Came on a wintery Monday night. Trying to find the door was super hard. It was dark and no lighting above the entrance. Walked in and bathrooms are to the left. Then a big open space/dining area with very tall ceilings. Not very cozy or inviting. They had happy hour and we were able to enjoy it for the last 15 minutes. Our waitress was friendly and honest about the menu options. She said the black bean burger is frozen and she wouldn't recommend. I got a happy hour beer which was on draft and it was good. Full house pours of brown iron beer are $6. Some of the appetizers are marked down for happy hour so we got the pretzels. 25% off select items. We got the soft pretzels but the pretzel to dip ratio was off though. Not enough pretzels to utilize all the dips. Would be nice to have 4 pretzels instead of 3 but they were really tasty. Warm and fluffy pretzels. The dips were yummy too! I got the hot chicken sandwich and my friend got the sante fe salad and added chicken. My sandwich was a good size and they have thicker style fries, good seasoning on them. The hot part of the sandwich was lacking, it wasn't very hot. My friend liked her salad and it was a good portion. Waitress without us asking split our checks and split the pretzels between us, so nice! She checked on us throughout our meal. First time at this location - the entrance is long but we were greeted when we finally came to front. Please note this location was pretty far but i were coming for the bingo night event which was FREE. Food was super good and waitress was very attentive; unfortunately i really wish they served flights but we created our own version by ordering multiple drinks. Today was Madison's first day and you would never know it! Her service she provided was excellent!

I immediately felt at home when I walked in. There's a casual vibe to the decor that belies the quick and flawless preparation of the food. There's also a staggering selection of beers. I normally don't have any trouble deciding on a beer, but this took a while. They have many Michigan beers, which makes me happy. And, they have many imaginative cocktails. My wife ordered the Apple Berry Jam, which tastes like an apple pie. I can absolutely see coming here for drinks. But, if you only get drinks, you miss out on the amazing food. I considered a sandwich - there are several that sound terrific - but I went with an entree so I could try different sides. My wife started with a side salad, which was simple, but the Caesar dressing elevated it with a thick Parmesano Reggiano presence. The salmon was also simple, with seasoning that highlighted the delicate nature of the fish without obscuring it. It was served with honey Dijon sauce, but it honestly didn't need it. The mashed potatoes were nice and buttery, but a baked potato would have been a perfect compliment if it were available on the menu. The Espresso Burnt Ends, topped with pickled red onions, were flawless. I savored every rich, smoky bit. I first trimmed the small bits of fat, but I decided to try a nibble...even the fat is delicious. I could easily have enjoyed it without any sides, but I couldn't have been happier with the fries. They have a crispy, Rally's fries character to them. And, there were a lot of them. The Pretzel Mac & Cheese was a bit of a letdown, but only because everything else was so amazingly good. Pretzel crumbs are sprinkled on top, which is a nice concept. But there was nothing that tasted like a pretzel; it might as well have been breadcrumbs. The Mac & cheese itself was good, though not very cheesy. But, I realize I'm nitpicking because of how amazing everything else was. The service was solid, too, while also keeping with the casual vibe. Dinner and drinks set us back about $60...well worth it for how great everything was. A family style brewhouse. Stopped there for the first time coming home down old Van Dyke. I was impressed by the brisket sandwich and the beer selection. I have stopped there several times over the past few months and even joined their loyalty club. If you are just looking for a munchie, there appetizer selection is great. Stopped in on the Friday after Thanksgiving around 11am. Took 45 mins to get seated, which was expected. We stood in line at the bar to get some beers. It took basically the full 45 mins to get a beer. We sat down and had a waitress come up to us 3 times and say she'd be with us in a few minutes. She finally toook our order 45 mins after being seated. We chose to order double drinks and food because the wait was just gonna be too long. Glad we did. We didn't see our waitress for another hour. Bussers brought our drinks about 40 mins into ordering. Our food came about an hour and 20 after we ordered. The manager couldn't change the tvs to play the wings game and instead insisted on playing an old bears game from a week or two ago. We didn't see our waitress again for a while. The place was packed but the bar was understaffed because beer orders took 45 mins to an hour to get. Overall, they needed more help. The food was fine but the service was abysmal. Based on this visit, we would never come back. The poor wait staff was struggling so hard. Management should be ashamed. read more

