She asked if my senior dog had been boarded before and I said yes, explaining that I travel around the country and board my dogs quarterly and send them to daycare monthly. She was clear that they have phased out accepting senior dogs who haven't been their clients. She also said I needed several days of daycare to assess temperament. It sounds like there may be some disconnects between this company's policies and what their reps say. This can probably be remedied with some training. I appreciate the kind response from the business owner (+1 star for that) and wish Friends of Toto all the best as they get the communication issue with prospective clients sorted.

The orientation, which cost nearly $50, felt like a waste of time. I was treated like a beginner and walked through the basics of how to use a clicker and give a dog a treat. I understand people need instruction, but this could've easily been covered in 10 minutes, especially for someone who has common sense. The bigger issue, however, is their 60-day expiration policy on class packages. I only got to attend two classes before my package "expired" on December 9th. I reached out on December 30th after being unable to sign up for a class and was told that they only extend passes for medical reasons (illness or injury). When I asked if they could extend my package by 60 days (since I clearly missed the fine print), I was essentially told no. Instead, they offered me the option to pay more money to upgrade to a "Great Dog Flex Pass." Here's the kicker: I was trying to sign up for classes, but many were already booked 2-3 weeks out, and the remaining spots were only available if someone canceled, with 24-hour notice. So, with a busy schedule it is tough to plan around that. When I asked for an extension I was told "Our expiration dates are clearly stated on the website and displayed by our scheduling system each time you sign up for a class." Fine, but if you're running a small local business, wouldn't you want to keep a customer coming back, especially after they've already spent so much money with you? I was just looking for a little understanding and flexibility, but instead, I felt like I was being nickel-and-dimed. Very disappointed with my experience and will not be returning. If you're looking for a place that values its customers and operates with a little empathy, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Phil's styling and scissoring is second to none. Dogs by Design Pet Salon is immaculate. I highly recommend Phil, and Dogs by Design Pet Salon, so much so that I probably pass by 50 or more pet salons, on my two hour drive to have our dog groomed by Phil, at Dogs by Design Pet Salon.

Heidi is very nice and you can tell she really loves the dogs, which is super important to me. Bowser is having a great time and learning to be social. When he is older I would trust them to do daycare and other classes/ events. A great place!

They are also a small boutique, but I didn't shop. (The selection is fairly small.) My review is based on the grooming. The space is neat and organized. It smells good inside. The staff is friendly. There are lots of add-ons: I chose specialty cut & the details (teeth brushing, nail filing) which did Drive up the price. ($45 became $71) I will probably not do the extra details every time, but I do love that it only took 1.5 hours vs 3 or more at other places. This also means that they conditioned and brushed out her legs instead of shaving them for her schnauzer cut. My dog was tired but happy when I picked her up... and very proud of herself! Some things to keep in mind: Wednesday is their only long day and the latest grooming appt is 5pm. I booked my next one two months in advance. Tips are cash or check only! When you search for cat grooming in my home city of Pawtucket, they are the first ones that come up. When I called to confirm that they also specialize in cat grooming, they said they did. I wanted to give small business a chance, and not keep bringing my beloved kitty to PetCo. Well, I'll be going back to PetCo, I guess. Not having a place to keep cats at all and no way to deal with them on the premises whatsoever, they kept my cat locked up in his cat carrier for 1.5 hours before even trying to groom him. We know this because 1.5 hours after we dropped him off, they called to say that they could not begin grooming him because he was not cooperating. Of course he wasn't. They had just left him in a tiny cat carrier for an hour and a half. We felt leary about leaving him there when they said to just leave him in the completely abandoned front room, where no staff at all was, in his cat carrier, and to just come and get him later. But we thought maybe we were being overprotective, and we did leave him. We now wish we never had, and feel really guilty for subjecting our cat to Puppy LaPeu's absolutely horrendous treatment. Really, we should have known to never ever trust these people when they couldn't even get their stuff together enough to have their correct address on their own website (or in any of their online business listings). They are not at 91 Power Road as their website says. They have moved to Smithfield Avenue. They did not inform us of this on the phone when we made an appointment. If it had not been for the wonders of smart phones and the ability to look their number up on the internet when their business location was not where their own website said it was, we never would have found them. That probably would have been for the best.
