While I've visited Toronto many times, this was my first stay at the Royal York. It's a historic landmark, but in terms of modern luxury, it feels more like a 3.5 to 4-star experience. If you adjust your expectations accordingly, you'll have a great stay. Pros: -Unbeatable Location: Right across from Union Station with easy UP Express access and direct entry to the PATH. -Amenities: The gym is modern and Equinox-caliber. The pool, while a bit dated, offers a lovely sky view. --Room Comforts: Our renovated room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom had excellent water pressure, plenty of hot water, and quality Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries. Wi-Fi Upgrade: They recently overhauled their Wi-Fi. All Accor members now get premium speeds (50+ Mbps), a huge jump from the previous speeds. -Dining: The lobby bar is a highlight for drinks and atmosphere, though it gets very busy during peak hours. Cons: -The "Zoo" Factor: Check-in can be chaotic. We beat the rush, but the line quickly grew to the concierge desk. -Noise: The walls are quite thin--I could clearly hear my neighbor's morning Katy Perry playlist! -The Mini-Bar Trap: There is no usable fridge; instead, they use an outdated weighted-sensor mini-bar. Don't touch anything unless you plan to buy it! -Navigation: It's a massive hotel, so be prepared for a long walk to the gym or pool depending on your wing. Fairmont Royal York offers a classic, elegant setting right in the heart of downtown Toronto. It offers great options for dining (food and drinks). We attended an event hosted in the mezzanine level. The event was well-organized; food, drinks and music were great. The staff were helpful, but they didn't have the details on our event and as much as they tried to help, but they couldn't. It's best if the communications on the details of the event are shared amongst all staff. read more

The Fairmont Royal York was chosen for our annual meeting this year, several years ago. It was the headquarters hotel but I chose to stay a few blocks away at the Sheraton to get some exercise and have some separation from the people I worked with for 10-hour days. It's in a great location downtown across from Union Station and near many restaurants, hotels and the Convention Center. I was pleasantly surprised that the "the path" which is the underground pedway goes all the way to the Sheraton and on to Union Station, with shops and food options along the way. (I was thrilled that there is a Tim Horton's and a Starbucks.) There's a Pandora and some clothing stores too. The hotel itself is iconic. Very elegant with beautiful fresh flowers in the lobby and gorgeous fixtures. The lobby bar is convenient and the staff were all courteous and attentive to our team. Beautiful property with tons of history and memorabilia from famous figures who have stayed in this hotel. Fairmont Royal York is a great option if you are looking to stay close to Union Station while remaining with in walking distance to the CN Tower and waterfront. This property is iconic and has been part of the Toronto skyline since 1929. My husband and I picked this location based on their amenities and proximity to the places we were visiting. Check-In For our stay, we chose the Fairmont Gold Suite King NS which included access to the dedicated Gold Lounge on the 18th floor, concierge, and beautifully appointed rooms. The Fairmont Gold option is touted as a hotel within the hotel. The private floor check-in is on the 18th floor where our concierge explained the amenities and property. Other amenities included are continental breakfast, afternoon canapés and honor bar. Josh, our Gold Concierge, was wonderful. He had anticipated our needs and even had wonderful note, chocolate covered strawberries, and a bottle of sparkling waiting in our room. Room The Fairmont Gold Suite King NS room was simply amazing. The decor, textures, placement, and overall aesthetics blended beautifully. We had the corner room and had a lot of natural light. The bathroom was luxurious and had all of the toiletries. There was a stand up shower with aroma therapy cartriges, separate toilet and large soaking tub. There were 2 services. We had the morning housekeeping and an evening turndown. Lounge The 18th Floor Gold Lounge is definitely the place you would want to relax and sip cocktails after a long day of traveling. The decor is pleasing to the senses. Seating was comfortable and the see-through fireplaces adds a cozy ambience. Continental breakfast is served from 7 AM to 10 AM and afternoon canapés 5 PM to 7 PM. The Gold Lounge has multiple Nespresso machines, selection of alcohol, wines, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks in between service periods. Dessert was served around 8 PM and lasts to 10 PM. Service This is what sets the Fairmont Gold apart from other brands. The staff was attentive. We had a last minute request for dinner reservations at Reign steakhouse and was immediately completed. I loved my stay at The Fairmont! We were able to check in early with no hassle, rooms were clean with all necessary amenities. Location was in walkable distance to plenty of food and drink or a short Uber ride to various other parts of Toronto. The lobby is elegant with a twist of modern