My daughter started Pied Piper when she was 2 through the summer camp. She was extremely shy and…read morenervous around anyone she didn't know and we were on the fence about putting her into any program. We approached Pied Piper with our concerns about her social development and from the very start we felt completely comfortable. My daughter had a rough start, as I'm sure many kids do. There was a lot of crying, but Kathy and Max communicated so well with us, helping us make a plan for drop off and keeping us informed of how her days were going, what they were doing to help her adjust and celebrating every little win! I was so grateful for the never ending patience and understanding as they let her adjust at her own pace. Before long my daughter was looking forward to "school" (camp) and we quickly signed her up for the 3s program through the school year. She had an amazing year, really finding her place at Pied Piper. We watched, really in awe, as she became so confident and outgoing. She has made so much progress both academically and socially. Pied Piper strikes a perfect balance between play and academics, giving kids a taste of structured work that will prepare them for kindergarten (activity times/music/crafts/worksheets) while still capturing the fun of childhood with plenty of playtime, outdoor time, holiday celebrations and fun. I honestly don't know how they come up with all the things they do, but my daughter is always coming home excited about something! The communication is amazing. Kathy and Max are always available to talk and regular emails keep us always in the loop. We can't imagine sending out kids anywhere else!

If you question anything she does, she cannot or will not discuss with you in a professional manner. She likes to invoke "the contract" but only when she wants to use it to enforce her rules. For reference, I had two girls that went there for 4 years and were part of her competition team. We have paid tens of thousand of dollars to this school. When we questioned something, we were met with hostility and flippant responses that proved we were nothing more than dollar signs. I'm sad to have to write this as my girls liked their instructors (although there seems to be a revolving door other than maybe 1 or 2 of them) and made lots of friends. It was also convenient given the location but they will not get my business after what we have been experiencing. I'm sure that some people will disagree with my review which is their right. We are not the only people that have had this happen. I'm sure we will not be the last. There are many other options in the area to deserve my hard earned money

Deerkill is by far the best day camp in the Rockland County area. The staff (from counselors to instructors) is also fantastic and a group of very experienced professionals. The directors are always developing new programs and bringing in the latest activities for campers of all ages. One of the newest additions to the camp is the climbing wall and zip line. My kids could not get enough of them. My kids are also huge fans of animals and the fact that Deerkill has a pony, and a couple of friendly alpacas is a great plus. Overall, I would recommend Deerkill to anyone that would like to provide their kids with the opportunity to have summers they will never forget making life long friends along the way.
