Come Hungry, but Don't Expect Authentic German Food…read more First things first--the amount of food you are served at the Bavarian Inn is excessive, so make sure you arrive hungry! We came to Frankenmuth specifically looking forward to good, authentic German food, and unfortunately, what we found here was a much more Americanized version. The food isn't bad--it's good--but if you've eaten traditional German food, you may find yourself a little disappointed. The schnitzel was dry, and the brown mushroom gravy was much more flour-based than we expected, with very little served over the meat. One of the things we love about traditional German schnitzel dishes is the rich, flavorful gravy generously served with them, and that was definitely missing here. It's hard to admit, but the best dishes on our table were actually the sides brought out and served family style before our main meals arrived. We enjoyed those more than the entrées themselves. Where the Bavarian Inn really shines is the atmosphere and service. Our wait staff was wonderful--friendly, attentive and very good at what they do. I just wish we could have been equally enthusiastic about the food. The portions are enormous, the experience is certainly unique, and the service is excellent.
