I spoke to Mike and found that this business was indeed local- not just a local number with dispatched random technicians. I called Saturday and the repair was done by Mikes grandson Monday. He was very nice, did great work and it was at reasonable price. Garage door is working flawlessly and we now have a sticker on the wall of the garage so we know who to call when this older opener gives up! Until then, all is well. After calling company to schedule, Drew showed up promptly and repaired everything I needed at a very fair price! He was pleasant to deal with, answered all my questions and it couldn't have gone more perfectly! He also fixed a serious issue with the header piece also which possibly saved serious injury had it broken the way we had it. I spent less than I expected too which is nice! Our 23 year old garage door opener decided to start operating on its own. We wanted to stay local so called Doorman and Son. Drew arrived when he said he would and replaced our opener quickly. We had some issues with the new opener. Both Mike and Drew came out to assess the situation. They decided that the opener was defective and replaced it. I dented the bottom panel of my garage door backing my car into the garage. I originally scheduled two other Portland metro area companies to give me bids in replacing the label, because of the Yelp reviews for The Door Man. One company didn't show up in the 4-hour window I waited. The other called me the night before my appointment to see if it was "worth the drive." That guy did help me figure out that I wouldn't be able to replace a single panel because the manufacturer no longer makes any garage doors. But that was 4 days after I scheduled the appointment. Mike stopped by my house today after I contacted him through his website yesterday. He was prompt, quickly made my door functional again (still dented, but he popped the roller back in and confirmed it was opening/closing properly) and he charged me nothing! I suggested swapping the panel for the one on our third door that we don't use, but he said we'd be better off saving the $250 until we're ready to replace the door. We have used Mike for a number of years and he always did a good job. Last Sunday he and his wife made a special trip because the door was not operating. The building is owned by a nonprofit and any expense over $500 must be approved by the Board and approval may take several days. A written bid is required!! Mike and his wife were told this. The style, color or type of material were never discussed. Mike also said that the opener motor needed replacing as it was 'past its due date'. We were verbally quoted $4,000. No written estimate. Monday morning Mike called and said the door was on order and would arrive Friday. We were told that is was wood grain metal. This type of door would be totally unacceptable considering the design of the house. I called and told him that we had to have a written bid and Board approval. He got very upset and complained about how he had made a special trip on a Sunday, which he did, had done good work in the past, he had, and didn't like dealing with Boards. Sorry, but that is the way things works with a nonprofit. I had a contractor that I have known for over 30 years look at the door this afternoon. He said that the sensors needed cleaning, a few of the wheels squeaked and there was a bolt missing in a brace. Other than that, the door was fine. He also thought that the 5hp motor in the opener was just fine. When I called Mike with this information and that we did not want a metal door, he became abusive and hung up. I called Mike around 11:00am with a broken overhead door spring. He said a technician would by by to look at it in the afternoon. The tech called about 1:15pm with a 30 minute arrival time. He showed up on on time, evaluated the problem, gave a reasonable quote, and did the repair since he had a spring on the truck with him. Evan was courteous, professional and timely with the repair. He also lubricated the carriage wheels and took extra time to evaluate the overhead motor and drive. The actual invoice was the same as his verbal quote. I am also a local business owner contractor the appreciates people that take pride in their work. I will recommend them to my customers as well use them again for my own projects if needed. read more

I had a great experience with this company. Evan arrived well under an hour of my call. He fixed all my problems with batteries, sensors, and tracks, and patiently answered my questions. I asked him about a new system, and he gave me lots of information but did not begin any high pressure sales. Awful. I called one week ago, he informed me that he needed to call the homeowner and get permission. No problem, except he didn't call him. I called Mike again, and the homeowner called him for me. Said ok he would be here today. Showed up and refused to work because there is a truck stuck in the garage, he had more than enough space to do what he needed to do to replace the spring. He was rude and impatient. He informed me that he wouldn't replace the spring until I moved the truck out of his way. He suggested that I lift the garage door myself (I'm 100lbs ) and move the truck myself. Just a jerk all around. I assume a spring replacement wasn't worth the time and effort for him. So I wasted several hours waiting on him while I could have had another company come do the work. read more

Called Mike to replace a very old garage door opener and spring. He said our spring didn't need to be replaced even though the inspector said it did. One week later the spring broke and our solid wood garage door came crashing down. He came and replaced the spring. Flash forward 3 months we called him back out to add a second garage door opener. Appointment was scheduled for 9am. He called at the last minute to reschule 1pm. He was 45 min late to that appointment. He installed the open but did NOT bring the spring to the second door that I SPECIFICALLY told him to replace over the phone when scheduling..he said he would have to come back in 2 days to replace the spring he had to "find it". Appointment time was again for 9am. He calls again at the last minute to say he is going to be an hour late. How do you stay in business like this??? Just got off the phone with Mike, 2 days past the day he told me he would repair my garage door. He was very defensive and unprofessional about why he hadn't done the repairs, (various excuses about a callback and worried about not getting paid) When asked if he was still interested or if I should call somebody else...he says, "call somebody else" Quick fuse on this one..beware! read more
