    Sabrina at work!

PICTURES ARE worth a thousand words.... And the pics I submit here, for your approval, speak volumes. Heck. The outside character of this li'l red shack shouts "Get ready to eat some meat!" C'mon inside. Join me, and 3 of my whacky friends as we get down and get steak-y. Ian appeared, past the red kitchen partition. With the look of a young rocker or budding rocket scientist. Our Deer Lodge Leader, steak wrangler, master of caremonies. I'm a bit shy, so I....(YEAH, right!) So I inquired of Ian, which cut caught his fancy? He rebounded with a well done response. T-Bone. T-Bones it was! For three of us. That fourth one, no names, Butch, bucked the trend and went for a ribeye. It wasn't long, Ian reemerged from behind red partition, hefting plates of meat and potato magnificence. As a fine tuned Foodie, this charming niche carved into the side of a chunk of Georgia rock fulfilled a tantalizing fantasy for me. A venture into a rarely found world of Med Rare and more. Sizzles on a flat top turned into scent-sational fantasy fare. These huge hunks of meat were T-Bone perfection. The long side, the strip. The smaller side, a much anticipated tenderloin. A cut oh so tender. Fork tender. The explosion of flavors did NOT disappoint! Thoughts of joy ran through my head, 'damn glad I'm not a vegan'. Hey, we tried. As we happily munched on greens & things. Ranch on mine. But bring on THE meat! The draw at this Lodge is clear. Perfectly clear. Meet 'n Greet the meat. An introduction that I believe the beginning of a beautiful, loving relationship. Well done! Cash, or checks only accepted. No cards. Kinda rare nowadays, but I get it. Before we left, we got the answer to an observation we had at the onset. We found out in no uncertain terms, why EVERYONE exiting was swinging or cradling a white doggie bag. HUGE portions. Unbelievable prices. I got the thrilling chance to step into sear central. The Med Rare command center. I got the thrill of meeting the vivacious owner, Sabrina. With a wink and a 1,000 watt smile she welcomed me into her kitchen. Look around. Take all the pics you want!, she said. THAT is confidence in a spotless kitchen and nothing to hide. I felt honored to stand nearby as Sabrina in person, grabbed a spatula. I witnessed a master at work. At her craft. She was 14 the first time she walked through those doors. And now, she transforms a loin of beef into picture perfect choice cuts. Anything that touches flame, cleaved by her knifemanship. (Just made that word up!) A sparkling & bubbly personality to boot. Bravo, Sabrina! I definitely have a thing for The Deer Lodge. I bet you will, too!

Nice place to get a decent steak. Simple tasty food. Prices in menu pics are about $2 more than listed for the steaks. Took a little while to be seated and get food ordered. Otherwise very godç

We were hungry after a hike at High Shoals Falls a few minutes away. This was the closest restaurant around. The reviews were good. Boy, was everyone wrong. I wanted to like this place so bad because the portions were huge and our server/hostess was friendly...but at the end of the day, you eat for the taste and this place was not it! To start off with, the salad (literally just tomatoes and lettuce) was drenched in dressing. It was so saturated, I couldn't eat more than a few bites. You would think I ordered a bowl of dressing with a side of lettuce. My sister and her friend got "coleslaw" as a side, which came out first as a starter, I guess...but it had tomatoes in it. Oooof Gordon Ramsay would be pissed lol. Who puts tomatoes in coleslaw? She let me try a bite. It was bland and just overall disgusting. Nowhere near the taste of normal coleslaw. Her friend kept calling it dog food. They also ordered some chicken livers as an appetizer, and only ate 1 piece. It was too irony and livery to their liking. With barely anything in our stomachs because of the disappointing starters, we were really looking forward to the entrees. As the main courses came to our table, we were excited because the portions were very large and everything looked tasty! Unfortunately that was not the case. I ordered the bone in ribeye and 75% of it was straight up fat. It was also very tough to cut and chewy, even though I got it cooked medium. It had virtually no seasoning, so I had to drench it with A1. Extremely disappointing for a huge steak that took up the entire plate. The only thing that was decent in my order was the fries. My sister and her friend both got the seafood platter, and our other friend got the famous rainbow trout dinner. The seafood platter consisted of frozen butterflied shrimp, stuffed crab, hush puppies, and fried trout. The only thing the trout is famous for is being bland! I don't think this restaurant believes in seasoning. Everyone in our party agreed that all the food was tasteless and had no flavor. However the hush puppies were good, but greasy and one decent thing was the stuffed crab. We were hungry, so we ate what we could stomach. They were also busy, as it was Labor Day weekend. Otherwise, we would have complained and sent some stuff back to the kitchen. When our check came, you have to go pay for it in the front and they only accept cash or check. Good thing I was carrying cash that day (which I never do) or we would be stuck washing dishes in the back lmao. I tried to like this place, I really did. But I would suggest to take the extra 30 minute drive to eat anywhere else but here.