chique decor. My absolute favorite part of this hotel is the convenience of their cocktail bars, especially the Library bar. Its aesthetic was amazing and every cocktail had a book reference. BEWARE however of the mini fridge bar sensors and be sure to physically check out to ensure you weren't charged for something that was not taken. Ornate inside and out. Really a beautiful hotel. The extraordinary orchid tree in the lobby is a sight to behold. Just how do they keep all those pink flowers alive? Very quick check in for the two of us. Our room was nice but a little warm for our tastes. A fan would have helped. The first evening our friend had reservations in the Library. So totally cool, apps and drinks in the perfect setting. Don't miss your chance if you are in the area. The lobby bar is another place not to miss. Beautiful music and incredible service. Relax and enjoy the experience of the Royal York. We were riding ViaRail to Jasper in two days and the station is across the street, what could go wrong. You could lose your passport and not notice until the train was ready to leave. I frantically ran back to the hotel and searched the room top to bottom, no luck. Back on the ground floor I stopped at a concierge desk and spoke to Sylvia Sultana, best decision I could have made. She IMMEDIATELY took control and explained the hotel procedures for lost items. She also asked where we had been and said she would contact them as soon as they opened. Frankly, I was not thinking clearly enough and the train was leaving in 20. This is only the beginning of all she did to try and find the lost passport. I received progress followup emails for the next week. This is service and professionalism at the highest level. We got lucky; we had no idea we were booking one of the most centrally located hotels in Toronto, and one of the most beautiful. The lobby is absolutely stunning, and the bar/restaurant area is always booming. The hotel staff were friendly and extremely professional. The room was comfy, and clean. This is a lovely property with a lot of history, going back to the first days of the Canadian Railway. The restaurants and bars are beautifully decorated and you can see the history at every turn. Stayed two nights at the Fairmont as I was working in town that week. The location is fantastic, and the lobby is beautifully decorated for the holiday season... but unfortunately, that's where the positive points end. The room was extremely outdated, with peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling and virtually no water pressure in the shower. On the second night, I couldn't sleep until 2 a.m. because of a group making a racket--loud music and shouting. I called reception, and while they said they would send security, they also suggested I use earplugs?! At the price guests pay, I found that response completely inappropriate. Security did come up, and the group turned the volume down momentarily, but minutes later, it was even louder. I've stayed in many hotels, and I've never experienced anything like this. I've stayed in nearly all of Toronto's high-end hotels, and this one is far behind the rest. I assume the hotel's historic reputation keeps it afloat, but for me, this experience was more than enough... I won't be returning. read more

The reception staff Wil at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. We did not want to spend on the Fairmont Gold, as it was foung to be doubke the price. So we booked a regular room with a king-size bed. The room size was okay. Bed was comfortable . We can hear people talking in the hallway. I think the doors are not insulated enough. The bathroom was a bit small but it was clean. The closet was super tiny. The location is super! Right across Union Station. Easy access to public transport. We took the train toeverywheree. Short walking distance to CN tower. Shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion is by Lelabo. I would book again at this location. There's a small takeout counter for coffee and pastries by the side of Reign restaurant. The croissant is delicious, and the cappuccino is good. First time staying overnight for a Staycation to celebrate milestones with friend. We booked via their website for a King room. When we arrived we were "upgraded to a renovated Queen room"... Not very impressed by that. But we were tired and it was late, so we just took it. The renovated room looked clean. Appliances and fixtures did look newer. Our room was missing a bathrobe though. With two guests, you'd expect two of them. But there was only one. And our bathroom was missing shampoo. So we had to call the concierge for assistance. In the morning we got room service for breakfast and that was great! Courteous service over the phone and in-room. The food was excellent and exceeded expectations. read more

minutes ago on Google Stayed three nights in August. Checked in at 2AM and was given a room literally attached to the elevator banks. The noise was constant. My room was not a discounted room and the location given was unacceptable for anyone to stay in. I'm not one to verbally complain to the front desk because it's not in my nature and after flying 8 hours and arriving at 2AM I wasn't about to be sent to another room. Is it possible that I was given this roommate because I'm from the United States and was given the impression that we are currently persona no grata in Canada with certain employees. In addition bathrooms are dated and extremely small. Beds were nice. read more

