Neither of my (dog) children have had experience being boarded (outside of the Humane Society where they were adopted)--so I was naturally nervous to drop them off. My anxiety was instantly put at ease from the moment we arrived. The boys had a wonderful weekend. I knew they would experience food anxiety, as they have difficulty eating in foreign or stressful environments. We are up here for a long weekend. We have a rather hyper/energetic pup who needs to burn energy. We did explore the local dog park, did some hiking, and snowshoeing, but he still had tons of energy, so we made a daycare appointment to burn off more energy and boy did he. The staff is so nice which I greatly appreciate since we are from out of town. I always worry of course about taking my pup to a new place. We are staying at Gold Point and the lady at the front desk told me she takes her dog here and it is a wonderful place. It really was. The staff there are amazingly nice and caring! They love dogs, and they definitely love our dog and took great care of him. Our boy went there for many days while we were there in the winter. When we picked him up each day, they'd tell us how he did, how well he played with other dogs, and they seemed to truly care for his well being. They gave him a nail trim and a bath, and were willing to accommodate us by using our dog's shampoo/conditioner, super nice of them. We're so overjoyed how lucky we got by finding this special place. We totally scored big when we found The Dog House. Staff are laid back, very friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to taking care of animals. We arrived on time for check in on a Friday morning and toured the grounds immediately. Ending the weekend, we arrived a couple of hours earlier than expected to pick the boys up, no problem. They offer single kennels as well as "suites" if you have more than one pup, like we do, and want to have them board together. Cool fact of the day - The Dog House offers real time updates and an overall report card for how your muts did, if ya like. Very cool place and reasonably priced for a tourist town like Breck. I was so nervous to leave my dog at a boarding facility: he's never stayed at one before and he is not dog friendly. It is so great that they can accommodate dogs that are not dog friendly! The staff was so warm and loved my dog, you can tell they love animals. I would definitely bring him back again. One suggestion I have is to have photos online of the "suites." I wasn't exactly sure what my dog was getting just based on the description alone. It would be nice to offer a tour for first time visitors as well. Thank you! read more

The dog house is simply the best - my high energy Alaskan Malamute -Nikita has been going to the Dog House since I adopted her. She goes anywhere from one day a week to seven days a week. Due to international travel for my job, she will boards up 10 days. While I am working either here or away, I know my terrorist dog is safe and sound and well taken care of. Rebecca and Steve are two of the most honorable people I know. They have great rates on the punch card system, their rates and cancellation policies are clearly stated on their web page. Which you have a acknowledge when you book. It is clear if you don't cancel by 9 am you will be charged same as nearly all business they rely on a booking system, they turn down other customers when you book -if you do show up they lose business fairly obvious, (people who claim otherwise should try reading the cancelation policy not just clicking before bitching in a review). While we were visiting friends in Breckenridge, we dropped off our Husky that is less than a year old. Make sure you pay attention to the drop off hours, they are closed from noon to 2. I am sure to clean up after the dogs that got picked up that morning and ready for new ones at 2. Jack was happy to be dropped off. He didn't like his kennel, but he sleeps with us when we are on vacation. Now we know. The first time we left him over night. When we picked him up he was worn out, that is always nice. He was hungry, but again he doesn't eat well when we travel anyway. So for owners that don't leave their dogs often, don't worry about it - if you dog is hungry when they get home. Very nice staff. I love The Dog House! My blue heeler, Gypsy, loves The Dog House! The place is always clean when I drop by and I am sure that is no easy feat when there are many dogs coming and going. Rebecca, Steve, and the rest of the staff are awesome; they're very attentive to each dogs' individual needs, and I feel totally comfortable having my dog play at The Dog House all day. I especially love that they require all dogs that come in to have current vaccinations on record- that's one huge advantage over going to the local dog park (where most of the owners don't even pay attention to their own dogs... facepalm). The hours are great for going skiing in the winter- you will still have time to pick up your dog if you ski until 4pm and there's a dog-friendly brewery on the way out if you're frothing for a tasty brew after riding all day. Heads up, The Dog House is closed from noon to 2pm. You have to make a reservation online (easy!), no walk-ins are allowed, and that makes sense because I'm sure they have limited space and don't want to go over capacity. There's a virtual tour available on their website so you can check out what the place looks like on the inside and they also have an Instagram (@breckenridgedoghouse) that they're pretty good about posting to; it's pretty exciting to see video clips of my dog having fun! I love bringing my dogs to Breckenridge. But, they are not the kind of dogs that can be left alone for very long. In the summer and fall, that is not a problem because we take them everywhere. But, in the winter when we ski, we need a place to board them during the day. I did some research and a couple of people recommended The Dog House. It was an easy matter to get my vet to send over my boy's vaccination records and I can make reservations online. The staff is nice and seem to all love animals. Their facility is clean and it seems to be very well run. I have used them a couple of times now and my boys both seem to enjoy going there. I'll definitely use them again. read more

