The Diner Down Under is located in the basement of 16 Hospital Street, enter through the front door and head downstairs. At the bottom of the stairs, head right for the family diner or head left for the bakery showroom. The diner serves up standard Canadian cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the casual clean dining room, which reminds me of a very generic company lunchroom which is bright & white with several tables. There's also a takeout counter/Greco Pizza Xpress counter in the dining room. The latest menus, specials, and pricing are posted on their website at http://thedinerdownunder.com/
We stopped here to check out the bakeshop during our quick stop in the Village of Bath. The bakeshop had plenty of homemade breads, rolls, cookies, cinnamon buns, and other treats packaged in clear plastic bags displayed on metal wheelie racks, not a fancy place. They have reduced priced bake goods, which my friend was really checking out and purchased a pack of 2 cinnamon buns for under $2, reduced price. We each had a cinnamon bun once we were back in the vehicle, which was okay to us. The dough was more of a firm breadlike dry texture with swirls of cinnamon in between, and very minimal white icing (needed more). This is what we needed to go with our coffees.
We are spoiled back in the states to the west where we can get cinnamon buns with the sweet soft moist dough texture with plenty of cinnamon & sugar swirls and ample icing on top. read more
