This pub has a great atmosphere with very good food, beer and spirits. A hang out for locals for a good reason. The layout of the tables and bar allows easy interactions with your neighbors if you choose to. Everyone was was happy and fun discussions abounded. Great place, period. read more

I had my first beer ever in Ireland at Currogower yesterday - let me just say I'd be back there in a heart beat tonight if there were not so many other important pubs in Limerick to experience. Everything came together: top notch friendly bar and table service, beautiful setting across the river from castle, wide beer selection on tap, and great pub food. I had a local pale ale, a Guinness, and their seafood chowder. My only recommendation to you is to slow down and have even more pints before you bloat yourself with chowder like I did. We absolutely loved this place! We got to sit on a terrace outside facing the water and Castle, beautiful! We got the mussels, fish and chips, and shrimp scampi and all were delicious! One of our favorite meals in all of Ireland! Very good attentive service and took less than 30 minutes to get a table during a busy Saturday night and soccer game! We went here on the recommendation of the desk clerk at our hotel. At first we stood out front debating on whether or not to enter. Upon entering an elderly local gentleman sitting at the bar said "good decision." Lol. He was correct! Our food was excellent! The Curragower was the first place my son and I visited for a meal when we got to Limerick. The hotel suggested that we try it and they did not lead us wrong. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The view from the restaurant is wonderful as looks across the River Shannon at King Johns castle. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in the area. read more

Similar to the post below, we were also referred here by our hotel. This was by far the BEST meal we've had in Ireland (and up there for me as one of the best ever). We both had seafood chowder to start which had huge chunks of fish in it (very filling!). Then my husband had fish and chips (that he is still raving about) and I had the most incredible (and generous) bowl of muscles. That alone was too much for us to eat so we'll have great leftovers. Besides the food, the pub had an awesome atmosphere and the staff was so very nice. Hands down a must if you're in Limerick! read more

After hearing so much about the food here over the past year I was really looking forward to my 1st opportunity to experience it last night. Unfortunately I must report I left pretty disappointed with the whole experience. To start with we must have been waiting close to an hour for a table. I found the menu very basic and over simplistic, not a great number of options. We were then left waiting a ridiculous amount of time between starters (only 2 of the 5 at the table ordered) and main course. I ordered the venison stew which was nice but sad to report not full of flavour as I had expected going by all the rave reviews the place has received. Only for I knew I had ordered Venison I would not have been able to tell it was. It was just a plain dish to me. Potatoes on the side were badly cooked. Just about cooked on the inside and hard as a rock on the outside. To finish inwould definitely say what we had was no where near value of what we paid. I won't be in a hurry back unfortunately. read more

We came here early Saturday afternoon for an early dinner and the whole experience was great. I had the seafood sampler which I think is supposed to be for two people but I did not have any issues eating it myself. It's a great way try different types of seafood in one shot. My wife had the hamburger which she said was good. They also had some yummy local beer. read more

The best mussels I've ever had!! Sit upstairs so you can view the castle and river. Waitress was super helpful even to us "Americans" :-)... no beer list so look on your way in before you head to your seat. I've been here three times this August. Awesome place, sit outside and enjoy the view of the river and St John's castle. The mussels in garlic butter are truly outstanding and don't forget to dip the wonderful soda bread in the garlic butter sauce. read more

Amazing seafood chowder, great atmosphere. Stopped in for dinner and were able to grab a table and watch the end of the rugby match. Very short distance walk from the Strand Hotel where we stayed. Worth a stop. Get the seafood chowder. The entire meal, from start to finish was very nice, and the wait staff spectacular. One recommendation, having lived in Belgium....if you are getting the chips, have them double-fry them for twice as long as they normally do. They'll be great. read more

Best meal in Ireland. My grandson had the seafood chowder. His first statement was it taste like the sea. It was absolutely filled with fresh seafood. The fish and chips were fabulous. We sat outside in a well protected porch area and enjoyed the outdoors despite a constant rain. read more
