The coffee is spot on, didn't get any this visit but I've gotten it a few times before. Prices are crazy low and the food is great. I got the steak sandwich and spinach empanada. Honestly the sandwich was really good, I wouldn't mind some mayo on it but it was really good regardless. Empanada went down smooth and was really soft. The edges were harder but still soft which is impressive to say the least. The staff had exceptional service. Highly recommend this place. I have ordered from this location a few times. The steak, egg and cheese sandwich with a café con leche has become a go to order here. I appreciate that you can do alternate milk while keeping the consistency of flavor of the coffee. Just be aware that parking is limited and it is located on a busy intersection, but overall it is worth the hassle to stop by for a meal here. read more

Love that this place is close to the house but it took me so long to stop by! I only got a cafe con leche and 1 empanada so my review is only based on that. I do plan on returning to try their sandwiches and other menu items! Also parking is limited but I was able to find street parking no problem. Their parking lot is tiny. It was very lively when I walked in. The whole place was still decorated for halloween but it was great. I can tell this place is a neighborhood fav. I used to live in Miami so the first time I tried this place a few years ago, it was really nostalgic and really friggin good! My go-to was the steak sandwich and a pastelito de guava con queso (guava turnover pastry). What I liked about them, apart from the quick food that hit the spot was the prices. They were incredibly affordable for what you got which made coming back again and again worth it. My parents moved from the area, so I'm not always around to patronize the space to my dismay. But I did do a detour and paid them a visit. Service was still quick. Prices had gone up a bit, but that's expected in today's climate. And while the food was still enjoyable (again I did get the steak sandwich for my friend and this time tried their chicken guava sandwich) it did seem the quality was slightly lowered, particularly of the meat and how it was cut/shaved and used in the sandwiches. Could have been a slightly off day for the BOH, it could be cutting costs, or it could have always been this way I just haven't been in so long to remember...whatever the circumstance it wasn't quite enough to dock them a star and I'll still come back. In my personal opinion, their pastelitos are legit the best in Chicago (traditional, flaky, golden, nice ratio of cheese and guava...heaven!) and they remind me of those in Miami where you can find on everyone street corner. read more

Solid franchise and cheap! Definitely very comparable to Porto's (in the west coast). My fiancé and I had the guava and cheese pastillo, iced cafe con leche, churros (plain), guava chicken bbq sandwich, cubano, tamales raja, and empanada (pork/chicken). For all of these, we spent $40 which is not bad for the amount we got. The churros and empanadas were mid. However, the star of the show was the cubano, guava and cheese pastillo, and tamales! Definitely would go again for these. There was a line but we were able to order and get our food quickly. The place looks small but there's actually space in the back. If you're in a hurry, maybe order ahead for a quick in and out. There's parking and you can certainly park in nearby street parking too. read more

The steak sandwich was nicely spiced and bit a sour which worked well altogether. The bread was well toasted and there was a good portion of meat in each sandwich. The food also came out really fast and probably within five minutes! The only downside is that we sat by the window sill which was under the AC and by the time we got to eat our second half of the sandwich, it ended up being super cold. read more

Ordered a coffee to go. The lady on her phone took 15 min for a simple cafe con leche. My coffee was ready her on her phone and very interesting chisme she forgot she made my coffee. Management needs to address the cell phone usage and not make people wait for their order and have customers ask if their order is ready when it's been ready. We just moved down the street from this cafe and are already obsessed! It's super cute inside, the staff is excellent, but most of all the food is fantastic! I grew up in Florida with a large Cuban influence and oh how I've missed the food. We've been 3 times in the last month and I imagine we will keep it up. Couldn't recommend it more! EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! I wish i lived closer so i could eat here more often! They have a steady flow of customers but are fast with the food and everything we had was amazing! I even went back for 6 more churros after tasting 1!