TBONE is serious ! Biggest I have ever seen! Delicious!

This place is the bomb Steak place to go when up in mountains of Georgia. Highly recommend and you must get there early to get in, it's always packed and line waiting!

I have been here countless time throughout my life, and it has always been a decent experience. The atmosphere of this restaurant is very neat and mountainous, and the cabin is definitely a neat place to dine in. The steaks are nothing but ginormous, but it is more a quantity over quality restaurant. I have had their burgers, chicken tenders, sirloin, tbone, and ribeye, and it is all "meh". Just about anything you get here is good, but not an exceptional restaurant by any means. I would recommend you give it a try if you have never been before.

We ordered the hamburger steak to go, and honestly, it was as bland as everything else that is served. No seasoning whatsoever, not even salt or pepper. Way too much dressing on slaw. I'm still leaving 3 stars though because the portions are huge and Deer Lodge is a local tradition that apparently hasn't changed a speck sine 1972.

Used to have fantastic trout, went under new management and they are using food system fish, such a shame not good fish anymore.

My only recommendation would be to put safety grab bars in the shower. The people with the most expendable income for travel are seniors, and keeping the shower safe benefits everyone. To my complete disappointment, "Resort View" means looking over their parking lot or the neighboring apartments and parking (my view). There are no mountain views or lake views from this option. Very misleading!! When confronting the desk clerk, she commented that I had Mountain views from my room. Obviously she had no idea what she was talking about - but it was absolutely NOT a mountain view, and you definitely didn't want to "sit on the balcony to sip a glass of wine" as the resort suggests! There were only cobwebs and dirty chairs! The only good thing about the resort was the Oaks Restaurant, and Adirondack chairs to sit by the lake. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste my money. I won't be back.

It's only about a 2hr drive from where I am but there was a bit of traffic getting out of atlanta on a wed afternoon when we left so we didn't get in till dark. I called to say we might miss the office check in hours (till 6pm) so they kindly left the key in the cabin for us for whenever we arrived which was very helpful. The rooms were clean and kitchen and bathroom had pretty much everything you needed. We also utilized the charcoal grill. Only complaint was the lighting was a tad dark during the night but maybe it's to help you relax. Loved the view of the lake from the cabin, it was beautiful to wake up to. We were also able to bring our dog for a $60 fee. House rule does say no dog on bed so keep that in mind. There was a little doggy station on site and we were able to walk him around the property to potty. He enjoyed his stay and we liked going to the nearby trials in the morning/afternoon for a hike. There's an ingles nearby as well as some other restaurants if you need food options like McDonald's, Dunkin, couple of Pizza chains, and whatever a small town typically has to offer. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

We decided this property would fit the bill because of it's incredible mountain views and reviews on TripAdvisor, bed&breakfast.com, and Travelocity. We were greeted warmly by the owner of the property who kindly showed us our room which was basically in the basement of her home. The room had that incredibly musty, old, moth ball smell like when you visit a bad antique store. Bed and accommodations were dated including mattress, bathroom, coffee maker, and microwave. Pretty much like visiting your stereotypical grandmothers cottage. Breakfast was decent but overall average quality which included grits, frittata, fruit salad, and cheese biscuits. After speaking with the owner before 11 in the morning she refused to give us a refund for the following day because we did not give her "enough time" to cancel. After returning home I checked my credit card statement and was appalled that she charged over $500 for that ONE night. There was no cancellation policy on her website, never returned my VM's, and felt like she simply overcharged us out of some grudge. All in all this felt like a scam and would heed caution for all her "incredible" reviews.
