The staff were very friendly and made a fuss of me for my birthday, which was very appreciated! I had the Victoria Sponge cake, which was vegan-friendly and delicious! The servings were *very* generous! The rest of my group enjoyed their cake as well as flavoured hot chocolates. We really enjoyed the vibe here, the friendly staff and above all, the excellent food and drink. We'll be returning! :-)

The waitress came over to take our orders and helped me choose between 2 dishes that I was torn over. The drinks service was a little slow but the food was timey and the presentation on all the dishes was amazing! My Dad opted for a seafood platter, which came with smoked salmon, crayfish, cockles, mackerel and crab slaw all served with sourdough bread, hollandaise and aioli sauces - seafood heaven! My Mum went for the lamb and goats cheese burger that was divine! The lamb was cooked to perfection with it being pink in the middle and served with a yummy mint yogurt dip and sun-dried tomatoes. I was stuck between the club sandwich and BBQ pulled pork open sandwich. On recommendation I went for the pork, which was served, on sourdough toast with melted Monterey cheese - heaven! I was having food-envy looking at the lamb burger but was not in anyway disappointed with my pork. Finishing off our meal with the Parlour's specialty - ice creams all round! I have a new found love for the homemade lemon meringue cone... There is so many flavours including apple pie and the originals too - its an ice cream lovers heaven! Our leisurely lunch here was fab and they are also promoting the "Super Club" on the 18th of July that is a diner's paradise! With three courses plus their homemade ice cream at £25 a head it doesn't break the bank either. This place was definitely worth the 20-minute drive and I will be back to try their dinner menu!

It was a really yummy cake! The sitting rooms were so cute, we were in the garden shed , and there was the main room, and the ice cream parlour and outdoor sitting. A really well done place, with layout and set up. Sometimes tea shops along the high way have a whole room full of junk they are trying to sell to you and then cramped sitting. But not here I think I saw a few cute things for sale but mostly they were focused on their food and I was told famous ice cream! Well done for keeping the place about whats most important... the food! Friendly service and tasty treats. It was a bit slow because they were super packed and under staff. The waiter apologised for the wait and said someone had called in ill! I can only rate it on the cake and coffee because I didn't eat anything there but I imagine it would be good .

It was pretty packed, but they squeezed us in on bean bags around a little table in the cinema area, (yes, they have a cinema area), that actually almost made it nicer and easier for us to have a jolly good catch up. We had a good peruse through the extensive menu, and all plumped for different sorts of tea, we all got a different pot, and we passed them around, sipping each others brews and deciding on our favourites until our cake arrived. One of our friends who was there is allergic to eggs and nuts, and she was still reasonably catered for. They have gluten free options too. Again, all of the cake was passed around, and still, it was great. I was in newcastle a few weeks ago, and I won;t lie, I was a bit miffed when we didn't go here! I will be back though!

The new place is light and spacious, with at least double the tables of the last little shop, which you can reserve or hope there is one free (I missed out on graduation day in November and was very grumpy!) but the thing to behold for me is the tea shelf. Wander over, and pick your tea in a mug or a pot by perusing the labels and opening the big glass Kilner jars to sniff at the gorgeous varieties of loose leaf teas inside. They do cakes well, and their Danishes are fabulous, a nice range of sandwiches and bagels means you aren't stuck for choice whether you have a sweet or savoury tooth. Another deal not to miss is their afternoon tea, now £10 for a slice of cake, scone, sandwich and unlimited tea. I've spent many an afternoon taking advantage of the unlimited tea! In fact, we took up a majority of the rooms offered here. The proprietors and employees are so kind and wish to make you feel at home. Breakfast is included in the tea room with your room and never disappoints especially when enjoyed in the Guest House private garden located in the back of the house. The rooms range from small double-sized beds to large "family" rooms all with en-suite washrooms. Clean, comfortable, and its superb location (next door to Salutation Inn pub and in the heart of bustling and beautiful ocean-side Tynemouth with train access to Newcastle approx 5 minute walk) only enhance the guest houses' already appealing price. If you're lucky enough to snag the room at the back of the house with the private patio porch looking over South Shields, then do so! The only problem with this room is that the door outside is your only access to fresh air (not so great on a rainy day). I would 100% recommend No. 61 Guest House to anyone visiting Tynemouth.

Breakfast was hot and plentiful, the beds were comfortable, bathrooms very clean and generally was a pleasant stay. Tynemouth is a very pretty village in itself. The only problem is parking at weekends (very busy in the village). We had a bit of confusion over the price quote on the phone to us and the price we ended up paying, so get confirmation in writing of how much you are paying before you go.
