This hotel was super conveniently located right on the boardwalk in Pacific Beach, it was perfect for me. I paid an arm and a leg for the room but it was absolutely massive and I had sliding glass doors directly onto my own private patio which was right next to the pool overlooking the ocean, it was really incredible despite how outdated the room felt, somehow the size of the room made it more modern and it felt clean. The people at the front desk were young, fun, outgoing, really friendly and I appreciated that. They told me about some happy hour they were having later in the day and I felt very welcome here unlike other hotels I stayed at in the San Diego area. The bathroom was huge in my room, very weird vibe, like felt cabin-like, I don't know how else to explain it, but it was spacious, big countertop by the sink plenty of room to get ready. The coffee bar had an enormous countertop which was great for keeping all of my things, huge mirrors everywhere too. The bed was really comfortable, again great view outside, awesome staff. It was so nice to be able to walk the boardwalk and pop back in here whenever I needed to grab something or use the restroom. Walking distance to everything. Highly recommend, I would definitely stay here again. But I probably won't because the cost is INSANE. Sorry but it is. Also housekeeping found my jewelry box loaded with jewelry and returned it to the front desk who subsequently shipped it back to my house for me. I've always wanted to stay here after seeing this hotel right on the beachfront on many travels to SD We finally had the opportunity to stay and had requested a specific room and balcony but unfortunately last minute they did not confirm this and we were given a ground floor room right next to the pool Also the decor inside looked very outdated and 80s themed tropical- definitely needed a refresh update That being said the room was large and nice view of the pool This hotel feels overpriced too The pool seems quite private , lots of loungers - best part is easy access to Pacific beach and all the restaurants read more

Not worth the price...We stayed here for 3 nights. I booked a "partial ocean view room" which was on the first floor. What they don't tell you is that these rooms are right off the restaurant, so you have zero privacy. The room opens to a small seating area, and there are people eating next to that (or sitting on the edge of your seating area). You can't leave your screen door open to even see the partial ocean view unless you also want to see people eating and have them looking at you. There is music playing for the restaurant 9 am to 9 pm so it's hard to hear the ocean. On Friday night, there is a fire show, so you can't even go out to the pool/ocean from the back of your room. We got beach umbrellas and chairs. All 4 of the umbrellas (over 2 days) were broken, necessitating several trips back up to get another one. I don't think they even check the equipment at night. The jets on the hot tub did not work. We could hear a dripping noise all night from the bathroom The rooms are dated We paid over $800 a night to stay here. There are many other hotels on this street that I would look at which also give you direct access to the beach. The only rooms I can see that would be nice are the full ocean view on the second and third floors that directly face the ocean. The side rooms look over the public bathroom or a street and would be loud. Parking was also $45 a night which is expensive. I was contacted by the hotel when I sent in a survey with my concerns - they left a message. I have sent multiple emails and left several phone messages for weeks with no response. read more

For our week-long getaway in San Diego, we chose this beach-front hotel... Although possibly a long standing tradition on Pacific Beach, this boutique hotel appeared to be in pristine condition...especially inside the hotel. Our room was beautifully renovated...and almost looked brand new! The size of our room was impressively large...not to mention generously appointed. Not only routine things like mini-fridge, microwave and hair dryer, but things you wouldn't even expect...like packets of coffee condiments, cotton balls...even turn-down service with chocolate truffles in the evenings! Unlike the tighter hotels of late, they still offer daily housekeeping. Definitely deserves the title of a boutique hotel. As much as we loved the plush beds and the wide-screen TV, the big winner was their terrace views (as implied in their name!). From our second-floor patio-terrace, we were able to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the walkway, the pool and the Pacific Ocean! Picture-perfect sunset viewing as well. Just check out a few of my pics...and these sunsets were on cloudy days! Although Coronado and La Jolla are my fave beaches in San Diego, there's definitely something to be said for the wilder Pacific Beach. It draws a younger crowd for a reason...as this seems to be almost a cult destination for surfers. From our patio-terrace, we had the best view of the surfers throughout the day (and night)! Given how the weather was too cool for half the time we were there, the stunning terrace view was truly a lifesaver. Big thanks to Mason for helping us upgrade our room to beach-front view just days before our arrival date...and also, for the generous wine bottle in our room! The hotel staff members were all very hospitable as well. From front desk and concierge agents, to bar attendant, all the hotel staff members were all thoroughly professional...not only friendly and gracious, but helpful. Definitely top tier in terms of service! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little piece of paradise...and if we return to the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, we'll probably try to repeat the experience! read more

