So we tried this place for breakfast and we're not happy at all. My wife got the avocado toast that was awful to say the least. The avocado was brown underneath and top with green avocado so we didn't see it. They don't use fresh cut avocado it reminded me of a bad Publix avocado spread. They used so much lemon or lime to cover up that it wasn't edible. I had the sausage egg and cheese and really didn't care for it the sausage was crazy salty and you have to cut with a fork and knife just to eat it because it's piled so high. One of the managers who was in swim trunks was slamming glasses of champagne behind the bar while we had breakfast. The staff was very nice and the place is nice. I'm hoping we hit them on a bad day but probably won't go back. read more

My mom and I decided to stop here for brunch in Chattanooga on the way to Nashville to her Alma Mater from Atlanta. I knew it was going to be busy because it was Sunday and a perfect day for brunch. We waited in line for an hour. They use a line system where you just wait in line and keep moving forward until you get to the front. Then you place your order and find a seat wherever you like. After waiting in line for an hour we ordered our chicken and waffles and the elder mimosa or whatever they call it. The waffles came out cold. An hour and a half for COLD waffles. The chicken was moist but had little flavor had to add their "local" hot sauce. Finally the mimosa it was very fresh tasting. Nothing special. Also the grits nothing special. The Daily Ration is in a brunch restaurant in an old gas station/repair shop. It has some indoor seating and a large patio outside. You order at the counter before you are seated, so it helps to look at the menu before you get to the counter. They are usually busy when I've been there, so I usually have plenty of time to look at the menu and decide. We were with a large party and had to move tables together ourselves. Half of the food in a particular order came out at one and we assumed they would be right out with the other 2 dishes. I had to go ask someone to check on the rest of it. I met with family today for breakfast and my wife and I never received our food but our guests did. Their food arrived first so we had them start eating so the food wouldn't get cold. After an hour of waiting, I finally asked for an update on our order. The waitress said the kitchen was backed up and the food will be out shortly. We waited another 45 minutes and still no food. We told our guests they didn't have to wait for us so they finished their food and went home. We asked again where our food was and a waitress got the manager. The manager came to our table and we asked for a refund. She said she wanted didn't want us to go home empty handed and she would box the food up for us. We waited for the refund receipt and to-go food but they never gave us the food to go but did give us a refund. We were very patient and didn't really complain and all we really wanted was an apology but we never got one. I'm happy they refunded us but an apology or a little more accountability would have gone a long way. We finally left, hungry empty handed after waiting for two hours. read more

Me likey! Decided to go here for my monthly girls' brunch and we were celebrating one of our girl's birthday too! I was there early as I misread the time we were supposed to be there, but it was a good thing because the place was PACKED and I was able to get our name in to wait for a table. It happened to be a pretty chilly day so not many were willing to brave the patio, which made the wait a little longer. I took that as a good sign that this was going to be as good as I thought it would be. We ended up with what I think was the best table in the place, and our server came over pretty quickly. I just as quickly ordered a mimosa as I waited for my friends. When they arrived, we ordered a carafe of mimosas. Our server was great and didn't rush us and let us chat and order at our leisure. I ordered two things to try, the Avo Toast and the Asian Breakfast Bowl. Holy cow! The Avo toast was yummy. Very fresh and satisfying. The Asian Breakfast Bowl was right up my alley. My favorite flavor profiles are Asian-influenced, and this hit all those flavors. The pork belly, the soft boiled egg, the rice, the slightly pickled "kimchi" and pickles. Oh yes! It was delicious and just perfect for breakfast. Just the right amount of pickled, and gooey and rich with the sesame flavor I adore. One of my friends got the biscuits and gravy and I had to taste the gravy. YES!!!!! Finally another place that makes REAL breakfast gravy. It was delicious. Similar to BA's chorizo gravy, yet different and distinctive on it's own. It will be tough to decide between the Asian Breakfast Bowl and the Biscuits and Gravy. Hey, Matt & Jason, might I suggest blending the two together? Something like a Moco Loco? You have the rice and the gravy and the burger already...BAM!!! Just name it after me. LOL. We all three enjoyed our breakfasts and I had brought in a little chocolate cake to celebrate my friend. It was so chocolatey that we actually ordered milk! Ah man... It is hard not to compare this to The Farmer's Daughter. I'm from out of town and I stayed in Chattanooga last year for a month. I was obsessed with The Farmer's Daughter and every time I drove through Chatt, I stopped. This trip I was excited to try the Daily Ration because the place still looked the same. Sadly the food didn't match. We still enjoyed our time. The coffee was delicious. My husband ordered the Dublin Hash and I wish I would have got that. It was pretty good. My Asian breakfast bowl was a little flavorless. We also split the biscuits and gravy. I may or may not work at a biscuit place so I wanted to try other biscuits out. Theirs are more like drop biscuits. No real shape to them and they tasted of baking soda. Gravy was meh. Would we go back if we were in town? Hmmm... maybe not again for breakfast. Talking to locals we were pointed to The Daily Ration, it's a cute little hipster restaurant in an old gas station and the staff are one of the most friendliest I've met in Chattanooga. The staff sat and petted our dogs and gave us even more local insight into things to do. The atmosphere and vibe were very chill, great for our brunch date encompassed with a large delicious breakfast burrito and a sassy spicy chicken biscuit sandwich, all washed down with craft beer and house cocktails. Enjoyed breakfast at this neighborhood restaurant which was converted from an old gas station. The canopy was retained and provides some shade in the large outdoor seating area. Some plants, fig tree and willow tree and the little fence around the perimeter make it feel like you're in someone's back yard garden. The outside seating area is dog friendly (and cat friendly- a neighborhood tabby showed up hoping for hand outs- he was adorable). There is also some indoor seating. You order at the counter and food is brought to the table. Friendly staff and yummy food. We had the breakfast plate which consisted of 2 eggs any style, fried potatoes, a biscuit and your choice of sausage, bacon or avocado. We added a side of gravy for the biscuit. Everything (including the sausage) seemed to be house made which is fantastic. It was definitely a filling meal. They have a coffee bar as well as what appears to be a full bar. Bloody Mary's, mimosas and some other custom drinks are part of the menu. They also had some muffins and coffee cake for sale that were not part of the menu but looked good. They feature locally made hot sauces, "Hoff Sauce", and local coffee beans from Velo. I'm looking forward to coming again soon. The line gets long after about 9:30 though so best to arrive early. read more

