Went to dinner detective in west palm beach with some coworkers the other night. For the price, it was a fun and different experience however, I expected it to be different. It was a great one time experience but I probably would not go again. Check in went smoothly and as you are checking in, there were some appetizers being served, which were absolutely delicious. However, I do wish there were little picks or tongs to use to pick up the appetizers versus everyone using their hands. As you enter, there is salad and bread already at the table, which was good, you can't go wrong with that. Then you are given about 10 minutes to mingle and "interrogate" others at the start of the show. Which was a bit confusing at first because there were no instructions, no performance or anything to give us an inclination to what the crime we are solving might be, and many people were just shy about approaching others and talking. When people started talking, I also noticed it was one of those things where they weren't sure if they should answer truthfully or in character. That was really the only time guest were doing individual interrogations and interacting with others not at their table. Throughout the dinner, there were 3 Acts where different clues were presented. First, I would like to start off by saying all of the staff both actors and servers were great, very professional and nice. The actors were great however, the overall acts were a bit chaotic. There was an option to purchase a suspect package at an extra cost. Which would result in someone at your table being a part of the acts as a suspect. Which was a fun/funny experience. However, those portions seemed a lot like improv and had nothing to do with the actual scenario. The actors also tried to get the various guest involved by choosing individuals to complete reenactments and do task as a table (drawing a suspect, writing all the alias of the table members). Again these task, had nothing to do with the actual scenario and did not help with solving the crime. They felt more like time fillers. However, they did add some funny moments into the night. Okay, solving of the crime. Personally I was very lost. In order to solve the crime, you had to know/understand some specific pop culture references. Which I personally did not. So even with all the clues presented and the acts, I was very lost. The ages of the guest varied from teenagers to older adults. However, with a majority of the guest ranging from 50-70 years of age, so I understand the pop culture reference being older however, I think the overall show would be better if the references were more universally geared. Or if there were no pop culture references and all the facts needed were presented somehow. The food. Personally, I felt as if the portion sizes were good for the price and I left the show full. I personally liked that there were a variety of options available. They even had a vegetarian option which I was grateful for, however, no vegan options. The portion sizes for the vegetable lasagna were large, however, the food was served kind of cold. It still tasted good. But nothing amazing. Overall the decor was minimal. There was plain table cloth and table numbers at each table. One of the two detectives had a police vest on. I thought I read somewhere that there might be sound effects. However, the show didn't have any. The actors did not have any mics and there was no music or light effects. At the end of the show, if you wrote a Google review, you were given a free shot glass in exchange. read more

I had higher expectations. Probably because they have a high rating on Google but now it makes sense. They were giving out free shotglasses to people who showed them a 5 star review on Google before they left the show. Nothing was fantastic here. It was subpar and mediocre. I definitely applaud the actors for their performances but majority of the show seemed like improv. It was interactive so they did mingle with the guests and put them on the spotlight but it was really dragged out. We weren't sure why. If it was due to matching up the timing of the kitchen and food or if it was because they needed to drag out the allotted 3 hours. There was really only one acting scene that lasted 2 minutes. There were no other acting! Wish I knew that prior to coming. It was hard to figure out who the killer was because they give you a 10 minute break in the beginning to mingle with everyone and interrogate people. This doesn't work well with majority of the audience who came here for entertainment. It seemed like people didn't want to approach strangers and just talk. I think the hosts tried their best with the jokes they could come up with that weren't scripted and it did make me laugh here and there. The food was not good. I enjoy a dinner being waited on but the food was obviously mass produced and very dry and luke warm. The dinner came with water or self serve coffee or ice tea. If you wanted a soda, it was an additional $5 at the bar. I would tell everyone to save yourself the high ticket price as the show I attended lost its audience attention not even halfway through. My guest and I are in our 30's but the elderly couple sitting next to us in their 60-70's also said they were disappointed It was cheesy but now that I did it, I can share wi.th someone else to not waste their money on it. read more

Had a fun night out with the ladies. We went to the Palm Beach Gardens location. The show itself was cheesy. Lots of yelling and screaming but difficult to understand what was going on. The drinks are expensive $8 for a beer in a plastic cup. The food was just ok. The vegetarian pasta was tasty but the chicken was has hard and overcooked. The salad and cheesecake were excellent . My girlfriend booked this murder mystery dinner in West Palm Beach for a date night, and while I appreciate the effort, it wasn't what we expected. It was my first time at a murder mystery event, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but the whole night felt sloppy and confusing. There were no directions given, and the script was extremely hard to follow from the start. By the end, it felt like we were just left guessing wildly (and incorrectly!) with no clear idea of what was happening. The actors were pretty funny, which was a plus, but I couldn't tell if this was supposed to be more of a comedy or a drama. It definitely leaned into the comedy side, which is fine, but the script was such a mess that it was impossible to stay invested in the mystery aspect. Out of maybe 40 people, only a small handful even submitted guesses for the prize at the end, and most of us were way off because the characters and script and clues just weren't clear. The saving grace of the night was definitely the food. The restaurant they rented out was incredible. Wow. The meal was fantastic, and I would 100% go back just for that. Sadly, the rest of the experience didn't live up to the same standard. Maybe it would've been more enjoyable with clearer instructions or a more cohesive script. read more

