Cute concept and we loved the old-fashioned drive-in idea, but the experience didn't quite deliver. The wait was fairly long, and a car pulled up next to us with people smoking, so up went our windows and there went the nostalgic drive-in vibe. Customer service was a little lackluster. We tried the veggie burger, fries, and cheese curds. The burger was alright, the fries were dry and could definitely use some seasoning, and the cheese curds were chewy with an odd texture. We dined here for lunch while on a mini day trip to Taylor Falls. It took awhile to get seated and once we sat it took awhile to even get drinks, but that was the only hiccup we had. Once we got our root beer floats we were happy campers. I read that they make the root beer daily, the buns are from a local bakery, and the meat from a local butcher which is super awesome. The burger was absolutely amazing. I haven't had a good burger like that in a minute since most places seem to do smash burgers lately. My son had a chicken strip kids meal that came with a generous portion including a cookie and drink plus a side. Our family all enjoyed the classic music, and I thought the poodle skirts were fun! Cold fries overcooked cheese curds. Them they brought the cheese curds and didn't bring any drinks for another 20 minute when the rest of are food came. Had a sit down late lunch/early dinner at the drive in on a Saturday night and we were able to get seated quickly. I ordered the turkey burger, it was juicy with a lot of flavor, I like that it comes with provolone cheese. The waffle fries aren't on the menu, you have to ask for them and it is a +$2.75 up charge and they don't have seasoned sour cream. After arriving we found a nice table that was capable of accommodating our rather large group. It was in the shade and provide a safe space for my grandfather, who suffers from Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease where healthy skin cells attack each other and cause inflammation and rashes all over the body, typically worsening in the sun and heat. After seating we were immediately moved to a hotter and sunnier spot, making it no longer safe for my grandfather. Rather than accommodating us, the staff was rude and disrespectful when asked politely to move due to our circumstance. Will not be coming back and I do not recommend you do. read more

After our hike, my friend, her daughter and I decided to stop by The Drive In for a burger and to play mini golf. The place is retro, so it's a nice little throwback for those that miss places like this. Their root beer is house made and they do charge you more if you want it in the glass mug. Be aware that there are lots of bees in the outdoor dining area! If you get a root beer, you will have 2 at your table for the majority of the time. So if you're allergic to them, keep this in mind. I wasn't bothered that much because I don't really mind. I ordered the all American burger with sweet potato fries. I really liked my burger, it was incredibly tasty, meat was delicious and the onions in combination with the sauce were perfection. The sweet potato fries were a bit over cooked, in my opinion. They tasted a little burnt. My friend didn't like her grilled chicken sandwich, she said it didn't taste like much. Stopped here after hiking with the dogs along the St Croix River. What a dandy little place! Current owners have had it for 35 years and family was working today as car hops. If you like miniature golf, they also own the course right next door. The Frostop root beer was a portal back to childhood and is made I. House. I think it's very cute how the servers dress up like if it was the 1950s! These burgers taste very much home made and unfortunately lack in flavor with almost all the food we've tried there. If you're looking for a classic drive-in atmosphere, this is the place. However, be warned this place gets crazy busy and the bees are awful. Service was good - everyone was kind and the food was pretty quick. It was nice we were able to get our appetizers before the rest of the meal! We started with onion rings and fried green beans. Loved the onion rings, green beans were just ok for me. They're in a more unique batter that's very thick - I wish they had been beer battered but that's just my preference! I tried a friend's root beer and that was the star of the show. I've never had a root beer that tasted so rich and creamy - a MUST try even if you get nothing else. I got just a regular cheese burger, nothing special. It was tasty but really only a small step up from a fast food joint. We also didn't get to choose how cooked ours were, so some people had more raw burgers than others. I tried a friend's fries and was super disappointed in them, tasted like freezer fries. For a place known for shakes, you would think they'd have great fries for dripping. Finally, we ordered a vanilla and chocolate malt. Vanilla was sweet, creamy and delicious! Extremely disappointed in the chocolate, it was barely chocolate (you can even tell from the color in the picture). My boys and I went to Osceola to ride the fall colors train and decided to get a bite in the area! This drive in diner is absolutely adorable! The vibes here are completely on point! You can either drive up and get service right to your car, or go sit on their very large patio! The servers were all wearing 50's pink skirts and were extremely friendly!! As far as the food goes, I would give this place 3 stars (I added a star because of the friendly service and fun vibes!) The fries were so bland, they were crispy tho. The hot dog was dry and tasted like it had been on a roller all day. The cookie was rock hard. The burger was average. Nothing to write home about and again pretty bland. First time at a drive in burger spot. Appreciate the old school theme. The burgers here are decent. Thick burgers cooked medium well. We got the All American and it was delicious. We ordered a "basket" for the fries and root beer deal, but it didn't actually come with that many fries unfortunately. The root beer was pretty good though. We also had the honey mustard chicken sandwich and a side of cheese curds . The piece of chicken we got was like the size of chicken tender. Was a little disappointing. The cheese curds used yellow (American?) cheese which we weren't expecting and came with a ranch dipping sauce. They weren't too bad, but we would have preferred the ones with white cheese and with marinara on the side. Also, we ordered the cheese curds as an appetizer, but the waitress forgot to enter it and we got it after we it after finishing everything else. The hostess sat us and we asked the server to move us to some empty tables closer to the mini golf and small pond they had about 10 - 15 yards away. My partner and I thought we would enjoy it more than sitting near the dirty brick wall. The server said she would ask the hostesses- returning shortly later we were told "There is a long line at the hostess desk. We're really busy and want you to stay here". Besides the fact that we waited more than 30 minutes for two hamburgers and did not get napkins, I proceeded to watch the tables stay empty for the remainder of our meal. I snapped a photo of the empty tables near the end of our meal and a few minutes later I was informed our server had changed to a new girl. Overall, a pretty disappointed by the experience. I would have accepted the truth that maybe moving tables is a hassle, but lying to me just makes me annoyed by the situation. In business - especially food service - the customer experience is king. This place is super cool and retro with drive-in options, outdoor seating options, and huge mug of root beer spinning in the parking lot. We had a very large party (10) and they were able to squeeze us in at a large picnic table in the back immediately. The menu is very standard American food: burgers, tenders, fries, milkshakes, and their very own house-made root beers. Surprisingly, a great number of vegetarian options also! I decided to go for the chicken tender basket since that was all I could think about while hiking. I got it with honey mustard sauce. The tenders were good, very crispy, a little bit dry, but overall pretty good. The fries were crinkle and very solid. Overall, pretty good meal! The bathroom options are extremely poor, only 2 stalls for the entire restaurant + mini golf course so there was a line of 10 people to use the bathroom basically the whole time we were there. read more
