As a participant in a peaceful demonstration supporting the Hibachi restaurant (which uses the 1 Hotel lobby for access), I had a concerning interaction with hotel staff. At approximately 1:30 PM, a hotel representative named Vish blocked my path and pushed me, nearly causing me to fall. This occurred despite the demonstration being silent, peaceful, and not impeding any hotel guests. The event ran from noon to 2:45 PM. I found the aggressive behavior from the hotel representative to be very unwelcome." HIBACHI IS STILL OPEN 550 Wellington Street West, Toronto OUR SIGN WAS REMOVED AND NEVER RESTORED. OUR ENTRANCE WAS BLOCKED FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS. OUR STREET NUMBER DISAPPEARED. CUSTOMERS THOUGHT WE WERE CLOSED. OUR SMALL BUSINESS SUFFERED MAJOR LOSSES. We stayed at the 1Hotel last weekend (two rooms for two nights each). I'm not exactly sure how to rate our stay because lots of things went wrong, but the hotel also tried to make up for their missteps. Let's start with the good: this hotel is beautiful, landscaping is lovely, service is friendly, location is great, rooms are clean, and the gym is nice. Now the not-so-great: our room was double booked which we learned when someone with a key walked in on us, there was a $29 destination fee per room, per night (which nobody disclosed to us upon check in), one our rooms had frosted glass which was odd and meant that we couldn't see outside unless we craned our necks. Additionally, everything we ate at the hotel was average at best Example: the avocado toast had some kind of premade spread instead of fresh avocado which wasn't tasty at all. It goes without saying that this hotel is expensive so I had high hopes! Like I said, the hotel tried to make up for things by offering food and beverage credits (which we declined because we already had so many through the Amex FHR program). Ultimately, they credited us the destination fees though, offered us another night on the house, and by their own volition credited one night back on one of the rooms. So 5 stars for their customer service! I'll likely give the hotel another try on my next trip...maybe we just came on an off weekend? read more

What would have otherwise been a five star experienced was a bit soiled by our arrival. We booked a large suite plus two other rooms, none of which were ready when we checked in. We had a meal at the restaurant in the hotel while we waited and a round of cocktails in the lobby and still we had to wait several hours after the check in time. We weren't checked in on or given an approximate time our rooms would be available, let alone offered a voucher for food. When our rooms were finally available, everything else was seamless. The rooms were gorgeous and overlooked a large deck where they offered yoga classes on some mornings. The whole hotel always smelled good and was a gorgeous place to return to night after night. The rooftop restaurant where we later had excellent espresso martinis one night and brunch the next morning was excellent. So other than the hiccup at check in I quite loved this hotel. read more

1Hotel Toronto is a modern and swanky hotel located in Downtown Toronto. I loved their focus on sustainability (using reclaimed wood in the hotel, no plastic, etc), as well as all the perks provided to hotel guests. I also loved how central this location was, and you could easily walk to the CN Tower, Rogers Centre (~15 minutes) as well as to restaurants and Kensington Market. Check in was super easy and fast, and they also use reclaimed wood for their hotel keys. I loved the minimalist but modern furniture in the rooms. All of the water in the hotel is filtered, and you can drink filtered water straight from their taps. They provided a ton of towels in the room, as well as robes, super comfy/soft slippers, and a kit with hand sanitizer, masks, and alcohol wipes. Each room has a small Nespresso machine and they provide coffee pods, and tea bags were also available. They also had a T3 professional hair dryer available in the bathroom, and a rain shower head. One of my favorite amenities was their steam room, located on the LL/Lower Level, in the women's bathroom of the gym (I'm assuming the men's bathroom had their own steam room). Their gym was amazing, and there was an impressive variety of machines and equipment, which included a punching bag and boardwalk-style belt treadmills. They also had fresh fruit available at the front desk in the mornings (tangerines, berries, apples, pears, plums) and fruit infused water. My other favorite amenity was the complimentary use of their town car, which was a Tesla S. You weren't able to book the car ahead of time, but could hop in if it was available in front of the hotel (they could drop you off anywhere within a 2.5km distance). One of my small complaints was that the walls of the shower were clear glass. They had a curtain you could draw to cover the shower, but it essentially blocked off half of the room (toilet, sink, Nespresso machine, etc). Also, the steam room didn't have any large towels available for use. Other than this, I had an awesome stay, and would highly recommend the 1Hotel Toronto (if you're not looking for a budget stay). Their staff was great, and super friendly and helpful. Note: Parking in this area is really tough, and there was construction going on in the immediate area during my stay (September 2022). Unethical business practices. Stay away. Stayed here a few weekends ago. During checkout, the bellman dropped one of our bags on the ground while moving them to our car. I wouldn't normally complain about this, but it was a Gucci bag worth $5000, and it was damaged in the process. I went directly for the manager that morning, who took a statement from the bellman, who was apologizing profusely. I told him it was ok, accidents happen, but I would need them to reimburse me for the damage. I filled out a report and included a photo of the damage. I was contacted by management the next week, informing me that because there was no video of the bag being dropped, they couldn't honor my claim or reimburse me. While that may be true, you also have that statement from the bellman, who I'm assuming they fired to make the story "go away". I thought about suing, but since the hotel is thousands of miles away, I didn't want the hassle. All in all though, I found this incredibly slimy and slumlord-like. Exactly what I paid premium rates to try to avoid. Will never again do business with any 1 hotel. I urge you to reconsider if you are thinking of staying at any of their properties. read more

