Miranda did a wonderful job on both of us. I also saw (what I believe) the owner and another stylist working at the same time. Everyone there is so personable and friendly. My husband and son have been clients for forever, even when they were in Ramsey, going roughly every 3 months or so. It's a great spot with wonderful people. Anyone you see, you'll be in great hands. My experience was disappointing from beginning to end. The first stylist didn't take the time to communicate clearly about my haircut or make sure we were on the same page. I left with a haircut I wasn't happy with and feeling like the experience itself wasn't important. After contacting the salon, I met with the owner for a consultation. While she made some adjustments, the entire appointment was awkward. She barely spoke, so I found myself trying to carry the conversation just to break the silence. She didn't seem interested in building any rapport or making me feel comfortable. Near the end, she interrupted me while I was still talking, ended the appointment, and sent me on my way. I left feeling dismissed rather than cared for. The salon advertises itself as welcoming and experienced with diverse hair types, but my experience didn't reflect that level of customer care. I never felt listened to, valued, or genuinely welcomed. Every interaction felt like an obligation instead of someone who enjoys their work and wants clients to come back. I've been coming to Hair-O-Smith regularly since April 2018, when I decided to do my side shave and having already had my first positive experience the previous July when I did a simple trim and dye to hide those pesky grays for a wedding I was in. Alison has been my gal and she's awesome. We usually just do a monthly touch up on my side shave (husband does one in between cause my hair grows so fast and I can't afford going there THAT many times lol), but I've been branching out more recently and we've started to do little designs in the shave and I recently added some red to the front for funsies. I just shoot her a text a few days before I'm ready to come in and she has no trouble fitting me in. The NE location is convenient as well because I can just pop over real easily during lunch or after work. I never thought I'd be the girl who went to the salon, but for this one at least I'm glad to have found a chill and laid back place! PS - there is a (clearly marked) parking lot attached so that you don't have to park in the street, although there is plenty of street parking all the times I've gone as well.

The day of the appointment I got a call from someone else (stylist B) saying that she was running 20 min behind and asked if I could come 20 min later than scheduled, I said sure and that's what I did. I get there and stylist B greets me, this is when I realized she isn't the person I booked with, based on the picture. She said "your haircut is now with Stylist C and pointed to another woman standing by the desk. I had no choice in the matter and was already very annoyed but the switch ups but didn't feel like I could say no, plus I needed a haircut. Let's just say I was less than thrilled with stylist C and the haircut I ended up with. Also very unhappy with how unprofessional stylist B was, she never mentioned she is taking over my appointment, and she called to change the appointment time and was still unavailable. I also want to mention that I emailed the salon sharing my disappointment and have not heard back at all.. no apology, explanation or anything. So if you have a preference for a stylist make sure they don't change things up on you! Very disappointing customer service.

I want to share my incredibly distressing experience at Lua Nova Salon. I walked in excited for a new hairstyle, having shown the stylist a picture of what I wanted--a long bob (LOB) with layers. However, from the very first cut, I sensed something was off. The stylist next to mine reacted with wide eyes, looking back and forth between my hair and the floor, which immediately raised my concerns. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed as the stylist butchered my hair. Instead of the layers I requested, I left with a blunt cut short bob that was nothing like what I had envisioned. To make matters worse, I was asked to leave while still in shock and tears. My distress made the stylist uncomfortable--yes, MY tears over my butchered hair were making HER uncomfortable. I was asked to leave looking like this, which made the situation all the more horrifying. I can't believe I walked into a place where, within 15 minutes, all my hair was chopped off, and I was treated as if I were the issue. I felt dismissed and invalidated during a moment that was deeply personal to me. I cannot express how heartbroken I am over this experience. If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would. I strongly advise against sitting in Emma Carlson's chair, as my experience with her was nothing short of horrendous. Please be cautious if you decide to visit this salon. The receptionist calls to cancel my appointment because my stylist is going on an unplanned vacation (one of their kids gave them the trip as a gift for Christmas so why did they even schedule my appt in March if they knew in December they would be gone) and doesn't even try to fit me in, just says I can schedule with another stylist. Let me add to this that I have extremely difficult hair to cut and style. Not just "anyone" can do it. So I'm left high and dry for my Birthday. Now I have a June 1st appt scheduled and I find out today, May 26, that another vacation has taken priority over my appt and again they cannot fit me in before he leaves. When someone charges $108 for a haircut you expect some professionalism and customer service. Could the stylist call and try to fit me in? Nope. Makes the receptionist do his dirty work. Maybe he should just retire and vacation all he wants rather than make appts he doesn't keep. He never used to do until this last year. The space is cozy and feels like everything is placed properly (is that 'good flow?'). I love the services that are offered and may have to try something new.