I recently had a one-night stay at this historical hotel and were it not for a few things I would probably have rated my stay with 5 stars. The location could not be any better, with the hotel conveniently located in front of the train station, at a walking distance from the CN Tower, the Aquarium and the Metro Toronto Convention Center, and with a lot of restaurants nearby. I arrived by taxi and had a lot of suitcases. To my surprise, there was no porter available to help. The reception is located on the upper floor and since I arrived at street level, I had to carry my heavy suitcases- one by one- across the stairs. When I made it to the top, I saw the porters having a jolly time in their little office and talking among themselves. I was pissed. The reception staff is great: they were professional and despite the longer than usual wait, I appreciated the interaction with them. The lobby is magnificent, with a gorgeous bar and a very "Old Europe" feel. My room was small but spotless clean. To be honest, for the rate I expected a much larger room but I was overall pleased with it. The bathroom is really small. There are amenities from Le Labo. I had to call room service because the wall-mounted shampoo bottle was empty so I would recommend they better inspect these things when they get rooms ready? Wow, this is a massive hotel and you could get lost as we did! But eventually got the hang of it. The lobby is beautifully decorated and grand. Our deluxe double room was very big and double the size of the regular room. We asked for a fridge and a microwave which they brought to us relatively quickly. The location is very convenient and we didn't need to walk outside much since the path was easy to access. We also took the subway which was right across the street. Overall, we had a lovely time! What a wonderful visit to Toronto thanks to the Staff of the Royal York ! There are 3 bars and so cool to people watch over a delicious cocktail/ nibbles! My favorite drink was the Penicillin ( off menu / but so well balanced). Dinner at Reign was outstanding / A Must and not your typical hotel in house dining experience. The Gold Floor was outstanding and one of the many highlights to enjoy your party's company in a relaxed well appointed space, complete with two fireplaces(Limited Access). Also, I stumbled across this amazing men's store Oliver Grey. Paul and Michael were friendly, not pushy, but extremely helpful. I found some amazing pieces that you'd never see in the US or most stores #OlliverGrey. Great casual and formal wear and reasonably priced for the quality level. Asked to ship if you don't want to fuss with lugging things home. I could go on , but highly recommend this property that is close to everything and centrally located in downtown Toronto! Rating 4.5 Everything about our one night staycation was fantastic. The missing half star only has to do with dietary needs and room keys that kept malfunctioning . When checking in there were at least 30 people ahead of us. We were not in a rush so it was fine. At checkin we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a gold suite room The room was spacious and comfortable with a view of Scotiabank centre etc. The lounge was so beautiful and had private checkin checkout for gold suite folks. They had treats at 2 pm, snacks at 5 pm, desserts at 8pm and breakfast in the mornings in the lounge. The Reign restaurant and bars in the lobby were always busy but lacked substantial gf vegan options in the bar. Same issue in the lounge but I was able to eat enough in the lounge. We had a wake up call with tea and croissants for hubby and I had gf muffins which were very good. They had a lovely Remembrance Day ceremony in the lobby. This hotel is aiight.... The staff is incredibly friendly which is a plus. Check in was easy, albeit a bit long if you want to sign up for a membership for free WiFi. The workers seem genuinely friendly when they pass you in the hallways It's a beautiful hotel if you're into historic decor. The location is also unmatched as it's right across the street from Union Station. In my mind the Fairmont should have all the bells of whistles of luxury and I just didn't get that feeling. Maybe I'm used to "Vegas" luxury so this felt under par. It definitely did not feel like it was worth the price. