After my last experience, I was really hesitant to return. However, I am a firm believer of 2nd chances (within reason), so I decided to give this place another try... and I'm glad that I did. Everything -- from the food, to the actors, to the comedy, to the plot -- was exceedingly better than before. The last time I was here, I came in a group, and none of us liked anything about it... and because I was the one who suggested it, I felt particularly embarrassed. I dont have time to express all that was wrong with this. It felt like a high school drama club written and done all by the students. I could hardly hear what was being said, and random chaotic things happened making it unclear what was going on or related to the story. it was at the hilton, so it was sub dennys quality. The entire experience was really poor for a very high price tag. And for sure dont pay extra to beca suspect. All they do is show your picture and ask you if you did it. You are in no way actually part of the show. read more

We really wanted to enjoy this!! With Covid there is not much to do on Halloween so I went out of my way to find something unique. Without any expectations we hoped for the best. Although we laughed a few times, the comedy and the story line was disjointed and the acting was atrocious. Our laughter was mostly brought on by embarrassment just for being there. I developed a terrible headache as the "cast" walked around screaming undiscernible "things" at the audience. The story didn't make sense. The clues were useless and the food was lacking in every way. The salad was the only part I ate. The chicken was pre-formed and had artificial grill marks? Was it really chicken? In retrospect, I doubt it. Chick Fil A does chicken better! My partner was a made a suspect and that part was fun and somewhat comical but the rest was abysmal at best. Tacky. Tasteless. Obnoxious. Odd..... Akin to a poorly executed Jr. High production by an immature and inexperienced pep squad on Adderall. And why on earth were there envelopes on the table asking for tips for the actors?? I have never been asked to tip a performer unless they have a hat and they are busking in alley somewhere! We paid for the performance already? How tacky!! And some guy was walking around taking photos without permission. I never signed anything giving permission for my photo to be used. If I find it posted anywhere to be used for advertisement, there will be a lawsuit! I felt entirely violated being photographed as I tried to chew my rubberized meal. No thank you! Never again! Not even if it was free! It sounds fun in theory but trust me, it is not what you are looking for! Go to a nice restaurant instead! This wasn't at all what we expected, unfortunately. The actors were obnoxious and were just super loud the entire time. There was barely any detail to the mystery, the food was just okay, and it felt really cheaply done and cheesy to us. We went in a group of 4 and thankfully we had a good time just entertaining ourselves and the other people near us. Personally think it's a waste of money and this company needs to do some re-vamping to the program to make it successful. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY! I bought tickets as a surprise for my husband's birthday, and and now wish I really, really hadn't. The room was so large that you could not hear nor understand what the actors were saying unless they were standing close by your table. Can anyone say sound system? The dinner was mediocre, and had very small portions. Thank goodness for the gravy on the potatoes which made it somewhat edible. The chicken was kind of mushy. The desert was chocolate cake which tasted as if it was recently defrosted. The acting was terrible. The script was terrible. The "host" detective was walking around eating her dinner during the show which i felt was tacky. Wait until intermission or til the show is over, why don't cha??!! All in all, I would give this show a 1.5 out of 10, and I definatly wouldn't recommend it to anyone to see. Very disappointing. read more

Unfortunately, this was not what I was hoping for. What I thought would be an actual show ended up being impromptu cheesy comedy. The hidden actors were very obvious, the clues made no sense, and you couldn't understand the actresses because they were shouting. The food wasn't very good. It was meant to be a 4 course meal but it wasn't. The salad was super small and mostly lettuce. I had the chicken marsala and it was way too salty. They served cheesecake for dessert and I am pretty sure it was from a grocery store. I am sad because I was really hoping it would be good.. If you are looking for an fun, interactive evening out on the town - don't waste your money on The Dinner Detective. Buy a mystery murder dinner kit, invite friends over and enjoy your own mystery dinner. It will be much better. It can't be worse. The food was terribly salty and virtually non-existent. If you do go, order the salmon, it was the only edible thing on our plates. The mystery itself was disappointing because none if the clues went together nor were all presented. However, I concede that some clues may have been mentioned and missed when the actresses were shrieking so loudly they couldn't be understood. I wish I had taken ear plugs. At the end of the night they said those who didn't enjoy the evening should recommend them to their enemies, they would take them, too. I know it was meant to be funny, but I couldn't recommend The Dinner Detective to even my worst enemy. read more

