Buckley's is never bad, it just isn't great coffee. The bakery is fantastic and the desserts and things are top tier. Whenever I have special events I come here to pick up a few cookies, whoever decorates is very talented and the cookies are amazing. When it comes to food I sadly don't eat the food here bc most of it is prepared grab and go style, and that means I can't ask for no cheese. Recently purchased a carrot cake for Easter from their bakery. A bit disappointed to find that there was NO frosting on the side of the cake (their on-line photo shows that there is frosting) and that the bottom layer of the cake was dry. Other than that, nothing else changed because it "has been" a good cake in the past...just not sure about the future. read more

The display of bakery items look good. I decided to try their raspberry tart. I was very disappointed because it tasted like when you leave a bakery item in the fridge. First thing I noticed is the cream on top had an off taste consistent with leaving something in the fridge uncovered. The shortbread crust was mushy instead of like a crisp shortbread cookie indicative of being left in the refrigerator too long. Finally the raspberry topping was too sugary for my taste. In the area to attend a friend's baby shower and stopped by for breakfast. Got a chai latte and the new Irish breakfast sandwich. Gotta say, service was great (No surprise from an Autumn, shout out! =) ) the sandwich was delicious and the chai was also very very flavorful. Also, they were fast. Like, incredibly fast. Yes, friends! It's another house turned into a restaurant, complete with multiple dining rooms that look like home and even a gift shop by the front entrance. But you're probably wondering....does the food measure up with the décor? Well.. Much to our delight, the evening's dinner was better than anticipated. Not quite top notch, but...let's just say we may have finally found a prime rib that's worth its weight in water because it actually has SOME seasoning. Granted, that implies it needed a bit more but...at this point, we'll take what we can get, right? I should mention now that when we get in, service was a bit...spaced out, gap wise. We'd essentially wait like, 10 to 15 minutes before the server came back for drink orders. What's worse is we apparently had two servers anyway. Which means service should have been twice as fast. I dunno...perhaps my math is off a bit here, but...two times one = ?...eh..moving on. We start the evening off with a couple of Caesar salads which...ain't half bad. Croutons could have been slightly more bite sized and less stale. There could have been a touch more dressing, too. Not overwhelming so to the point of soggy lettuce or anything. Just...more than a spritz. Flavor was fine, though. 7 out of 10, would *probably* get it again. Now then. The main course. Both the wife and I ended up getting the same thing: the slow roasted prime rib. We got different sides, which we'll talk about in a minute. BLUF: the prime rib was better than we expected, but certainly not perfect. For one thing, we expected them to serve the au jus in its own cup (like you do). But no...this place simply allows the au jus to rest comfortably at the bottom of your plate. Not too elegant, but it still gets the job done. Plus, I like to dip parts of my baked potato in there anyway so....still a tasty win. As I briefly mentioned earlier, this prime rib still needed some seasoning. The good thing about that, however, is that it actually augmented the beefy flavor. Few sprinkles of salt here and there, and it was everything I thought it could be. The only minor problem I have is availability of certain cuts. You see, prime rib has to be prepared ahead of time. So, the later you arrive, the harder it is to get cuts of beef that are less well done and more towards the rarer side. I prefer my beef mid-rare. Unfortunately, so does about 85% of the prime rib eating population, evidently. Needless to say, I got stuck with a medium cut...which still ended up tasting pretty good. Even the edges which were mid-well, still ended up tasting juicy and full of flavor. So, while it doesn't hold a candle to the prime rib we used to get in Texas, this one's a workable 8 out of 10 for me. Wifey decided to be the guinea pig and try the truffle fries. Now, when you hear the term "truffle fries", you expect....fries, right? What we got looked less like fries and more like unrecognizable, over greased potato crisps. Not only that, they technically had too much truffle (yeah...I actually said that). I mean, they weren't completely terrible. Just not what we were expecting. The real tragedy here is they tasted of grease more than anything. Anyways, 5 out of 10, would not recommend, unless you have an oral fetish for grease infused potato crisps. Tell you what though. It basically made the baked potato I had stand out as being bad ass. They gave me plenty of butter and sour cream to work with, so I was a happy camper. 8 out of 10. I also decided to take a chance on the sautéed mushrooms, which....*sigh*....I'll never understand why these are always somehow a hit or miss with steakhouses. But, here we go. The good news is these aren't the inexplicably sweet mushrooms you get in some places. The bad news is....they had no real seasoning to speak of. At all. In fact, they literally tasted like...well....mushrooms. If you don't understand why that's a bad thing, let me break it down for you. Imagine you buy a carton of mushrooms from the grocery store. You want to cook them on the stove top, so you decide to do so with just canola oil or some type of unsalted butter. You put no additional seasonings in there whatsoever and serve it as is. That's what these things tasted like. It's as if someone just picked them out the ground that morning, then threw them straight into the pan without so much a thought of washing them, adding ANY seasoning, thought, or anecdote of culinary common sense. What I'm saying is these mushrooms were a total waste of time and the recipe for which needs to be unequivocally reevaluated like...YESTERDAY! 1 out of 10. Just...do better, guys. Despite minor set backs though, this place is worthy of 4 thick cuts of mid-rare prime rib with a juicy, beefy flavor out of 5. We already discussed returning, if only to try one of their steaks next time. read more