we planned a birthday surprise for our friend for a murder mystery in Ocala. people... save your money ! it was awful, about 1/3 of the room left the event. the food was awful. buffet rubber chicken, overdone pork, mushy vegetables and crummy pasta. The cast tried hard, but their voices echoed off the walls, the story line was non existent. I've never been to a murder mystery before, but when people walk out ... it's bad! I rarely write reviews but I have to give this 2 stars. The food was fine (nothing wonderful but not bad- typical hotel chicken). The bar is cash only which they do not tell you so make sure to bring cash - no credit cards accepted. The actors keep picking on the same poor few people over and over . You feel so embarrassed for them that it's uncomfortable. Our friend was one of them. At one point they had a guy down on all fours for a LONG time. He was obviously miserable and finally just got up and went and sat back down. The actors are extremely loud and annoying. We were all texting each other under the table to see when we could leave. When the others at the table saws us they said "oh if you are leaving we can also!" Overall, VERY painful experience and waste of money. Honestly not sure how they are still in business. I had attended several mystery diners in NJ and NYC and was excited to attend. It was very disappointing - more of a comedy act than murder mystery. Some of the "bits" were way to long and repeated over and over again. Having to use your smartphones to read the clues?? Both actors were great, while sometime had to understand the lady cop. No back story of murder victim - no detective to put clues together - In my opinion, they need a faster way to check people in....One person is not enough... Bottom line - we left before they revealed the murderer... food was just ok! Cheesecake was delicious. read more

The show was very disappointing and not worth the price. The actors did not wear microphones, so it was extremely difficult to hear or follow along. It was held in a large room with a lot of people, so the actors screamed to try to be heard, which made the experience even worse. The food was mediocre at best. We saw people walking out, including 3 women from our table. The owner really needs to take feedback seriously to try to improve the experience for everyone. I was curious to see other reviews after my experience and see that the issue of not being able to hear has been mentioned on many reviews, both positive and negative. read more

A Birthday event that I would recommend for anyone who hasn't tried it. I asked a few friends to join me. It was a party of four couples plus one for a total of 9. Most of us selected either chicken or salmon as our main entree and one selected the veggie/pasta option. I never did anything like this and probably wouldn't do it again without a stage. See my thoughts below as to why. Getting there & checking in. The GPS took us directly to the hotel, I wish the email mentioned more details on parking and where to go once inside. There was a sign once inside the hotel and that made it easier to find the actual location inside the hotel. The check-in process was very easy. We mentioned the name and they gave us our meal tickets. We were instructed to write our code name before entering. The event started roughly 10 to 15 minutes after the stated start time. The hors d'oeuvres served were AMAZING and made the wait time feel very minimum. Food Served before event and decor. They had beef empanadas, cheese and olive skewers, and dumplings. All were cooked to perfection. On our table we had water and there was a bar serving drinks for an additional cost. My party didn't love the drinks they made and wish they had included more than just water. I was hoping for coffee or tea since they had sugar and creamer on the table, maybe I had to ask for it. I didn't and it was never offered either. The decor was very simple. Just tables with a simple table cloth with no other decor. There was a mini speaker in the corner playing music. There isn't much to the decor, but they did require everyone to dress up and I wish they had a photo wall or photo booth for us to take pictures or some keepsake on the table to encourage pictures or posting about the event on social media. I thought there would be random challenges throughout the night, especially during the break to help up solve the crime too. The main event. The event itself was very fun. I enjoy being randomly selected and asked questions, but I work as a public speaker, so I can see why some would not like this interact with the guest part of the show. They are a few planted actors seated randomly in a few selected tables. They have small parts and you don't know they are actors at your table until it's their scene. That is a fun added surprise. I thought the show was easy to follow and fun. There are two sheets of paper with instructors at the tables. It is a bit to read, but it is written with a silly and fun tone. The host and cohost didn't use a mic and I wish they did. Even without mics, they were very energetic and interesting throughout. I wish they would have encouraged the table to figure out the mystery together. This would have helped get everyone into it. I didn't like that it was all individual and in some way discouraged collaboration. Group effort would have made it more fun. The food. The first round was a very sad salad with a piece of bread with a side of ranch and butter. I love salads and was very disappointed with the first round of salads. The second round was the main entree which was chicken with gravy, some pieces of carrots, and broccoli and a delicious portion of mashed potatoes. The Salom option is the same except without the mashed potatoes and instead, they had 6 pieces of cold asparagus. The veggie/pasta option was a HUGE plate of pasta stacked on top of each other. It was very overwhelming. This is the only option that came with a lot of food. The other two options portions were not as generous. If you come hungry you might not leave full. The dessert was a massive piece of chocolate cake, which if you love chocolate you will enjoy. I do wish we had more options when it came to cake options. Overall, for the cost, it is a fun dinner to have. The flow of events is very smooth. You didn't know what to expect next and at the end of each act, food was served. We bought our tickets together and that ensured our party was seated together. As I said, it is a fun dinner to experience. read more

