For our week-long getaway in San Diego, we chose this beach-front hotel... Although possibly a long standing tradition on Pacific Beach, this boutique hotel appeared to be in pristine condition...especially inside the hotel. Our room was beautifully renovated...and almost looked brand new! The size of our room was impressively large...not to mention generously appointed. Not only routine things like mini-fridge, microwave and hair dryer, but things you wouldn't even expect...like packets of coffee condiments, cotton balls...even turn-down service with chocolate truffles in the evenings! Unlike the tighter hotels of late, they still offer daily housekeeping. Definitely deserves the title of a boutique hotel. As much as we loved the plush beds and the wide-screen TV, the big winner was their terrace views (as implied in their name!). From our second-floor patio-terrace, we were able to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the walkway, the pool and the Pacific Ocean! Picture-perfect sunset viewing as well. Just check out a few of my pics...and these sunsets were on cloudy days! Although Coronado and La Jolla are my fave beaches in San Diego, there's definitely something to be said for the wilder Pacific Beach. It draws a younger crowd for a reason...as this seems to be almost a cult destination for surfers. From our patio-terrace, we had the best view of the surfers throughout the day (and night)! Given how the weather was too cool for half the time we were there, the stunning terrace view was truly a lifesaver. Big thanks to Mason for helping us upgrade our room to beach-front view just days before our arrival date...and also, for the generous wine bottle in our room! The hotel staff members were all very hospitable as well. From front desk and concierge agents, to bar attendant, all the hotel staff members were all thoroughly professional...not only friendly and gracious, but helpful. Definitely top tier in terms of service! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little piece of paradise...and if we return to the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, we'll probably try to repeat the experience!

This is our families go to spot in San Diego/Pacific Beach. Top notch service, Oceanside with a pool Oceanside. Have plenty of beach toys, chairs, umbrellas and bikes for use (free). Well situated close proximity to shops, restaurants, coffee and much more.

    Ahh, the view

My husband surprised the family with a weekend stay at Pacific Terrace Hotel. The staff in the restaurant and by the pool were amazing and friendly. The location is perfect. The pool and resturant area has a great view of the ocean. The beach is right outside of the hotel's gate. The room was huge and nicely decorated. I felt so relaxed, I didn't want to leave!

Sunset ocean view from the pool is amazing.

Hotel staff is amazing. The location is right on the beach on a small cliff. Really relaxing. Rooms have the best views with easy pool and beach access. They always have free fresh cookies, flavored water and fresh fruit available. Pool bar/food wait staff is always available. The overall service will bring us back here.

WOW WOW! More than 5 stars! My favorite San Diego Mission Beach hotel! My family and I truly LOVE this hotel! They have such amazing and wonderful staff! We had the best time here during our stay and the best hotel we've ever stayed in Mission Beach San Diego. Justin is so hospitable and kind. He gave us a good decent deal so we can get an upgrade with a view. Alex on the other hand was so attentive and went above and beyond. We had some sink issues in our bathroom and it leaked water but Alex, Bob the engineer and other staff helped out. I let them know with the sink issues and BAM within 5 minutes or less they took care of it. Alex brought out towels and checked on us a few times if we were okay. He helped us out a lot and let us borrow some beach chairs and even offered kids' beach toys. Alex is so kind and so caring, he made sure we had the best time. Thank you, Alex for being so sweet to us. You made a big difference with our stay. We have a baby with us and their accommodations, complimentary and amenities helped out a lot such as crib, beach towels, kids' beach toys, beach chairs and beach umbrellas were a HUGE PLUS! It's also such a huge plus that they have a private EV charging station in their garage. It's not free, it has a fee of $40 a day and it helps out a lot to make sure our car is safe and secure. However they waived the fee for us due to bathroom sink issues, they didn't have to do that since the sink didn't bother us much. But we are grateful it got waived & they made sure we were happy with our stay as well. It's wonderful that they have easy beach access, warm pool, hot tub, shower rinse, live music entertainment, bar, free complimentary drinks by the pool as well as breakfast/lunch. It's great!! Thank you Justin and staff for taking care of us and giving us such a great and wonderful experience. If we could get another Alex and Justin in this world, it would be a better place! Thank you so much! Highly recommend and planning to go back already! If I could give these guys more than 5 stars I would! :)

10/10 experience and hotel. The customer service was amazing. The room was so spacious and clean and has the best view (partial room view). It's at the perfect location, right on the beach and near a lot of places. I love that they offer free bike rentals, free beach chairs, free towels all to rent. They also offer massages if you book ahead; they don't have a spa but someone comes to the hotel. My experience was really good. It's worth every penny!

    Balcony overlooking the ocean!
    Adri H.

