I've been going to the Dog Stop for nearly fifteen (15) years, and can honestly say that they have some pretty damn good food. While they are known for their hot dogs, they also happen to make an excellent combo (italian beef & sausage). The reason I'm not giving them five stars is simply because they are a "fast food" restaurant. Now, in regard to the Sun-Times article that has been previously mentioned. I think this article does an injustice to the both the owners and the restaurant by labeling them as "filthy". The fact of the matter is that the Dog Stop is kept EXTREMELY clean. I know for a fact that it is scrubbed down every night after closing, as I've come in late several times and have seen them doing so. As far as the health code violations go, the inspector that cited & shut down the restaurant is also the same one who closed down the McDonalds at 2350 N. Central and M&M Mars on Oak Park avenue. While I can't speak for McDonalds, I've toured M&M Mars and also have family that works there. That place is IMMACULATE to say the least. Would you stop eating M&Ms, Snickers, or Mars bars because of this? I think not! This was nothing more than an overzealous City Inspector on a power trip over minor violations. And the fact that this same inspector allowed them to reopen is proof that the restaurant is clean and violation free. If you don't believe me, then believe the multitude of Chicago Police Officers that can be seen eating there on a regular basis. If the food was that bad and the place that dirty, would they still be eating there? read more

I must say that this is the last place you want to go to!!! You might of go to White Castle and get your moneys worth!! I ordered a Gyro...without a meal! and the young lady who worked on 09/22/2015 @ 11:30 pm who was working the drive thru and you know who you are was as B!tc%! As I was going into my wallet she was pounding her fingers on the counter as I was wasting her time or she was leaving her shift and wanted to get rid of me!!! The Gyro sandwich was so NOT filled with meat I was about to take it back and ask for a refund!!! But, since it was to go, I didn't notice till I got home!!! The Gyro sandwich was so upsetting that the sauce they gave me was the size of a half dollar size coin and the meat was as small as half the size of the pita!!!! REALLY...the meat should have been hanging out of the pita and NOT the pita composite the meat!!! This is the worse GYRO sandwich that the CITY of CHICAGO has to serve!!!! Don't bother!!! You might of gotten a better meal at McDonald's or like I said White Castles for half the price!!!! read more

I have two words for anyone looking to try Dog Stop: FRY PAN. Outside of the fry pan, this place is just your regular hot dog, cheeseburger, gyro, pizza puff joint. And that would probably warrant only 2 stars. However, the fry pan elevates the overall rating by at least one star. What is the fry pan you ask? It's nothing short of a culinary miracle. It starts off with an aluminum pan, with the base covered with fries, these fries are next drowned in cheese and then covered with ground beef. The ground beef is then covered with a layer of thinly sliced gyro meat. Said gyro meat is then covered by another layer of fries, which are drowned in more cheese, and then covered with BBQ sauce. Now I get mine with cucumber sauce on the side. Dump it all in there, and for the next 10 minutes your taste buds will throw their little arms up in the air and yell "Weeeeeeeeee!!!!" read more

Ok, I've been going here pretty much all my life. It's a neighborhood joint, ya know? It's great for what it is: greasy, not-good-for-you fast food, and it doesn't try to sell anything different. BUT, over and over again they keep getting my order wrong. I like their tacos but only with meat and cheese and every other time I order it, comes with everything on it, so they're clearly not actually reading the paperwork most of the time. My point is, check your food if you have a special, non-standard order because there's a good chance they were only half paying attention to it. I don't even know what to rate this because like I said, I love it, but the constant carelessness is really dragging it down. Being in the building trades for 25 years we know all of the best hot dog joints in the city. The Dog Stop is more than just a hot dog kind of place, it has great soup and chili, the best beef sandwich I have ever had, even great salads. Try the grilled chicken sandwich, good hot and slightly greasy fries (just the way you like them), gyros, well anything actually, because I have always had a great meal when I go there.