We were excited to go to this Dinner Detective Murder Mystery show in West Palm Beach. I never had to give feedback like this however, this was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH ONE PENNY!! The show was put on by immature, young adults who had ZERO talent!! Additionally, the narrator continually moved around constantly & it was difficult to focus on her. The food was hideous. How do you screw up chicken? The mashed potatoes were actually hard. The cheesecake tasted old. The actors try their best to interact with the diners but they draw the show out waaaay too long. There are no microphones so the two detectives have to shout and move around. The clues are contracts and newspaper articles and the like with vague references and lengthy, difficult ties to each other. It began with one lady entering the dining area holding a knife to her side screaming she had been stabbed. She flopped down on a chalk outline on the floor. Later in the 'show' several more people came out with knives the same way. The whole thing was poorly done. We did have a few laughs along the way during the night, (so I gave it one star), but it was from the antics of the audience or silliness from the detectives, one of which at one point wore a big pair of man's briefs over his pants. read more

Don't waste your money or your time. $72.32 (+ cash bar) for 3 hours of shouting and terrible food. What a disappointing experience. I had always wanted to participate in a murder mystery dinner show, and I was really excited about this, but the anticipation was far greater than the actual experience. The food was mediocre at best. The salad was good, but the entrée was awful. I had pre-ordered chicken marsala, but I got a piece of cold, undercooked chicken (no mushrooms) with cold, dry mashed potatoes and hard green beans (but I I like raw green beans, so not much of a complaint). I wasn't expecting a 5-star meal because I was really there for the show, which also left much to be desired. I'm so dumbfounded by what I saw tonight. The acting wasn't just sub-par; it was truly awful. I held my ears most of the time because there was just so much noise. No one used a mic, so it was all shouting and screaming for the better part of three hours. I kept looking around the room at the other audience members, and everyone looked either annoyed or confused (or both). The "clues" had no bearing on the "murders", and by the end of the night, although my friend and I had guessed the murderer, we were never advised when or where to enter our answer. The other people at our table also missed their opportunity to guess. It was such an amateur show, and this company has some nerve charging such an obscene amount for such a pitiful performance. We spoke to several strangers on the way out, and they all shared the same feedback. I hope that they also write reviews to warn others. I couldn't wait for the night to end. I will never waste my money on the Dinner Detective again. P.S. There was a gratuity envelope on the table for the actors!!! Are they for real?! Save your money for a nice dinner with good ambiance. We went to attend their show last night. 5 of us women including an elderly woman who is a pastor. The management of signing everyone in was not done in the best manner. We waited in line for about 1/2 hour. They were very disorganized and were going to place us at a table that had only 4 seats. My elderly friend and others already sat at a table while waiting for me to check in so I told the woman when I finally got up to her to sign. We were sitting eating our salad etc and the same woman came over to us and said we had to move because someone else wanted to sit there. We explained there wasn't enough seats at the other table for us. She was very rude. We signed up for this and paid $80 each in SEPTEMBER so there was no reason we couldn't all sit together. Longer story short, after holding up everyone's dinner and the show for at least a half hour they called the police and made us leave. read more

