The room was clean and staff was friendly. They had basic continental breakfast options such as cereal, bagels, and cream cheese.

I had two rooms booked on 4/10/25 for a trip on 8/8-8/10/25. Room 209 and 212 in the side building and we stayed here about the same date in 2024 as well. Construction/Remodeling have been going on for over a year yet these room haven't changed. I think I had room 212 or 214 in 2024. But now I think the Rayland Hotel and The Dalles Inn are two different properties but all managed through the same lobby? These side building rooms don't match with the $175/night price. Outlets so worn that the weight of a cord pulls it out of the socket, WIFI signals that are week at best, hole patches where spackle is just slapped on, filling in the wall texture and then not painted over. Porcelain over cast tubs that are chipped exposing the cast iron. Wood baseboards pulled out from the wall. Headboards that have small tears/punctures in them and look like a cat tried to run up them. Toilet flushes take 20 seconds to flush and seem to use about 10 gallons of water to do it. The Dalles Inn was disappointing because now I see they are different "levels" of stay, but even so, for the pricing, the rooms should/could be much better. Replace some plugs, take some time and spackle better, replace a toilet (and save the business thousands of gallons of water). Just some relatively simple stuff, checked and fixed on a regular basis makes The Dalles in a much better stay. It was clean, but for the price, I just can't recommend The Dalles in until is more like the Rayland Hotel. read more

The "renovations" are actually new construction of a very large hotel that is still underway with unpredictable conditions. For us it meant a room opening directly onto a parking lot and busy street, not what anyone could call an "Inn", and breakfast in a paper bag with nowhere to sit. I'm kind of a low end/high-end girl when it comes to lodgings. My preference is for independently owned businesses of either kind. I'm all up for splurging on destination lodging on occasion, but because I tend to arrive late at night, the amenities are often wasted on me. If you're looking for reliable and reasonably priced lodging in The Dalles, Oregon, I highly recommend you consider The Dalles Inn. It's an independently owned and older property that is well-maintained and has loyal staff. it is centrally located on the west end of the main street that goes through town. The best rooms are in the four-story hotel but there are also two stories of rooms outside of the hotel that have stairs leading up to them from the outside, similar to a motel. I've stayed in both the hotel and the separate building several times. I would be happy with either. There is safe parking. Pre-pandemic, they had a lovely breakfast that rivals that of any I've had in hotels closer to twice the price. Due to the shortage of staff, the breakfast room isn't open right now but they prepare a lovely bag of breakfast goodies for you to take with you as you leave, or bring back up to your room. My most recent stay was on 9/14/22. I had contemplated traveling to see my father in Washington via Walla, Walla, WA, in part because I wanted to stay at the boutique property, The Finch. Online, they were advertising rooms for $157 per night. But when I called, they wanted to sell me a room for $220 plus per night because they were hidden fees and the room advertised online only had a bunkbed. I told them I wanted to look around and we call back if I was interested. I started doing a little research and thank goodness I did, because one of the things that came up repeatedly was customers complaining about the paperthin walls. I got the sense that this remodeled property might have formally been a Motel 6, which I avoid at all costs. I don't care how bougie a place is, I'm not paying a premium for paperthin walls. That's part of the reason why I prefer older properties. I quickly decided to travel via my normal route and called to get a room at The Dalles Inn. One of the nice things about independently owned businesses that are well-maintained is they usually provide a high level of customer service, which I have always found to be the case at The Dalles Inn. They generally don't have hidden fees either. When I called, the room that were available were outside of the hotel, which I was OK with, but the woman taking my reservation said she would make a note that if there was a cancellation of a similar room inside the hotel prior to my arrival, they would give me that room instead. As it turned out, I was able to get a room on the fourth floor. With my AARP discount, my room cost $81 as quoted. There were no hidden fees. The room was worth every penny. I can't remember the last time I got such a good nights sleep in a hotel room. Usually when I stay at hotels/motels, I need to use ear plugs. Not here. I love that the rooms at The Dalles are large and have bathtub/shower combos. Most newly built properties do not. Everyone seems to be going towards a design that looks similar to what I would consider a fancy Motel 6, including even the new Best Westerns. I had everything I needed in my room, including a well concealed mini fridge. I've been told of the owners of this property also have one or more in Albany, Oregon. I don't ever have a reason to go through Albany, but if I did, I would certainly be researching which properties they own. Highly Recommended!!! read more