We just returned from a 2 night stay in Breckenridge. We decided at the very last minute to spend the weekend up there, as our usual (and excellent) boarding kennel was full. I read the ONE review on this site and decided to take the change of boarding our dog, Rosie. She is a two year old Golden/Border Collie mix. The first item that I have to complain about are the kennels. We paid for the "top of the line" kennel - at $45 per night. It was a little tiny room - maybe 3' x 5', if that. The "standard" kennels (at $35/night) are nothing more than wire boxes. I cannot imagine leaving my dog in one of those kennels for hours on end... the tiny space our pup was enclosed in was bad enough. When I made the reservation, I was told that the staff ISNT EVEN THERE on Sundays, except for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. Dog lovers BEWARE -- your sweet family member will be locked up Saturday night, be looked at for a brief moment of feeding/watering/walking on Sunday morning, then locked up AGAIN until 4:30pm when the staff reappears to once again feed/water/walk your dog - and then locked up again in these teensy tiny spaces until the staff gets in again on Monday morning. We chose to pick our dog up and keep her with us during the day on Sunday. The most disturbing part of this was that when we did pick her up on Sunday morning, she GULPED down 2 huge bowlfuls of water immediately!! I have no idea when or if they gave her water on Saturday night - and I am positive that she had no access to water until we picked her up at 9:30am on Saturday morning. As for the outdoor "Play Area" - don't be fooled. We're not talking acres of room to roam, here. The Dog House has erected a set of dog runs that they stick your dog into. Our dog is about 60lb and needs room to RUN - there is not room for anything like that, here. I was very, very disappointed in the facility at The Dog House, we will never return and I would be very careful about leaving your family pet at this facility. read more

I just got home from picking up a very happy and absolutely exhausted puppy from a day of daycare at The Dog House (she is snoring on my feet as I type this). I am thrilled to have a place where my Great Dane/Energizer Bunny mix puppy can play and interact with other dogs in a safe, clean, and supervised environment while I am at work. Rebecca, Steve, and staff are great - they are friendly, they take the time to learn about each dog that enters their facility, and they are patient and work on improving my puppy's behavior during her stay. However, The Dog House is more than a daycare/boarding facility. It is also a great local training resource. Rebecca and Steve recognize that every dog (and owner/handler) is different, and they provide an efficient, personalized approach to training. I originally reached out to The Dog House after adopting a puppy with a documented history of abuse/neglect. I wanted to make sure the puppy got a good start in obedience training and to make sure we identified and addressed any issues resulting from the abuse/neglect. I also wanted an objective assessment of my puppy's behavior because I knew that I was (unintentionally) babying her because of her history. Steve quickly worked me into his schedule and provided guidance - tailored to my puppy - that resulted in positive changes in behavior almost immediately. Most importantly, it has been easy to continue/reinforce this training at home. read more

