Restaurant area going around that's kind of cool to watch while you're waiting. Our server was funny and made suggestions. She also made sure he had everything we needed. Good with the maple glazed cheese curds they're OK but do make your hand sticky My Son had the Chicken waffle mountain. It tasted good, but he didn't know it was going to be a sandwich. I ordered the harvest rice bowl. I liked the butternut squash and beets. The rice was well cooked the feta threw me off. I'm not a huge rice person but love beets and butternut squash. Stopped in driving through and really glad we did. I was hoping to grab a bowl of Clam Chowder and they had it! My husband had their Haddock Chowder. We split a blueberry and beet salad as well. It was all so delicious! The salad was large and fresh with a tangy balsamic dressing. And let's not forget the freshly baked roll they included with the soup with soft butter to load on top. That was the best roll I may have ever had. (And I love my rolls, ) They had many tempting desserts to be had but we were filled up from the great eats. Bought a Chocolate Cream pie for a Christmas Eve event. We couldn't eat the pie, the crust was like masonite. Threw it out, ran to Save a Lot in Caribou and bought a couple of pumpkin pies. When traveling, one of my favorite things to look for is a good lobster roll. We really found a good one today. Governor's offers some of the best seafood in the area as well as excellent other dishes. We started with the amazing fried scallops. Biting into them showed that they were moist, buttery, and delicious. They have the cook on these down to an artful science. Absolutely one of the best scallops we have ever had. The Lobster roll was packed full of delicious fresh lobster with a light sauce on a perfectly toasted bun. We could not get enough of this. On top of all of the amazing food, the service was kind, quick, friendly, and helpful. Even though the establishment was packed and busy this Monday, they made us feel welcome and loved. Food was fine. It was a diner. We got breakfast food. Nothing fancy, nothing terrible. The real bad news was the service. Took ten minutes for them to seat us with the restaurant empty. Took a long time for French toast and an omelette to come out. Took TWENTY MINUTES after our meal was finished to get a check. I don't know if they didn't plan on having customers or what because there were at least 4 servers and none of them seemed to be on their game. In town for business. Walking in from the parking lot there was a delicious smell coming from the kitchen which made me in the mood for seafood. Ordered the fried haddock and a cup of haddock chowder. The chowder was good, the fried haddock was super dry, and the breading was way too thick and lacked flavor. I had to pick off all the breading just a taste the fish. My associate ordered the lobster roll. They said it had no flavor at all and didn't even finish it. Very disappointing. read more

We had the cheeseburgers and fries and onion rings they come highly recommended as does their staff do visit them. their pot roast is also very very good and beer is plentiful. Governor's is a classic spot in Presque Isle for good, home-cooked food. They've been around for decades, and for good reason! Friendly service, good prices, excellent specials, and some damn good deserts! "Eat dessert first," has been their motto for years. I've had pretty much everything on the menu, and it's all pretty good. Not many options in this area, but this definitely is one of the better establishments. This meal includes fried pickles, a burger, lobster roll, haddock fry, and a cream puff. First, the fried pickles. Pretty good! Battered, not breaded, but a much different texture for a battered take, in a good way. Good crunch for sure. Next up, entrees. The burger was decent and filling, tho a bit overcooked. No big deal, I'd order it again. Now, the lobster roll. For $18, you can get a huge roll, and it's fresh Maine lobster. For $25, you can double the meat. For $30 or so, you can triple the meat. And folks, it's a solid lobster roll! Not going to find much better anywhere. The haddock fry is their way of saying fish and chips, and on Friday it's their special. This is a huge piece of fish, so you better be hungry. Did I mention their portion sizes are huge? Yeah, they're huge. Dessert! Ok, only one pic here, and that's of the cream puff. Thing is huge, filled with homemade whipped cream, topped with hot fudge. Seriously, thing is nuts, and yes, it tastes really good. They have cakes, 1 lb peanut butter cups, lemon bars, eclairs, and more, so you're not at a loss for options. Their famous dessert is called the federal deficit, which is an absolutely massive ice cream... Pile? Not sure the right word, but it's absolutely massive. It's a food challenge, basically, and I think you do get your name on the wall of you finish it. Not sure if avoiding diabetes is part of the challenge or not, but it's absolutely huge. Good for groups! If you happen into Presque Isle, this is a must try. Not much in PI, but you're guaranteed a decent meal here. read more