THE KEYS THEY ASSIGNED US FOR THREE OF OUR ROOMS OPENED ALL THE DOORS ON OUR FLOOR THAT USED KEYED (as opposed to key card) ENTRY! THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHEN A STRANGER OPENED MY 19 YEAR OLD'S ROOM USING A KEY HE WAS ISSUED AT THE FRONT DESK! The management is aware and while they did relocate us to new rooms they refused to refund the the night spent in unsecured rooms, which caused reasonable anxiety to five of our family members throughout the three rooms. THEY DID NOT FIX THE LOCKS AND THEY CONTINUE TO RENT OUT THE UNSECURED ROOMS. DO NOT ACCEPT ROOMS WITH AN ACTUAL KEY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!! They also have a rodent problem and there is general disrepair throughout including every toilet in the six rooms I rented. The staff were very nice and helpful, this is clearly a case of greedy owners not taking care of the property while their hard working employees and unsuspecting patrons pay the price. read more

I just got a call from the manager of the hotel who sincerely apologized for the breakdown in service where snow wasn't removed on stairs He said there had been a death in the family that morning. He normally gets those things taken care of immediately. And he's also going to make sure that the front desk handles things a little differently in the future. My biggest complaint is that it snowed overnight and nothing was done to remove the snow on the very steep steps Other issues include a mattress on a very slippery boxspring that slides every time you sit down making it extremely precarious as it hangs over the edge. it would be very easy for a short person like me to sit on the edge because it's really tall and just slide off onto the floor. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! BED BUGS!!!! We booked this hotel last minute and it was significantly cheaper than the other hotels in town. We quickly found out why. We checked in at about 8:15 but didn't go into the room until about 9:30 because we grabbed some food. Upon entering the hotel we noticed the hallway carpets were dirty and had many large, dark stains on them. I should have turned around and booked somewhere else then. Let me start by saying I have NEVER had a bed bug issue. However, I do travel a lot and know what to look out for. I usually always check the mattresses in a hotel before opening any bags but last night I was exhausted and skipped this. I have never regretted any decision more in my life. I'd been laying in bed for about an hour complaining about how itchy I was, but figured it was just dry skin or something. Just as I was about to drift off to sleep, my partner said the most harrowing words anyone can say in a hotel room: "Hey babe, does this look like a bed bug to you?" The bug he was looking at was on the lampshade and absolutely was an adult bed bug. It was clear it had fed recently, as you could see the blood in it. We began inspecting and also found a couple baby bedbugs crawling on the WALLS. I immediately threw my things back into my bags and went down to the front desk to ask for a refund. I do want to say that the girl working the desk was apologetic, kind and helpful. She got us trash bags to put our bags in and directed us to a laundromat. She began processing our refund and promised to call the next day to make sure that it went through. I asked her to have her manager call me ASAP because I knew she couldn't do more than that, but a simple refund is NOT enough to make this situation right. It was 11 PM when I left the hotel. Because I had opened my bag and sorted through my things EVERYTHING I had with me was exposed. I was up until 3:30 AM doing the basic amount of laundry required so that I could confidently go into another hotel without potentially bringing them the gift of creepy crawlies from The Dalles Inn. I had to spend another $250 on a hotel that I only slept a few hours in. And because I had to wear clothes that I had worn in the hotel room in my car, my car was fully contaminated. I've spent today baking my car in 90 degree sunshine with the heater occasionally running so that I can get all of my belongings to a temperature above 115 degrees to kill any bugs. I'm sure many of my things will be ruined from this. I had to buy a new outfit, more trash bags, laundry detergent, and even toiletries because the bags containing them had all been contaminated. One hour in this godforsaken hell hole cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I had to extend my trip a full day so that I can heat treat everything and then do all of my laundry so as not to risk exposing my home, my roommates, and my community to bed bugs. With all the spare time I have while I'm baking everything I own, I read some reviews and saw that other people have complained about bed bugs in their rooms and said that management blew them off. I called the desk this morning to ask to speak to the manager about being reimbursed for my time and trouble. The person working assured me that the employee from the night before had reached out to their manager, and that she would too and that the manager would be reaching out to me soon. After 5 hours I called again and was told that no manager would contact me until Monday. I'm stranded 12 hours from home, infested with bugs that management knew they had, and spending money like crazy to correct it and management can't be bothered to call me back. While both of the front desk workers I delt with were extremely kind and professional it is clear that the management does not care about the cleanliness of this hotel, any of it's patrons, or not being a health hazards to their community. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. YOU WILL REGRET IT. read more

