Loving it. Best hotel on Madtown by FAR. Historic and modern . Not perfect, but that's what makes it unique. We checked into today for a one nite stay. The check in was easy. The parking was ample if a little confusing . Its a bit sprawling but I think that makes it intriguing. Long corridors and intimate corners. But pay attention, cuz it's a bit of maze. Its perched on the lake so you get a lot of vertical views. It's two buildings the historic Langdon building and the modern Wisconsin building Lobby boy Dylan got us up to the room with ease. Enjoyed room service dinner which was excellent and hot and fast. We were in the Langdon on a high floor facing the lake. Actually the room had three facings. The room was spacious but cozy. My wife loved it. She had a couple of glasses of wine and snoozed. The bathroom was good sized with large claw foot and a big mirror with double sink and a TV. which wax spotless. The whole place is spotless, I notice stuff like that. Did I mention tv in the bathroom? Nice soaps. We had a kitchenette . No hardware, so bring a bottle opener or buy a good twist off vintage. The tub worked fine. And then there's that lake. And the Capitol. And the rink. It all seems just about perfect. It's Christmas and this whole year has been hard on all of us. I feel privileged to be able to stay here and I recognize I am. I love Madison and wish life wast so hard for all of us this year. read more

Beautiful, clean, special hotel in the heart of Madison. Most rooms with amazing views, even some with verandas and balconies overlooking the Capitol and lake. Fun pier and boat activity. Wonderful and varied restaurants: Statehouse where we had breakfast everyday overlooking the lake, Boathouse on the pier for drinks and light dinner, and Augie's Tavern for later drinks and snacks. The Edgewater demands a five star review, but it is not a world class, fabulous, hotel. It is probably the best in Madison, with an unbelievable location on Lake Mendota. However, "caveat emptor." The Edgewater has discovered the wedding business as a profit bearing enterprise, generating millions of dollars beyond what a hotel can earn. The Edgewater, for all intensive purposes, is no longer a hotel. It is now a wedding venue with lots of rooms for the wedding party and their guests. Be prepared, an organic experience is not waiting for you at this hotel. Nothing is real, it is all a contrived fantasy. "Live happily after." "Every bride is a princess" "Our cooing love birds." Yikes! We were here for a wedding of a great friend's son and we splurged. Our very expensive room, $407.00 per night, including taxes and parking, had an incredible view of the lake, and was large and quite comfortable. The bathroom was also scrumptious, but missing a light bulb, which was never replaced even after our request. The Edgewater is a large venue, consisting of several buildings, old and new, upstairs and downstairs. Navigating the spaces should be left to Vasco de Gama. We were constantly getting lost. The young staff were quite well trained and very helpful. However, there is no flexibility at the Edgewater, and their rules are as rigid as the wedding schedules enforced by the numerous wedding planners marching around the venue. Our flight was leaving from Madison at 7:17 P.M. on Sunday. The front desk staff enforced the 12:00 P.M. check out time. No late check out was available. Rather than hang out in the humidity, I spent several hours in their empty coffee shop writing reviews and utilizing the bathroom facilities on the 7th floor. After five days eating and drinking in Wisconsin, no one should go to 7th floor for at least a week. read more

Last month, during my long weekend getaway to Seattle, WA I had the pleasure of staying at The Edgewater Hotel. I felt like as soon as I walked in that I was in a comfy cozy cabin that was comforting. The Edgewater is the only waterfront hotel in downtown Seattle which gave breathtaking views at all hours of the day. You have the Olympic Mountains in the background and you're looking directly at Elliott Bay. The Edgewater is a Noble House Hotel whom specialize in luxury one of a kind hotels which translated to The Edgewater where no detail was overlooked. My favorite part of the rooms at the Edgewater? The fireplace in your room. There was nothing like listening to the rain and hearing the crackling of the fireplace as you fall asleep. The staff were all friendly, from the bell men to the front desk crew, to the wait staff in the restaurant, and even the gift shop/coffee shop. The guest rooms are either city side or water side, I'd recommend going with the waterview because chances are you'll be exploring the city all day. All the rooms have European-spa style bathroom with glass encased shower which I thought was so fun. I highly recommend staying at The Edgewater for both locals and visitors. At the very least, go for a dinner or cocktail. read more