As I was seated, I asked the hostess what the best thing on the menu was. She suggested the maple chicken poutine. It's not something I ever would have ordered, but I decided to give it a try. Governors food always has great taste and the food is usually done in a timely manner. I enjoy the wait staff and how inviting into the place the staff are at the counter. went there three days ago because my wife loves their pie and the only thing I could think that they made halfway decent was there clams their whole clams. my wife went in because we got takeout and brought out the boxes and I looked at them and they didn't seem cooked so I took a bite of one and sure enough they were completely underdone dangerously so. I went home that evening and ended up with most heinous food poisoning I've ever had. This is after my wife took him back in and they re-cooked them. They've gone downhill and these years seat exclusively elderly people, obviously that's all well and good but why I say that is if it would've been somebody else maybe somebody in their 60s 70s or 80s they definitely would have met their end. I was horribly sick for three days and I'm still not feeling right puking fever, the whole thing, don't eat here. I warn you. read more

Now this place is a gem! As you walk in, you're not only greeted with a warm welcoming - but.... behold! A pastry and treat display that will satisfy anyone's taste buds! Unlucky for us, we were seated so I could observe said deliciousness, and in my mind I was already ordering a take home stash! Waitress was quick with our coffee and taking our order. Coffee was hot and fresh! The food did take a while to come out (hence the 4*). Not sure if they were short on staff as it was New Years Day, but when it arrived we were certainly not disappointed! I do particularly enjoy the establishments that put their own twists on the standard regular staples of the breakfast menu. I had eggs benedict, the home fries were delicious and crispy, the ham was thin but very plentiful, the English muffin was really huge and their hollandaise sauce was quite delicious! I would certainly recommend that dish! Needless to say I did go home with a bag of goodies! Chocolate no bake cookie- so dense and filling! Gingerbread- huge, moist and to die for! Potato candy- I think that is what it was called.... a nice over sized so much better "Mounds" candy bar- ohhh for the love of god could it get any better??? And the finale a chocolate cream puff! Great place for good food and drinks. Usually very busy but not a long wait. I usually stop while visiting Northern Light AR Gould.

A winner!! Home cooked meals and desserts. Reasonably priced and friendly service. I went with the haddock chowder which was fantastic! I also tried their lobster roll which was very tasty and fresh tasting. Would have been five stars if the potato wasn't bizarre looking! There aren't many options in Presque Isle, so for the location, I'd probably give a 3.5-4 star. However, comparing against other restaurants I've visited over the years, I'm giving a 3. The service was friendly, restaurant was clean, bathrooms were clean, and food was priced fair. The parking is out behind the restaurant and I would recommend adding a couple way-finding signs to the lot to direct pedestrians to the front entrance. The food was okay. I ordered ham and that was tasty. I also had the sweet potato fries and they weren't cooked well. The others in my group agreed that the food was good; it just wasn't that "home-cooked" type of meal we would expect from Governors. read more

The food is not bad depending on what you get and what you like. The burgers are pretty good and so are the breakfast burgers cheese steaks are also really good too. If you're looking for something to take home in a doggy bag I'd recommend the moose burger. The service is pretty great. Servers are always nice and ready to help when needed. The ambience is also different from other restaurants not the best, but definitely not the worst especially if you like having a train driving past your booth. read more

My first trip to Presque Isle, we decided to eat at Governors. We're in Maine so what better than a Lobster roll. Even though the price was a little high, I ordered their, "regular" single portion that came with KrinkleCut fries. The service was Great and the food arrived quickly. Their Bun was fresh n tasty. For the Lobster, it didn't have much taste like other Rolls I've had and for $21.00 I would of expected more than 2 oz of Lobster. The fries absolutely had been cooked long before they served. They were barely warm, soft and soggy. Again for $21 I would of thought freshly cooked order would of come to the table.. Nice dining room and all, and the main course i had was pretty good (been a while and I forget what it was, but i remember liking it well enough) thing that kind of turned me off was the dinner roll was just a store bought roll with that annoying, almost frozen pat of butter you'd expect from a low end truck stop diner.
