Mae's is one of our favorite places to eat in the area. Located in the heart of downtown Mt Clemens, Mae's is super convenient to get to. There is parking everywhere, so if you're coming from out of town then fear not, there's a spot for you to stop and get some Mae's! I'm finally writing my review after going here multiple times for soups and sandwiches. Unfortunately, the food is just too good and I eat every last bite before I have a chance to take a picture. Today there was a new chicken bacon ranch wrap, comes with chips, was delicious! Forget chain restauarants, go to Mae's! Staff is incredible. Friendly, helpful, always in a good mood. Stopped into Mae's for breakfast and couldn't believe it took us this long to try it. It's a small diner style spot with seating both inside and outside. Everything is made in small batches and house made, which really shows in the quality. You order at the counter and they bring your food out when it's ready. We got coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes, and the breakfast burrito. Everything was delicious and the portions were filling. Sadly we have been a fan of Mae's for quite some time but... food quality feels altered last few visits...& oddly they still don't make their own coffee & don't offer decaf?!?! No salt & pepper on the tables?! It's weird... are you or are you not a restaurant serving many breakfast items?!? But this last complaint is a cleanliness one & that is always a flag... the floors in the bathroom were so greasy they were slippery. How long do they NOT get cleaned in order to be that slippery Not good. read more

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. This place is in the heart of downtown Mount Clemens; it's not the biggest establishment but mighty. The servers were beyond friendly, personal, and attentive. When you walk in, you'll order at the counter and then sit at any open seat. Then, the server brings your food. I ended up getting the Fried Southern Chicken sandwich with chips and a Diet Coke. The sandwich was not overbearing or too heavy. The sandwich was made with a coleslaw, pickles, and mayo, which brought a good pair and provided a good balance of taste. Once you're done, you leave your plate at the table and the server will collect it. Overall, I loved this place and would love to come back to try other items on the menu. read more

There are not enough words to describe how delicious this huevos rancheros was this morning. I opted to substitute the chorizo with sausage links, so it wasn't too spicy. The cilantro sour cream is just delicious. Everything about it had a perfect flavor in every bite. read more

After so many FB posts finally made it into Mae's. Cute little shop. Lady at the counter was pleasant at first. She seemed a little annoyed that I asked for my sandwich to be wrapped in two separate boxes... I ordered the monte cristo and a Maurice salad. I've read so much about monte cristos lately, I couldn't wait to try it. It's definitely a sweet & savory sandwich, and although it was tasty, it was on the sweet side for me, for most, it probably wouldn't be. My sister prefers the jam on the side, not in the sandwich. I did like the potatoes it came with. The salad was good, but could've used more toppings, imho. I wouldn't hesitate to return, they have a couple other things on the menu I'd try. read more

While I'm unemployed I have the freedom to check out new dining places during the non-busy hours. Mom and I drove in from Sterling Heights to check out Mae's as we love biscuits and gravy and we heard they made the best version of it here. We arrived around 10:30am on Wednesday. There is limited parking and you have to pay .25 cents for every 15 minutes. The limited parking isn't a problem for those that can walk but mom can barely handle walking a few feet. Since it was slow time we had no problem finding a spot right outside their door. For most people not having a booth or chairs that have sides for the arms there is no issue, but again, with mom it was difficult for her to land in a hard seat with no arms. I brought her pillow and assisted her as she got in her seat. Mom is 84 and has severe arthritis and Parkinson's ; she is vibrant but really needs the creature comforts when she dines out. Eating out is our 'big outing' so we enjoy trying new places to eat at. I was surprised to learn we had to order at the counter, had to order water in a bottle, got our coffee in a paper cup - but hey, it's all fun in the trying new places so no biggie. The coffee was strong, smooth and very good. Since we arrived when no one was there our food was delivered in a timely manner, was served hot and was delicious! The scrambled eggs were fluffy and very tasty. Mom really enjoyed her biscuits and gravy. The cook/chef is very good. I loved my meal but was surprised at how full I was after eating just half my meal. I requested a to-go box and was presented with one of those god-awful, 'save-the-environment' cardboard, flap the tops over each other boxes. No thanks, I left my food there as I know from past experience, my food ends up tasting like cardboard and the lid pops open risking my food falling out. Great addition to the downtown Mt. Clemens vibe. We are glad that we tried it but we will leave it to the young, healthy downtown crowd. read more

The cheese on it was ripped up slices of cheese that weren't even slightly melted because the rest of the food wasn't even slightly warm. My boyfriend had the corn beef hash. He said it was fatty and just tasted like shredded ham, not a lot of flavor. We both had the potatoes which were overcooked. Disappointed, we will not be returning here. read more

Got a takeout from this little downtown Mt Clemens spot the other morning, and I was very disappointed. Why? Because I hadn't tried this place sooner! It's fantastic! Mae's is only open for breakfast and lunch, and the menu reflects that with lots of interesting and delicious sounding items to choose from. I chose the (3) basic buttermilk pancakes, made with sweet cream and served with cinnamon butter and maple syrup. They weren't basic though - they were actually the best pancakes I've ever had. They smelled incredible, and they were big and fluffy and perfect. I forgot to take a photo, I was hungry, haha. The cinnamon butter was a perfect touch (thank you for serving butter that's not cold and rock hard!) and they provide a generous serving of warm (thank you for this too) maple syrup on the side. Mae's is one of my favorite spots in Downtown Mt. Clemens. It's a small little Cafe with just a few tables. You order at the counter and they bring your meal out to you when ready. They serve breakfast and lunch until close. My favorite thing on the menu is the Derby salad, it's sort of like a Cobb salad but the dressing is Devine. My husband absolutely loves their biscuits and gravy. So many great options. And if you're gluten free like me, they do have GF bread available for sandwiches and a lot of the times one of the soups is also GF, just ask! The only downside is they don't have fountain drinks, just bottled soda and bottled water. Oh and they serve great coffee because it's from Black Cat across the street! read more

Ran up to the county building early one Friday and was hungry for breakfast after my meeting. Jumped on Yelp and it lead me here. I walked in and was greeted quickly by a friendly young woman with a smile and an explanation of how it works here (diner style, order at counter, then sit). Ordered the corned beef hash and a pancake with a coffee. The cornbeef was seasoned perfectly. The red skins were soft and tasty but could have used some more grill time. Most cornbeef dishes are mainly spuds and onions and light on the corned beef, but not this dish! I'd guess it was 70% corned beef and delish! Also the eggs were nicely poached and went great with the dish. The pancake was thick and fluffy, came with cinnamon butter and hot syrup. Ahhhhh-mazing. Glad I listened to Yelp on this one. This is a really cute brunch place in downtown Mt Clemens. I was worried they would be too small to accommodate a group of 5 but it was no problem.
