This day care facility was recommended by another facility that only takes regular day care customers. I am coming from out of town with my small mutt and need a place to care for her during the day. I was asked what type of dog she was and as soon as I mentioned that she was 12% German Shepherd, I was told they wouldn't take her. End of discussion. I was stunned. When I tried to continue the conversation, maybe just to ask if she had a recommendation, the woman was short, rude and I was essentially hung up on. read more

This place is dishonest and treats dogs poorly. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. We come back 2.5 hours later and the owner said everything was great and quickly handed him off. We paid her and gave her a tip. Our dog seemed slightly more shy than normal, but he's a shy dog anyways. 500 yards down the road there's pools of blood in the backseat of my car. This woman handed us back a damaged and hurt dog without saying anything. Immediately we return to try and address this and at least get some bandages. Understanding that accidents happen but frustrated that this info was not disclosed as it should've been. There was not more than 5 minutes between us leaving and returning. We called the business and nobody answered. When we returned no one was there and nobody answered the phone, middle of the day. The dog is still bleeding actively. It's obvious that this woman couldn't have been oblivious to this fact. There was simply too much blood. We wait around the place for fifteen minutes. Occasionally knocking or calling the business to no avail. They gave us a damaged dog, that they hurt, and then promptly ignored us! We will never come back here again. They hurt our dog then took our money. On top of that, they really didn't do a good job grooming at all. My dog is hurt and I am lied to and taken advantage of. Take care of your dog and stay away from this place. read more

I don't understand some folks giving this establishment poor ratings. I've taken my Shiba Inu there several times for bath/nail trim and Dawn does a great job - and believe me, when I attempt to do the same at home, you'd think I'd thrown her in a dungeon full of snakes and bats! Because I live a bit distant from Chimacum, I always stay and wait. I can't help but chuckle looking at my dog giving me the "stink eye" for putting her through such insult as a bath! Dawn handles her very well and with such ease that it's really not worth it for me to battle with my dog in the shower. It is wonderful to feel her fur when she's all clean and smelling great! The prices are reasonable. Dawn is very nice and so is the receptionist. The place is not fancy, but it is clean. If I ever had to leave my dog in their kennels, I would not hesitate. This is the first one star review I've ever left. I think the owner of this place must be near retirement, or she's just brash. I don't know. I had an appointment for my dog to be groomed there. She said she would keep him for 3-4 hours, not just the time he's going to be groomed. I realized a couple days ago that meant he would be in a cage. My dog is deathly (and I mean, DEATHLY - he was a shelther dog) afraid of cages, he's got terminal cancer (any day now), and he's old. I tell her this, and she cuts me off mid-sentence and tells me that he would be in front of her the whole time. I start to tell her it doesn't matter, he will scratch himself bloody if he's in a cage, and she again tells me (brusquely) that it doesn't matter, he will be in front of her the whole time. I guess I was hoping, based on customer service, that she could make her schedule so I could drop him off at 9a and she would take care of him right then. She didn't ask, and I didn't get the chance to tell her, because she says "Ok, I'll cross you off the list" and hangs up on me. I don't even know if she's a good groomer, but her customer service sucks. read more

Jennifer at the Dog & I is fantastic at trimming fur. We took our adopted 6 yr. old corgi in to have the $65 package. Bath, nail trim, fur trim, etc. To our surprise, our corgi looked more like a corgi than before. It's the expertise of the way she trimmed her butt area. It makes it look wider. The sanitary trim was done very well also. My husband (Mike Thornburgh) & I were very pleased. read more