My first review I rated this place 3 stars, but they've made some menu changes and so I've increased it to 4. Specifically in my first review I pointed out issues I had with the menu where it was hard to order for kids, no kids menu, and things like the omelette, while good, came, for 9 dollars, on a plate with no side, which is different from every breakfast place I've even eaten. I also suggested they add something like an eggs benedict. I don't think it is on their website but they definitely do have a kids menu now, and it is a very good kids menu, adults could easily be satiated off of it. For instance for 5 dollars a child can get 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and a pancake. That is a lot of food, they could probably cut it to 1 egg. My 6 and 7 year olds could not come close to finishing it. Then they also added an eggs benedict though it is so non standard it barely resembles the normal dish. It is more like an open faced sandwich. No sauce, neither hollandaise (what most places serve) or bearnaise (what is the true original topping), instead it is some butter fried sourdough with candied bacon, white cheddar, pimento cheese, actual bacon, two eggs to order, and then topped with a large pile of mixed greens. It wasn't what I was expecting but it was very very good. As I was leaving I noticed an omelette being delivered to another table, now with a side of potatoes. Not sure if it comes with them now or if he ordered separately. So they've listened and they've made changes. I can definitely see coming here more often now. read more

I've been here a few times & enjoy the food, vibe, and staff. Food: fresh, something for everyone (fan of the quiche). It's a great lunch sandwich spot- mix of classic and creative. The coffee is good, and there is a great cocktail/drink menu to enjoy on the outdoor patio (when it's not 1000 degrees and 101% humidity). Staff: always really nice and friendly (you can tell that they like working here). Vibe: other than brunch on the weekends, it is generally pretty relaxed and comfortable. Sometimes the bar has people working, reading, or painting. Definitely one of my go-to places to get things done with a good cup of coffee or have a lunch meeting. My dining experience at Daily Ration was good, but nothing extraordinary. Maybe my expectations are high as many of our friends have raved about it? Or maybe there are just so few non-chain places to eat breakfast in town that it makes Daily Ration look amazing? Regardless, I didn't find anything to get over excited about. Went with the in-laws on a fairly quiet Wednesday morning. My FIL had just ordered his second coffee when I got there. The waiter informed him that the refill would be $1, a practice that just doesn't make sense to me. I mean, Starbucks even gives you free refills of brewed coffee while you're inside the shop! I ordered a decaf latte, which they could not make. The waiter informed me that they didn't have decaf espresso. Hmph. Thankfully, I was able to have a decaf iced coffee, but really I just get annoyed when coffee shops/roasters don't have decaf. I am certainly not drinking it by choice, believe me. But c'mon people, stop punishing me! Enough of that rant. We ordered breakfast-- I chose the Delhi Me Up, an Indian influenced entree, kind of an Indian Eggs Benedict with chickpea pancakes if you will. Chickpea pancakes which they are out of. Another ugh. I settled on their vegetable hash and although the potatoes were barely lukewarm, overall the dish was pretty good. My in-laws enjoyed their meals, though my FIL was a little disappointed that his blueberry pancakes were just plain pancakes with blueberries on top (I'm not sure why they are doing this more often in restaurants now.) The service was just fine and our server was pleasant. Don't get me wrong-- our dining experience wasn't bad, but it wasn't standout either. I ordered the Worthington Street sandwich and was very shocked and disappointed at the lack of turkey on the sandwich. Two slices of thin turkey. Neat place, cool location and set up but do not, I repeat, DO NOT order the breakfast sandwich. It is a literal joke. A slap in the face. A disgrace to the name. It came on sourdough that was so hard I could've mined for diamonds with it. If I bit into this right off the start, my mouth would bleed for a bloody fortnight. 3 ingredients- egg, cheese, and a jimmy dean microwaved sausage slapped together to produce an absolute mouth-wrecking failure. 2 stars for ambience, patio, and mimosas; zero stars for the food.
