Stayed here for a 3 night stay. It was walking distance to a lot of shops and little Italy of course! The gym was a great amenity however they could clean it up a bit more. I was fraudulently charged for pantry items I did not purchase. I was not aware a pantry service even existed, and at check-in I only interacted with a male staff member, never a female, as they later claimed was the one who charged me. When I reported the issue, my concerns were dismissed, and I was told they needed to contact the employee responsible. I have yet to receive any follow-up or resolution. This raises serious concerns about both billing practices and the security of guests' credit card information. Very disappointing and unprofessional experience. UPDATE: I was recently contacted by staff who made up another FALSE statement. They claimed that I arrived with a group and that the group requested I place pantry items in my room. This is entirely untrue. I arrived alone, as my husband and two young children remained in the car. There were no pantry items in my room! These repeated false statements raise serious concerns and warrant a full review of the security footage, as the alleged incident never occurred. Furthermore, when I requested to speak with a manager, I was denied, being told that managers do not work on Sundays, despite weekends being the busiest time for the hotel. This lack of oversight is unacceptable. This experience has been extremely concerning and disappointing. I expect a thorough investigation and prompt resolution of this matter. read more

They have no airport shuttle service to or from the hotel which wouldn't be expected from a "standard" hotel. From a premier hotel, the transportation is supposed to be part of the service. The staff were quite nice, pleasant, and overall proficient. However, i found the restaurant pleasant and it's menu artful though the ambiance could definitely be better. The room, though, was inexcusable. From an antique-style heater/AC unit, to exposed wiring along the walls, a bathroom door with no sliding track along the bottom, peeling wallpaper, strange marks along the walls, and zero housekeeping service or room service; the hotel's ambition is there but they let the typical and conventional "low-quality" Best Western mentality influence their interior redesign which is severely lacking. This is not a premium hotel. This is an average hotel masquerading as premium. The exterior and the staff are the only consistent offerings. read more

Stayed at The Dextro and genuinely enjoyed my experience! From start to finish, everything felt easy and well taken care of. My flight was delayed BIG TIME and I was stuck on the plane, stressed about missing the check-in cutoff. I called the hotel, and they handled everything over the phone with no attitude, no hassle. They checked me in before the cutoff so I could avoid a cancellation or an extra day fee, which I truly appreciated. That level of customer service matters, especially when travel doesn't go as planned. The location is also a huge plus, super close to Little Italy and the Gaslamp District, which made getting around San Diego incredibly convenient. They also had a really nice breakfast every morning, which was a great bonus and made mornings feel relaxed instead of rushed. Overall, this stay felt thoughtful, comfortable, and well-managed. We had a nice stay at the Dextro. The rooms were clean and staff was friendly and helpful. We had called ahead for a crib and on arrival they brought it right up we got in later at night with our baby. We booked through my wife's credit card portal I think and we had breakfast included. Which was nice for a quick bite it is just normal hotel breakfast so definitely wouldn't pay for it if it wasn't included in our rate. I did have to work for half a day from the breakfast area and the two ladies staffing it were awesome bringing drinks and helping everyone out as they came down. Rooms are kinda awkward shaped and sized due to the shape of the hotel. No microwave in the room is whatever but they had none on the premise for use is a big miss for me. My wife enjoyed the pool one day but said it was a bit chilly. The best part about the hotel was the location. We were able to walk to it from the zoo and you're right by little Italy and walked down to the seaport area. Price was right as well. Would stay again if the rate is good because of location more than anything. read more

The dextro sufficed as a place to sleep for the night. Unfortunately, our television wasn't functional and neither was our phone. Maintenance did their best to try and fix it, but they advised that there was a problem with the system and it could not be resolved. The Dextro was a great stay for my fiance and I! Let me first highlight the amazing service by Paul at the front desk, who really cared about our stay and helped us many times. Super friendly, give that man a raise! The room itself was quite nice as well, bed very comfy, nice TV and view from our room as well. Bathroom was a bit outdated and we did have trouble flushing at times, but nothing major on that front. Nice pool as well. Location was perfect and right next to Little Italy, and we felt safe in this area as well. We'd stay again and recommend this to anyone! read more