I'm between 3 and 4 stars for this hotel. My family and I stayed here over the summer. We brought our young kids, so I made sure beforehand that we could get adjoining rooms. Well, when we arrived, there had been a maintenance issue, so some of their rooms were unavailable. We had to stay the first night in separate rooms (which meant my husband and I had to "sleep" with at least one kid in our bed, kicking us the whole night...). We did get adjoining rooms for the next couple nights of our visit, but the staff wasn't overly apologetic or anything. They didn't comp us anything for the hassle, which kind of surprised me because it was a big pain in the butt. The rooms themselves were nice enough. For the price, I expected them to be what they were--though I wish they had been a little bit cleaner. I've posted pics, too, and you can see there were white stains on the curtains and bed spread (ew). The lamp shade was half covered in a water stain. So that was kind of gross. The only thing redeeming this hotel for me is the location. Our rooms didn't look onto the lake, but it was so nice to be able to walk out and sit on the dock. The sunsets we saw there were stunning. I don't know if I would stay here again. The next time we visit Madison, I'll probably shop around for a different hotel. read more

When you see the Edgewater for the first time your struck with it's beauty. From the Art deco exterior to the breath taking long area. The rooms are lovely. The views of the lake are stunning in all seasons. The hall way to the Statehouse restaurant is a Madison area Museum. I very much enjoyed my stay. There are two things that keep me from giving it 5 stars. You have to pay for parking on top of your room, and finding your way from the parking garage to the long is a bit too difficult. Walking can be difficult for me, and when a place is that large a clearly maked path would be nice. I will deffintly go back, I know my way around now. read more

I would have given this hotel four stars but there were a few issues. First let me start with the pros. The rooms were nice and spacious. The bathroom was huge. Loved the wall in shower. The view was wonderful and the private patio was nice. Just a tad too cold to use it. Now for the cons. There was garbage laying on the patio, wet naps and old breakfast sandwiches. So housekeeping definitely did not clean this up in between guests... Kinds makes me wonder what else they didn't clean. Also, on of the robes had a brown stain on it, super disgusting. Again... What speeding they clean? The other thing that I did not like, was when you turn on the bathroom light about seven lights go on. There is no option to turn on just one, so in the middle of the night when you have to use the restroom, you are blinded... Not a great experience. First time here we were celebrating an anniversary and second time here now celebrating my birthday and both times was fantastic! They had complimentary wine for our first visit and then a birthday card and complimentary chocolates for our second visits..little gestures like this is what makes this place so great! Everything from the room, the fitness center, the pool/hot tub area was so clean. They also provide complimentary pick up/drop off services in their Escalade which is a nice touch to save some $ on Uber/Lyft. All of the staff were very friendly, Matthew specifically was very helpful and nice. I would definitely come back..this time in the summer to enjoy things like their yoga class overlooking the lake and the boathouse which was closed this weekend. read more

My husband and I have stayed four times in the past year; we adore it. It's our stopping point between Mayo and home. We got the Langdon Studio King three of the four times, and a regular Langdon room once. We will always book the Studio King if we can, to enjoy the added space, and the uninterrupted view of the lake. It makes for a placid stay. The king bed and pillows are extra comfortable, and the bathroom is pretty big, with a shower, separate soaking tub, plus robes, a scale, and in-mirror television. The sitting area includes a table and chairs, plus two other easy chairs near the 60' television. I use the WiFi and can comfortably work. We always order room service as soon as we arrive. I highly recommend the arugula salad. For breakfast, I usually order a Greek yogurt with granola, honey and berries, plus a carafe of coffee to enjoy all morning. The spa is good. I've gotten manicures, pedicures, and the foot treatment. My husband had a deep tissue massage and showed up at the room afterward looking completely blissed out! The pedicure chairs are very comfortable, with an adjustable neck pillow so you can truly let go and relax. What else....car service, a helpful concierge, good restaurants within walking distance...I could truly live here. read more

