I needed minor adjustment on my garage door. I got 3 different companies in mind to fix it. First one wanting exorbitant fee just to come and estimate. Second one would come 2 days later. Nic got in touch with me the next day, and he said he'd come right away. He found what was wrong with the door, made the adjustment, and it runs smooth once again. Of course he got service call fee, he was upfront with it, and it's reasonable, and that's exactly what he charged me. I have read some bad reviews about Nic, but I can understand how hard it is working with a crew of one. I am satisfied with his ability to fix it. read more

Garage door cable slipped off and door needed alignment. Nic aligned the lift cables and tightened the door spring. Door is now quieter than ever and works great. Nic was the first of four bids to respond and was able to come over the next day. I chose DGE because the price was in-line with the others but had a tighter variance, his willingness to come the next day, and he accepts credit card. Nic showed up earlier than anticipated and was communicative the entire time. The work was perfect to get our door working again and I would use this company in the future for those reasons. The reason I deducted stars- Nic did not have the appropriate springs, even though I sent him all of the specs beforehand, so he needed a second trip. The second item relates to payment. I wanted to use my credit card and his page states he accepts credit cards, but did not accept at the time of payment. I had to eat a fee to use my card through Venmo. read more

I cannot recommend Garage Door Excellence. I had scheduled an appointment to have Nic come over on Friday to fix my garage door, five days after making the appointment. Nic messaged me about an hour before he was due to arrive to tell me that he had a flat tire and would have to reschedule. Now I'm sure he was able to service his later appointments that day once he got his tire fixed. He should have called his customers scheduled that day to let them know he'd be an hour or so late because be had suffered a flat tire, which pushed all his service calls, including mine, out. Instead, what does he do, be cancels my appointment and let's me know that he'll have to reschedule me to the next day and tells me he'll arrive between 9 - 10 a.m. Saturday he calls me to tell me he'll arrive in 45 minutes, close to 10 a.m. I wound up missing the opportunity to go paddling on the coast Saturday because he didn't keep his commitment on Friday and didn't arrive Saturday until near the tail end of the appointment window. It took him all of 10 minutes to fix the garage door. There's no reason why he couldn't have come on Friday. I owned a wedding photography business years ago, and when I scheduled appointments with wedding parties, I kept my commitments. I couldn't very well tell the bride and groom to reschedule their wedding because I had a flat tire and couldn't make it on time to shoot their wedding. I wouldn't have been in business very long. I would have rented a vehicle if I had to so I could have made my wedding shoots if that's what it took to make the client happy. You do what you have to, even if that means working late, to keep your commitments. Nic did not do that. He felt that he could just blow me off Friday, pretty much ruining my Saturday plans. read more

Nic is the man! The torsion spring broke on my garage door last night and I needed it fixed right away. I looked online and found some garage door repair companies, some of which were VERY fishy because Elite, Plus, and Stanley are all the same companies that when you call them all are sent to the same "dispatcher." Very sketchy. I found Nic and called him at 7 PM and he was very friendly, and gave me a rough quote over the phone, which happened to be just what he charged me. He said he was finishing up a job, but called me back and arrived just when he said he would. He arrived at 8:45 PM with good eye contact and a nice handshake. For my particular application (standard late 90's townhouse) it was $125 TOTAL to install a single torsion spring, and I opted to have the 3 bearings that support the cable drum replaced as well which ran $75. He was very honest and his prices were fair. He took the time to explain what he was doing and he wasn't in a rush despite the fact that it was so late. I have never written a 1 star rating before... I called Nic b/c he is literally 4 blocks from my house, and I figured it would be great to support a very local business. Nic came out to fix the gaps in our garage door. Roots had raised the center of our garage floor, and there was a 1 to 1 1/2" gap from the sides to the center of the floor. Nic said he could cut triangles to fix the gaps, and put on a new weather seal for 200 - 250 bucks. It was right in line with what I thought. On the scheduled day ( 1 week later ) he texted and said his saw was broken. I offered him mine to do the job. He declined and said he would get his saw fixed and would be out the next day. The next day he said he could not make it again, and wanted to come the following day. I should have just cancelled, but being so close to my house, I gave him another chance. When he came to the house, his saw was still broken... He ended up using my 10 year old skill saw. He truly did a poor and rushed job, and charged me 225 bucks. There are still 1/2" gaps at the bottom of my garage door. I could have done a better job myself, but trusted a professional to do it. Be wary if he cancels on you the first time. Our garage door had broken a cable and wedged in an open position about two thirds shut. This was the third nasty thing to happen in the past month, so money is tight. I called Nic bright and early Monday morning and he checked his schedule, then told he could be here to fix it by 1:30 PM today. He called me 2 hours later and told us he was running ahead of schedule and asked if 11:15 AM would be okay with us. We were elated! It's now 12:10 PM in the afternoon, he's done and we can do what we needed to do because of his efficiency! He also gave us an estimate on what else should be done with this 1953 door. Nic was truly amazing. Called him on a Saturday when our garage door suddenly stopped working, after being in our new home less than a month. He was able to come out the following Monday (a holiday). Gave us a 2 hour window but was able to come early (And texted first). He was professional and quick. Even added a pull string and oiled everything up, and did it for $25 less than what we were thinking! Even went over all our options (including replacement) since the opener was original to the house (16 years) but made sure to say that the part he replaced could possibly last another 16 years! (So nice to deal with someone who would rather tell you the honest truth, than someone who will tell you anything to get a sale). I called Nic in the evening and requested an estimate for installing our new garage door opener and he was able to come to our home the following day. When I originally contacted them, I asked if I sent him a pic of my existing garage door, could he give me a rough / ball park estimate to replace my garage door? He agreed!!! I didn't really want to take the time to meet someone for an estimate; I was trying to move forward quickly. He communicated via text and email, and got me a rough estimate very quickly.
