I find it hard to believe this is the best groomer in downriver. Both times I have tried this groomer my shih Tzu came out looking awful. By awful I mean like a teen cut her with zero experience. The last time, I was 1/2 way down the block when I turned around and took her back. They gave my female shih-Tzu a mustache and a lopsided one at that. One side was a full inch longer. No one answered the door, so I called. A man came out to the parking lot, with a pair of scissors and cut the longer section, in the lot!! This is the service I got for $95 plus tip. Never again. I loved this groomer, when I first got my dog he was matted and they took care of him. I've never had his breed so I asked what the best comb was and got one. They wanted him back every 6-8 weeks at $75 a pop, which wasn't needed and I kept brushing. The inside of his ears got nicked this last time and I let them know, he started scratching on his face near his ears until it bled. I of course took care of him. But attached is the response I got when I let them know and thought a different groomer got him this last time. I'm very disappointed. My last call for an appointment I was rudely asked if he was matted. That should have been my sign to go elsewhere. To accuse someone of neglect... I'm floored. read more

I took my Lhasa Apso here for his first groom after I adopted him. The owner, Ashley, was on maternity leave. They told me over the phone it would be 55.00 for bath, nail trim and cut. When I came in to drop him off the man who was going to groom him changed it to 70.00 because he had some matted fur. This is a very small dog. I reluctantly agreed because I didn't want to wait to get in somewhere else. When I picked him up they had shaved him, not given him a cut. They hacked him up. When I picked my pup up he asked me if I knew what a hematoma was because he now had them on the inside of his ears from him shaving too close. He had sores on both ears where they were scraped up and also on his testicles. I had to take him to the vet who had to scrape off the scabs and put antibiotic ointment on them. I waited a few months since Ashley was on maternity leave to call and address this with her. She was very snippy and did not want to be held accountable for their actions. She said to me, "I'm looking at the record here and he was brought in with matted fur". I said, " so you're telling me it's my fault your employee hacked him up". She said, "yes, and if you wait too long to bring him in again the same thing could happen". I said, "well, I won't be bringing him back there ! " To which she said, " Good luck taking him somewhere else" and hung up on me ! These people do this for a living. They should know how to brush through mats in a dogs fur. I didn't take him in there to be shaved. They took the easy way out and instead of giving him a style cut just shaved it all off . It should have been cheaper not more expensive. And when they hacked him up the owner should have refunded my money plus the vet bill. You don't take your dog to a supposed professional to be traumatized. They should know how to do cuts, shaves, nail trims, etc without incident. I would definitely not recommend this place especially since the owner only cares about the money not the welfare of your pet read more