I arrived at the hotel very early and Matthew was outstanding! His customer service and kindness was very much appreciated. He took the time to show me two hotel rooms because I thought I booked a different room. Thank you, Matthew. Room 707 was perfect. The turn down service and housekeeping was great. Harriet's is a nice place to hang out and they have hood drinks. I visited Casa Madera on Sunday night. The place is beautiful! It's definitely a see and be seen spot. Service could of been better. Not sure if it was because it was very busy. I will review the restaurant separately. The hotel was 5/5. read more

I really enjoyed my stay here. the staff is lovely and very attentive and helpful. the fruit up for grabs was my favorite sneak & I even went to the gym to work out the cheese curds and poutine I ate during my stay in Toronto. I don't know what type of room I got but it was a corner option w/ an alley of floor to ceiling windows that was a delight... I slept in and enjoyed my hours inside the room because it felt like a cozy nest - why would I want to leave all this coziness? Also, the bedding and mattress... I forgot to look at the brand of mattress & bedding.. I told myself "look" but I was sooo lazy in my coziness that I didn't. loved the 1! read more

This hotel is amazing! While walking around Toronto we stopped into 1 Kitchen, and was so impressed by the brunch menu, the attentive and genuinely friendly wait staff. Afterwards she went out of her way to show us the lobby ---we did not know that 1 Kitchen was part of 1 Hotel! The hotel hobby bar is the most calming gorgeous bar I have ever seen. So we went walking about and then came back to the bar to have a quiet drink, and we were completely charmed by the bartender, Conner, who loves his job, loves the teamwork at 1 Hotel, and who is so genuinely delighted to be of service to his guests. Gosh we shook hands, and invited him to visit us in the States when he visits ---he says we made his day ---gosh we loved the whole experience, and wished we lived here so we can go back often. read more

The vibes is what's great about this place. The local musicians doing popular cover songs were really great. They were in their own zone serenading the entire first floor. The dim lighting and natural earthy accessories set the mood for a relaxed evening. 1 Hotel is the perfect place to chill and sip on flavorful cocktails while you wait for your reservations at the Rooftop restaurant Harriet's. Stayed here for work and loved it. It's so nice to spend every day out, slammed with work and then come back to a hotel that's so calming, clean and inviting. Room was fantastic. My girlfriend and I LOVED our stay here! Highlights for me were the tarot reading (the girl who did it was awesome), the restaurants in the hotel were amazing and also they have a few Tesla's that take you anywhere within 4km of the hotel that you'd like to go to. Their gym was also amazing and their staff was very friendly and helpful. We've been traveling all over for past 20 years. This is the 2nd time I walked into a room and felt as if no one ever stayed here before. Clean, smells good and crisp. One of the best hotel I've ever visited. Doesn't look like much from the street, but once you walk in your are in for a treat. From The staff at the door to the front desk (Meli and Joe are wonderful), to all people you encounter at the hotel, you are treated like you are the most important guess they've had. Food is top quality. Don't miss Harriet (rooftop) and Casa Flora. Breakfast is PERFECT. You want coffee or juice in the morning? Order online and it's ready for pickup at the bar in minutes. The only pool in the city with a two tiered class system and a time limit (was an excuse during COVID but it continues). 90 min time limit that only applies to the lower class plebs while first class guests (VIPs sent by the executive team) or people willing to spend $100/head don't have the same rules apply to them. They will make you sit on the floor for hours while they hold beds in reserve for their VIPs who eventually do not even show up. Terrible, rude and condescending managers. If you want to go here check your self respect at the door and be prepared to grovel to the power mad pool staff. Do not recommend - you'd be better off grabbing a 6 pack and going to the park instead of dealing with this non-inclusive class system. #cancel1hotels read more
