i'm from chicago and my family and i are visiting chattanooga for the first time. today we went to daily ration for breakfast, and WOW is all i can say. literally some of the best food i've ever had, chicago doesn't do breakfast like this!!! the pancakes were 10/10, fluffy and incredible but a little crispy on the edges. the butter was spreadable and amazing and the iced lattes were so refreshing. the chilaquiles were incredible and had a southern twist which i loved, and the chicken and waffles also blew me away. we love it so much we are literally coming back tomorrow. britteny brought us our food and she was super friendly and knowledgeable and gave us suggestions for what else to do here! overall amazing experience 10/10 i wanna take this place home with me. Such yummy food, filling portions, excellent coffee, mimosas, and service! Average price per plate is $12-&16. Sides are $4 & drinks can be bought per cup or in pitcher form. You can really rack up the $$$ here!!! It's so worth it though. If you're a couple, I recommend sharing something. There aren't kids plates so if you have kids I would bring something so you don't waste money. Be ready to leave a good tip because the service and overall atmosphere is great! read more

Unusually disappointing experience. Today my boss was treating me to lunch for my birthday and we ended up leaving here after an hour without even eating anything. 40 minutes after ordering, my lunch was delivered but the server announced my boss' omelet was made incorrectly and will need to be remade. Since service was taking so long and we needed to get back to work, he had to take his to go. I wasn't going to eat in front of him so I had to take mine to go as well. His omelette was finally delivered in the to-go box after an hour. By the time we were able to eat, everything was a soggy mess. read more

A great spot for brunch at the corner of Hixson Pike and Tremont. I went with my mom (vegan) and stepdad (decidedly not vegan), and there was something for everyone - a great, varied menu! I got the "Dehli Me In": garlic chickpea pancake, roasted sweet potatoes, curry oil, beet creme fraiche, and a sunnyside up egg. It was interesting and delicious (but I do think the beet cream fraiche was a little too sweet). (I also enjoyed a cappuccino and a cortado.) My mom got the avo toast (without the feta), and my stepdad got the Southern Benedict (open faced grilled sourdough, white cheddar pimiento cheese, candied bacon, fresh greens, bacon vinaigrette, two sunnyside up eggs). They both liked theirs, although he liked his a bit more? The good news is that they have a lot more dishes I want to try: corned beef hash, huevos rancheros with chipotle braised chicken...! (And that's just their breakfast menu!! They also have separate lunch and dinner menus!) And it's a cool place - lots of outdoor seating, cool indoor seating - it's definitely not lacking in cool. I really couldn't help but compare this place to the Farmer's Daughter even though they're totally unrelated save for the building. Even so, yeah, I was worried. Copacetic had some of the best baristas in town, and I really liked a couple of their specials on the weekend menu. But after trying the Daily Ration twice now, I'm comfortable saying I quite strongly prefer the Daily Ration. And so but that's all the comparing I'll do between the two. I've now been back a few times and I've gotten hooked on the Asian Breakfast Bowl, which is a pile of rice, kimchi, pork belly (I tend to love anything with pork belly), pickles, and a soft boiled egg. I've also gotten the Dublin's Hash which was great, but a bit on the heavy side for breakfast or lunch. The coffee drinks are very nice - worthy replacements for Copacetic Coffee, the in-house coffee shop within the Farmer's Daughter (not technically a comparison, right?). I can still get a Cortado or a competently-made Cappuccino that doesn't taste like hazelnut or french vanilla or pumpkin spice. All the other random things I've tried - a breakfast burrito they had as a special; and even the Avo Toast - are just as good, just different. In general, I find all the food to be very well seasoned. Nothing makes me angrier than bland food. Amirite? Lololololol. Oh and dude, the Bloody Mary... Forget about it. (Seriously though, the spicy version has a pretty good kick, so be warned.) We've had a couple little issues involving specks in a glass of water and our order not being put in to the kitchen in a timely manner, but the problems were taken care of and doesn't detract from my overall opinion of the place. Don't waste your time or money on this place. My husband and i went here for the first time on Sunday for brunch. We were completely disappointed and wish we never spent our time here. When you first walk in, you don't even see the tiny little host stand hidden by a pillar. The food is bland, small portions and comes out cold. Also takes about 45 minutes to get your food, and 15 minutes for drinks. Our server was walking around the restaurant on her phone and clearly looked hungover from the night before. She was completely out of it and we were not the only table she had that was complaining. Yes they were busy for a Sunday brunch, but our server came by our table once to take the drink order and once to take the food order. We NEVER saw her again after that. We had to search around for our own condiments and ask for straws from the bar ourselves. What service! We were here for an hour and 20 minutes total and finally had to grab a manager to get our check and explain the experience. We have both spent years in the food service industry as severs in the past, and I have NEVER experienced such bad service and terrible food. In the end, the manager was nice and took care of us. He replaced one of the meals for a breakfast burrito to take home (tasted like a frozen burrito out of a box in the frozen food isle). But the effort was appreciated. He also gave us a $15 gift card for next time, and comped our meals, but even that is NOT enough to get us to go back. Lastly, a comment on the exact dishes: The huevos rancheros has a sad excuse for enchiladas by being replaced with a few tortilla strips. It does not have ranchero sauce. It is a basic small rice bowl with beans, an egg and some veggies and sauce. Completely bland. Not worth $12. The shrimp tacos were awful. Cold tortillas, 3 small terribly seasoned shrimp in each taco and full of cherry tomatoes. Worst tacos of my life. It's paired with red potatoes which I feel was a weird side.. and We were not aware we could switch out for anything else. These tacos were $13. However, this place gets one star because I have no other choice, and because the Bloody Mary and mimosa were good. read more