Family was very gracious to get us this hotel for a 2 night visit, so a feel bad about whining in this review (for them, not the hotel). They paid a whooping 900 bucks on a game day, for a "lake view" room. Although we were not there for the stupid, insignificant, college football gameWell, by lake view it means we have to by pass multiple neighbors to look on our far right side and get a corner of lake. I had to go on their website to double check if they gave us the wrong room. I am pretty acquainted with hotels that charges $400, in fact, I am very acquainted with hotels from $40 to a much higher price tag. The room shouted BORING and TASTELESS and circa 2000 at its best. Looking at the public toilet seat in the bathroom, and the perpetual impossible to remove water stain, the brown ish gross looking tile grout, it's safe to say that I wouldn't pay over 100 for this place. Any business 3 stars (Hampton Inn, Hyatt regency for instance, new Marriotts) will easily pass its interior design and level of cleanliness, and charges a much lower fare. The entire hotel design also made absolutely no sense. Parking is at level 4 to reach to this tunnel to get direct into hotel. The elevator was impossible to find. This is freaking Midwest 3rd tier city they couldn't even make it make much sense than Chicago. Try to stop by the snack shop, deeply disappointing. Girl in the shop was on her phone swiping, possibly candy crashing. Don't waste your money. It is a man made lake anyways. read more

This is definitely not a high end hotel like you'd get in a major/metropolitan city. The space is modern and impressive and the location is incredible - right on the lake, just east of UW-M. The staff was a mixed bag: some were friendly, helpful and professional, while others were (or looked like) slovenly college students who did not realize they work at the (supposedly) best hotel in the city. The Edgewater Hotel is a pleasant surprise in the quiet city of Madison, Wisconsin. While most of this city looks like small town America, The Edgewater has more of a "we've been here" vibe to it. It's located right on the water with some pretty awesome views of the peninsula. There is a restaurant on the premises with panoramic windows that also offer some amazing views while enjoying a meal. The rooms are nice, but actually not as nice as you would expect given the beauty of the overall hotel. Rooms are clean and decent size, but not as modern as other parts of the hotel such as he lobby, restaurant and bar area. None the less, my room offered amazing views of the water as well and made for a beautiful sight at dusk. The bar area is hopping. I was here on a Monday night and the place was packed up until at least midnight. Plenty of seating, a very good wine selection and very large bar. This is definitely the trendy place to stay in Madison and it's worth it. read more

Our arrival to the Edgewater was very late. We booked one of the Edgewater king rooms. The rooms was very spacious. We would of booked a nicer room but the plan was just to arrive sleep and go. Well the room had very nice towels and the water was hot! The bathroom was very clean and the bed was incredibly soft. The room had a bathtub that had an ok view, but for a standard Edgewater king the room was very big. It had a desk and well a closet. The heated floor did take forever to kick in the morning. Well at least I think that's what the buttons did lol. We arrived late and check in was a breeze. The Valet parking service was very quick and friendly. We woke up in the morning to find out that there were many things to do at the hotel. The Hotel had a nice boat house along with an amazing view. We walked outside for a bit and checked out the spa and the little shops. We took some time to look at the restaurants and if it's a Friday and you want breakfast eat at the hotel. We wanted to hit the road and found out there was almost nothing open at the time. We ended up eating sushi for brunch lol. The Restaurant was very impressive as well as the bar. This is not the place for a one night stay I would recommend multiple nights.. There are also events at the hotel so there are tons to do. The valet parking for the night is 25$ and its a one time fee so you can get your car back multiple times read more

My friend and I had dinner at the Edgewater's (not casual) Boathouse restaurant. We each ordered the fish tacos and they were delicious! Our server, Johannes, was delightful and even drew us a map to help us figure out a way to get back to our cars using the Edgewater's underground tunnels so that we didn't have to go out in the rain! This review is for the hotel as I experienced it. I've been here a few times for functions. I attended the oyster fest and they tasted nice but they were way over priced. Parking is a little expensive!!! You would think guests should be given a break or free parking. Coming here with others who stayed they complained about the resort fee. Beautiful place, but wow are they full of themselves. We arrived at 3 pm, and the rooms were not ready. OK, we went for a walk and came back at 7 pm, and no room was ready. We were then downgraded from the lake view to lesser rooms, and split apart from the other couple that was traveling with us between the old and the new buildings. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were left waiting as "She is extremely busy right now making up rooms as we are short-handed." She never showed up or responded to our complaints. I am an understanding person when it comes to hospitality -- we had no problems when the room wasn't ready earlier in the day, but the downgrade, lack of empathy for our situation and downright arrogance of the staff was a bit shocking. While they had an excuse for everything and treated us like we were in the wrong for problems that were none of our doing, they had zero problems taking our money. It was also not just our group that had problems -- I saw and heard others with similar distress. I will never stay there again. Perhaps our experience was an aberration, but the staff was so rude that it seemed more like they wanted to show who was in control and humiliate us instead of working with us. read more