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The service is ghetto. There is no service. You cannot use their amenities- you have to be on a waitlist for their bars. My husband and I were invited to a friend's wedding in Toronto, and after finding an excellent deal on Expedia for the Fairmont Royal York ($207/night + taxes), we booked five nights. The Fairmont Royal York is a five star hotel with prices to match (we definitely cannot afford their regular prices), and the location is excellent -- right across the street from Union Station. The location could not be better. However, there were some flaws. While the room was nice and clean (they call it a "luxury suite", but I suspect they call all their regular rooms that), there is a gap around the door frame so that light seeps into the room. I am extremely sensitive to light at night (see my reviews for the "Executive Suites Hotel & Resort Squamish" and "Days Inn & Conference Centre by Wyndham Cranbrook"), and it really bothered me. Not only was the light very visible (and there was quite a lot of it), but due to the layout of the room and positioning of the bed (the head of the bed was across from the door), the light was right in my line of sight, hitting me directly in the face. Second, the room was so damn hot! There was air conditioning, but despite turning it to the lowest possible setting (18.5C), I could barely sleep with even a sheet, and I would wake up drenched in sweat. It didn't help that the bedding had a thick, down cover (I hate thick, down covers!). Due to being overheated, I did not have any really restful nights. Third, while you could thankfully not hear the people in the next room, you could hear every sound from the hallway. One night, at 3am, there was what sounded like a bunch of drunk guys at a bachelor party. It was extremely loud and went on for nearly half an hour. I know that assholes are not the hotel's fault, but it was SO LOUD, and that combined with the light and heat made me cranky. Due to those reasons, I was prepared to give the Fairmont Royal York three stars. However, due to weather conditions, my flight out was cancelled and I had to spend another night in Toronto, and based on my last night, I am bumping my rating up to 4.5 stars. On September 7th, my husband flew back to Vancouver, and I was to fly out to Louisville, KY, via Chicago, where I was to meet my sister for a short vacation. However, due to thunder storms, my flight to Chicago was cancelled, and there were no flights out that night; I had to spend another night in Toronto. I called the Fairmont from the airport and explained my situation, and asked if I could get a good rate, as I had just spent five nights there. They said they could give me a night at $189 + tax, so back I went. (Even though I was annoyed at the light, heat, and noise, it was easy to get back, and I figured I could get a good rate if I asked.) While there was still the heat and light issues, the staff were really accommodating. First, the great rate for the extra night; second, I needed to print notes for school. Due to Covid, the business center/printer was closed, but a staff member offered to print them out for me -- excellent service! In addition, the Fairmont advertises that WiFi is $15/night. I wasn't thrilled with this -- what hotel charges for WiFi these days?! However, I was pleasantly surprised that when my husband and I first checked in, we were given a WiFi code for free internet. The staff member checking us in said we were given complimentary WiFi because we were staying several nights, however I don't know if this was true, or if they advertise paid WiFi (maybe to keep out the riffraff), but it's really free. But whatever the reason, free WiFi was much appreciated and incredibly helpful, as the last morning of my unexpected stay, I was able to do some school work, which would not have been possible without WiFi. I didn't think much of the rooms back then but remembered the hotel being beautiful. We decided to give the Royal York another try and I am now in love with the hotel. The check-in staff was great, even if they weren't able to accommodate our requests, they were polite and sincere. It felt like they really wanted to help us out. The newly renovated rooms featured a nice big TV screen and chromecast so you can catch up on your Netflix shows. The rooms are modern and clean. The best part about the Royal York is that you can text the concierge which I found super convenient. Their response time was super quick and they were able to deliver items to my room efficiently. We also ordered room service for breakfast and although I wouldn't say it was the best food I've ever had, its not bad for room service breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people who are looking to pamper themselves with a trip to Toronto! read more

We stayed here for a fee nights after returning from Greece & while the location is great (in the middle of the action) & the lobby bar & restaurant (Reign) were top notch, the room itself (& especially the bathroom) were extremely disappointing. There was nothing luxurious about it at all. Not the terrible view, not the mediocre decor & def not the old, moldy shower in the bathroom. Although they did have Le Labo toiletries, even THOSE felt less luxurious since they were in huge pump bottles. I hear they have been going through renovations so maybe we just got unlucky but my boyfriend was told we had been upgraded so can't imagine what the room would have looked like otherwise. Stunning all around. It is old, historic, but well kept, perfectly located, all amenities you'd need, space to breathe. This hotel is MASSIVE. I toured & couldn't even make it around most of it. You can get lost...seriously. It has a mini museum which is very interesting. The pool area is classy. HOWEVER, depending on time of year perhaps kids can overtake the pools and hot tub. They do have adult hour. I love that there's a staffed concierge in the pool/gym area...open