The owner is the rudest person I have ever come across. I am a person who never complains. I cancelled my dogs grooming appointment last week because I work and I could not get home in time for his appointment. I was considerate and called in plenty of time before the day of his appointment. I called today to reschedule. She proceeded to tell me she refuses to take my dog (not his fault) and her hands hurt. Maybe she should retire and not take it out on her paying customers or should not accept further customers. What a disappointment. So grateful to have found this place! Called and messaged via yelp a bunch of places but they were apparently not accepting new clients. Previous Groomer place was Robbies. However, that place went down hill fast and was genuinely disappointed that they could not even answer the phone to confirm my appointment. Done with Robbie's Pet Salon and am looking forward to having Vina be a regular client here! The staff is super friendly. The prices were comparable to other groomers but wasn't a huge factor since my darling needed to get groomed. This place made it soooo easy! At Robbies your pet could literally be there for 6 hours easily. Downriver grooming had my darling Vina ready In less than 3 hours and called to let give me as a heads up. The owner I believe Craig was so kind. He took the pic and kept telling me how perfect Vina was. Vina is a little anti social and doesn't so well with other dogs or people but I knew that when it came to grooming she could control herself but for someone to continually describe her as perfect made my day. I love the transparency of this place and for once I got exactly what I asked for. I've said the same thing to all groomers regarding the style that I want for her. I just want to keep her face kind of full not too short. He nailed it ! No one would believe my little girl is pushing 13 years old. The customer service they have is above and beyond. To match their great service with owners, they are impeccable with the pets. My golden retriever always is so happy to see them. When I pick him up he looks so handsome and smells amazing! His coat is shiny and soft, and we both always leave with a smile!! They also groom rescues and shelter pets for free so they have a better chance at finding their forever homes. How amazing is that? Their prices are beyond fair and I always feel like I'm getting a great deal for my medium sized, medium coat length Golden Retriever. Worth every penny!! Downriver Grooming in Wyandotte rocks ! We have a 9 year old large chocolate lab mix. Daphne is very anxious and gets upset if you touch her paws. We haven't been able to get her hair cut because of this-other groomers have said she's too stressed out or too big. Her fur was all wild and filled with mats. We checked with Downriver Grooming and they said they could take care of her--and they did-paws and all. They even noticed Daphne still had stitches from a months ago surgery. Overall not the best experience Ive had with a groomer. We couldnt go to our normal groomer due to scheduling conflicts so we tried here. After dropping off my german shepherd (kodi) I walked to 7/11 nearby for a slurpee and returned shortly after. I went directly to the back to try to calm kodi down as I heard him repeatedly barking and I walked in on her touching my dog inappropriately with a pair of latex gloves! Is she running some kind of black market dog breeding business?? Completely unacceptable and uncalled for! I let her finish the grooming (supervised) however we will not be returning. **** Probable strangulation alert **** Look around at the equipment that your groomer uses. Is it as safe as possible? They make thing to help prevent accidents if possible. LOLAH We love you. On October 27, 2022 I took my three fur babies into the Downriver Groomer Co at 8 AM. Prior to taking dogs to the groomer I took them outside in my backyard and they went potty. All three of my dogs always travel in carriers. I called them car seats. I personally sat all their car seats in the little cages at groomer. They told me they would call me when they were finished. I walked out. Approximately 11 AM I got a phone call that said they would be ready in five minutes come and get them. I immediately drove to get them. I put 1 and 2 in their carriers. Someone else put my little Lolah in hers. I paid my bill - left a hefty tip, and took my girls home. When I got home, again took our girls outside and I proceeded on with my business not knowing that anything could be wrong. Around 3 o'clock in the afternoon I noticed that Lolah was limping so it appeared to me. I just thought that I would keep a eye on her. When my husband got home at five he noticed right off that something wasn't right with Lolah, I told him I thought that maybe she did a Mollee knee. This is something that happens in tiny dogs. No one's fault. Just the breeds. And that we just needed to watch her. When I got up in the morning there was a note stamped 4:30 am from my husband that something was wrong with Lolah - call the vet ASAP. I tried to get into my vet as an emergency but I couldn't get in until four in the afternoon on Friday. I took her to the vet and the vet didn't feel like it was her knee. She thought it was neurological. I kind of looked at her because I wasn't sure how to word a neurological happened? We agreed to just give her some medicine and take her home to until morning. Vet thought possibly she had gotten into something and if she had that she would've gotten better by morning. In the morning she was much worse. I called her doctor. she referred us to a neurological doctor and the neurological doctor concluded that the two vertebrae right below her skull were injured. It was affecting her spinal cord. She couldn't move. Many options on how to proceed. I chose one. Monday morning we contacted Downriver grooming. The owner took less than 1 minute to check and see if there was an accident here? ...Lolah is 4 yrs old and is 3.7 pounds. Travels in car seat. Never leashed. Tiny breakaway collar just for her bells... how did my dogs neck get broken? Vet thought the type leashes some groomers use. They get tighter with pressure to help control the dogs? Two lessons - 1-if they were honest and called me right away the result may have been different. Me thinking it was her knee lost us time 2-they make breakaway grooming collars-leases. Check to see that your groomer are using those just in case this kind of accident happens. I tried to explain to owner it obviously was an accident but I should have been notified immediately but she is just insisting that I hung my 4 year old baby between the hours of noon and 3 on Thursday. Shame of her for not doing what was right here. Save you heart and your money. Find a place that is geared towards safety. Look around to see if your groomer is using the best safety they can. Be on the lookout for LOLAHS accident precautions when possible! Then your left with trust. I would NEVER TRUST DOWNRIVER GROOMING CO again simply for the attitude and lack of trying to correct what happened. read more

I had been taking my very well behaved labradoodle here for a few years until I got my dog back the one day completely botched up, they had cut her nose and completely shaved half of her face for no reason. It was completely uneven all over and it took over a month for the hair to start growing back normal again. I had contacted them asking what had gone wrong and for my money back since someone else had picked her up for me and this was completely unacceptable. They said another groomer had to cut her last minute due to a family emergency and that they would refund me half my money which never happened. I will absolutely never be going back here again. My mother in law who is on a fixed income brought her elderly husky to this DOG GROOMING business and was shamed when she came to pick him up. The owner shamed my MIL in front of others because she didn't bring him in sooner and his fur was matted. Not everyone can afford dog grooming regularly, especially not on a fixed income. The owner could've handled the situation differently and privately but instead opted to embarrass my MIL. My MIL is the least confrontational person I've ever met. Totally disrespectful and unprofessional to shame a person who is trying to fix the issue. Would a barber shame a customer who needed a haircut? Would a dentist shame a patient with bad teeth? Would a cleaning company shame someone with a messy home? You get where I'm going with this. This neighborhood groomer is wonderful! I have Himalayans and a Persian who occasionally need grooming and this place does great work with competitive prices. They schedule appointments for cats when few to no dogs are around. Most importantly they are very careful to do what's best for the cat and take their time grooming knowing the delicate nature of a cat's skin. I'm so happy they are in Wyandotte and will continue taking my fluffs there. read more