2nd visit here for brunch. 1st was a disappointment but not so on round 2. Sat at the bar and was warmly welcomed by Sara. She is a fantastic host that doubles as a bartender. We visited for brunch today. It was busy, but we were able to get a table right away. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. I tried a cappuccino, with the house special roast. It was as described by our waitress - smoky with deep almost chocolatey flavor. I got a DYI Omelette and my wife the pancakes. Both were very good. I wouldn't say it was overly fancy, but it was fresh (fresh ingredients, freshly made). I definitely recommend! We will be back the next time we're in the Northshore area! read more

I LOVED this restaurant before it was sold when it was The Farmer's Daughter. (It's now owned by the Bitter Alibi owners) I understand that I came in at the busiest part of your Sunday crowd and miraculously didn't have to wait for a table (for a party of 6!) and that is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars. We were told 45 minutes for food because you guys were slammed - cool! I appreciate the heads up. However, it took 1.5 hours for hour food (several other tables who were seated after us received theirs before us). Again not super frustrated at that point the restaurant was PACKED your kitchen can only do so much. However our server seemed like she would rather be anywhere else but at work (girl, I feel you! But I shouldn't have been able to tell) and stayed super distant. She did get all of our food and drink orders correct so points there. The restaurant/bathrooms were clean as always and I love the hipster vibe. BUT what makes it so I will not be back was the food. (Which I used to love!) my chicken was over fried and dry. My daughter ordered bacon and it was literally 2 strips of fat. She started choking and I had to literally pull it out of her throat. (GROSS! - but she is fine) I enjoyed coming to the Daily Ration but it seems your customer service and quality control on your food is just not up the standard I had come to expect. After this experience as well as several other mediocre ones recently we will not be back. I unfortunately can no longer recommend The Daily Ration. read more

I used to come here a few times a week back when it was another place, a different place, a place very dear to my heart. The owners kicked back, and asked Matt and Jason to come in and give it a spruce. Matt and Jason? Well, they knocked it out of the park! I love these guys, they are what restaurant owners should be. They're passionate about what they put on a plate, they're passionate about community, and they're passionate about their employees. It's not just a restaurant, it's a homestead. Matt's probably running around somewhere right now busting his head thinking about how to make your experience that much better, and Jason, well, he's been in the game for a while, so he pops in the kitchen from time to time to make your experience that much better from a completely different perspective. It's got a personal touch. Okay, enough with the romanticism. Get the Sir Reuben. Get the Drop The Beet Reuben. Get the Asian Breakfast Bowl. Get the Cous Cous & Goat Feta Salad. Oh, the coffee? Molly's doing something crazy behind that bar. She knows her stuff. Try her. Seriously. She recently went to some coffee conference thing in Portland, and she's sourcing coffee from everywhere. I don't understand it, because I just drink Folgers at home (just kidding, Velo for life, bb) but when I'm here, it's a whole 'nother experience. Oh, and they're doing cocktails. It's about time North Chattanooga got a real strong bar with people who know what they're doing. The Rumlada is a personal favorite because summer and, oh yeah, rum. Rum's good for the body. Go whenever, but they just put in a new speaker system, hanging lights, and repurposed garage doors to connect you to one of the best patios in the city, so nighttime is the right time. I'd been before and enjoyed it quite a bit but this time was different. As soon as I got out of my car one of the servers shouted at me because she thought I hit her car with my car door. This should have been an omen of the shit show to come. The Food sucked, the drip coffee REALLY sucked, and they forgot our mimosas but I can forgive it all if they were at least nice to us. Visiting Chattanooga- this was our FAVORITE place to eat, by far. Had brunch on the way out of town, and my deepest regret is that I didn't eat here everyday I was in town. Very, very, very disappointed in my experience here today after enjoying it tremendously on previous visits. Came on a busy morning, as usual, and knew there'd be a wait for our food, which would've been totally fine. We ordered immediately after coffee knowing if we didn't order right away, we would be there longer than we had time for today. In the 45 minutes we waited before getting anxious, we watched 4 tables that ordered after us get their food before us without our waitress coming to check on us. When we finally were able to get someone to stop, she said she'd check on it. Shortly after, someone else (suspect a manager) came to our table to tell us it would be 10-15 more minutes as a big table ordered before us. So, not only did our waitress ignore us for almost an hour, but our food was quite obviously forgotten as we watched 4 tables get served before us (and the same food we ordered was being served to them, so it's not even justifiable that our food just took longer). Instead of admitting that something had gone wrong, we were told we got our in after a huge party. The manager was apologetic (but not apologetic enough to not charge us for our coffee), but I couldn't believe we were told, an hour after ordering, that it was because of when we got in after watching those tables that sat down after us get served first. Had we been told the truth or at least not ignored, Daily Ration would not have lost our business. I've never been so disappointed with the way I was treated as a customer, and will not be returning. First time ever feeling so compelled to leave a negative review, but I am truly shocked at the entirety of how this was handled today. read more

I was very much looking forward to visiting here again as it had been a while, but was very disappointed with our experience yesterday. First, you now have to order food at the counter, pay and leave tip at the time of ordering. We had breakfast. The eggs and sausage were tasty and well prepared however the biscuits were semi hard, dry and very heavy. My wife had gravy and it was brought out Luke warm. Server didn't bring out any jams which made it difficult to eat my dry biscuit. We had to track down a server to bring out clean silverware as the first set brought to my wife was dirty. A server never returned to refill any drinks or to ask if we needed anything else. Overall, a very disappointing visit. Hopefully they were just having a bad day. read more
