They are open!! They've redone the outdoor area a little to make separate sections for people to sit and maintain distancing. They still have Christmas lights up but it's so cute, and I'm a sucker for twinkle lights, so I'm not complaining! Food and drinks available (food comes from the Mexican place across the street. My only complaint is I wish they had more outdoor heaters. We didn't have one by our table. It gets pretty chilly at night, and it'd be a bit more comfortable if they had more heaters. I absolutely used to love coming to this bar until this past friday night on the 10th. I went in with a group of friends looking to have a fun a night when the bouncer comes up to us and started accusing us of having fake IDs when all of us were of age. As someone who also works at bars, if you truly thought we were underage then why would you let us into the bar and then make our time inside uncomfortable? My drink was served in a plastic cup and because I was a buzzed I walked out with it without really thinking when he chases after me and takes it out of my hand to bring back inside. I apologized for taking it out and asked to finish it inside before i left and he refused to let me. It was a full drink. My friend was also still inside and had not stepped outside at all with her drink and he went up to her, grabbed her arm unprovoked, and just took it out of her hand and threw it away. I'm standing outside the bar at this point waiting for my friends to come out when he starts to mumble shit at me and my friends. I told him he was being disrespectful and he was being an ugly individual where he begins to mock all of us. He then blatantly tells us he's "racist" which obviously is going to upset people of color who have alcohol in their system and then calls us "sensitive" for being upset at the comment. My girl friends and I went there Friday night and had the WORST experience because of the security guards. First, we are all over 21. We are 23-24 and he approached us after we ordered our drinks and the (we don't know names so we will just describe them by ethnicity so the management can single down who was working) black security guard went up to us and started harassing us for being underage. My friend asked him "if you thought we were underage, why did you even let us in?" Regardless of that, being overage and discriminated against because we are a young group of girls at this establishment did not make us feel welcomed as guests. Afterwards, I was walking out and had my drink in my hand. The white bouncer PHYSICALLY grabbed my shirt, pulled me back and pushed me against the table. He then tried to grab my drink from me where I pushed him back and told him "let me finish my drink". He allowed me to finish my drink and then I told him "next time please don't put your hands on me" where he agreed that he should not have physically grabbed me as aggressive as he did. But still to have a security guard that comfortable with grabbing woman half his size in that aggressive of a manner is a red flag for any establishment. At the end of the night my friend started arguing with the black security guard who was giving her shit about being underage (even though she's over 21 and works as a bartender at another establishment), he took the drink from her that she just paid for (inside the building) and refused to give it back, he looked at her and blatantly said "it's because I'm racist". We are a group of Latina girls. THE SECURITY GUARD AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT ADMITTED TO HARASSING US, SINGLING US OUT, AND TAKING OUR PAID FOR DRINKS BECAUSE HE WAS RACIST. DO NOT GO HERE. I've been going to The Double Standard for years since I used to work off Telegraph. For many years they have their shot and beer combo. For $7 you can get a shot of tequila or bourbon with a modelo/can of beer. In addition to pretty tasty cocktails, they also have your favorite go to drinks. It was a nice place to go to after work or over the weekends. During First Fridays there usually is cover to get in. They both have indoor and an outdoor area. It's pretty hipster, nicely painted, a huge tree in the center and tons of lighting and seating. They used to have table seating and serving during the beginning of the pandemic when they opened up but their more back to just a bar inside, I haven't seen an outside bar. They have self service water at the side of the bar and they have some TV screens up. They don't really have a DJ but they have some good background music. There's usually a bouncer there checking for ID and vaccination. Parking isn't too bad, there's plenty of street parking off of Telegraph or you can park a little farther and walk. read more

The short version: paid cover, closed early. Bought drinks, bouncer threw them away. Got yelled at twice by two different bouncers. Long version: I've never felt so disrespected- by the staff! Came on NYE and there was a cover. Immediately heard the scratchy sound system, so I asked my date if he wanted to pay/stay. The bouncer rudely scolded us for talking next to the entryway, telling us to go back outside. The attendant was assisting someone else with his payment, so why are you barking at us like we're holding up the line? We're waiting our turn. We shook it off and decided to stay. Found a private table on the back patio to enjoy our drinks. About 10 mins after the midnight countdown, people start running away from the front area, crowding near us on the patio. One girl was crying, saying she felt unsafe. Were those gunshots or fireworks we heard? Then some random man asked me if I can scoot over so he could smoke his blunt. No, sir, you can't have my seat (?) Minutes later, the bouncer comes blazing at everyone to get out. Confused why they're closing so early, and not finished with my drink, I pull out my phone to call an Uber. The bouncer starts yelling at me. I let him know I'm calling my ride and he picks up the half finished drinks on our table. At this point I'm furious, I stand up and try to calmly address him. I put my hand out and said Happy New Year, I'm leaving, he yells, "DON'T TOUCH ME. I'm sick of this shit. Everyone get out!" Jesus man, are you kidding me? There's a whole bar full of people to escort out and you're harassing me as I try to get my ride lined up so I'm not standing in the street with all the people who are potentially shooting at each other?! We walk to the front and my date asks a different bouncer why they're closing early, he responds, "too many people fighting." Awesome. I had it bookmarked and was so excited to check it out. Was in the area for dinner one night and came across this cocktail bar when we saw the outdoor patio with nice lantern and christmas lights decor. We sat in the outdoor patio seating and it reminds me of a mini Christmas in the Park & Christmas petting zoo theme (lol because of the fences for social distancing). The huge tree is awesome. Got to be more than 800 years old. The decorations are cute and set the ambiance to be great for date night. PSA- Don't park on 27th especially on the block with the Subaru service shop especially if you are planning to go to Double Standard. My friend and I made the mistake of parking there and ended up getting our cars smashed and broken into along with a couple of other cars on the block. Just Uber or just park at a parking garage if you do end up going. I don't have much to review on Double Standard the actual bar as I was only there for a short moment and didn't order any drinks, but it seems pretty nice in there. There is a patio area, which we didn't get to check out as the outside air was a bit hazardous during the camp fires. Sitting outside on the patio under the fairy lights and looking up to the top of the HUGE Redwood tree makes this place fantastic. I was wary of the pre-mixed cocktails, but they were surprisingly good and less expensive than other options. I'd return in a heartbeat as long as the weather was pleasant and there was room to sit outside. I do think the outside area could be better utilized to fit more people, but it's also nice that it doesn't get too crowded. Sitting indoors, the place is less appealing. The decor and service are both "meh" and the drinks (with accompanying prices) are nothing you can't find elsewhere. But, the patio is magical and definitely worth a visit. read more

