Nothing personal to any worker or dentist, but they all were a-little shrewd with explaining to me that the x-rays need to be done before the exam, before the cleaning. That's cool, I just want a cleaning. The front desk lady tried to get me to sign a 300 bill after seeing the Dentist And some of the supplies were dirty. It was an hour and a half before I had my cleaning was done. And then my cleaning was done in less than ten minutes by a rough woman who rushed. Do not ignore bad reviews. Do not go to the Dental Group; consider this a fair warning! They deserve a low rating or zero stars. Please read all that I wrote. The morning of June 26, 2019, I was told to pay extra for free X-rays. However, when I asked the receptionist to explain the charges for X-ray, she stated that it is 'too much reading' and 'too many paragraphs'. After calling my insurance company I was informed that I have a right to ask and she should show me the benefits and fees, in writing, and explain to me, when I inquire. She was unprofessional and avoided answering me. I was upset & I paid the extra $$. On a different occasion, a front office personnel misinformed me that I owed $50.00 from a previous visit for a filling. I was calm and denied that I owe more money. After she looked into it further she found her mistake. She did not apologize for telling me it was my error. The front receptionist also stated previously that my insurance plan only paid for one (1) filling per year. After calling my insurance company, I was told my benefits include four (4) fillings per year, for free. In addition, the dental hygienist, Lily, on two (2) occasions requested I pay extra money for additional cleanings and I needed and come in more often. I do not like price gouging, while I am paying for a service. My former dentist, of 30 years, never told me that I needed more than 2 cleanings in one year. I do not trust price gouging practices! This upsets me a great deal. Later in July of 2019, Dr. Plata wrote me a letter: "I am no longer able to continue as your dentist". First of all, as a senior, woman and an Ordained Reverend, I find this office unprofessional 100%. When they cannot get their way, they reject any comments and right us off. Dr Martin is really friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, honest and puts you at total ease. I just had my first appointment and was really impressed with the efficiency and warmth of the whole staff. I feel their rates were fair too, which was something I had been concerned about. Going to the dentist can be really stressful, but this wasnt at all. What a relief! I'm excited to have a new dentist/dental office I like and trust. (Traffic around the area is terrible though, so plan for extra drive time- only downfall!) ETA: It's been a month and I've now had my deep cleaning and three fillings (so 3 appointments in total) and can honestly say I'm just as impressed and happy with the Dental Group and Dr Martin as I was on the first day. All I needed was respect and excellent service from this office location at Oakland Park Blvd as a first-time patient. Everything happened when I asked to speak to the manager that day because the receptionist messed up my schedule appointment. (1st Experience) On my first visit, I waited for almost 3 hours just to get assisted with an x-ray on Thursday (6/15). There was only one African- American receptionist at the front desk, she apologized and told me that the Hispanic receptionist that assisted me at first misplaced my folder. All the patients that were before me, even some of the patients that came after me got taking care. While sitting there and waiting, I observed others are getting assisted; nobody checked on me to see if I'm ok or feel the needs to ask me what I am waiting for all this time. I had to go to them and asked them if they forgot about me. That's when I was assisted, after getting assisted by Dr. Plata; I was offered by the African-American receptionist to complete a cleaning that same day because there was a patient that didn't show up and she has an empty spot available in the system due to the inconvenience. I agreed to the offer. However, the patient ended up coming; as a result, she reschedules me for the following Monday (6/19) at 1:00 pm which I was disappointed again. When going over my payment plan, the African-American receptionist seems bothered when I was asking her question about my treatments because she was more focus on helping the new staff members stay organized with assisting the other patients . She provided with a $50 credit for the inconvenient and gave me a reference paper to schedule an appointment with my oral surgeon to take care of my wisdom teeth. At that point, I wanted to leave the location because I was running late for work. Throughout the whole process, I exercised my patience, even though I was not pleased, I was very cooperative, calm and very understanding.  (2nd Experience) I went to my oral surgeon that Monday morning. When filling paperwork, they asked me for the name of my doctor which I didn't recall. So I called the Dental Group office to get the info. At 10:10 am, while on the phone I took the occasion to confirm the 1:00 pm schedule appointment with a regular receptionist, she told me that my appointment date was on July 3rd when I asked how come? She couldn't explain. I was not happy, so I asked her to speak with the same African- American receptionist that assisted me on Thursday since she was the one who booked me. When talking to the black African-American, she seems bothered; there was a lack of empathy and concerns displayed throughout the conversation.  After all, what makes it funny, her only response was "Did I give you a reminder card?" I had to remind her who I was which she remembered and what information she provided which were only two papers: The treatment payment plan and the referral paper for the oral surgeon.  At this point, I felt that my time was not valued and respected.  I requested to speak to Dr. Plata; she immediately denied access for me to talk to my doctor, so I asked to speak to the manager. She put me on hold for 1 minute or less and came right back and told that the manager was too busy to talk to me!! When expressing my concerns about the whole experience that I was having since day one, I told them there is no sense of care or urgency provided.  Even the $50 credit they provided me could not make up for this madness. The same African- American receptionist with natural hair seemed bothered and said that the manager said that she no longer wants my service. To be honest with you, I have the right to express my concerns and asked questions to find a resolution. I was perturbed, I do not believe the manager will say something like that; especially this message did not come from her directly.  And if that message it from the manager, that was not the way to handle this matter!! After the receptionist statement, she hangs up on my face while I was speaking!! Unbelievable, I just experience the worst service ever!! In other for a business to be successful it's not always about the quantity of people that matters only but it's also about the quality of service that you are providing out there that also plays a big part.!! This place is unprofessional, and it is imperative to know how these employees are serving this community which affects The Dental Group office. We are the one who supports the business, and I have a firm believer in kindness, professionalism, and making people happy. Unfortunately, this is not what I've experienced!! read more

Dr. Martin is awesome, I drive from South Beach up because once you find a great dentist that you trust, its worth the drive.