EDIT: I received a sweet message from Rebecca, the owner of The Dog House the evening I posted this review. I have upped my original two star rating to four because she expressed genuine concern for my feelings and the situation that happened with my pup. I just returned home from a two day skiing trip in Breckenridge for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. We decided to bring the third member of our family along, instead of leaving him in Denver for two nights, and decided to find a boarding place once in Breckenridge. I found The Dog House through a Google search and was confident he was in good hands. (As a side note, my pup has been boarded before, as recently as last month, and had a wonderful experience!) Before hashing out my concerns, I must say that the staff were extremely sweet and helpful. I have nothing bad to say about the ladies who handled my dog, but perhaps the facility itself or the attention paid to my dog when boarding. He was dropped off on Thursday morning, we went skiing and out for the night, and planned to pick him up on Friday morning. Not much time for things to go awry, right? I received a call on Thursday evening from an employee of The Dog House asking about a limp my dog seemed to have, as she wanted to make sure it did not happen there. It was a pre-existing injury, and I thought that was super nice of them to call and inquire about this instead of brushing it off, so I was sure he would have a good evening. Well our dog had a rough night. He apparently had so much anxiety overnight that he got diarrhea and pooped all over himself, his bed, and his blanket! The woman working there was super apologetic (she had to hose everything off, including my pup) and she couldn't have been nicer. Also, my dog was so freaked out, he rubbed his nose raw and bloody on the kennel door (I'm guessing), and will surely have a scar. This is not normal behavior for him AT ALL, so it was pretty upsetting. To sum it up, I'm not really sure what happened. Since the staff all seemed so lovely and attentive, my best guess is that my dog did not get a great deal of time outside the kennel and/or he was left in a dark, scary place by himself all night and freaked outttt! If you are thinking of boarding your dog here, I would advise that he/she is crate trained and that you speak with a staff member about the exact schedule your dog will be on throughout their stay. I know now that my dog needs more attention than was given, which may not be the case for others. read more

This place is awesome!!!! After our horrifying experience at DNR Kennels down the road my wife called these guys next. Steve on of the owners answered the phone and even though they were full that night was willing to find a place for our German Shepherd puppy if we needed it. We ended up waiting the next day anyways which was ok. When we arrived we were greeted by bother owners Steve and the founder Rebecca. They had first hand knowledge of the breed and weren't surprised or scared by the fact we feed raw food to our puppy. Like all other good boarding places we were allowed to see the accommodations which were clean and the place didn't smell bad either. Anytime we would go pick her up for a few hours there was always someone in the pen with the dogs and we were always greeted by a super happy dog and at least one owner and most times both. When we picked her up for our drive back to California she was so tired she pretty much slept both days and was still tired when we got home. She had played so hard it was awesome! Thank you so much Steve and Rebecca we greatly appreciate your service and wished you were closer so we could take Izzy there more often. Super friendly staff. We were worried because our 3 month old puppy had never been boarded before and she is super submissive around other dogs, but she did great. It was nice that the rooms didn't have too many kennels and so I don't think it was too noisy or intimidating for our little girl. It was very nice to be able to pick her up in the morning and drop her off at night as we were on vacation, but staying at a house that didn't allow pets. She was even excited to see the staff when we brought her back. Definitely would recommend highly. read more

