Coming around the Cabot Trail from Ingonish today we kept seeing signs from The Doryman Pub & Grill. After seeing the signs for so many kms I had to try this place out! We got there and heard that they had live music tonight and the atmosphere looked really interesting. We sat at the bar because most of the tables were reserved. After sitting down we were basically ignored for the next 5 minutes. Bartender finally came and asked us what we wanted to drink and slowly brought us our drinks and menus. I think if we sat at the tables the service would have been better. Poor couple beside us got their drinks and were ignored and eventually left. The food was nothing to write home about. After all the hype it was kinda a flop. Would choose somewhere else next time. read more

We were in town for just one night so looked at the local places to eat and drink in the area. We decided to come here after dinner since it said the band started at 9 pm. We walked over from Laurie's Inn at 9:20 and were hit with a $10 pp cover charge sign at the front door. It never said anything on their website about a cover charge. We just wanted to listen to some music and have a drink and we were told by some locals to come here. We were very disappointed and just walked back to our hotel. It would have been nice to know ahead of time that they were charging $10 pp cover. read more

Stopped here for lunch while driving the Cabot Trail. Walked in and there were a group of musicians sitting around a table playing traditional fiddle music. So good. However the food did not live up to the vibe. My wife had the fish cakes and coleslaw. I had the chowder and mussels. The fish cakes were mostly potato and the coleslaw was generically tasteless. The chowder was a bit glutinous. In the cup I had, the advertised shrimp and scallops were missing. The mussels were fresh but overcooked and rubbery. The sauce was served in a plastic cup on the side which I thought odd. The service though is very friendly. read more

The Doryman was recommended to us when we flew into Halifax, they did not disappoint. They serve locally brewed beer and their menu serves from sirloin steaks to seafood platters. The service can be slow at times but you've got live music while you wait. We came in and ordered at the perfect time to get our food while the sun was setting. read more

We decided to visit the Doryman for the first time this past weekend for Kitchenfest and it was an amazing experience! The live music was excellent, as was the chicken wings and sweet potato fries! Our server was very kind and professional, and we had a great night listening to fiddle tunes! I would make sure to visit the Doryman every time I'm around Cheticamp moving forward. Stopped in the Doryman Pub based on reviews, was looking forward to some great seafood. We ordered the lobster roll and the Seafood Trio which consists of a crab cake, bacon wrapped scallops and chowder. The view is great as many have mentioned, sadly the food not so much. The lobster was definitely overcooked and on the small size considering the price. The crab cake seemed to be missing something, we both agreed it was the crab, mushy and no taste at all. The scallops were overcooked and the bacon almost burnt. As for the chowder, it was on par with the rest of the meal. Service was okay but waited forever for the check. read more

Wife & I had lunch here to fortify us for tackling the Skyline Trail. What a great local spot! Lola, the server, was covering all of the tables for most of our stay, & she was attentive & excellent throughout. We had lobster rolls that were fresh, succulent, & delish! The poutine was fabulous! The beer was local, the fish was amazing ( Haddock fish beer battered) and the fries were perfect for poutine. Neighborhood feel, with friendly staff. I wish I could find something like this in North Carolina. We had our pup with us so we couldn't stay for the music. I'm sure it was amazing. read more

Poor management. After waiting in a line outside, then inside for 30 minutes, we were greeted and checked in (Covid screening) and told there's a table ready for us. Just then the owner came over and said we're closed. I explained that we just drove all the way here, waited in line and the server is cleaning our table. He couldn't care less. It was now 8pm and everything nearby was closed, we would've had time to go elsewhere if they had told us when we arrived that we won't be able to eat there, We won't go there again. read more

We showed up 10 minutes before the kitchen closed after a long day of hiking and were welcomed with a smile, and the kitchen was happy to stay open for us. Fresh food, good beer selection and live music all at a very reasonable price. The house salad was a highlight. The chowder was easily better than some of the local restaurants that were priced much higher. Service was really friendly and she let us know about some local swimming hole secrets. We were sad it was our last night in Cheticamp because we would have come back again. It was my first trip to Cape Breton and they made me feel like a local. read more

This is a very nice venue for music performances. That is why I gave 3 stars. But the food was really awful- the crab cakes were tiny, dried out and stale tasting, the seafood chowder seemed to be off and smelled terrible, and the french fries seemed to be old leftovers that were clumped tougher in a fridge and then reheated! We were told we needed to leave after getting Our food because there was a ticketed concert and they needed our table . they were extremely rude about it and as we were leaving we found out the concert wasn't for another 3 hours but someone wanted Our table . I brought my teen boys here on a visit to Cheticamp. I wanted them to hear some local musicians while we had dinner. I was surprised and pleased to learn about how many things on the menu were home-made. One son had the fettucine alfredo with chicken and said the home-made sauce was very good. My other son had the home-made hamburger with the poutine, which he loved. My rib-eye steak was under $15 and tender and perfectly cooked. I chose the garden salad as a side and was offered two dressings - both home-made! It was delicious! We appeared to be the only visitors in this Wednesday evening but it was a great, local experience for the boys and I and the musicians, Glen and Nicole, played a great set. read more

Just stopped by for a beer with a few travel companions and got a pitcher of Alexander Keith red (cheaper than getting four glasses, and you end up with more beer too!). The place had a good mix of local and tourists and there was live music for some of the time (part of a festival we had no knowledge of, yet we were happy to find ourselves there). One of my friends relished listening to the locals converse in Arcadian. It looked like a good spot to grab some dinner, but I cannot testify to the quality of the food. This place is great. Not only do they have great food they have great people working there. I had pan fried haddock and a side salad ( which is hard to get while traveling) and it was all great. Not greasy at all. Fish was fresh and flaky. My husband had the chicken wings which were lightly hand breaded in house and were also great. Raven was our superb waitress and not only answered all our questions about the menu but explained Chase the ace. She also gave me a great suggestion for coffee to buy in market as I was having trouble with Tim Hortons. We highly recommend this place. read more