Having lived in Madison years ago and as someone who worked in the wedding industry I've always wanted to stay at The Edgewater. Driving through town we found a DEAL on priceline (~130.00) and we jumped on it. From the moment we arrived till we checked out the next day every employee we interacted with was pleasant and helpful and it was days before Christmas so the hotel was extra magical. In the lobby there was a gingerbread house of the Wisconsin Capital, carolers in the lobby and the greatest surprise for our daughter who's four, ice skating with Santa! Our night was relaxing and magical. We enjoyed fish fry on site at the Ice House (which needs more seating) and after ice skating enjoyed the pool. Our room had a great view of the lake, gigantic bed and we really enjoyed our experience. Now, I will say there didn't seem to be an event in the building as it seemed quite for a hotel of this caliber. We enjoyed our stay and would go back again if the price was right. read more

Stayed here three years straight and every other time left happy. Booking the standard King size room, we were getting unique experience each stay. First, we got a room with lake view, then a higher one in the mid-section that combines both city and lake sights, and the most recent one had a huge terrace (right above "the Statehouse" sign). All of these were exceptionally clean, relatively large and had all the necessary useful stuff inside. LOCATION is probably the best possible in town. Although there are few more hotels closer to the Capitol in Madison, they do not have such an amazing lakeside terrace as the Edgewater. Convenient PARKING garage right underneath the building, with good walkway and tunnel system that help you get from the car to the unit in a matter of few seconds. As well, I love the tunnel that connects Wisconsin building with the one that has relaxation pool area; you don't need to get dressed a lot in order to get to it. Large locker next to the pool is equipped with everything you might imagine. I had never lacked a towel, or any other piece of the cosmetics to clean myself up (picture attached). Heading to the Edgewater, I am not taking anything on me, but my own clothes. I would like to say thanks to all the people who made our stays there unforgettable! read more

I had to give myself some time to cool down since our stay at the Edgewater. My wife and I visited over New Years weekend and it was overall a poor experience. We reserved a Premier Lakefront King Suite. When we walked in, we noticed that the amenities that they show in the images were NOT available in all rooms. Specifically, the 'spa amenities' and featured bathtub were nowhere to be found. We come to find out that The Edgewater knowingly falsely advertise half of their 'Premier' rooms with images of that do not apply to what you are reserving. They offered a complimentary breakfast at their restaurant to compensate for their Bait-and-switch marketing campaign. The food was horrendous! Nearly $50 for tasteless eggs benedict and a sampler plate. Upon trying to sign out, we noticed several discrepancies in the statement. I needed to speak with two managers before being able to reconcile the account. All the while the front end staff talked down to me until they realized the error in the accounting. If you like being ripped off from a hotel solely staying in business based on its laurles - the Edgewater is certainly a place for you. You might be able to find better value for your dollar staying at literally any of the other hotels in the area. read more

Came to the Edgewater's for the annual Christmas tree lighting and free ice skating weekend to kick off the holiday season on Black Friday. It was gorgeous!! The outside had a beautiful tree of lights and ice sculptures and santos horse drawn sleigh waiting to take him away. The inside was out of bounds!! Elegant, shiny brass and Christmas trees everywhere. The view of the Lake astounds one as you look out the huge windows. A classy establishment to say the least! read more

The old Admiralty room was the best place in Madison, perhaps the midwest, hands down. The new Edgewater dining room is mediocre at best. Here is what you are missing: Amazing food, views, and service. Full French service, live pianist! dramatic table side preparation, everything is perfect, no mistakes tolerated by management, Fantastic Amuse-bouches, Steak Diane, Tuna Nicose salad, and Strawberries Romanov, ect... classic bar decor, amazing vintage photos. Here is what you get now: Higher prices, lower quality food, servers who don't know what a French 75 is, subpar seafood, terrible decor. They didn't retain any of the old staff. You can almost always get a table, since its not busy, and the views are still fantastic. At least the new expansion is better looking than the 80's one, but they ruined the historic tower on the left. read more