We were extremely disappointed with our pet's experience at The Dog House. First, upon check-in, I told the employee that I would not be able to pick-up our dog until 2:00pm on Saturday. She said fine, just be here by 5:30pm or there will be an additional charge. When I picked up our dog, I was told I needed to pay an additional $40 because of "daycare" since I was picking up my pet "late." When I said that I was never told of the additional charges upfront, the response from the owner was that I was "wrong." So much for the customer always being right!!! The bottom line is that we paid $140 for 45 hours of care --- outrageous. Second, our dog was not fed according to our instructions. I made four prepared bags of food for each of her meals. When checking out I was told there was additional food and sure enough, she was never fed Friday evening. Obviously, there is no personal attention paid to a customers' instructions. Finally, the staff was generally rude and impersonal. When I asked how our dog did while being boarded, I was curtly told "she howled." Well, she is a beagle, so duh. However, our dog rarely howls and I have not heard a peep from her since she returned from her traumatic experience two days ago. Bottom line: we had a bad experience and I would encourage pet owners to conduct more research on a suitable kennel for your dog. This was our first and last visit to this establishment. The subject of boarding is always a source of stress for both myself and my Sassy. I always worry about making the right decision when choosing a facility. It is with great relief that I write this review-because I know I definitely made a great choice! All of the employees seemed to have a genuine love for the animals. A major plus, especially with my high maintenance baby :). The pictures were right on of what the facility looked like. The place was obviously well-kept and clean. Upon pick up, she didn't act nervous, scared, or frantic. That was such a relief because I know she was given attention and taken care of. In fact, from the updates and reports I received--I think she was quite spoiled during her time at The Dog House and got a few belly rubs! We have a 10 month year old lab/border collie mix and took him to The Dog House for his first doggy daycare and overnight boarding experience. He seemed to like it and we were told that his behavior was great. Yay! The location is perfect for people coming into or driving out of Breckenridge - which is key for ski season. It is $30 for all day care and then just $5 more for an overnight stay with pickup by 9am. We decided to go white water rafting for the day on our vacation in Summit County (our family has a house in Keystone), and I wasn't sure how long we were going to be so I wanted to put our dog in day care for the day so he wasn't locked up at the house. Options are pretty limited in this area, but luckily someone recommend The Dog House to me. We weren't sure if we were going to be back by closing, and I didn't want to leave my dog overnight, so I was really relieved when the owner offered "late pick-up" for a small fee. We ended up making it back before closing, but the option still put my mind at ease. My dog is crate trained, so I didn't mind that he was crated during "rest time" (2 hours around lunch time). He was so exhausted from playing all day when we picked him up that he was probably grateful for the nap :) Also, the fact that it's in the middle of a business park didn't bother me at all. There are still nice indoor and outdoor play areas. Where would you prefer it to be? In LA (where I live) my favorite doggie day care is literally in a warehouse. Anyway, $30 for the day is very reasonable, especially since we dropped him off right when they opened and picked him up about 5 minutes before they closed! I could tell he had a great time, and if I ever need to put him in day care again when we are in Summit County, I know where to go! read more

NEVER leave your dogs at the dog house. Angry and hostel owners with no customer service skills. Never mindful or accommodating. My dogs come home filthy after just daycare. Spent lots of money here, never learned my name, never a thank you. They Never answer the phone. If you're one minute late after they close, they won't stay, they leave and charge you for the night. Picked up my dogs one time and the owner was sleeping and seemed disoriented, didn't know my dogs names. My dogs were NOT getting any attention. We left our Polly while we went to Aspen and we will be using The Dog House anytime we have to go somewhere and not able to take her. The Dog House went above our expectations. I made reservations for a one week stay with the Dog House prior to arriving in Breckenridge from Phoenix. I did not realize that the facility did not allow a customer to enter at any time any part of the facility except the very small entrance area. No areas of the dog housing or other dog areas were visible from the entrance. This lack of transparency was remarkable from the perspective of the openness of other numerous dog kennels I have bordered my pets. The other kennels were proud to provide access to their facility. My concern was further heightened when picking up the dog for his daily stay with me, my companion counted 14 dogs within a few minutes being moved to a small open air enclosure consisting of metal dog cages. Two days subsequent to picking up my dog at the weeks end, he started a wracking cough resulting in expectorating a white slimy material. At times the wracking cough was so severe that he regurgitated part of his food. Instead of completing another weeks stay with friends in Durango, I immediately drove back to Phoenix to his regular veterinarian. My dog was diagnosed with kennel cough. One week after leaving the kennel, I received an email stating that kennel cough contagion was at the Dog House. The notification delay and the downplaying in the email of potential serious effects on dogs of kennel cough was unconscionable. I caution anyone thinking of making a reservation at the Dog House to adamantly insist on a facility inspection as part of their reservation. I also advise that the facility contagion protocol be provided to all prospective customers. If one does not exist, the Dog House should contract with a professional to develop one. read more

We came to the dog house last week, got to meet the owners and take a tour. As a veterinarian I was amazed at how beautiful this facility is! The dogs get individual attention and have plenty of space to play, even in bad weather (they have a large ventilated indoor space in additional to their outdoor space). They even have different rooms to separate dogs based on their size and behavior, so that dogs with anxiety or special needs are still not left out of socialization and play time. I will definitely be bringing my 3 dogs here when I finally have time for a vacation! read more