While searching for the greatest breakfast sandwich in NH , Buckleys is already making a strong case for top 5. Everything on the menu for Bfast sandwiches sounds so good it's actually hard to pick for me but today I went with the new Irish Breakfast sandwich which had a big egg , cheese , and brisket and it was unreal! Hot coffee complimented it as well greatly . The service is quick and the restaurant itself is a large house turned into a cafe including a full upstairs to go and work or take a load off ! A little too early in the morning to go to the office, I stopped at Buckey's for coffee this morning. This is a bakery and they have a ton of delicious looking baked goods. Sadly, none of those will work on my keto diet. So a coffee it was and it was a good coffee. Rich and needing only the tiniest bit of cream. Condiments area was tidy and had a good selection of dairy and non-dairy options. Most of the cafe is upstairs where they have a large seating area with several tables. All of Mike Buckley's places are great and there is not much you can complain about. The sandwiches at the cafe are very good HOWEVER WAY too much mayo. Roast beef, Turkey, etc. The sandwich person goes wild with the mayo. Not sure what he/she is thinking. read more

Buckley's Bakery & Cafe was such a wonderful surprise. We drove here thinking it's going to be just another ordinary cafe out in Merrimack but they're anything but. This bakery has a variety of freshly baked goods, prepared food, a list of unique beverages and it smells pretty darn amazing here. Even though there were a lot of customers, don't be overwhelmed because there's plenty of staff behind the counter to move people along and tables inside to have a bite to eat. Cheese Pizza Slice- Cheesyrific with parmesan, mozzarella and cheddar cheese! I love how fluffy the sourdough was and for just a cheese pizza, it's well-seasoned. Pepperoni Pizza Slice- This slice is the way to go if you want a little kick and they didn't skimp at all with the pepperoni. Love! Apple Pie 10"- This mountain high loaded pie was delightful and probably can feed 8 people easily. Chai Tea Latte- A sweet cup of delicious tea with milk and the scent of cinnamon. Iced Vietnamese Coffee- Super strong but they got the ratio of black coffee and condensed milk just right. Overall Service: Everyone was so lovely here and yay to no excruciating long wait just to put an order in. And while they were making our drinks they told us we enjoy our pizzas first while they were hot and called over once they were ready. I had a blueberry lemon cake from here for my birthday recently. It was gluten free. The flavor was good but it could have used a little more lemon. The cake itself was not what I had expected, I've had gluten free cakes before and somehow those were closer to a sponge cake than this was. This had the texture of a pound cake, which didn't go great with the light flavor of the cake. Then the buttercream was off, it was more like a shell than it was a buttercream, more reminiscent of white chocolate and left a residue in my mouth. There was not enough blueberry compote or whipped cream in the center to offset the lack of moisture in both the cake and buttercream. Now, I'm spoiled because I used to live in a big city where gluten free was a fashionable diet so there was probably more of a need to refine a recipe for it. This wasn't a bad cake or anything, just needs refining (and moisture). read more

I've been here twice and the place is BUSY. They do a good job moving the line. I really like the pre-made breakfast sandwiches that they hold hot at the front. The one in the Asiago bagel with caramelized onions was amazing. I was disappointed with my daughters chocolate cupcake we got (yes - I stole a bite). I was actually thinking they just made terrible cupcakes because she didn't even finish it. Then a few hours later I opened it up and took another bite (I mean- even bad chocolate is still chocolate) and to my surprise it was much better hours later at room temperature. Unfortunately, I need to take a couple stars away now that I've been here a bunch of times. Be it pre-made sandwiches that they often run out of, and of course, can't customize like most bakery café/sandwich shops, the length of time to make a coffee, and the limited availability of bakery items, it's become harder to be a huge fan. Also, the recent kickers are, my daughter ordered a green tea matcha drink and she said it tasted weird. She is a quiet and shy kid who hates to bring attention to herself, but the drink tasted so strange, she went up to the counter and told them. I was shocked she did that. But then the manager came over and in a snarky way, told her in front of everyone that their matcha drinks are made differently than what she is probably used to at Starbucks, and there's nothing wrong with the drink she had. Still, they at least made her something else. That said, my daughter insists the drink was legit off. Anyway, we went there again, and she got a bacon and cheese sandwich and it only had one piece of bacon. As for me, I went there for 2 things and they didn't have either. I won't say I won't be back, but I won't go with any regularity. It bums me out as I thought we found ourselves a gem. read more

Everything looked so delicious! My husband and I got a hot coffee and coldbrew (both great), the German chocolate cupcake (like a mini cake size), as well as a slice of apple cinnamon coffee cake-so moist and yummy!!. Let me start b saying their breakfast a month ago was awesome! Sausage turnover, potato, egg sandwiches were the best. I used to get the sausage bagel. I hate sausage. The aioli was so good that I used to order it and loved it. It was so full of egg and sausage I ate 1/2 and saved the other 1/2 vigor lunch. Fast forward to today, they changed the menu. The homemade turnovers and fillings are gone, the aioli sausage bagels---gone. These are items that set Buckleys cafe apart from McDonalds or Dunks. What I was able to get today. For my husband a burrito that the egg was crumbly, wet and soggy. No flavor, tasted like powdered eggs. In a spot or 2 with loads of flavor that was not good. In short, pass on the Burrito. Save your $5.50 I got the western bagel. Worst 'western' ever. The egg was less than 1/2 of what you used to get. It was flat and did not taste fresh. The ham was a slice of deli ham folded on the top. 1 or 2 teenie tiny cubs of diced onion and pepper, tasteless burnt in some area cheese. The bagel was fine, but why bother? The filling was awful. They used to sell out of their breakfast items. I think they solved that problem! What business would get rid of successful menu items? I need to find a new breakfast place. I stumbled upon this shop when I had some time to kill down in Merrimack. The sign said, "Soup of the day: Coffee." So I HAD to check it out. Good coffee, great breakfast items, and cozy atmosphere in the upstairs room. A really great place to get a bit of work done in between meetings! They have a large selection of sandwiches as well.