Take note there is a $5 cover, which is pretty reasonable. Parking is tricky so you may have to walk a bit. Outside area is huge with tons of seating, with space to isolate if desired. For god sake, spend the $10 to buy a new lock on the bathroom stall. Amazon that shit. It'll be there in 2 days. While you're at it, purchase a paper towel dispenser for the bathroom. They've been using some bullshit bar container they keep limes in for paper towels since before 2017 and the towels are always soaked with water. The sink is always clogged. Like wtf are you doing? I need a friend on a Friday night they guy at the door told us it would be about a ten min wait.. once your seated they have a picture of the rules and code to order from your phone . I am a non-binary person. I went to use the bathroom at the Double Standard and saw that one of the two bathrooms had a white triangle on it (made of electrical tape). Since this is the legally mandated sign of a gender-neutral bathroom, I assumed I could use this. When I entered, a bar back ran in yelling "Did a dude just go in there?" and then kept yelling at me to leave (which I did, promptly). If this was not a gender neutral restroom, they should remove the taped white triangle. And they should also note that under California law (Civ. Code § 51[b]), you have the right to use whatever bathroom facilities correspond to your gender identity. I will never go here again and I encourage other queer and trans people not to, either. (They have a lovely patio though.) read more

Super fun place, had this bookmarked for a while and finally got a chance to stop by for my birthday as a pitstop. Even on the weekend, they run happy hour specials- instant win win in my book! Parking is street and not too hard to find especially on a quiet weekend like Saturday! It's gorgeous inside and even better with a giant outdoor patio space in the back. A giant tree to hang around, barrels for tables, and some epic artwork along the fences! That's great for groups and inside, is better for smaller pairs. Fine selection and variety of liqours and beers on tap. Special tap cocktails are up on their board. The Henny Apple Soda caught my eye and in time for happy hour to end. It was deliciuos and I threw back two in a time span of 10 minutes. It had hennessy, applejack, lemon, apple cider, and bitters (10). Or you can get this by the pitcher for $45 which isn't a bad deal at all! They like doing pitchers here, lot's of variety for that. Happy hour is M-F from 4-7pm and Sat-Sun from 2-5pm. It's $1 off all tap beers, $1 off all wines, and $2 off all tap cocktails (expect first Fridays). It's clean inside and there's restrooms. It's definately a great hangout spot for friends to catch up, afterwork drinks. It looks better from the pictures than it does in person, but it's a chill space especially for DT Oakland. read more

Pre-COVID this place was poppin. We'd come here to pregame then bar hop around Telegraph. It's always good vibes here from the security guard, to the bartenders, and even the owner Ali is beyond relatable with all of the customers he comes into contact with. COVID made me fear that the bar was hanging by a thread, but they survived! Their patio was renovated to accommodate COVID guidelines and protocols and the staff members follow it to a T. Each table section has a QR code so you can place your order (food and drinks) without having to risk exposure between you and the server/bartender. If you need anything you can always get their attention and they're pretty attentive anyways. Parking can be a bit rough since you are on Telegraph, so expect a little walk. It's a great meet up spot, especially when the weather is favorable. They might still be doing a seating time limit, so just be understanding and respectful of the business. read more

They had Racer 5 IPA (my favorite ever) last time I was here, but not this time. BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! It's all good, there's a million IPA's out there, don't always expect them to have my favorite on hand. I've never been here late at night, I think 8pm is the latest I've ever been here, so I don't know if they blast music and become super crowded like a lot of other bars out there, so be warned. The best thing about this place is the back. They have backyard outdoor seating, with a large tree and a wood deck that makes you feel like you're out camping. Very relaxed atmosphere. In a city with lots of places that give you beer in exchange for money, little things like this really make a bar stand out among the rest. People will smoke cigarettes outside, so if you're sensitive to that stuff, you might want to go elsewhere. But other than that, I'd say this is my favorite place on the Telegraph strip to grab a drink or two after work. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Really disappointed to be writing this review because this is one of my favorite bars when I'm visiting oakland. My friends and I came in on first Friday, we got in with no problem and ordered our drinks. We were sat down and then the bouncer approached us accusing us of having Fake ID's when he was the one who LET US IN? So we asked him "would you like to see them again?" Because we were taken aback. But it's a little late considering we already have drinks. He tried to shrug us off saying "just forget about it, I know you're all under age". So we decided to leave because he was just pacing around our spot. On our way to the front he grabs my friends drink out of her hand without giving her a chance to finish it before we even left the building! It turned into a huge altercation outside of the bar and this bouncer was extremely rude. I don't understand why he would let us in if he thought we were under age, we offered to show id's AGAIN, and then he confiscated my friends drink with no explanation.