I am so happy to have found this groomer. I have a small male dog, my first time owning a 'fancy' breed, and did not realize how much grooming long haired animals require. I had been taking him to another small groomer up the road, but was not impressed with the customer service or the cleanliness of the location and decided to try this place, even though this location costs a bit more. So far, I have been extremely pleased with the services we have received. I want my dog to look a particular way and put a lot of work into keeping his hair soft and long. The groomers here do an excellent job of fixing matted areas I miss without having to cut them out, and always follow my instructions. They do a lot of fun things too. We have had a Mohawk as well as his hair colored, and he looks so precious every time. The location is clean and doesn't smell of cigarette smoke (like other local places) or musty wet dog. The girls are friendly and I have never heard of or witnessed any aggressive behavior toward a dog. They all are very professional and I trust them completely with my dog. They even offer teeth cleaning and nail grinding services as well as other add on's for an additional fee. Side note- There is a new local book store that just popped up next door. A family owned used book store that is trying to make a home in this beautiful family friendly city. I love checking out their progress as they build, and can't wait to stop in as soon as they open. read more

I will say that they were very nice and friendly over Facebook messenger and when we got there. I simply wanted my dogs nails trimmed. The person who was doing it put in 0 effort to build rapport with my dog and yelled at him for jumping up on her because he wanted to say hi. He is still a puppy! She took him back and just put him up on the table, didn't even check to see if he was comfortable. He did fine when she clipped the nails but he freaked out when he heard the nail drill. He did growl at her, but then she proceeded to say that he bit her. I was watching the whole time. My dog is the sweetest dog ever and has no mean bone in his body. She then proceed to yell "yep you guys are going to have to take him to a vet, that was unprovoked." Of course I felt extremely bad, but her reaction was very unprofessional. I left with my dog having 2 nails clipped and he is terrified now. I wouldn't suggest going here if you have any kind of dog that is bigger than a Yorkie. read more

This is the second time i've attempted to come to this business. The first time I brought my puppy in which they traumatized her to the point she does not enjoy brushing anymore. This time I brought two dogs, one who has been successfully groomed and was considered a "breeze of a client". The other being a 1 year old who the vet has no issue cutting nails, swabbing ears, putting eye drops in, etc. Instead of ending the groom early, they proceeded to call my dogs vicious, take video of them not enjoying what was happening, and muzzle them. Each groom costed me $95 without tip and only the back half was done but was considered a completed groom. I was also required to put the harness and leash back on because of the "vicious" nature in which prior to this the groomer was on the ground hugging and getting in my dogs face... suspicious if he's so mean right? I have learned my lesson, third time is the charm. Needless to say, there's a reason majority of the clients are small dogs. read more

Took my dog there today got a call to pick him up. Thay said he peed and pooped while being groomed. They said he was getting upset while being dried so they stopped. His cut was not complete nor was anything else done. They said I could bring him back Monday but I had to pay now or loose my time. I have taken my dog there before I will not take him there again. Wow!! Met the downriver grooming company at the Brownstown animal shelter vet clinic day a couple of weeks ago where I took my 4 year old sheltie and my 9 year old Shepard/Doberman mix to get some shots, she was offering toenail clippings. I spoke to her about how much and how I could go about cleaning my Shelties super thick winter coat because I felt like no matter how much I bathed or brushed him it just wasn't clean. not only did she tell me how much it would be if I brought him into her but also gave me some tips for at home bathing and brushing. So fast forward to yesterday I had scheduled an appointment about four days earlier for a morning appointment and asked again for a price estimate when we got there to drop him off we were greeted by lots of smiling faces (people and dogs) she told me it would take about two hours and clarified what I wanted exactly and what to trim. It was a cute little shop pretty clean considering all the dog hair you'd expect flying around. But anyways sure enough about two hours later the groomer who did him called and told me how wonderful he was (first time at a groomer so I was worried) and that I could pick him up, when I picked him up I was so shocked at how good he smelled and how soft and shiny his coat was! It was like he was a puppy all over again! And the cost was exactly what they said it would be, and they give you a punch card towards an award! It was Wonderful! I'm so beyond happy!