The show was different than what I expected to see. I went to one prior and it was more of a play on stage. An alive clue show. The dinner detective performance was funny. Had a difficult time trying to understand how the performance pieced together to get the killer. The food description advertised is not what was served. Hardly any appetizers, salad didn't have any of the detailed items listed. The sides were not what was described. Worst Birthday Ever! This is a kids show not for adults!! I was looking forward to this and had planned to have a group of friends come to a murder mystery dinner with us. I am so grateful that, that didn't work out and it was only my boyfriend and I who wasted money on this kindergarten-like cheesy play. First off, the acting was horrendous.. The people at the table and us became friends on our mutual boredom and distaste for this 'show'. The clues did not lead to the murderer... the only reason that it was guessed that this person was the murderer was that the person was not in the room during the murders. Why give useless clues to waste our time? Second, that first 20 minutes where you want people to mingle and question each other is pointless, you are not getting any clues relative to the actual murder. Third, the food was bland. My boyfriends mash potatoes were too salty, his vegetables not well cooked and the chicken was gooey and slimy full of tendons. The Salmon that I got barely had any flavor. It was just a hot mess. There wasn't an open bar and for the experience we encountered they should have given us each 2 alcoholic drinks to deal with that catastrophe. They charged for alcohol and sodas. Not worth the money or the time (Even if you used groupon like we did and then had to pay an additional $30 for additional fees). I wanted to up and leave multiple times. This gets two stars because the food wasn't bad. My sister was so excited to see a murder mystery dinner show, she flew in from NY to attend the show with me. Our WHOLE table of 12 complained how HORRIBLY organized the show was, and they will not recommend it to anyone. The actors did not have headset mics to recite their lines, they were merely yelling their lines from across the room at each other, I missed a lot of lines during the show. I thought it was so unprofessional, and you would think they would have a convincing wardrobe for their "ACTORS", as well. I DO NOT recommend this show to anyone who thinks this will be what they expected or worth the money. I enjoy giving positive reviews, and not negative reviews, but for what my sister and I both paid for the show, I feel like we got duped because of the hype on Groupon that the DINNER DETECTIVES say about their show. (October 5, 2019 show) All in all, it was fun. Great way to spend an evening. Now, since it was our first time at one of these events I was a little lost in the beginning. The chain of events I would have changed a little bit. Since they have us come in 15 minutes earlier, the show should have somewhat started out front. Without giving too much info out I can't really go into details. However, the main killing should happen when we are all walking around the room not really paying attention. Not when we are all sitting in the same room. The show was funny, decent writing. As far as dinner, I feel as though they did the bait n switch. A tad dishonest. The website showed three choices for dinner. Chicken Marsala, Grilled Salmon, and Vegetarian Lasagna. I chose the Chicken Marsala. What I received was a 1/4 chicken that looked like the poor thing died from starvation. It was a very lazy way of making Chicken Marsella. In all my years of cooking, I have to say it wasn't like any version I've seen. They took a small 1/4 of a chicken and threw some mushroom sauce on it and called it chicken marsala LOL. The leg was so small you, once you pull off the skin you're left with a bone. Very pathetic. I've owned 2 Italian restaurants and am pretty darn good guessing weights of food. I'd be embarrassed to serve that in my restaurant. There were probably no more than 3 ounces of meat once you tear off the skin. I asked the server if I could change dinners, she said no. They switched the choice on me, yet I wasn't allowed to switch my choice? It doesn't sound fair to me. The one time I wish I brought my phone in so I could take a picture. I was very surprised that the chicken was so tiny and dark meat. WTH??? The wife had lasagna which was a decent size. Also, I saw the salmon being served, also a decent size. Not huge, but it was ok. The side of mashed potato and a broccoli crown with 3 carrots was served on all dishes. The food quality was very good all in all. I will most definitely return. Live and learn. I purchased a two person package on Living Social for $110. I DID read the fine print which mentions that online reservations are required and that taxes are extra ($7?), but fails to mention there is a charge of $15.25 on TOP of your voucher. It would have been $140.50 total for the two of us... not the $110 that LS advertised. To make matters worse, I discovered that if I had just booked directly through their website, the reservation and taxes were included and the cost for two was $120. So basically their "deal" on Living Social is a total scam. I'm disputing the charge with my credit card company because, frankly, it's dishonest. I'll get my money back and they lost a customer. read more

Do not get sick or you will still have go attend show. When they say no refunds, they mean it, no matter what! Three in my party of four were sick and had to go even though we told them we were contagious, or we would lose our money. I will never recommend this to anyone I care about. read more

Cast didn't know what they were doing, plot was weak, which I could have seat with but to top it off the food and accompanying service was abysmal. So funny, we laughed all evening. Sitting with strangers at a table quickly turned into sitting with a table of all friends. The cast was hilarious and entertaining, full of surprises. The food was good and filling and well spaced out so you could eat in-between acts and question your ":maybe guilty:" neighbors and then have more show with the actors. Careful, you may be called upon to participate. My husband loooved it. Our daughter in CT. is going to go for her husbands birthday because of our recommendation. We will go again soon. read more
