First, the smell of intoxicating yummiest hits you as soon as you walk in. They had a great variety between sweet treats in the left display in a variety of breads on the right along with a board in the back that displayed all of their different choices. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable. I decided to take my items to leave as it was a nice day. When I got into the car and opened them up, I couldn't resist but to take a bite of the apple strudel hence the bite in the picture. Stopped by this bakery on a Saturday morning. Super cute bakery with a good selection of coffees, pastries, breads, and assorted treats. The two women working there were very friendly and welcoming. No sit down option inside, possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We ordered two coffees and two croissants, 1 plain and the other spinach feta. Coffee was good. Unfortunately the croissants were cold and not flakey. The spinach and feta had a tiny bit of filling in the middle but otherwise a plain croissant. I am not sure if there was an option to have them heat these for us, as we were not offered and didn't ask. I am a huge croissant lover and connoisseur and was sadly disappointed as the texture was more like a roll than a buttery delicate croissant. I would go back to try their breads and pastries as they looked good and we didn't have enough of their food to judge them too hard! read more

They are smaller than previously and more expensive- as is everything these days. But these are not even 8 inches as advertised. However, I have rarely found the DE's, White Cakes, to be this way. I also LOVE their slices of White Cake. I travel to The Dutch Epicure, to get my White Cake slice, fix every now and then. Yes!! They use Buttercream (white) frosting. NO!! They do not bake out all the fat! content. But....sometimes, they have White Cake slices topped with buttercream, lined with real fruit fillings! YUMMO! Sometimes, they have white cake slices, filled only with buttercream frosting! YUMMO! Either way, I get my white cake slice, fix. By the way, DE's Christmas Stollen, is beyond compare. Buttery, dried fruit filled. Thick - wrapped layers of dried fruit, goodness. Unreal! Worth every penny! The staff are just wonderful there. This tiny and unassuming place is one of the best hidden gems of Southern NH - and well worth driving out of your way for. Breads, cakes, and pastries here are the 'real thing' - carefully and artfully prepared by hand with no shortcuts. We're talking real cream and butter here, folks, not 'chocolate flavor coating' and never tubs of greasy frosting. The folks that work here are artisans of their craft and it shows in the loving attention to detail. I can't speak to the quality of their cakes, as I have yet to purchase one. But, their individual pastries are not just treats for the eye - they're the types of things you eat in silence, eyes closed in bliss. In addition to their many daily prepared pastries and breads, a roster of special flavored breads changes daily. Their Irish Soda bread is available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - that alone is worth driving to this bakery, as it is expertly prepared with a dusting of delicate and crunchy sugar on the top crust. I have no idea if it's 'authentic', but, it's definitely delicious. In addition to their divine baked goods, there's also a case of artisinal cheeses. The selection is petite but changes frequently, and I've purchased some unusual and memorable local cheeses here. Occasionally, they even stock dried wild mushrooms for the adventurous gourmet to try out. They're closed on Mondays. I came here and got a pastry and a lemon cheesecake. My pastry was filled with whipped cream but had no cake portion. The cheesecake seemed underbaked. It was still wet inside. They gave me a free chocolate french macaron which was very nice. Would maybe try again but don't recommend the cheesecake. read more

I needed a small but great birthday cake for a family dinner the night of my wife's 40th birthday. We are trying to cut out sweets so I only wanted a small cake that would not leave us with a lot leftover. I got a Chocolate Truffle Cake that hit the spot. It was so rich but the cake was small (i got the smallest size) so you could just enjoy the decadence without reaching the saturation point we would have reached had the pieces been larger. It was the first time using this bakery. I chose it because of the gluten free option. I ordered a cake for my daughter's surprise birthday party. The cakes on the website looked amazing. I showed them pictures of a few possible options and they said it was no problem as they were similar to what was on their website. While my cake was pretty, it was very plain and not like the pictures at all or what I asked for. When I picked up the cake and looked at it, the girl at the counter noticed my reaction. I told her that it was very plain and not what I asked for. While she offered to bring someone out from the back, it was too late as I had to bring the cake up to the venue before I picked my daughter up at school. When we cut the cake at the venue, the party coordinator had a really hard time cutting it. The cake was crumbling and falling apart and the chocolate part of the cake was burnt. We're avid cooks and bakers in my home. Just the other day we had plans for my significant others birthday that were scrapped at the last minute. Without enough time to bake a cake myself, I found the Dutch epicure and gave them a shot for a last minute cake. MY GOD! What an incredible find. I chose a vanilla/raspberry/butter cream cake that was on the Pre-made shelf with little expectation. We're snobs towards baked goods, as I said we do quite a bit of baking in our home. 90% of pre-made cakes I've found are covered in dense, sugar filled, nearly fondant-like icing, and thick mass produced boxed cake and processed jelly's and low quality fruit fillings. I'm not over exaggerating when I say my fiancé could not stop eating this cake. She's proclaimed it the best cake she's ever had(not from our kitchen). The cake was light and fluffy, the raspberry compote/filling was tasteful and fresh, and the frosting was creamy and out of this world. I've had baked goods from high profile places in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, and many more. This bakery is on par with some of the best I've ever had. For a little establishment in Nashua, NH and as I said, expectations were low. I am so glad I was wrong. My two stars are based mainly on customer service. My friend's daughter-in-law wanted to surprise her with a cake. She contacted me looking for nearby bakeries that I could pick the cake up from and I gave her a list of three. She choose The Dutch Epicure. When I walked in the door, I wasn't greeted...more like avoided. It was odd. When I approached the counter I told them I was there to pick up the cake. She went into the back room and returned and said, it's not supposed to be done until 10. (it was 9:30) Now I would have expected her to say, we have coffee and yummy things...but no. I said Oh I guess I have to wait another 30 minutes. She just nodded. So I went and sat in my car. When I spoke with the person who had ordered the cake, she told me that originally she had said 10 am, but because of my schedule she called and told them between 9:15 and 9:30...apparently no one made a note of that. So I sat in my car for 20 minutes, came back inside...again wasn't greeted. I wandered around looking at the baked goods, another woman came in and she wasn't greeted either which made me feel a little better, at least it wasn't just me! It wasn't until 9:59 that they brought the cake out and THEN the woman behind the counter was all chatty and nice. Really?? As for the cake, it was okay. The butter cream tasted a little too buttery and there was more filling than cake - like 3/4" of filling and 1/3" of cake...just odd. The decorations were pretty. I'm not certain I would recommend them again based on customer service alone. If you can't be bothered to greet a customer when they walk in, I can't be bothered to go to your place of business. read more

Some of the best pastries I have had anywhere. I agree that the swan cream puff is special. There's a layer of melted chocolate on the bottom, some berry something, and fresh whipped cream. I used this bakery for my baby shower cake. They were economic compared to other bakeries I got quotes from and most importantly it tasted great! People wouldn't stop telling me how much they loved the cake. One of my friends even told me it was her new favorite cake. The design was beautiful , very similar to what I asked for and showed them. I had a great experience with them and would definitely be using them for future events.