Booked a room via Groupon, so price was good. This hotel like much of the dalles is beginning to bounce back from the timber and aluminum businesses bottoming out. Room was clean and well maintained if a bit dated. Front desk staff was very friendly at check in. Can't beat the location, lots of fun places to eat and drink within walking distance. Seems to be a local owner operator, and you have to give them credit for not walking away and shutting down when the local economy has bottomed out many times over the last 30 years. Of your options for lodging in the hart of the dalles, this is the best thing going. If chipped paint, clean carpet that has seen better days, or the interesting cast of characters that prefer to stay in the middle of a small town are going to bother you, there are plenty of corporate chain places off the interstate at the west end of town. read more

Disappointed pretty much sums it up. I chose this place because I was under the impression it was a "downtown" style hotel- all in one building, multiple floors, elevators. They also market themselves as a "nice" establishment. Well, here we sit in an out building that feels like it was once a motel 6 or something. Which hey, if you're a motor inn, that's great. But don't pretend to be a downtown hotel. The good: The bed was comfortable and the sheets and blankets smelled/looked clean. It's within walking distance of several restaurants. The bad: The bathroom desperately needs to be remodeled. The discolored caulk in the tub, the dingy light switches, and my god the carpet. The carpet turned our socks black. Our room was ready on time and the place was clean. Pool was clean and it was nice to take a dip to cool off before heading out for dinner. Location of the property is perfect; we were right in the middle of the downtown area and close to many food and drink options. Staff were friendly. Property is a bit older, but for the price and location, we still felt that it was a good value. TV doesn't get loud enough to hear over the roar of the AC. Parking lot spaces were a little tight. Breakfast was hard-boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, cereal, and apples. I think there was supposed to be bread for toast, but all I saw were end slices of bread. Could be improved by offering hot scrambled eggs and some meat like sausage or bacon. read more

We arrived late the night of Dec 18th. We were assigned a room, card keyed in, opened the door and woke up an occupant who jumped out of bed with a yelp in their undies. Shocked ourselves, we shrieked and quickly closed the door. With both parties successfully freaked out and embarrassed, we retreated to reception. Reception was angry with herself more than apologetic and offered us the room next door. I politely asked not to share a wall with the naked guy we just woke up. Mistakes do happen, but this is Hotel Management 101 here folks. One should know who is occupying what (or at least what is occupied). Underwear guy -- I hope you asked for a refund for your stay. There weren't too many bells and whistles but it is centrally located near restaurants and bars and very accessible to 84 and 14 so you won't get lost. I usually stay at the Celilo Inn while in the Dalles but decided to try The Dalles Inn this time as I had heard some good things. This hotel is a very nice place to stay. It is centrally located downtown within easy walking distance to shops, the river walk and restaurants (Clock Tower Ales is right next door). The rooms were clean and well sized. It included a refrigerator, a DVD player, flat screen LCD tv and free wireless Internet (although not very fast). I stayed in the Tower section which it looks like from other reviews is the nicer section. Did not have the free breakfast or use the exercise room so can't comment on this but did use the pool. It was a bit on the small side and because it was totally enclosed the window of sun exposure is not what I would have liked. However it was not crowded and kept clean which is good. The staff was very friendly and always greeted you in the halls. Renee helped me with both check in and check out and was very friendly and efficient. I would definitely stay here again. read more