Paid for "Very Late Checkout" - went to desk after breakfast at 10:30 to confirm it was paid for and noted - told them I was about to go to the room and needed to sleep before travelling. Overall our stay was good, the rooms are renovated and cleaned well. The area around the building has an overwhelming amount of homelessness but you are also in the center of San Diego- think 10 min to beaches, sea world, 6min to the zoo and balboa park, 15 min to La Jolla, etc. However I do think $38 a day for parking is extreme and we ended up paying $50 total on spot hero for 5 days instead. Walking from the lot 0.3 mi away felt very unsafe. It'd be nice to have continental breakfast included rather than $20 a day. Very minimal amenities. We did have a disturbance at 3am last night when people were shrieking and there was a domestic violence incident (not the hotels fault) but they removed them from the hotel after about an hour. read more

Booked here for a work conference, and I'd say my stay was just okay. I appreciated the renovated feel of the rooms but there were a few cons that affected my experience. First off, the setup of the hotel is a bit strange, it is a tall cylindrical building, and the architecture of the building felt old. There is only valet parking (I think something like $30-50/day), but my work paid for it so I was happy to use it. The inside lobby is quite small due to the architecture, and the ceilings and hallways are shorter than usual. While the building felt old, I appreciated that the rooms looked renovated. There was also ongoing construction/renovation on each floor. I was not able to get restful sleep at all during my 2-night stay. There were a handful of things that contributed to this: uncomfortable pillows, street lights streaming in / curtains not blocking it out, running toilet noise through the night, thin walls where I heard my neighbor snoring. Thankfully the hotel had earplugs so it helped a little on my second night. But also on my second night, the keycard reader on my door stopped working so I had to go to the front desk a few times to figure it out. They had to call a maintenance person to replace the battery. Quite an inconvenience at the end of a long day. There were a few pros, which had brought my rating from 2-stars to 3: - we had a breakfast buffet for my work, and it was pretty good food (though we were promised lunch catering but they canceled on us) - we booked the conference room on the top floor which had a great panoramic view of San Diego - the location is a short walk to Little Italy! (beware of construction around) - rooms are renovated, as mentioned earlier, and clean and spacious - front desk people and valet people were super nice read more

The hotel is not even close to what is shown in the pictures. The restaurant is very small, and the property is located across from a gas station near the bridge. The only hotel that I ever heard to offer room service only every 3 days, we stayed 2 nights and no room service and cleaning or changing sheets! And they charge $45 per day for parking, which was never disclosed on the booking site. The neighborhood also does not feel very safe at night. Overall, the hotel was completely misrepresented, and the experience did not match the expectations created by the online photos and description. read more

The cons: Parking is horrible! The spaces are sooooo damn tight!!!! Omg and the layout is difficult to maneuver. My skinny sister had to park since we could barely open the door to get out no joke we all had to get out and let her park. We had an issue with our toilet and did not realize it until later in the evening when maintenance was already gone for the day. I called the front desk and they let me know that they could send him in the morning but there's nothing that could be done and they were fully booked so we couldn't get another room. It was kind of gross because the toilet wasn't flushing so we had to just keep using it without flushing. The maintenance guy was super sweet though and fixed it for us in the morning. The entire hotel is a circular, including the parking garage. Get your Dramamine handy. The moment we checked the sheets, we were terrified. We did get a room change, but as a hotel, renting a room like this is just beyond disgusting. Affordable and cheap if you're just staying a few nights. The staff at The Dextro were friendly and professional so no complaints there. I booked a room under blocked rooms for a wedding party. It was upsetting to arrive and find out the wedding party was spread out from the 3rd floor all the way to the 11th floor! What was the purpose of blocking rooms for a wedding party just for everyone not to be together. The elevators took forever! I was such a hassle to go between floors preparing for the wedding. Once arriving to the room, you can definitely tell they have attempted to update this hotel, but the design is something to be desired. The AC is blocked by a fridge and an armoire. The bathroom doors are frosted so it leaves little to no privacy which is fine depending on who you're sharing a room with. The problem is there is a huge mirror placed across from the bathroom giving full visual of the person in the bathroom if you're laying on the bed. The toilet tissue roll is placed far back on the toilet and when the roll is moved it pops off the holder and flys across the floor. (Happened to several guest on different rooms). The most disappointing/unacceptable part of the stay was how dirty the rooms were. Over the two nights I found several signs that the room was not cleaned good or at all! I found, large clumps of hair under the desk, a sock by the AC and an empty bottle under the bed. There was a brown substance on the wall under the AC, the paint in the tub was peeling and left the tub looking dirty. For the price of the room I would have expected at LEAST for the room to be clean. I would never stay here again. read more