Stayed here for a few days from out of town just to relax by the beach. The staff were all very helpful. They have beach equipment you can rent like chairs, umbrellas, and different balls. The staircase is outside the hotel and you can walk right down to the beach. Lots of restaurants walking distance as well. It's also a 10 minute drive to sea world. The rooms were spacious and clean. The only issue I did have is you have to pay for parking by the night, even if you're staying there. read more

This was our first visit to San Diego. Stayed at the Pacific Terrace hotel. I've stayed all over the world. This is one of my favorites! Older hotel, but VERY well kept! Breakfast was FANTASTIC!! What REALLY makes this place shine though is the STAFF! EVERYONE is SOOOOO nice and accommodating! What really put it over the edge was on our last night there. The power went out in that area. Place was completely dark. The staff had glow sticks and lanterns everywhere. In the hallway, in the stairs... Everywhere! They even put flashlights and lanterns in front of every single room with an apology letter for guests. The power outage was completely out of their control! Again, I have stayed all over the world, and these employees are by far.... The best I have ever encountered! Front desk, maintenance, Belman, housekeeping.... WOW WOW! More than 5 stars! My favorite San Diego Mission Beach hotel! My family and I truly LOVE this hotel! They have such amazing and wonderful staff! We had the best time here during our stay and the best hotel we've ever stayed in Mission Beach San Diego. Justin is so hospitable and kind. He gave us a good decent deal so we can get an upgrade with a view. Alex on the other hand was so attentive and went above and beyond. We had some sink issues in our bathroom and it leaked water but Alex, Bob the engineer and other staff helped out. I let them know with the sink issues and BAM within 5 minutes or less they took care of it. Alex brought out towels and checked on us a few times if we were okay. He helped us out a lot and let us borrow some beach chairs and even offered kids' beach toys. Alex is so kind and so caring, he made sure we had the best time. Thank you, Alex for being so sweet to us. You made a big difference with our stay. We have a baby with us and their accommodations, complimentary and amenities helped out a lot such as crib, beach towels, kids' beach toys, beach chairs and beach umbrellas were a HUGE PLUS! It's also such a huge plus that they have a private EV charging station in their garage. It's not free, it has a fee of $40 a day and it helps out a lot to make sure our car is safe and secure. However they waived the fee for us due to bathroom sink issues, they didn't have to do that since the sink didn't bother us much. But we are grateful it got waived & they made sure we were happy with our stay as well. It's wonderful that they have easy beach access, warm pool, hot tub, shower rinse, live music entertainment, bar, free complimentary drinks by the pool as well as breakfast/lunch. It's great!! Thank you Justin and staff for taking care of us and giving us such a great and wonderful experience. If we could get another Alex and Justin in this world, it would be a better place! The rooms were comfortable, towels were soft, halls were quiet, and the sliding glass doors were amazing for blocking the noise when you've had enough of the ocean. The tub was perfect for romance or just relaxation! The hotel is right in the boardwalk and surrounded by places to shop and eat. My family visited San Diego for the first time this past October, and our stay at the Pacific Terrace Hotel truly made our trip unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful staff who went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. The location is simply unbeatable--being within walking distance of the beach allowed us to enjoy morning and evening strolls along the shore. And waking up to ocean views and falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing was pure bliss. (We captured some enviable sunset photos from our balcony!) Plus, it was incredibly easy to get downtown when we wanted to explore the city. The concierge recommended several restaurants that became highlights of our trip--but we also loved the in-house restaurant. The food was excellent and the beach vibe was perfect! The hotel has so many thoughtful amenities, but particular standouts were the afternoon cookies and evening turndown chocolates--these were a delightful way to end the day! I can't recommend the Pacific Terrace Hotel highly enough, and I'm looking very forward to our return trip! read more

Got some rose petals and champagne. They upgraded us to an ocean view room. The view is amazing. It was heavenly sitting on the balcony, listening to the waves, watching people stroll and bike on the boardwalk. The rooms are very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The staff is wonderful. They were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed chatting with them every day. We were out the first evening so they left the fresh baked cookies in our room. They have them in the lobby every day at 4 pm. The resort fee includes 2 hour bike rentals. Take advantage of that. Also includes nice beach chairs, beach toys, volleyball, wiffle ball stuff, boogie boards. The pool is small but was heated and felt nice since it was only in the 60s. Good service at the pool. There is no restaurant but there is a small cafe for breakfast. The food was overall good. Coffee was delicious. Great service once again. I would book this place again on our next trip to San Diego. read more