Excellent dentist practice. I have been their patient since 2005 and I always have had a real nice experience. I visit them regularly for dental cleaning and once for an front tooth implant. Very satisfied with the results. I love Dr. Plata and Dr. Martin, they are really experienced and excellent professional. The personnel is very nice and kind. I highly recommend them. read more

Stay away from this facility!! This place over charged me for dental services and once I found out through my insurance company through my explanation of benefits that they had done so I contacted them for reimbursement. It was well over $100 That they owed to me. I explained to Maria I think is her name in billing that I had an insurance representative on the phone that could explain to her why I should receive a reimbursement. She made me wait like 20min in the lobby. I then told Maria that the representative could not wait on the phone all day and that I spoke to her earlier and told her that I would be coming to show her my explanation of benefits. She was very rude and told me they were short staffed. So finally she speaks with the insurance representative and guess what?!! She begins to argue with them and tell them how they do not owe me money!! Are you serious?! The insurance rep explained to her that they are contracted to provide services to me for a specific price and that They need to reimburse me. She looks at me and says "oh they tell you one thing and me another". She then proceeds in a heated debate with the insurance rep, asks for her supervisor and says she wants the supervisor to talk to Dr. Plata. Dr. Plata said she understood the rep. So then I informed Dr. Plata of how I had a terrible experience with Maria and her attitude and guess what?! Dr. Plata tries to take up for her friend because they were both Spanish. All I wanted was my money and good customer service. I do not recommend this place at all! They rip you off and fight tooth and nail to keep your money. This was not the first time this happened to me here, but it will be the last! Get this then the Doctor writes me saying she can't provide me with services anymore. Lol I already had made it clear that day that that I would not be back and had contacted a new dental place when I walked out of the door. Save yourself the trouble and stay far away! read more

Before even looking in my mouth Dr.Gordon attempted to upsale me from a basic cleaning to a deep cleaning,a service that would not be covered by my insurance.How can you recommend a service before even looking into a patient's mouth? I haven't had a new cavity since I was 10 years old and have never had any other dental issues. When I asked this question and said I would like just a basic cleaning she left the room. RIDICULOUS!!! Was happy with the dentist but big problems with the estimates and quotes. They add $400 in "lab fees" to the $350 co-pay and amount paid by insurance company, for every crown, which is not allowed by insurance (maximum is $150 if you get an upgraded crown). They also added $1600 in "lab fees" for a small 3 tooth bridge of which $-0- is allowed by insurance. They gave a fast talking meaningless explanation when I questioned them and it wasn't until I spent 3 hours on the phone going back and forth between them and the insurance company, and insurance company finally called them, that they finally got rid of those amounts. Also they make you pay UP FRONT for all services to be performed in the future and make you sign a "terms of agreement" which says no refunds or changes to agreed services after 24 hours of signing, even for service estimates (paid up front), even though appointments may be several months away. Once you sign this Terms of Agreement, you can't change your mind even if you find out they grossly over quoted/charged you, over what they should charge, which was my case, when they over quoted/charged me by $2,800. Luckily, I figured it out, with the help of the insurance company, within 24 hours. Beware the girl that gives you the quote for services, she is smart and talks fast, but in hindsight, reminded me of a used car salesperson or F&I (finance and insurance) person. I found their business practices very unethical and am filing a complaint with the insurance company, the Florida Board of Dentistry, and the BBB...and im the type that never files complaints, but if it helps others from getting grossly overbilled, then it's worth the effort. read more

My mother visited Dr. Martin at The Dental Group and paid a lot of money for a dental partial. Not only does the partial NOT fit, but Dr. Martin refuses to fix or replace it! To my understanding, it is his job to make sure that what he created fits! His own staff member stated that it is his responsibility to complete the partial that he was paid to make. My mother works very hard for her money and does not deserve this. She is very embarrassed to smile because her old partial (that she still has to wear) is not holding up well. This dentist sees her regularly and refuses to give her a refund or at least complete the job he was paid to do. It's as if he doesn't even care. Because of Dr. Martins poor service, my mother is out of hundreds of dollars and is stuck with her old partial. She pretty much paid for nothing. She is being taken advantage of and I wont let that continue. I am very upset about this and we will be seeking legal help for her case. Do not waste your hard earned money here! read more

they were on my insurance list so i made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned.when they looked in my mouth they would not give me a regular cleaning,they said i needed a deep cleaning.now i have for years been going to dentists twice a year without any dentist telling me this. they said that insurance would not pay that much ,that the cost would be about 550 dollars,but if i do it today that they would only charge 450. ok i fell for it . then i had to go back two months later for another 65 dollar cleaning.at that time i had them look at a chipped tooth they had me sign the paper for insurance.and made me another appointment for the chipped tooth.they said my portion of the bill would be 51 dollars because of what i had already spent which i paid. i came back and had the filling put in and they made me another appointment to get my teeth cleaned all within six months? i decided to find another dentist and when i called to get my records sent to a new dentist they want to rebill me for past work done.