The rooms were comfortable, towels were soft, halls were quiet, and the sliding glass doors were amazing for blocking the noise when you've had enough of the ocean. The tub was perfect for romance or just relaxation! The hotel is right in the boardwalk and surrounded by places to shop and eat. Having a sofa in the room, remote reasonable parking cost, and reclining chairs on the balcony would have made this ideal. If I could have given this a 4.5 I would have.

Ask the Community - Pacific Terrace Hotel

    Does rooms have full kitchen?

Ours had a sink, microwave, and a mini fridge in the living/entry area.

Does the pool area have access to the beach? Can you walk from hotel to beach?

Yes, a gate from the pool area gives you access to a public sidewalk above the beach. A very short walk down the sidewalk gives you access to the beach.

    Good for bachelorette party?

Yes gorgeous hotel and perfect location. This is a smaller boutique hotel vs a Marriott or larger brand .

I am so happy I found this place via AARP! Located in the heart of the Gaslamp District, I had never heard of this hotel prior to searching. Upon checking in, the desk clerk was very friendly, efficient, and answered any questions that I had. As for the room, he put us up on the top (4th) floor. Room is the perfect size for two people. Very clean, warm, inviting, and has some really cute and convenient amenities such as a pineapple themed USB quad port at the desk, along with a Keurig machine (had I known that I'd have brought my own Starbucks K-cups)! The bed was nice and comfy with lots of soft but supportive pillows and two separate comforter blankets so you're not fighting for covers if you are sharing the bed with someone or your significant other. Bathroom is very modern and clean. A hairdryer is hanging in the bathroom as well. The only item missing was an iron and an ironing board; however, you can request that at the front desk. If you are looking for a hotel with a gym, laundry facilities on site, and a full breakfast buffet or continental breakfast, then this place is not for you; however, if those things don't matter to you {I typically look for those types of hotels during a longer stay) then this hotel is all you need. You also get other unexpected creature comforts such as Starbucks coffee in the lounge along with 4 different blends of water as well as these cute pineapple cookies in the afternoon. Based in Seattle, WA, I am so happy I found this chain as I will be on the lookout and consider staying in other cities. Parking is available in a garage connected to the hotel next door for a fee. Also, bikes are available in the lobby for getting around (not sure if gratis or for a fee). I definitely recommend staying here! One small recommendation for the hotel: provide rooms with a small microwave and mini fridge to reheat leftovers. It all worked out as I gave a homeless guy mine.

The staff is always welcoming, the house keeping staff are friendly and trustworthy, the parking lot is gated and secured by a guard throughout the day, the rooms are always clean the grounds are well maintained, and after all the years of being loyal visitors, we have yet to experience anything negative at this property. I love that the grounds are secure and you can allow your children to go into the courtyard area and play the provided games with peace of mind- knowing that they'll be safe. They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. You can leave your beach toys & chairs outside your room without worrying about someone coming to steal it. We have locked our bikes up downstairs in the courtyard area & nobody messes with them. This is such a great place to stay & an amazing tradition that our family has. We look forward to our visit every May!

Three stars on Yelp--that's about right. We treated ourselves to one night at The Del as a special…read moretreat, and we can honestly say that it wasn't worth it because the vast majority of what you experience at the hotel is also widely available to the public--so you better love crowds. We booked the most inexpensive room (at almost $800/night), which means that we were relegated to the euphemistically-named "The Views," which is the back building with ZERO "views," and is essentially like one step up from a glorified Holiday Inn. The room is beyond basic, the bathroom is tiny, and they don't even give you little extras to make it feel somewhat special. Maybe if we had gone for the almost $2,000 a night room we would have felt like we arrived, but not in the slums of "The Views." Even as a guest, you get no discounted rate for the activities the hotel offers, like the tour and the movie night on the beach. Of the 90- minute tour, only 20-30 minutes were in the actual hotel itself. Our guide was very sweet and knowledgable, but it was way too long, and they probably only have it that long to justify the cost. The movie night on the beach was another overpriced scam, where you are on chairs surrounded by fire pits (we chose not to upgrade to the $400 "s'mores option"), so you leave smelling like burnt ends. At least our daughter had a good time. Basically, the only "exclusive" thing we did was take our daughter to the pool, which did not even have a lifeguard!!! Which is outrageous. We had the pleasure of ordering a $23 cocktail and $14 beer there though. So, all in all, stay in a "regular" hotel and then just come and enjoy The Del like the rest of the swarming packs of people that are equally welcome to descend on the property. Do not eat here! The food is overpriced and terrible (see our previous review for Serea). Listen, they did a great job with the restoration, and this place is an institution, but you don't need to shell out thousands of dollars to "enjoy" it.