to close might I add. I love the signs they have around. They seem really concerned about your health/wellness/safety. The gym has good equipment & decent view. The changing room is nice has 3 large showers, 1 that is for handicap or really large people. Often showers are small so I'm sure that's appreciated. I was upgraded to a luxury (remodeled) room and it was nice, though very small. There were 4 restaurant bars in the hotel, easy walk to parking garage, shops, train stations all without walking outside in the extremity! I'd love to be a wedding singer here, I'm sure in the many ballrooms they have there are many weddings held. Gorgeous place. I highly recommend staying here. We declined house keeping because we were still in the room, later when we were leaving, Carmen a housekeeper was in the hallway and asked if we cared for house keeping, that extra step of service is what makes a hotel 5 stars. The bars were packed Friday night and the host at the Library was so nice to get us in earlier than everyone else because we were guests of the hotel. Everyone went over and beyond for us. Finally they gave us the keys - 25 minutes later. Next thing: we explicitly ordered an extra sleeper for our kid. Check in clerk acknowledged that. Yet two hours later there was no sleeper. And nobody was picking up the phone at the front desk. It took explicit visit downstairs, followed up by another phone call (!) for cot to appear. So does it look like 5 star hotel? read more

Just what you expect from an old downtown hotel: small rooms, paper thin walls, high prices, poor service. We were dropped off by taxi at the hotel drop off area. No doorman. No bellman. No elevator. Had to shlep four suitcases us the stairs. Bellman station at the top of the stairs, where two employees were behind the counter yucking it up. After being ignored for too long, I broke up the conversation between employees at the front desk to check in. The experience was Holiday Inn Express level. I remember when Fairmont staff used to come out from behind the counter, and make you feel special. Those days are gone. The room was clean, if cramped. Low water pressure, but at least the water was hot. The shampoo, conditioner and soap were in pump bottles mounted on the wall--just as classy as Hampton Inn! Only one bathrobe in the closet. Usually two in any upscale hotel I've stayed at, but this Fairmont is only upscale in price. The ONLY reason to stay here is that it's directly across the street from Union Station. We are traveling on the Canadian to Vancouver, and if that is your plan, you might book ONE night here. Otherwise, steer clear of this place. read more

This hotel was built as part of railroad expansion and was where current Queen slept when she last visited Toronto. There are photos and plaques saying so in the lobby. My housekeeper teared up telling me she was one of six chosen to service the room during the royal visit many years ago.! She was a wonderful staff member who gave me slippers and extra mugs when I needed them. The food at the on site restaurant was yummy. I had 3 appetizers including a mushroom dish that made my day. It's expensive but good. The location across from the railroad station is convenient. Why I rated this place only three stars was the expense, which was exorbitant IMO. No breakfast or Wi-Fi included, huge tax add ons, and fake milk packets if you make your own coffee using the in room Keurig I bought Tazo tea bags and milk for myself. When I made room in the mini fridge for the milk I saw many flashing lights. I later read a review and realized that the fridge is motion sensor activated. I called and got a fridge delivered and the staff removed the charges. I put the coke cans back and was not charged anything extra on checkout. But I didn't realize I could ask for a fridge from housekeeping until I noticed the Yelp review. Another thing that turned me off was the booming house music in the lobby bar which made conversation impossible. The music clashed with the luxurious 19th century feeling of the place as well as ruining the lobby experience for me. I stayed at the Fairmont Royal York over Christmas, and I loved the ambience, my room, the pool, the room service and the food. My only complaint is my pillow case smelled like the previous guest, however, that was quickly remedied. I would definitely return. read more

I attended the Royal York for a NYE wedding and booked a hotel overnight with my partner. We had a standard King room suite. that had a king sized bed, desk, and sitting area. It was the perfect amount of space for 2 people. The room was very clean, the staff were lovely and the rooms were quiet when we wanted to relax. In some hotels the walls seem so thin and you can hear everything in the hall or next door, but I didn't notice much noise which was nice. Check out was at noon, which was great and they even gave us a late checkout of 1pm. They made it easy for me to check out from my room. The hotel itself is grand and luxurious. Fantastic place to visit. Yasmin at the front desk was gracious and welcoming. Anthony was one of our favorite valets and immediately related to us. This hotel is historic, beautiful and a relaxing nook in the middle of a vibrant city. We will be back! read more