It's an older hotel, none of the bells and whistles like most Marriotts. The staff are great tho... really friendly. They have water and tea near the check in desk. It's a weird set up as it's only a busy one way st. My Uber was pretty pissed off and confused trying to get me back here and ended up just dropping me off on a random side street which I realized had some stairs and connected to the end of the parking lot. I am Not sure if that is normal traffic on that street or due to ComiCon. The gym and pool is outside across from the lobby entrance and you need a key card for everything: pool entrance, gym entrance, room, and elevator. My friends said this is due to all the homeless downtown. It was a little frustrating but i guess on the plus side it's keeping you safe. This Location has a microwave downstairs and a nice lobby/seating area with a bar and restaurant. A few booths in the back and some table and chairs in the front. This was perfect to do work. What I am noticing about Sheratons is that have old outdated A/C units which are incredibly loud. I literally unplugged mine because I couldn't deal w the noise and it kicking on and off all night. The hotel is a little older and not my preference but the location is PERFECT if you want to be near Little Italy. Literally just two blocks away and you can set on foot to food and dessert adventures. The staff here were amazing so despite my frustration with some things everyone was helpful, nice, friendly, they smiled, and they all said hello whenever you came in. If the hotel amenities or upgrades do not matter, totally book this because the promxity to many restaurants and downtown area is clutch. read more

Stayed here for 5 days. I will never understand why hotels charge their customers for parking. The parking itself was almost $200 on top of the nightly rate. In addition the parking spots on the lower level were so small and tight. The larger spots were limited. Our room was fine. I think they are trying to be a more modern hotel but still gives older vibes. I asked for the sheets to be replaced twice and they just made the beds. I know this because there was a stain on one of the sheets that was still there after I asked for the room to be serviced. Their elevator was agonizing and one of them was out for 2 days out of our stay. The pool was very small and not heated so almost unusable. I would stay here again only due to the location. It was very close to seaworld, the zoo, and the ocean was a walkable distance. The restaurants in little Italy were very accessible as well and all within walking distance. read more

The hotel was honestly lovely as a whole, but I really need to shout out Julie Sigua the head housekeeper because she absolutely went above and beyond for me in so many ways both during and especially after my stay!!! I accidentally left a fair number of items inside the closet by accident as I was checking out and she spent so much time with me after my stay, even when I was in a different city, to help me figure out how to get all my stuff back and you can really tell that she really cares about what she does and works so hard and I don't think I could've appreciated it more!!! She ended up finding all of my things even when some stuff was a bit more difficult to get access to, and I am just so grateful for her and she completely transformed my entire experience with this!!! I booked this hotel in Feb 26 with bay view. The view was very disappointing because it only contained a small, distant view of bay and the rest of it was a gas station. Bed mattresses were great but heating was not working, so called the front desk but no one answered until 6 am. We couldn't sleep for 2-3 hours with loud noise and cool air. The parking was another problem. People had difficulty finding parking and the parking space was very narrow. We will not go back to this hotel. read more

Check-in was a delight, the hostess was super sweet and we chatted for a few and she assisted me with the underground parking. I was excited to stay here for the rooftop bar/$10 breakfast buffet but found out that they dont have either anymore since becoming The Dextro... Breakfast buffet is in the lobby at $20 now... but without the view, we opted to do breakfast elsewhere. The killer for me was that they have zero microwaves. Not in the room, not in the lobby, not even at the bar, do they have a single microwave available for guests to use. Even Motel 6 has a microwave in most rooms, thus the 4 stars! read more