My rating of one star is even too much. I boarded Jayco for the 25th and the 26th of April due to I had to have knee surgery in Silverdale. On the 27th I called and went to pick him up from the Dog & I Grooming and Boarding. Their daily fee was $40.00 a day, ok, I thought, but when I got there they told me without a bill that the fee now is $250.00. They said he broke thru the gate of the kennel breaking the lock and then peeing in their kitchen and pulling papers off their counter. Wow!!!To me it seems like they where not watching my dog for needing to pee or seeing to his needs. His food bowl of witch I brought in for them to use was given back so filthy with mud on the bowl. Plus, my dog had mud on him to the top of his legs and bottom of his chest. They said the fee increased due to the broken lock and the peeing in the kitchen and papers on the floor from the counter. I have had full show cuts and easy care puppy short trims and I have been extremely happy each time. I also appreciate her boarding facility...indoor/outdoor runs...exercise yards...individual attention and medication needs etc are all provided. The owners live on the premises so the dogs are as safe as can be. Dawn's husband runs a sharpening business so you will never find a blunt blade in her clippers! She can also board cats. I have never left a review but feel compelled to warn people for the sake of their pets. I would never take my dog to this place. I pulled over one day to coax a chicken away from the road, and as I happened to walk past the large window and glance inside, I was shocked to see a man literally and roughly THROW a little dog in a cage and slam the door. We did both boarding and grooming at The Dog and I. I will admit I'm a tough customer having owned a pet products distribution company for 25 years First the grooming..... it's not all that common to find a groomer who actually knows the proper way to clip an Airedale Terrier. Dawn did an excellent job on my Airedale as well as my Golden Retriever. I had very specific requests which she followed exactly. Boarding. ...this is not a fancy place, however, the facility comes with decades of animal handling experience which is extremely important. Dawn takes care to make sure each dog is very safe and comfortable. The dogs have secure inside kennels/runs as well as space outside for fresh air. We always feel sad leaving our dogs. But they did fine and so did we knowing they were in good hands. Thank you Dawn and Jeff. read more

Dawn is a fantastic groomer, how lucky we are to have her right here. She can do a great easy-care teddybear trim OR ramp it up and do the very specialized breed-specific cuts with the best of them!! Really great with the little dogs, I have three and Dawn takes care of all of them! She is a great stylist for mixed-breed dogs, she really knows how to tailor a cut to the dog's unique personality and shape. We were nervous about leaving our dog in a kennel for 2 weeks, especially because she is very attached to us, has shown aggression to other dogs, and is a picky eater. Our first time using The Dog & I, she did fine and so we boarded her again for over two weeks. We picked her up this past weekend and discovered that she played with other dogs (!), let another dog sit on her bed and sat with him on his, ate her food every day without coaxing and, in general, had a fine time with a lot of exercise and social ties. Jane, who told us all this, also gave us pointers on how to better handle her with other dogs when on the leash. It's nice to know we were the problem! Dawn and Jane are very experienced with dogs and we will never be worried about boarding her again - at least as long as we go to The Dog & I! read more

We will never take our dog here, again! We were referred by Sunny's Spaw in Sequim, WA, and thought we'd try it, since it was closer to our new address. We took our dog in at 9 a.m., and were told by Dawn that "he'd be done in the middle-to-late-afternoon," which seemed an awful long time, to us. Dawn was curt, the shop didn't seem clean, and as a new customer...her attitude was off-putting. When I asked where our dog would be from 9 until later that afternoon, she pointed to a cage in the next room. I explained that our old mill dog rescue had spent most of his life alone, neglected in a cage in a barn, and that we didn't really like keeping him for so long in a cage...so, could I just bring him back that day...a bit closer to the time she could groom him. She huffed and said, "I don't work that way." My dog - who does just fine at other groomers just shook all the time this exchange went on with Dawn. (Is she the shop owner??) I went home & told my husband that my instincts were that this was not a very good shop. We decided to bring our dog home and just go elsewhere. Within the same hour, my husband went back to pick up our dog. Our little dog had a partial hair cut...but was shaved all the way to the skin on his chest and stomach! He was also soaking wet and in a cage. My husband explained that we weren't comfortable with the situation, and that it had taken us years working with our dog, since he had been treated so badly in the past. At this, Dawn threw our dog's leash, harness and collar on the counter, and stated that we owed her $50.00. So for a partial cut, a waaay too close shave we never asked for, a bath, and nothing else...she insisted on the full cost of the appointment! Just to get out of there, my husband agreed, and paid her the full amount in cash. He brought our soaking wet dog home, and we will never ever go to that unprofessional, and rude groomer again. Tomorrow, we will drive nearly all the way from Port Ludlow to Port Angeles, to have a kind, gentle, attentive, pleasant, professional, and trained groomer "fix" what Dawn did to our dog. I recommend Peninsula Pet Care...and must warn that if you care about your pet...don't take them to "The Dog and I," in Port Hadlock. Maybe that kind of business behavior is good enough for Port Hadlock, but we found "The Dog and I" appalling.