we arrive at 4:55pm on a Sunday and the place had open tables yet we waited 50 minutes to be seated. Okay I can deal with that. we ordered appetizers and our meals at the same time and proceeded to wait 30 minutes without anything coming. I called the waitress over and asked if the food was going to be out soon and she said they were plating it up right now. We waited another 20 minutes and still no food. At this point I just asked for the bill for our drinks so we could go somewhere else, that is when the manager came over and said he Was getting the appetizers right now apologized and said he would take care Of the bill for our entire meal. 10 minutes late our appetizers showed up. Another 10 minutes later our meals showed up. The food was good (not great 6 out of 10). When they brought the bill it was not taken care of b the manger. He did remove the appetizers from the bill but the bill was still $130 (for 4 of us). While we were waiting at our table we watched several other tables get up and leave without receiving their meals either. We just moved to this area and this place is a short walk from our home, would have been great if it worked out. Will possibly try again in hopes it was just a bad day, but not holding my breath. read more

Last night we had our Beer Drinkers of America meeting at Brown Iron. The service was excellent. I was taken care of the whole night, never had to wait. Our two servers were on top of everything, always with a smile on their face. The food was amazing, I've eaten here before and I have never been disappointed with anything. I have come here multiple times for lunch or early dinners. It is incredibly easy to find the restaurant, and it has its own parking lot. Van Dyke road in this area is mostly quiet so you are able turn in and out on both north and south bound directions. I have yet to have a bad meal. I have had most of the gluten-free food options. Though the menu does periodically change slightly depending on the season. The 2 bbq sauces that are on the table are both good. My favorite side is the brussel sprouts followed by the French fries. I recently had a really good Cider. All of the waitresses that I have had have always been able to do separate checks. Even when I was part of a 12 person party. They have kept our drinks full and made sure to check on us to verify that we did not need anything. Brown Iron Brewhouse is a solid spot to grab a drink and enjoy some good food. The brisket egg rolls here are legit. The cheese curds really surprised me. They had a fluffy texture, none like I've ever had before. Both the bone-in and boneless wings were good. I did prefer the sriracha sauce over the buffalo, but I enjoyed both. The candied apple BBQ sauce was the real deal, and definitely enhanced the taste of the brisket. The New York strip is not a regular menu item, and is only available on the weekends. I enjoyed a Turkey Club Burger here, opting for onion rings instead of fries. The meal was satisfying, and my Blood Diamond cocktail was skillfully made. The restaurant offers plenty of TVs for watching the game, and the service was solid. However, the restroom sink faucets could use an upgrade--spring-loaded faucets make it nearly impossible to wet both hands at once unless someone holds the water on for you, which isn't exactly practical. read more

Being gluten free can be a bit difficult when dining out. And as it was the one year wedding anniversary, my husband and I wanted to have a date night out. We found Brown Iron and were delighted to see they offered many different gluten free options. We were sat quickly and our waiter was not far behind. Great service and great food. We picked our samples for my girlfriend then she vanished for what seemed like forever. Hanging out at hostess stand chit chatting ignore all the people at the bar. The couple next to us got up an left completely ignored. after what seemed like 30 minutes finally got our drink. we ask her to come back for food or in 10 minutes that went smoothly & the fish in chips were so good except no chips with the fish thought that was weird. 2nd bartender seemed more attentive but said we couldnt use our Hop Passports on one bill we had to wait even longer after our friends left to have manager separate our bills. Went to get seated on patio and asked for a table two tables away that was in the sun but were told that server couldn't handle another table. Ordered a drink off the menu, but they were out of it. It had been a while since I last visited the BIB. My favorite item on the menu used to be the Beer Can chicken. I've had it multiple times in the past. Tonight, 4 of us went for dinner. I ordered the chicken. It was no longer the same! It used to come as a 1/2 chicken and it was tender to the bone. Now, it's cut into 4 pieces and the breast part was soooo tough. Anyone, who has ever made Beer Can Chicken at home knows that this format for cooking makes the chicken very tender. My broccoli side dish came in a ramekin and floating in at least 1/2 cup of water. Why it wasn't drained I have no idea. We ordered the Brisket egg rolls. They came 'exploded'. The outer wonton wrap was way higher than the filling. Prices are high for what you get IMO. I don't mind high when it's high quality. Whoever owns this place needs to oversee the quality and what's happening in the kitchen. read more

I have long enjoyed this place. I used to work nearby and would do lunch once or twice a week then changed jobs but now I am back. Huge craft tap but sadly I go for lunch from work so no beer. The took my favorite dish off the menu, corned beef brisket-man that was so good. I had the fish and chips and it was decent.