I am not a picky or person that makes bad reviews - never told us there was a pool, came in close to 12:30am along with several guest to find no parking, old mattresses - old kitchen items taking up stall space - had over a dozen people behind us all searching for parking up to 2 blocks away, never have I been to a hotel that doesnt offer a blow dryer, 2 days later I had to ask them for toilet paper to arrive 3 hours later, no microwave at all in the entire hotel, ice machine on the 2nd & 14th floor only - bathroom sink was in the room, no closet, this hotel was a total disapointment all the way around. oh lets not forget we got a view of the chevron gas station - I will never go back here ever. read more

This is the best and most comfortable value in the Downtown/Little Italy area. I've stayed multiple times since they completed the remodel of the lobby/dining and bar area. What was already in my opinion a 5 star stay is now even better! The rooms are super comfortable, the location is great, and the staff is always very friendly, courteous and professional. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the conduct of one of your staff members, Antonio, during my recent visit. During my interaction, Antonio lied to me about a manager being on duty. He stated that managers do not work on weekends, which I later learned was not true--there was in fact a manager present, and another scheduled to come in that day. It is clear that he made this false statement in an attempt to cover up for another staff member, Litzzy. Litzzy don't die not seem like she's wants to work. In addition, Antonio told me he would follow up with me privately by email, but he never did. This lack of accountability only made the situation worse. The dishonesty and dismissive treatment I experienced left me feeling extremely uncomfortable, to the point that I was unable to sleep after the visit. As a customer, I expect honesty and professionalism, not misinformation and evasiveness. I respectfully request that this matter be addressed promptly. Please confirm what actions will be taken regarding Antonio's conduct and how you will ensure this type of behavior does not occur again. I was in town for my nephew's graduation from may 7th through the 10th. I booked my reservation with Expedia. The reservation says self parking available it says nothing about a cost being associated with it unless you look farther into the reservation. So that part is my bad for not reading the fine print. However where it all went wrong was when I checked in they took 105 dollars for what they called incidentals. Incidentals are if you use the restaurant or damage or steel something from the hotel. Not once was I told that the parking had a cost. I called the hotel and spoke to a gentleman at the front desk that at first seemed very nice. He placed me on hold and told me he was going to look up the Expedia reservation to make sure it wasn't included. When he came back he told me that the charge was legitimate and that I would have to take it up with management if I wanted a refund. In that same sentence he stated I would get the same answer from management that he had already given. He reiterated that I could dispute it with either management or Expedia. I told him it was not Expedia that took the 105 dollars it was them. I also asked what is the point in disputing it with management if I would get the same answer. He then told me that he had not said that. I repeated back to him what he just had said and he said he did not say such things. I would have gladly paid for the parking if I was aware of it in advance or at the very least been explained when I checked in so I had the option to make other arrangements. This did not happen hotel are required to disclose all fees this did not happen I would not recommend a hotel that is dishonest. read more

I'm going to give Paul five stars for his customer service. He was great. However, I was not a fan of Raul and he was really lazy. In fact, my DoorDash arrived and they confirmed that they gave Raul my room number. Aside from that, my room number for delivery was in the notes and in the address and all over my order. Keeping that in mind, it's the first time that ANY hotel front desk (and I'm a frequent traveler) did not call me to let me know that the order was there. In fact, I usually get a call immediately. Raul did not call me at all. Zero, zilch, and it was delivered right to him. I have a photo of the DoorDash guy delivering it and Raul doing nothing. When I arrived at the front desk, much later, when I realized my food was delivered there he had ZERO customers in front of him or via phone and he was still doing nothing. Things like that are just a red flag of potential employee theft to me. At best it's Lazy and lack of Customer Service. If you're gonna have a policy as they do to not let the DoorDash driver come to your room, you need to call the guest and let them know their food is there. Raul, it's not yours to keep. read more
