As a traveler I can only give a opinion based on one visit, one waitress and one cook. That being said we had a very nice experience ordering our food to go from a helpful and cheerful waitress. We were suffering some slight hangovers and she was very nice to provide some huge glasses of water. Unfortunately the service is about where the pluses end. I opened my breakfast skillet in the car to take a couple bites before we headed off to the hotel and the entire thing was drowning in a pool of oil at the bottom. As I continued to eat, the grease and salt made it almost unbearable to finish. I hope our experience was not the usual because the diner looked to be quite popular. read more

After driving past this restaurant hundreds of times and seeing cars just jammed in its parking lot day and night, we decided we'd give the place a try. Our first two attempts failed because there was no parking, but this morning we finally found a parking space and made it inside the building...and were totally underwhelmed. It's not charming, it's not comfortable, and our biscuits and gravy were standard food service fare. The only bright spot was our friendly and hardworking server. We could have had an outstanding scratch-made breakfast five miles up the road, or a more enjoyable retro diner experience downtown...sigh. Good food but slow service. We went on Sunday morning, and there was about a 10 minute wait to be seated. However, once seated, it took almost half an hour for the food to arrive, and we ordered right away. My husband had the wet burrito and said it was good. It was stuffed with ground beef. I had a 2 stack of chocolate chip pancakes and they were huge! I ordered a side of hash browns, not salted which was great, but they were greasy. All in all, good value for the money. read more

I was really wanting to post 5 stars since we drive 45 minutes to get here! My husband and I had a great experience the first time we were here. The waitstaff as before was fantastic! No complaints at all. My hubby loves that garlic bread and yes we arrived for breakfast and they never have a problem making it and once again it's one of the best he had! I stole a bite and it was wonderful! We both ordered steak and eggs and I guess my only issue Is my steak was awful! All marble and veins which was very disappointing because my husbands looked fine! Once again the staff made it right but maybe in the future just don't serve that cut of meat to paying customers! I love steak and eat it often! I also buy a cow every year and I know what tastes good and what should be thrown out! Needless to say, we will be back and hopefully match that bread with it's intended target! This restaurant was absolutely amazing! We were in town and had a group of 20 people and called ahead to warn them we were coming and Karen was willing to start snagging tables for our group. We wanted fish but were going in the opposite direction of our usual places, so i googled "fish frys in Mt. Pleasant" and the first one up was The Diner. And now we see why! The portions are huge, the fish is amazing, and the service was terrific! Not just one kind of fish, but four to choose from, and with the AYCE choice, we got to try all of them. And then the table next to us ordered the Sampler Platter for the fish!!! Omgosh! HUGE! Lol! We look forward to coming to this gem again and again. Turns out we've been passing by for years! The food is usually on your table in 5 minutes or less, the special includes two eggs, three strips of bacon, two slices of toast, and coffee for $3.99. There's locals who eat in there every day, and the waitresses are very friendly. It's our regular weekly stop. read more

Look, it's a good local diner, made better with frequent visits. Why? Because the social experience of a small town diner often contributes to the feelings we have about the rest of the experiences there. Of course, the food has to hold up, and it definitely does, but my love of The Diner equates to 3.5 star food and 4.5 star service and atmosphere (for a local diner, not compared to fine dining), which makes it a solid 4 star overall rating. read more

My husband and I went just a short time ago and ate lunch. The food was fantastic and the people are really nice and friendly. My husband had a soup with homemade noodles and I had chicken fried steak with a sausage gravy that was really good. I would recommend this diner to anyone. We plan on going back again. read more
