The proprietor was amazingly friendly and knowledgable and really helped me relax about the dress choosing process. I was referred to Jayna of Bobbin Ventures and The Dress when my bridal salon (La Soie) closed just weeks before my wedding and no longer had a seamstress for me. The ladies at La Soie referred me to Jayna because they had heard of other brides who had wonderful experiences with her and were able to get their dresses altered for much less than the La Soie seamstress charged. I came in to Jayna with little more than a month before my wedding and in a bit of a frenzy because I had just learned that I no longer had the seamstress that I even had previously planned appointments with. She said she could absolutely do all of the alterations in the time we had and calmed my nerves. I brought in my Enzoani Gloria dress, which is an A line silk chiffon dress. I needed my dress taken in on the sides, shortened a little, and also needed a bustle and cups put in. She did all of the above and even suggested changing the back of the dress a little bit, which made the dress absolutely perfect. She took measurements, asked what I wanted done, and told me to come back in two weeks--leaving about two weeks left before my wedding. When I came in for the fitting--not at all expecting it to be perfect--I was delighted to find that the dress fit absolutely perfectly after just one fitting. She did a fabulous job and the price was reasonable. I cannot say enough good things. I would recommend her to my closest friends. Thank you Jayna! read more

Even though there were styles that I wouldn't necessarily wear, they all still looked beautiful! My first appointment was great! Jayna is so welcoming and friendly, she makes the appointment totally relaxed and fun. She is honest about what dresses wouldn't look great on (and she was right!) No pressure to buy/order on spot which I especially appreciated. I ended up saying yes to a lace dress! I wanted a few extra things on the dress altered, like a champagne layer added behind the lace and crinoline added inside to make the bottom more shapely. All are being done for a great price. I took a dress I purchased from another store and Jayna transformed it with her alterations. She shortened my train significantly, tightened a few areas, including the straps, and added a bustle. The bustle was so easy to figure out after my ceremony was over. I also purchased my veil there. I had literally NO IDEA what i was looking for when i came into the dress. Most girls at least have some sort of pintrest picture they like, or an idea of what they always wanted... not me. I bought my wedding dress elsewhere, and after purchasing the dress and then losing weight it was swimming on me by the time it came. I didn't want to take the dress to just any tailor and The Dress gets great reviews. When I made the appointment online Jayna was very up front about her pricing and her workload. Luckily my wedding was months away so she could fit me in since she keeps busy altering dresses she sells in her shop. (She has a beautiful selection of modern, stylish dresses.) The Dress was able to alter my sleeve lace dress to take 1" off either side at the waist, take up the sleeves, take it in from the top of the shoulders, remove the boning inside the bust and sew on a gorgeous jeweled belt. Jayna was attentive and thorough at the first consultation and the dress was perfect at my first fitting. She and her other seamstress were also able to press the skirt and moderately stretch the lace layer to extend the length. Awesome! When my skirt shipped late from the manufacturer, she worked around the clock to finish all of the alterations in less than 72 hours, so that I could get my dress in time for the wedding - this included shortening the train, adding a bustle, and taking in a lot of material, including a heavily beaded portion. Wedding dress shopping has been a serious pain. I made the mistake of going to David's Bridal (no comment) and various other places and wasn't sure what to do. I walked up to the beautiful hole in the wall studio, looked into the window and thought "There it is!" No pressure at all. Her prices are fair and she handles alterations. (Depending on her schedule, she'll even alter dresses purchased elsewhere.) My daughter had one appointment, tried on several dresses and found one she liked, but she wasn't ready to commit. After visiting another place and striking out, she decided to return. The second time in the shop was just as pleasant and low key as the first. Several more dresses later, my daughter returned to the dress she liked the first time around. I highly recommend Jayna and The Dress as a perfectly lovely bridal shopping experience in Santa Barbara. I was convinced I was going to wear vintage at my wedding. On my first outing to look at wedding dresses (a week after we got engaged) I made an appointment at The Dress on a whim to appease my mom and sister in law. Turns out it was the best decision. As many other reviewers have mentioned, Jayna is a great human and her shop is amazing. The dress that ended up being my wedding dress was one of many different styles I tried on. I didn't know what I wanted but I knew I wanted straps. I even tried the skirt and top trend which I adore but didn't like on me. I'm one that didn't get that immediate "I'm a bride" gushy moment when I put on the dress. The whole day of dress shopping was fairly overwhelming. I was lucky enough to purchase a sample dress on sale. And we decided to shorten it to tea length for that vintage feel. We bought the dress in January and took it home thinking that the wedding wouldn't be until June 2017 so it was too early to alter. In February we decided "why wait" and changed the date to June 2016, to the 4 year anniversary of our blind date instead of the 5th. So my mom and I lugged the dress back to Jayna for the alterations and she was able to fit us in seamlessly for at least 2 fittings (its all a blur already) to get the length and poof just right. She was so patient during those evening fittings with my mom and I- there's a lot of intricacies to being a bride that constantly had me asking questions.