We loved it. The front desk crew were more than helpful throughout our stay. Our room was spotlessly clean and ready for us. (OK, the heavy wood decor is not my style.) The pool was warm and clean with great ocean views. The pool towels and chairs were always available. During the week there is no need to pay for the hotel parking. We came and went many times and never parked more than one block away on the street for free. The ocean is right outside the doors. Incredible location! A few minor changes that I would make: The room was almost cold. Relax on the AC, guys. I don't like a "20% service charge" at the cafe. Staff was friendly, loved being so close to the beach and restaurants, pool was adequate, although not nearly enough pool chairs for everyone. Get there early to reserve your chair if you want it! My biggest complaint is that we splurged for my sister's 40th birthday and paid for a full oceanview room. What we got was a partial oceanview with a full view of the public restroom, which smelled and was a gathering place for homeless people. It was literally 30 feet from our balcony. Whenever we sat out on our balcony, it was not what we expected. When I asked the front desk about it, they reiterated that it was considered a full oceanview room. If you book and want an oceanview room, ask to NOT be in room 205. Honestly, the level one and level three rooms above and below us and surrounding probably have the same issue. I can't say enough good things about the Pacific Terrace Hotel. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. Mariana, Ashlynn, Lauren, Seamus, Mason, Kyle, Caleb, Matt, Talon... there were too many staff to mention everyone, but they were all great. Mariana was especially helped us with our booking and then helped us once we checked in. Then there was the hotel itself which is located right by the ocean near walking paths, restaurants and shops. We had a junior suite facing the ocean. It was perfect. Our room was beautiful, so spacious, so clean with a balcony to sit out on and enjoy the view of the ocean. I just finished a week long stay at Pacific Terrace. This is our 3rd or 4th stay at this property. My great service experience compelled me to write a review. When I checked in, I requested not to stay over the pool. The front desk attendant gave us a room and stated it's not over the pool...well he clearly didn't know the property well enough. I went back to the front desk and gave Drew a hard time that he doesn't know the property well enough. He went to work trying to find our reserved room type that did not overlook the pool. After 5 minutes of working the reservation terminal, his supervisor, Marianna walked in. Quickly Drew asked for her help. Because we were staying a week, she couldn't find a way to solve this challenge. Marianna asked if I would be willing to move rooms a few times and the first night they would upgrade us to their best room on the property. I told her this solution was perfectly fine. She changed our booking to make the room change's work and apologized for having to move a few times. Although I was happy with the solution, she comp'd us a bottle of sparkling wine for our inconvenience. The customer service demonstrated by Marianna is how I train my employees. As a business owner, she exemplified how important great training is and the importance of ensuring your clients are 100% satisfied. I tip my hat to Pacific Terrace's training program and culture. This experience solidifies my accommodation choice every time I plan a trip to San Diego....after all that, why only 4 stars? This beautiful property is feeling a little bit tired with finishes and furnishings. I saw visqueen barriers up so I'm sure they are actively working on upgrades as budget allows. When I showed up at breakfast area ~ 30 min before they close, it seemed like the people working there kind of rolled their eyes and didn't want more customers. There were a lot of large flies there. The Pacific Terrace is a wonderful hotel. (It's definitely not inexpensive ... but very enjoyable). Our suite (The Grand) overlooked the beach/ocean. The sunsets were spectacular. Breakfast was really good. And, the staff was fantastic. Most especially housekeeping ... who create amazing animals by using bath towels. Also, two brief negatives: 1 --- The common areas of the hotel were a bit worn ... and seemingly, not cleaned on a daily basis. 2--- The elevator was very slow. read more

This is far from a five star hotel or even a four star. I would say it's a three star very basic great location by the beach, but the rooms are very subpar and old. Absolutely perfect for our girls trip weekend in San Diego! When my friends and I were planning our trip, our top preference was to find a hotel that was right on the water so that we could hear the waves from our room. This place did that and then much more. First off, the location is amazing. Not only is it right on the beach, but it's a short drive from the airport and surrounded by so many amazing restaurants and stores that are all within walking distance. The only time we ever used Lyft during the trip was to get to and from the airport! The three of us stayed in one of the Junior Suites on the first level, which was ideal since it had a nice outdoor patio with lounge chairs that led out into the pool area. The room and bathroom were both larger than what we expected, and it was nice to have a little kitchenette area to eat and drink in. Whenever we needed something, the staff at the front desk was always quick to respond and everyone that we met there were very friendly and cordial towards all the guests. Even when I called to ask for a bandaid, they literally showed up at our door within a minute or so. Take advantage of some of the other amenities that they offer, such as the food/cocktails by the pool (and s'mores!), fitness center, and spa room (our massages were to die for). They also have complimentary checkout at 12pm instead of 11am, and give you access to the amenities including the pool area even after you check out, in case you have a late afternoon flight. i'm torn between 3.5 and 4 but would stay again. my partial ocean view room was on the ground floor next to the cafe (112). zero privacy with the dining tables just a few feet away but had my own patio chairs and a chaise lounge, close to the pool, and an awesome view of sunsets. big plus is how friendly and hospital every single person was. minus is the breakfast - cold potatoes and sausage, burnt toast but good/hot eggs. they also get most of their food delivered from the duck dive down the street - you're better off dining there vs getting luke warm and soggy food. the location is the best - great walkway, ocean view and many bars/restaurants within 3-4 blocks, this is why i chose this place and would come back again. i booked a deal and my room was under $300 for sun-wed. others i spoke with paid over $500 for their partial ocean view on the second floor. i'll return if i find the same reasonable price. read more