"We loved every minute. We went for my wife's birthday. We were looking for Murder Mysteries in Salt Lake and stumbled on The Dinner Detective and we were not disappointed. We had two actors at our table that we didn't realize were actors till the very end. The two police detectives that were the stars of the show were fun, funny, and kept the mood light and entertaining. There were twists and turns but the mystery came to a interesting yet solvable ending. Highly suggest this for those that like murder mysteries. " read more

My boyfriend and I went to the show for our anniversary and it was so much fun. The actors were great. They were clearly having a lot of fun, and it was easy to have fun with them. The bartender was a sweetheart, and the food was GREAT. I'm a vegetarian and always worry a little whether my food will be any good at this sort of thing, but it was fantastic. I have been to this event twice. The first time was a few years ago and everything was fantastic. The food, the production, absolutely fantastic. We went for a work party on Friday night and the acting was great and I have all the respect for their improve skills. Unfortunately, the food really is terrible. Realllly bad. I'm a terrible cook and I could do better. I also think they could condense the end. Of their skit to be before dessert and you vote while you eat as it drags a bit there. Kind of disappointing to see how much better it was a few years ago but the actors are definitely not to blame. read more

I do NOT recommend this business. I scheduled a show and with 3 weeks away from our scheduled show, we had a family conflict come up on the date we set. I called to change the day and was told their policy is that I had to pay $20 per ticket to get this rescheduled ($40 for 2 of us!). That is almost the price of another ticket. It seem to me that with 3 weeks to go, I would be able to exchange tickets for another day. Their email response stated that they had already bought the food!! ya, right!! Well, we paid the price but I will not buy tickets or recommend anyone else buy tickets for this reason. read more

First of all, they open the show (after you have purchased tickets and brought your aged grandparents) that the content is VERY PG-13. This was rather alarming because my Grandpa naively chose the name "Dick Tracey" and paid the price when the innuendos started flying. The food was terrible- pasta with a slap of "sauce" (cream of mushroom warmed from being left at room temperature) on a dry piece of chicken that took forever to arrive. The show was forced, the actors community theater rejects at best. The mediocre "The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show" that I surprised my wife with needed some improvements, and sadly we wanted to leave within 10 minutes of it starting, however it did get a little better due to audience participation. I found the humor offensive, the cast mocked religion particularly focusing on the Mormon culture, they mocked guests, referred male genitila as part of the props, and definitely nothing a child should attend, etc., it was just not my kind of humor. I was disappointed that the hotel banquet room we were in only had a homicide silhouette on the ground and that was it, nothing to set the theme of the era the murder took place, nothing on the tables we sat at, etc. Food was nothing great, the actual Mystery left many at our table with a "What?" ending. read more

This is definitely not for everyone. Dick jokes galore (not the private eye kind of dick either) and audience work. At first I considered it an introvert's nightmare but it grew from there. Had to arrive at 6, main course didn't come out until 8:40. Some people seemed to be having a good time but reading laminated clues, watching terrible improve work and being asked to spend $35 for photos, and pay for any drink but water was not my idea of a good time. I was so excited to see this show, but was quickly disappointed. I went to it expecting something totally different than what it turned out to be. Parts of it were fun and clever, but I got bored with it during other times and wished they would hurry and move on or bring out the next course. It is way too long - over 3 hours and could have been easily cut down to 2 hours. The way they presented the clues seemed a little disorganized and confusing as well, since there was so much "filler" in between. There was far too much time that lapsed from the time we arrived until we got our salads and by then I was starving! The show aside, the dinner was very good and the actors were excellent - very funny. It was the content that I didn't care for. Had it not been so long and been a little better organized, I would have liked it better. They were also continually making sexual innuendos which I didn't really like. I used a deal off ksl deals and it was $ 77 for both of us. The food was cold and hard, and not tasty. I thought the detectives were funny which made up for the bad food. It was a little awkward at times with some older people there and the sexual jokes. I had expected it to be on a stage with mood lighting and so you could see more, but instead there was just a tape outline of a body on the floor. The clues didn't make sense either, and when the case was solved it didn't seem to add up. Still entertaining. I think I would've liked it better had it been in a better location and on a stage. I dressed up all 40's like to go along with a murder mystery like theme, but no one else did.. Def eat before you go!! Felt a little cruise like--if you have been on one before. read more