This is a tough review. This place is in a marvelous location, the rooms are extremely well appointed. The price is great! There is every amenity you could want. But... they do not readily disclose or make it transparent that they charge an exorbitant and non-refundable pet fee of $100 per pet per night! The desk staff could use some schooling in how to attend to guests standing in front of them...rather than not making eye contact with their attention towards screens and paperwork, and lastly if a guest is going to self park they should warn them of the extremely low ceiling height in their garage. The 3 stars is an average of 5 for location and accommodation and a 0-1 for everything else. read more

I booked a room via Priceline which appears to accommodate 2 adults. I called the hotel in order to see if I could get a room with two beds and after having to contact Priceline and get them to fax the hotel was told that the prices are different and it would cost an additional 20.00 for two Queen beds. My issue is that the web showed king and queen rooms for the same price. Another set had a difference in price, but only $15.00. It looks like a great hotel, but I am thus far not impressed with the customer service. Update:. We arrived and were assigned a two Queen room for no additional charge. No argument at all. The room is beautiful. Plus, the young man at the desk, Matthew, recommended a good place to eat and there's a free shuttle service to take us there and back. The Edgewater is a stunning hotel and event center. The buildings, decor, landscaping, and view are all top notch and elegant. The whole place is really a work of art. I coordinated a 3-day work even here for approximately 70 people, all staying on-site a couple of years ago. The event planner I worked with was a dream and couldn't have been more helpful. We were able to customize everything and make it all work the way we needed. There were a few days that we needed to make last minute changes, and that too was handled efficiently and I couldn't be more pleased with the service provided overall. We had meeting spaces, dining spaces, breakfasts and lunches, the works really. The meeting spaces were great and had all the audio/visual setups we needed. Plenty of room to accommodate and no one felt crammed in. The meals were fantastic. Lots of options available to accommodate any dietary restrictions/sensitivities and even the pickiest of eaters. Lots of compliments on the food throughout the 3 days. It is a pricier venue than other hotel/convention centers in the area, but you get what you pay for! I feel that the pricing is 100% justified with the level of service and overall satisfaction that you walk away with. I absolutely recommend this venue for events and meetings. read more

We were recently looking for a place to stay during our visit to Madison, WI. The Edgewater Hotel caught our attention for the location and the beauty of the property. I called The hotel and a very pleasant gentleman - Myron - answered our call. He was friendly, polite and very professional. He made us feel welcomed. At this time we had not even made the commitment to book the room. It was getting late in the day and we were concerned about finding a place that would still be open for dinner given the new COVID schedules. We asked Myron about a Thai restaurant near the property. He went out of his way to do the research and offer information on a couple of places. His excellent client service skills were our deciding factor for booking the night. When we arrived to check in Myron's shift had ended but he was kind enough to leave us all the Written information on the restaurant. The place turned out to be one of the best Thai restaurants we have been to. Thank you Myron for the recommendation. Your thoughtfulness was much appreciated. We found the place without any problem. The hotel was elegant; the room And common areas were very clean. The parking was affordable and conveniently located. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well. Shortly after checking out the next morning I called the hotel to inquire about our Bill. Myron once again answered the phone in his usual professional, welcoming demeanor. He took the time to thoroughly explain our bill. We had an opportunity to thank him for the restaurant recommendation as well. In our conversation his passion for what he does became obvious. During these difficult times we need more Myron's in this world to make a difference. He certainly had a very positive impact on us. We will most definitely come back to Madison and stay at the Edgewater. Thanks to Myron this has been the best customer service experience we have had. read more

Beware the "Lakeview Terrace" We splurged for a 3-night stay at The Edgewater and opted for a Terrace King room - which pictures a balcony looking over Lake Menona on the website. These rooms DO NOT sit over the water (and we were told by the front desk that none do). They are on the side of the hotel. If you go out on the terrace, look to the side, over several other terraces, you can see the water...but it's not ON the water or what I would call a lake view. In fairness, the room description does not promise a lake view...but the picture is deceiving. The terrace itself, while nice and large, had quite high walls so you can't take in the view (water or otherwise) while sitting. The hotel itself was nice, rooms were large and comfortable and they had some nice bands playing on the plaza which was fun. The staff was friendly and the location is nice with easy walking distance to UW and the Capital area. Madison's a great town. Overall, it's a very nice hotel...but for more than $300 a night in a nice-but-not-Chicago Midwestern city, I expect a very nice hotel with a nice terrace AND a great view. So, 3 stars from me. read more
