The castle shops are just so fun! There are toys, gifts, clothing, knickknacks and my favorite, the bakery! They have a huge chocolate shop and a wine and beer shop selling German beers and steins. They have a little wine tasting area. The space is huge, easy to linger and find the perfect items to take home and remind yourself of the fond memories of Frankenmuth. My favorite bakery items: the butter horns, blueberry scones, the stollen bread and the Asiago garlic rolls! The prices here at the Castle shops are a bit more reasonable than the shops across the street at Zehnder's. The service here is also really friendly. read more

I went with a group of ladies to Frankenmuth, mi for 3 nights. On our last night we str at Bavarian inn and really enjoyed it. If you love German style food, then you'll go bonkers here! The decor is bavarian, the wait staff are dressed exactly what you want. The food was delicious. Lots had the fried chicken that they are known for and there were no complaints. What a memorable experience at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant in Frankenmuth! We had the privilege of sitting at the bar, where we were warmly taken care of by Miles--a great young man attending the University of Michigan. He couldn't have been kinder or more welcoming. We enjoyed a delicious pretzel with some fantastic dipping sauces, and both my wife and I had great beers. I also tried one of their specialty drinks--a root beer float with a little kick--and it was such a fun treat. Before we left, we stopped by the bakery downstairs and picked up a lemon meringue pie and one of their specialty apple pies--both were absolutely over-the-top delicious. The atmosphere, the service, the food--everything was just wonderful. We can't wait to come back when we visit from California. I have to say that the jalapeño cheddar bread is very delicious, though I am very disappointed to see that they are selling baked goods that expire the same day under the glass at no discount. read more

This is specifically for the Royal Gift Shop. We have always enjoyed the shops here and have made several purchases. We had a group of young children with us and they were interested in all the wind chimes outside of the gift shop. Many of these wind chimes were at floor level and the kids were gently ringing them (not rough at all). A worker came out and scolded the children harshly to stop touching them. No kind words, no gently asking. We felt very unwelcome. read more

This is where we spent the most time browsing and choosing gifts for people back home. There are just so many tasty, fun Bavarian things to see here. There's a little toy shop, a bakery, a chocolate shop, a clothing and knickknack shop and more all located in the basement of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant. Frankenmuth can be a little overwhelming when it comes to shopping because there's an abundance of shops, and every shop carries amazing things. But if you want to find a souvenir in a hurry, this is a good place to visit. I ended up getting some chocolate-covered potato chips at the chocolate shop, some stollen at the bakery, some dog biscuits at another shop, and a jar of blueberry jam at still yet another shop. I also got some gift ideas for my kids at the toy shop, because of course they gravitated to the toys and wanted everything. The people in the shops are very helpful and friendly (especially the toy shop, which is where my kids and many others were playing with and touching everything), and it was a very nice experience to just walk around and look at all the things. read more

This is a must-do every time we are in town. The kids have been shopping this toy store for ages, and you are never too old to shop around. They have so many cute options. Today we got the giant hot pretzels with Bavarian mustard, so good, I gobbled mine up so fast. The other pastries looks so good. I like to look around the wine shop, they often have to little samples (I think they charge a minimal fee for each pour, but it is worth it). We like the sweatshirt shop with the Greta Van Fleet merch, and of course, the candy shop. Everyone here is always friendly and eager to assist. I have purchased countless goodies and presents here. This is a must stop when visiting Frankenmuth! Located in the lower level, there are several small shops with a variety of items that make for perfect gifts to give or get for yourself. I always look forward to visiting the bakery especially since they offer seasonal items. On the most recent visit, I purchased a mini pumpkin spice cake and it was delicious! They also have a clearance rack for items that are soon to expire, but more than 50% off the original price so can't beat it! I also had a warm pretzel with a side of cheese. It's not a complete visit in Frankenmuth without a pretzel! Definitely worth a visit! read more

I usually love going in the Castle Shops, but the last few times it has felt like product in some of the shops doesn't move. It's literally the same and the prices can be a bit much lately. They need to move some old stock out and change things up or have a huge sale. Some of the merchandise is pretty gimmicky, some is overpriced and a lot is very outdated. And we all understand that those pretzels they sell are awful. Just stop selling them, they are bad, as in horrid and stale. The wine and beer shop is nice, my wife and I always go in there, but lately their stock has seemed to not rotate. We bough some discounted breads in the bakery recently and that was very good, and better priced. Here's a tip: Check the sales rack. Overall, cute concept and all, but salespeople ignore you and some of the stock is what is would call unsaleable. Just change it up some. And mark the prices down for families. read more

This is a must stop while visiting Bavarian inn restaurant. These shops are located in the lower level of the building. The building has a castle like feel with toy soldiers in the front. They are very cool and unique. There were fresh baked goodies in the Castle shop bakery. Stroll through the unique shops which include Candy Corner, Royalty Gift Shop, Doll & Toy shop, Souvenirs, Wine and Beer shop and the Chocolate Shop. They have some unique items imported from Germany. The staff were dressed in German theme. There were hand-painted beautiful murals on the stairway. The whole place was just amazing. I enjoyed looking around and browsing these shops. There is little something for everyone in these castle shops. Well worth the time. Truly good shopping experience. read more

Awesome! As a hard core Christmas lovers, we went to Frankenmuth and the Castle shops at the Bavarian Inn. Delightful! Absolutely beautifully decorated, with Christmas stuff everywhere Bakeries, candy and fudge shops, ornaments, food, decor, gifts and everything one could ask for for Christmas! Kathleen opened the doors and immediately greeted us with a smile! She invited us in and walked us around, showing us all the treats and fresh they were. I have been here twice, and I have only shopped here so I can't comment on the food or the baked goods. I love the fact that they have toys for kids, kitchen accessories, and lots of tchotchkes and gadgets, and they have a nice area with beer and wine which is lovely. Not sure how to review this restaurant. German theme, servers in costume and decor to match, they seem to specialize in fried chicken and Amish style food. We stuck with German food (sausage and sauerkraut) and it was good but not spectacular. Servers efficient. Downstairs was unique in that it was loaded with souvenirs, bakeries and candy shoppes. We got a soft pretzels and pastry items that were very tasty. Was worth the stop but wouldn't recommend as a destination trip. read more