HotelTonight describes Pacific Terrace as "upscale, but casual." I couldn't wait to check in and sleep. We arrived at around 2pm -- about half an hour after we booked it. The less-than-friendly front desk staff let us know that our room would be ready by 4pm... "we'll call you as soon as it's ready," the young gentleman said. Alright cool. "Well let's go eat while we wait," I said to my boyfriend. We go to Pacific Beach Fish Shop-- WHICH, OMG, IS EFFING AMAZING BUT THATS A WHOLE OTHER STORY and we eat to kill time. We got done close 4pm and still no call from Pacific Terrace. "Well let's just go back and maybe they'll be done by the time we get there!" So we get back and the freaking keys and room are ready. But WHY DIDNT YOU CALL US THO GUYS? YOU SAID YOU WOULD! It's alright. Lemme just get them keys and get in that room so I can take a nap cuz I AM TIRED YALL. The decor is outdated AF. This is clearly an old building and it's been through a lot. It may even be ready for social security. But whatevs. The location is great. The ocean is your backyard. Very California chic. But wait. There's more. Later that night.. while we were eating the food we got delivered from Postmates, I heard what sounded like a dog peeing on tiles... water collecting somewhere ...someone watering plants. My point is-- It wasn't just like a small leak, you guys. It sounded like running water. I felt like I was back in Guam (a small island in the pacific, also a US territory, where America's day begins) listening to rain from a typhoon leak from the roof into the garage. It was none of the above -- I thought, maybe I left the sink on but on my way to the bathroom I realized the water was coming from the ceiling by the bathroom. FROM THE CEILING! What?! The ocean made its way to my room. The Pacific Ocean was in room 115. So I called the front desk (shouts to Alyssa, Front Desk) and asked for help. 30 minutes later, "engineering" came to our room to get to the bottom of this. -- enter -- THE WATERLEAK SCANDAL OF 2019 He went ahead and tore the ceiling apart so he could figure out what in tarnation was going on (as you can see in the attached pics). While my boyfriend and I watched 48 hrs in bed. What the actual fu*k? Sir, are we supposed to be in here while you do this? Alyssa, Front Desk, can you call us back and make this less awkward. ALEXA, WTF KIND OF HOTEL AM I IN?! Are we family now doing work around the house or something? Should I pass you another towel? What! So the brown water collects into various buckets and towels on the floor but engineering assures us "it's not from a toilet or anything." Alright cool. And so the water appears to have stopped coming down from the pacific terrace heavens and engineering says ... "Well I'm just gonna leave these buckets here." No! I'm not kidding. Stop laughing. He literally said that. Verbatim y'all. VERBAYTIM! Ok so let's start an ending to my story cuz this is getting long but I am still SHOOK about how the staff at the infamous "4 diamond" Pacific Terrace Hotel handled this unfortunate sitch. After engineering left room 115 that night, my boyfriend and I surveyed the state the room was left in. Buckets of brown not-toilet-water, ceiling panels strewn throughout, and dirty brown water towels left as decorative rugs in the entryway. I was beyond grossed out and I could not sleep in this 4-diamond mess in a pool of potty water. We calmly packed our belongings and checked out. Finally met the elusive Alyssa at front desk who apologized for the mishap BUT OFFERED NO SOLUTION! Alyssa! Come on girlfriend! Easy fix! Staff could have offered another room in the hotel along with their "sincerest apologies." WHAT! You guys were about to make us spend the night in a 4 diamond pool of Feces H2O!!!!!! GIMME ANOTHER ROOM YOU GUYS! GIMME A FREE MAGNET! FREE DRINK? FREE BREAKFAST? IM TIRED AND I DONT WANNA SLEEP IN 115!! Gimme SOMETHING! No effort was made to correct the situation. The views are great but the service here is awful. 4 cubic zirconia hotel. Definitely not diamond. Fake news. Bye. P.S. We ended up driving back to OC in the middle of the night because we had just given up hope on all the other 4-diamond hotels nearby. read more
