We stay here for the bar we love so much but here we are 4th day & can't get anywhere near the bar ! It's so annoying that we pay to stay here & can't get a drink at the dridkill bar as paying customers, there should be a rule that if you don't have a room key bar should be for hotel guests first !! I tried 3 weeks out to book a Valentine's Day reservation for dinner and everything was booked! I was lucky to get a place for cocktails early in the night and tickets to a show late at night but completely struck out anywhere around the area for a dinner in the middle. So our plan was to just go and see what we could find. We uberred to a destination and our driver dropped us here.. not where we wanted to go... and as we stood outside getting cold we decided to step into the Driskill Bar to stay warm and see if we could figure out where we were going. Have you been to the Driskill Bar? If you have not you need to go! Once we walked in, we were greeted by the friendliest of people, and told to grab any open seat... so we looked at each other and decided to stay. There was live music, a large seating area and the atmosphere was lively, extravagant, lush and dripping with class... The venue is beautiful! Of course it is... it is part of the Driskill! To our surprise we found some very comfy seats and were shown not only a drink menu but also a dinner menu... we had found our spot to get a meal. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates (simply delectable with a great combination of salty and sweet) and some Brussel sprouts. Brussel sprouts are a new love of mine... when done well and they don't just stink... these were done well!! They were crispy and sweet with a slight char... delicious! Our drinks were strong... our service on point and the whole time turned out to be a wonderful surprise! It was a fantastic touch in between an already outstanding evening! I have truly never considered the Driskill Bar as a night out location... but it will be on my list from this point forward! read more

4 stars for a great, old-school cocktail spot with live music and leather, animal pelts, and guns as decor. This hotel is absolutely beautiful and has a history worth looking in to (including a haunting?!?). We walked straight up to the bar to enjoy the atmosphere with a drink and we were not disappointed. On the cocktail side, I'd highly recommend. I ordered a wet gin martini with two olives and got exactly what I wanted. Lots of vermouth (mmmm!). My partner got a Boulevardier and thoroughly enjoyed his cocktail too. The glasses were all the same for the cocktails, but the concoctions inside were spot-on! Besides that, the atmosphere was old Austin. Lots of animal pelts, stained glass, leather chairs, and gold ceiling tiles. Over the top, but had the goods to justify it. There was also a band the night we were there, playing retro tunes. It was a hit! We ordered some bacon wrapped dates and loaded fries (both worth having, if only to SoCal up the alcohol) and stuck around for a show. Great hotel bar with history and a cool vibe. This place is fantastic. I'm in from New York and am sooo happy I came down here to eat. Our server Dayana (and Pedro) are two of the nicest, most courteous and helpful people. It was just fries with melted cheese. The stuffed dates were okay--bacon could've been cooked more. The service was just meh too. Our server was friendly, but slow to come around, and chose to yell at us from a distance instead of walking the 20 steps to our table. They had a live jazz band the bar again was super old and the place is just historic so it's a must see when your in town. It was all very clean I like that and people were chilling. If Don Draper went to Austin, he'd be found in the Driskill. This is a man's bar but a sophisticated man's bar. It's dark, there's cattle taxidermy, bronze horses, oak walls, just manly. It's not the type of place to order a Miller Lite, you get a cocktail. The ladyfriend actually wanted to come here and she planned for us to be here at happy hour but I think we screwed that up somehow. Regardless we found a table off in a corner and ordered bar snacks and cocktails. I had an Old Fashioned and followed it up with a Manhattan. Both were perfect and fit the environment even if my ball cap, cargo shorts and New Balance sneakers didn't. We also had truffle buttered popcorn and some chips and queso dip. I wanted the house made beef jerky and still regret passing on this. I can't wait to go back to Austin. Next time I'll stay at the Driskill hotel, eat at the restaurant and dress more appropriately for the bar. I won't let you down Don Draper! read more

I just moved to town so when my aunt and uncle came, I didn't have a lot of recommendations of what to see and do. My uncle found the Driskill, the oldest hotel in Austin, and I believe in Texas. Cool spot, and they have a bar with a decent happy hour, so we checked it out. We were served by the lovely Sarah. She was great, always keeping our waters filled and constantly checking on us. That made the experience all the better. I had a $4 Pearl Snap which is a good price for such a cool place. There was live music going, and I think I saw a schedule where they have music 7 nights a week? My aunt had the Carlotta cocktail which was spicy and strong. I'd happily recommend this or get it myself if I didn't want a beer. Pretty awesome they have happy hour on weekends and the late night happy hour Mon-Wed. I'll definitely be back for drinks. We also tried the loaded hand-cut fries which were unexpectedly good, and the bacon wrapped medjool dates which were good but it's not really my thing. We ended up back for another round later on and Sarah was gone and we got pretty poor service, hence no 5 stars. It felt like we were bothering our server with everything we asked for, even when she forgot things we had already asked for. read more

The one star is for the atmosphere and decor of the historic bar at the Driskill. Tried to get a glass of wine at the bar at 9:15pm Monday 27, 2021. Was told they were closed and to try the hotel next door, The Aloft. The Aloft was able to accommodate as we suspected. We are staying at the Driskill and we have Hyatt loyalty status. Sunday night the bar was open until past 10:00pm. There were just as many customers and it appeared there was just as much staff as Sunday night. The bartender that told us to leave was just as rude last night as he was tonight. An "off night" for an employee happens but 2 nights in a row? This is not acceptable. I spent my 35 year career in customer service and, I realise good help is hard to find, especially now. Hyatt or Diskill hotel management needs to reevaluate this employees position in the company, take appropriate corrective action, find a non-customer facing position or terminate his employment.