My elderly mother and I had a wonderful stay here on our way to the coast from Utah. The rooms were clean, newly appointed with lovely linens and ultra comfortable mattresses. Service from front desk was very helpful, both before we arrived and on check in. I find one of the most important contacts is that initial phone call, and we were treated very professionally, welcomed to the Dalles before we even arrived. We loved we were given a nice discount as well. Our stay was quiet, we both slept like logs, and the breakfast was one of the best. I do appreciate the fresh, make your own waffles. along with the usual fare of yogurt, fresh fruit, breads and bagels, cereals, 3 types of fresh juices and hot drinks. The breakfast room is splendid with nice sunshiney windows over the old fashioned downtown main street. There are nice comfortable booths in the breakfast room, and it was fun socializing with a few guests there. I only wish we would have arrived in the daytime, and not had to leave so rapidly. It is the perfect spot to be able to wander the old historic main street. We both enjoyed this small hotel, and felt safe and well looked after. read more

We stopped at this spot on the way to Washington, and really enjoyed our stay. We have a 55 lb lab puppy and they allowed him to stay with only a $15 pet fee. They also had a little basket with a dog sheet (which we put over the main comforter since that's where he sleeps) 2 dog bowls, some doggie bags, and some dog treats. It was the cutest little dog accommodation! The front desk staff were very nice! Both of them loved our dog and were extremely helpful! We stayed at The Dalles for one night as we were passing through a few weeks ago. It's a good value for exactly what you might expect - a basic motel/hotel option. Our room was overall clean and comfortable, though outdated. The Inn's location in the older downtown area allows for walking to some cool antique shops and a few restaurants. The man who checked us in when we arrived was SUPER friendly and welcoming. The women who helped us with checkout the following morning was the EXACT opposite, unfortunately. The type of person where you immediately get the feeling of - wow, you really hate your job huh? I had noticed there was a $10 off deal for a Yelp Check-In during our stay, so when we checked out I asked her about. She looked at me blankly and said, "oh that's not for us" to which I replied "Well it says $10 off your stay at The Dalles Inn"....and showed her the confirmation on my phone. She then proceeded to tell me that isn't something they are doing because they would've had to approved that offer and she knew nothing about it...or something. Honestly, I didn't really understand her logic, but I felt it wasn't worth making a fuss for the discount so I left. That interaction really left a bad taste in my mouth afterwards though. I've worked in a lot of customer service jobs and honoring discounts/coupons with your company's name on them seems like a no-brainer? Or even more so, just being polite to the customer? read more

The Dalles Inn is an older "historic" inn and has the same feel as you walk in the lobby although the staff is very friendly and helpful. We had to park our truck and pull trailer on the street. We needed a pet friendly place to stay because we had our small dog. The elevator and halls to the room were not very inviting. The room was spacious and comfortable with extra big pillows. They only had a 2 queen bed room available so we took it. The continental breakfast had many offerings but we chose to eat out. The coffee was good :) The night before the rate online was cheaper than what we were charged/quoted. There was also a small pet fee. I mentioned it to the morning clerk and showed her the online price and she offered to discount our stay. read more

Would not stay here again. First, we arrived early at about 12:30 and dropped by to see if our room was ready. It was not but the clerk verified my phone number and said she'd give me a call when it was. She never did. After 3, we came back and there were apparently lots of rooms ready as she gave us some choices. We got settled in to the room only to discover the TV did not work. They moved us to another room which seemed very nice until we realized that the walls were paper thin and we were right across from the elevator. Lots of inebriated and very loud people spent a lot of time in the hall visiting and shouting. In the morning we discovered that the in-room coffee maker had only decaf coffee. Hubby went to the breakfast area in search of coffee and orange juice. The coffee was just finishing brewing and he watched the employee pour the pot of coffee into the thermos server and then add a full pot of hot water to it. The resulting "dishwater" was undrinkable. He was also told they did not have orange juice. The view was decent but everything else just seemed as though they were cutting corners and the staff could definitely use some training. read more

We wanted to stay at the eastern end of the gorge so we'd have a full day to drive west. We found The Dalles Inn on Yelp and a great rate on booking.com about two hours before we arrived. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The room was fine, the beds comfortable, and the bathroom and shower clean. The room was not set-up for working - no convenient outlets and the wired Internet outlet in the middle of a wall, nowhere near power. The TV was an old tube-type, and an actual DVD player - I haven't seen one of those in years! We don't use the TV, so no problem, just a little dated. The breakfast was ok - I think I was just burned out on continental breakfasts. We would stay here again. read more
