The food here is good but it is not amazing. Every time we have eaten here we have gotten everything we have expected and nothing more. We usually hit this place up for a Gyro...the Gryro's are good. And when I say good they are what we have come to expect from a Chicago fast food place...Pita...pressed meat...onions...tomatoes and sauce! At this moment, life can not get any better then this!!! But it does not stop my world...I do not go out of my way to come here. I am not impressed with the fries...I wish they were better...this place does treat the fries like a throw away. There is plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside...plus there is a big parking lot. You will not have to pay a parking meter. The only reason im giving it a two star instead of one is because the manager actually seemed like she cared to listen to what i had to say about the gyros i purchased. I purchased the grilled chicken sandwich meal. asked for a bottle of water instead of the pop and he still charged me for it even though i never took the soft drink... i love their chicken sandwich even though it was a little sloppy but delicious garlic sauce. The gyros had a rotten smell to it. i noticed how he cut it and threw it on a flattop grill. i think there was something else on that grill that wasnt scrapped good. gave my gyros the nastiest smell ever! the manager saw that i havent touched my sandwich and i explained to her. she was nice enough to give me a $5 certificate for my next visit. ill probably use it towards the chicken sandwich though... read more

Today is September 4, 2020 and at 1:25pm I went through the drive thru and had a ride experience with the person at the window. I mentioned to her that the last time I had been there a hot dog was missing from my order. I wasn't trying to get a free hot dog, I was just mentioning it so they acknowledge it and realize they have to be more careful with peoples order because not everyone has the time to go back and get their missing items when I expected them to be in my bag. Disclaimer 1: I try to avoid writing reviews of places I have not been to recently as places can change over time. I am making an exception here. Disclaimer 2: I am writing this review not only to give my opinion of this place but to respond to these blatant recent attempts to recover from the recent article written about them. I have not been here in two years first of all. The food here is decent. It is a good short order place and the chili in the bread bowl was my favorite! The place never seemed too unkempt and the service was always consistent. However... The recent Sun Times article alone would not have kept me away from this place in the future. All restaurants will have some sort of violations at any given time. I will tell you this that I know someone who used to be a health inspector in Du Page County and they do not shut down restaurants for minor infractions that can be quickly rectified. It must have been very serious for them to have been shut down. Management is given ample time to correct any kinds of violations. The last five reviews of this place convinced me to never go back here. These were obvious attempts to get their rating back up here on Yelp and try to save face. It would have really impressed me if the owner came on here, came clean about her ownership status and wrote an apology and assured us that steps were being taken to correct the problems and putting systems in place to be sure that they don't happen again. That would have been the right way to handle it. This cheap method that was taken will permanently tarnish my view of this place. Because I live in the area and had a coupon from the coupon book for a buy one get one free Italian beef, I figured that me and the family would check out our neighborhood restaurant. To my surprise, we should've walked out the door after the lady who was taking our order couldn't figure out how to process the coupon. Umm, "manager please"? Nope, not in. What did she do? She gave us back the coupon & said sorry. Problem was, our food was in the process of being made already. On top of that, we asked for cheesy cheddar beefs, and I guess we got provolone on our sandwiches(which were dry & we asked for juicy) FINALLY, our order was ready, and the kids meal was missing the order of fries. What a horrible first time experience. A few words of advice: Please, get someone at the register who knows how to process a coupon your company is running. Coupons are designed to allow a person to sample your restaurant for half the price, but after sampling the incompetency of the staff, I feel like even with a coupon, this restaurant is just not worth my time OR money. Kinda disappointed. This was my first time going for something different here. A hamburger with Swiss cheese plain. I checked my order when the woman at the window was running my card and noticed it had the wrong cheese on it. Told her and she said let me see and took it back in. The burger looked good minus the wrong type of cheese. The girl was apologetic and nice when she handed me my correct order. I went on down the street and took a bite and instantly noticed the specks of yellow American cheese residual mixed among the Swiss cheese. It was minimal and not really a big deal. What my main disappointment was that when the melted American cheese was removed Swiss cheese was added, in the course of them trying to melt the Swiss, it charred the burger pretty bad. I would have been happy waiting a little longer and moving forward to have a new burger prepared to avoid the over cooking. I understand they were really busy at the time as the car in front of me had what seemed like a fairly large order. Also with COVID, for sanitation reasons, taking food back that had already been with me in my car doesn't seem like the best idea. Here it is average at best. Dogs average, burgers barely average. With a gazillion of these type of spots in Chicago you better come packing heat or not at all. They come with a squirt gun. I have eaten at this establishment lots of times and the food is always good. Today however I visited the Dog stop and placed an order. The first thing I ordered was a hot dog no relish and fries the meal deal and then I ordered a beef meal so I could use my coupon and get a free beef ( you needed to order fries and a drink for the promotion) I also ordered two pizza puffs and two orders of cheese fries and an additional coke. I got home and my hot dog meal was missing as well as my fries that went with my beef. I called back and when I spoke to the young woman who answered I was told that I didn't order what I ordered and that she highly doubted that I was missing my fries and I stood on hold while she waited to get clearance for them to give me the hot dog I ordered. Long story short I won't be ok'ing back I had to drive back to get my food minus the fries I also paid for because she highly doubted that they were forgotten. Girls on the drive thru are very friendly. They work hard and fast, I can tell because I usually always place a big order of hot dog and fries and I only wait about 4 minutes. I hate placing large orders on the drive thru like that but they are just so fast! It's always fresh too because when I get home the sausage of my hot dogs are soft and steaming hot! A hot dog stand with a drive thru could be quite an awesome place, especially one with the extended hours they feature, which makes it very convenient for me. They also have Gyros, which I say is another plus. The horrible downside of The Dog Stop is their fountain system. The drinks are absolutely AWFUL! Yucky poo poo Dog Stop! You can do better than this! I've occasionally gone to very inconvenient lengths to avoid going here just because of the fountain beverage situation.
