Last year we had several trees on our property that were having issues. I called several certified Arborist and was so impressed with Nick Saba we hired Davey to cut down 6 trees. Nick gave us several ideas on which trees we could plant and answered all of our questions. Last week the crew came out, planted 2 new trees and they did an amazing professional job. They might cost a little more than some other places but it is worth it. The cheap usually comes out more expensive and we have 2 beautiful trees now. Was told they were good and had an appointment setup for this morning. I get a call (less than one hour before my appt) that an emergency came up - I understand that. The issue is they could not reschedule me for an entire week! I was told he could come look as time allowed without an appointment sooner. Why cant I talk to him when he comes? Just not happy and going to keep searching for someone that values my time and wants my business. read more

After working with Davey for several years, they have done a great disservice to me and my trees. It appears to me that Davey is more concerned with habitual service of trees than significant guidance. Two years ago they trimmed two of my trees at significant expense. Both trees were dead the next summer and had to be removed. Last year they deep root fed one tree, it was dead this spring. It was OBVIOUSLY dying last year but they went ahead with the deep feed anyway. It seems like a money grab. When I requested an arborist visit, he got defensive, put the entire blame on my for agreeing to it (despite expecting their guidance). When I told him he should leave, he called me a "f---ing a--hole." Not really what I expect from customer service. I would recommend ANYONE but Davey whose name should really be "Care of Money" not their old pseudonym "Care of Trees". read more

We live in Wheaton and have had great service from Davey Tree from the initial phone call to the consult to the actual work. The tree trimmer was experienced and they did a nice job cleaning up- always a plus! We asked to have a few additional branches to be trimmed off another tree and they did that as well and billed us accordingly. read more

Management problems in the West Chicago branch Despite numerous attempts to get them to call before coming and giving them the right phone number to call, they either do not call first (just show up unannounced) or call the wrong number. Stunning that a service company cannot deliver service. This is clearly a management problem!!!! If they can't handle the simple things, why would anyone trust them to deliver on service? read more

1 star is too much. They cut a tree in my neighbors yard down, that fell on my house in December. They did take my information and said they would call. Still can't get them on the phone to get my damage taken care of and it is the end of March. read more

This was the second time I used Davey Tree. The first time was excellent and all went great. This last time in July of 2019 they came out and went through what I needed done and gave me the price (was my highest quote but past experience leaned me to them). Called them a few days later to gave ok to proceed on quote. They called to set up day and time about 6 weeks later. The crew was great, working very hard in hot weather and raining off and on. They cleaned up great and took great care of all other landscape in yard. They trimmed back branches from my house and some from my neighbors not 8 to 10 feet but some, and thinned out inside of tree. My only concern was that the one tree I wanted the branches that were growing down were not done. I asked the crew about this but said they can't trim more than 20% of the tree. I guess I did not read quote thoroughly and I miss understood the way it was written on the quote. Davy is a good company but be sure you understand completely what is going to be done or you may have to do it yourself. read more

While it was easy to make an appointment, it was very difficult to have someone actually show up for the appointment. I had called and made an appointment three separate times over this Summer...stayed home from work each time, and only the last time did Brian arrive. Nice guy, but it wasn't until the third time they admitted they lost a bunch of appointments and had a mess on their hands. So, with that out of the way and an estimate to put in a tree as well as spray two other trees for a fungus, I had problems going forward with them as I experience difficulty contacting them for a follow up question. For example, in trying to call their office to speak to Brian yesterday, the secretary indicated he's on the other phone and can't speak to me. I said ok, is there someone else that covers this area that I can speak to regarding the tree? She says no. I say ok, who does he work for, I mean does he have a supervisor? Answer: "Davey". Yeah, I get he works for Davey, but does he have a boss, a manager, or is he the owner of the company? "No, Davey is his boss." This went on for a few minutes as I couldn't help but believe she played the "I'm the secretary and you're not getting past me" thing. So I just stopped, said thanks, and ended the conversation. read more

Worst communication ever. We needed a few trees and stumps removed from our yard. It was easy to set up a consultation, but then it took them over a week to get back to me (after multiple emails and phone calls) as to when the work would be completed! Then, they did not come on the day they said they would. They did a fine job when the work was actually done, but it would have been nice to know what was going on! We need more work done and we definitely won't be using Davey. read more

Don't ever use this service, they talked me into a $180 birch tree feeding because of yellow colored leaves. First they were tolded not service unless i was home, didn't listen, said they did the service. Absolutely no changed in color, called them to complain, and are you ready for this? Their excuse was because of to much rain, and fluctuating temps, the roots are suffering, nothing we could do!!! Really scam company, arborist with a terrible attitude who thinks you are stupid, and gullible. Well i have stopped 2 neighbors from using this service, and will continue to let people know about this company read more

Wow! I just can't say enough about the service, professionalism and attention I received from this company. I've used this company to trim trees and have had great service. But this past week, I had a tree go down in the the big storm and put a call into Brian Ziegler to come and access the damage. He was quick and attentive and was at my house within an hour. He sent his crew out that same day even though they were slammed with calls. The crew foreman, Mike was awesome and so professional. Everyone is always extremely and genuinely friendly. While loosing a large tree in front of my home broke my heart, everyone at Davey Tree couldn't have made it any easier. They really know their stuff!!! read more

Davey Tree have very pushy marketing. Even when I cancelled the service in March 1st week, their technician came and did the treatment. When I called the office, their excuse was that the paperwork was printed before I cancelled.Why would you print a schedule more than 1 month in advance without giving customers time to respond ? Their office said I will not be responsible for payment. But this happened before and they don't give credit. Stay away from Davey. Their service is lousy. Last year my burning bushes were infested even during their visit and they could not notice and they do not accept their fault. read more

Very unhappy with this lawn service. I agreed to have the trees and shrubs on my property treated with fertilizer if they fixed the bare patches on my lawn. The treatment was about $200. After a year the patches are still bare. They took in on themselves to come back the following year and fertilize the trees and shrubs again. WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!!!!!!!! There was NO agreement signed NO contract. They billed my another $200. When I called them, their position was - they sent me the contract. Because you sent it doesn't mean I got it - or agree with it. Be very careful when you deal with them. read more

I had a apple tree that was in dire need of a pruning. I called several companies for estimates. Andy from Davey came out. He seemed very knowledgeable as I had researched on the internet and knew that I needed the tree to be pruned in the dormant stage. I signed the order March 18 and mailed it in as instructed. On March 30 Andy called and said they would be pruning the tree on April 2. No one ever came to do the work and never called. On April 12 I called and was told they would do it soon. After no communication and the tree started to bloom I called on April 22 and canceled the order (over a month waiting). If you want your trees trimmed in a timely fashion or communication from a company, do not call Davey. I had several other companies with cheaper estimates but I went with Davey as they are a large franchise and seemed knowledgeable in the business, I felt they would be large and able to have the manpower to get the job done and correct and Andy assured me the tree would get trimmed before it bloomed as I wanted. So I went with them and got screwed. They never showed. Also when you call there you are on hold for a long time as the receptionist says their computers are slow. More runaround. read more
