When the waitress takes her food order, the waitress tells us the food will just be a few minutes more. The food finally comes at 1:15pm. My friend asks if they forgot our order. The waitress lies and says they got hit with a bunch of orders at the same time. If that were the case, at some point, a good waitress would have told us the food was going to be late. I know she lied because two men came in 10 minutes after us, sat beside us, got their food and left even before we got our food. Plus, three of us had pork tacos; could barely hold them, as they were both very greasy. Not impressed! read more

Lovely experience staying here - the details are on point! The Drake knows how to design a space and everything from the lobby to the bar to the hallway to the bathrooms was whimsical, modern, and colorful in an intentional way. We stayed in the modern wing and the rooms were good sizes with beautiful finishes and a clean, well designed bathroom. Everyone working at the hotel was very kind and helpful. You absolutely have to stop by the hotel bar one evening. The bartender is awesome and extremely knowledgeable about what he does! The Drake is also located in one of the best neighborhoods of Toronto. There are so many cute restaurants, wine bars, coffee shops, and thrift stores nearby. read more

This hotel is very me and I'm so glad I had the chance to stay here for a few days. Seriously, the moment I walked through the doors I was impressed with the fun, colorful, 80s-ish vibe it was giving off. The little bar in the front corner, the cool furniture and art in the lobby, even the amazing lady that helped me check in was great. Together we joked about the space being quirky and fun, which again, perfectly describes myself. Along with the hotel, you'll find an attached restaurant, a small music venue downstairs, and even a rooftop bar upstairs along with an open-air patio. I didn't try the restaurant but I did get the chance to see a musician play down stairs as well as grab a drink on the rooftop. No matter who I spoke to or where I was, everyone was very friendly and attentive to whatever I needed. While my room was somewhat small, it was very cozy and the quirkiness continued. I really liked the shampoo and conditioner/body wash that they had available. I also liked that they give you a giant canister of water to help you stay hydrated. The room was also stacked with alcohol and food galore. While it all cost extra, there was a complimentary bag of locally made popcorn. Very cute touch. My bed was comfy and while my room faced Queen St, it wasn't loud at all. You can tell based on all of the attention to detail that they care about their customers' experience. If I had the chance to stay here again, I would in a heartbeat. read more

They only offer it on Sundays and it was pretty affordable compared to others in the city at $45/person It may not look like a lot of food but we were both stuffed when we finished. When we said what we were celebrating we got a free round of champagne to start, and shots from the server before we left which was awesome! Food: Appetizer - We got the spinach dip. It was so small for the price we paid.... It came with about 5 crackers to go with a very small thin dish of dip. Not worth it in my opinion. Entree- Got the burger and fries and man... there was sooo much fries. Definitely the better value since had food to spare. After our dinner they told us the space was turning into a club vibe, and there was also a place downstairs to dance. We are on a group trip and just stumbled upon the Drake hotel! We were looking for our bus to the CNN Tower for our tour and wallah! The hostess was very nice and welcoming and that was refreshing because the UBER drivers in Toronto are the worst their attitudes stink! This place is really nice as shown in the photos. Had a quick bite before a concert at the underground and the goat cheese crostini was to die for- it had arugula, pomegranate, sunflower seeds, balsamic, juicy fresh figs and goat cheese on sourdough bread. The staff were so fun and accommodating to the kids, and they even took our picture and encouraged us to use the photobooth inside the hotel. And best of all, although the hotel is located on Queen West, the patio is on the side street, so you can eat without worrying about the TTC and traffic being just inches away. Alrighty this is for the food but not as an arts venue. Food 3*** Arts Venue 4**** The food at the Drake is not bad but I do expect the flavour and execution of the basics like a pancake to be much better especially since it is more expensive than the other spots around it - and those other spots are pretty good. My favourite thing on the menu is the Drake breakfast because everything tastes so good on the plate and it came with sourdough which is to me the best bread. My friends weren't too thrilled with their dishes. The pancakes weren't fluffy and on the dry side with syrup helping only a little. The spiced latte... not very flavourful. I was much happier with the London fog latte! I will say atmosphere and customer service are amazing! From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. One of the reasons it's a great spot to go. As an arts venue on a weekend, this place is nuts and the later it is in the evening the more people there are loitering outside the hotel. Must be noisy if you are staying there. I was really excited to come here for valentine's day but it was slightly underwhelming.. I guess with valentine's day being overhyped and everyone going out I felt that the Drake was slightly understaffed that night. The food took a long time to get there, my partner and I were given this really awkward seating where we sat next to each other rather than across and the photo booth was broken so everyone who received the vouched couldn't redeem it. Food: The food was pretty good, but I'm not amazed. I had the steak tartare for apps, the mushroom pappardelle, and the dessert was the commissary dessert. I think the steak tartare was super interesting, I've never had steak tartare before but I enjoyed it's flavour and texture for what it is. It was also arranged in an adorable heart shape! The mushroom pappardelle was deliciously flavourful with this fun flavour profile but I don't think it was anything revolutionary. This is like something I could whip up at home with the right ingredients. All in all, it's good but it's not as earthy and mushroomy than what I had hoped for. The dessert was good, it was a coffee cake and I'm not much of a coffee cake person so it was meh to me but if I WAS a coffee cake person I'd enjoy it much more. Staff: The hostess who seated us was fine, I just thought the seat she initially gave us was really awkward it was like a one sided booth so I sat next to my partner feeling like he was more like my bestie than my boyfriend. I later asked for the tables where I got to sit across from him and they didn't mind moving us. Our waitress was also very nice but she also asked us if we were doing ok a LOT like a little overkill i felt a little pressured. Venue: Everything was clean and drake has a nice consistent hipster theme going on. It's quite quirky in it's own way. Washrooms were also very clean. I love the Drake. As far as boutique neighborhood culture goes, they have really cornered the market in Ontario. I've been coming to the Drake for various events, concerts and parties for years but this was the first time I tried any of their food. Arriving just in time for dinner, I was surprised to see that they have a very healthy catalogue of items to choose from. Particularly, in their "sushi" department. I ordered the Tuna Poke bowl which came with rice, avocado, miso squash, cabbage, shitake mushrooms and ginger and wasabi. It felt good to eat a healthy meal at a bar for a change. The only thing about the dish that I didn't like was the miso squash. It felt out of place for a sushi based dish to have chunky bits of squash. Other than that one note, the Drake has lived up to its name for its quality presentation and service. read more

