun crazy flavors, no macarons, nothing else in the store. The place is super boring now. Asked the girl about the empty cases, she just stared at me like I was annoying her. Literally. Blank stare, no smile, no words. So I then bought a half dozen anyway. While she was putting them into the box, I noticed fruit flies flying around inside the case. I bought the cupcakes anyway. The girl never smiled or was anything close to friendly the entire time. She might have been a robot I guess. Some of the cupcakes were small, like the cups were filled with a tiny spoon of batter. Not the same big, overflowing cupcakes I used to get. For the price they (over)charge, I am not going back here again, and I'm not recommending it to anyone either. Anything that could have made this better - no fruit flies, a full case, a nice looking store, or a pleasant employee, would have me reconsider. But all of that together - no thanks. We have purchased for engagement parties, weddings, birthdays, baby showers, etc. Needless to say we LOVED this place and would never go anywhere else, until today! My husband and I stopped in to see if they still do flavor tasting samples (we wanted to sample the flavors since we haven't had some since the change in ownership). They said no they don't do that. So we just bought a few minis. The mother and daughter were very unfriendly and very unprepared when we came into ask what flavors they have. Ann used to have a lovely counter set up with all the flavors listed. She was also extremely friendly and was always so kind! Now getting onto the cupcakes. Each one we tried was absolutely disgusting! They were all stale and just tasted as if they had been left out for days! The quality of the flavors was just not there. Not only this, but minis are $2.25??????????That is ridiculous!!! Ann's cupcakes were so incredible you could taste and smell every inch of the flavors! We were soooo disappointed and will not be back! We enjoy supporting small bsuiness, but unfortunately they have lost many loyal customers with our family no longer supporting them. read more

Wow has this place gotten amazing!! We just did my sons's 4th birthday party and ordered cupcakes here. Everyone RAVED about them. 3 people took photos of the box so they could make sure they could go get cupcakes soon. A few years ago when we moved to Santee we had tried the shop and I wasn't impressed with the cupcakes and service was so so. However, since it's close by, last holiday season I went back and we've been going ever since. I don't know what changed but OMG the cupcakes are AMAZING. Every flavor has been delicious. The cake is fluffy and soft and the frosting is SO good. The cake is delicious without the frosting too so I feel Like that is saying something! They did a creme brûlée flavor or pecan praline last Christmas... I can't even remember but that was by far the best cupcake I've ever had. They also do 2 gluten free options and vegan options every day! Life saver for bringing treats to school or parties so the gluten free or dairy free friends can be included! Yesterday we got chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and chocolate mint. Red velvet was my favorite but all were delicious!