Came here 10pm on a Saturday with reservations. I ordered a Drake Burger which was delicious and filling and I LOVED that the milk buns were soft and savoury. We also ordered a pitcher of Red Sangria to share, there was a good amount of alcohol in it & just enough fruity sweetness (although no real fruits were in it). There's no need to pay cover for the clubbing portion of the night on the main floor, upper deck, & the underground since we had reservations & ordered food that night. The tables on the dance floor cleared by 11pm and we had space to enjoy the music and dance! I loved the music played by DJ Nana, he had a really good mashup of recent & early 2000's hip hop jams. Excellent food and service. We were really impressed and we won't hesitate to come back if we're ever in the area. We had a reservation, but the restaurant wasn't busy at 6pm on a Friday. We ordered: Scotch Egg ($11) - 7/10. I haven't had scotch eggs before. It was interesting and worth trying, but I wouldn't order this again because of the price point: $11 for two halves of an egg. Drake Burger ($22+4) - 8/10. It's a good burger that was perfectly cooked, but nothing mind-blowing. The bottom bun was a little soggy. Fries were crispy. We made ours fancy by adding pecorino and truffle butter, but I didn't think the upgrade was necessarily worth it. I probably won't reorder this because there are more interesting things to try. Whole Ontario Trout ($39) - 10/10. The highlight of our night. It's an entire fish that is deep fried and crispy, but it's still moist on the inside. The fish stayed crispy throughout the meal. The salad and greens served alongside of it were a nice counterpart. Would happily reorder. Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding ($9) - 8/10. This was good, but not particularly unique. My friend and I came here for the Poetry Slam that they hold in the Underground (one or two Sundays a month) and decided to also have dinner here before the show. Luckily since we were only 2 people we got in pretty quickly without a reservation, but it did fill up fast. Make a reservation if you really want to come here for dinner. While having dinner there was also a live "show" - some sort of comedy/music thing going on. I think different nights have different things going on so if you are looking for someplace quiet then this place might not fit the bill. The Underground is...underground..lol. This is where the shows, concerts, poetry slams etc happen. It's small, but there are tables and a bar down there. read more

Always a fun time. This place has a great vibe with amazing servers. I would say they have reasonably priced bottles of wine. We were here on Wednesday and it ended up being a trivia night ! Which was a lot of fun $2 dollars per player and it's all random - highly recommend trying it out. The duck pâté was creamy and delicious ! We have been trying to book multiple rooms for the night of our wedding and trying to book a space for the rehearsal a couple nights prior. Both experiences have been painful with poor communication throughout. We were told we would get a certain space during the tour and after signing a contract they changed the space. However, the host let us know that high tables in the dinning room are available without reservations and that's what we chose. I didn't know what to expect for food but I was disappointed in the menu's unusual variety and for it being over priced. I chose a Georgia Peach mocktail and The Drake Burger. The burger was awesome and so was the drink but based on what was offered on the menu I think my choice was a safe bet. If you are the type that is bothered by really loud noise then this place isn't for you. We came here on a Saturday so the underground had a concert and as a result strong vibrations can be felt while sitting in the dining area which is located right above. They had a special on a bottle of wine that was normally $80 for only $40. I didn't think it was the greatest of wines but the taste did seem to grow on me as the night went along.. and the bottle got emptier. Ordered the Drake Burger and my goodness! But the truffle fries that came with (a couple additional $) were mouthwatering. We also enjoyed a complimentary dessert for our birthdays! Maybe I'm not hipster enough. I didn't love my $18 Drake breakfast and it didn't love me back. Sure, it was OK (on par with what I'd get at any greasy diner) but there wasn't much to rave about. It's just your basic $9 breakfast (two eggs, decent sausage, a couple of bites of toast, and a small bowl of beans and hash browns). Toast was cut super thick (at least an inch) and the crust was pretty hard, interesting but not very tasty. No jam provided. Hash browns were incredibly un-inspired. They were from a bag of flash-frozen McCain bag of potato niblets, nothing like what you see in the pix on Yelp. They tossed in a few lonely strands of cooked onion, but it made no difference at all. A really poor effort, considering the extravagant price. Coffee was decent and they let me stay a long time and linger. Otherwise would have been a generous two stars for the food. read more
